Flair I would suggest using "dead bird" more while training. Otherwise, Lucy looks pretty good for a 6-month-old dog.
Our lab is also named Lucy. She can differentiate between find a bird and dead bird. Actually useful.

When she’s bringing a bird back and stops short just turn around and walk away while calling her and she’ll follow you. Keep walking and let her carry it for a bit, stop to let her catch up and give you the bird.
FLAIR is a proud papa! She did well. That live action retrieval and reward will do wonders for her
Hey flair, when you’re throwing Lucy her retrieves, have her sit, tell her to wait, throw the ball/dummy, and when it hits the ground wait a second then say okay and then she can take off. We do it with our German wirehaired pointer that we pheasant hunt with. It teaches them to be patient and not go after the bird until you want her to. Great video btw!

I’ve hunted planted birds with professionally trained upland dogs and honestly they were only slightly better than Lucy was in this video. I’m really impressed
She's lookin good Flair! I'm currently training my pup (4 months) and I learned that she brings it back better when I sort of run away from her a bit. Pups like to chase you, so try throwing and running back a bit on the retrieve so she brings it right back. She will release once you get her more experienced.

Btw your vids are awesome I’m big on duck hunting and have a puddle pointer dog that is my best friend and although he makes mistakes he is doing what he loves and I think that’s the best thing you can do for a dog

Flair, Ive hunted with veteran dogs for quail, pheasents, etc. Lucy did good man.. Ya cant ask for much more than that for a pup. She was havin fun!! And thats what its all about just you and your dog havin fun. Great video it made me smile.
You should put sturgeon in your pond you can get them off of Arizona Aquatic gardens and some other places.

Just a tip. Love the vids no hate. When the dog is retrieving and bringing the bird back to you try to refrain from saying “good girl” until she gets back to you because saying those trigger words can imply her job is done. That might be your problem with her short stopping you. Look at the first real retrieve when you said “good girl” she stopped and started to turn. Just a tip keep it up.

Hey flair i dont know if you remember me but i have some training tips, when you tell her to sit or come or whatever tell her once and then when she does the command give her a treat , dont tell over and over just once. If she doesnt listen or jumps on your simply just turn around give it a minute and say the command again some thing for if she being rough or does something you dont want her too. I love these kind of vidjas, one thing that I’ve seen wit Lucy is to teach her to whoa, it’s just when she’s on the bird it gives you time to pick where you want the bird to flush, just my opinion, I’ve trained my dogs the same way but I’ve had pointer dogs, and one thing too if you want to get into more upland game bird hunting is get your self a pointer and a flushing dog, then the dogs can work off each other
