Well tbh either Hall or Eberle had to go. they couldn't afford them hall with Lucic and others on the books and Draisaitl, and Mcdavid needing contracts

@@pwnedeful If the leafs can afford Tavares, Matthews, Marner, and Nylander at 11,11,10.5, and 7 the Oilers could have easily afforded McDavid, Draisaitl, Holl and Eberle at 12.5, 8.5,6, and 6...

@@gobitzgames3704 yeah but you wont win a cup with having that much of your cap containing 6 players. Who does toronto have on defence other than rielly? Muzzin and brodie are entering their decline and bogosian is just for some toughness. Edmonton is still up against the cap and they still have trouble with depth scoring

@@pwnedeful Dude my entire point is they could have ran with those guys for significantly less than what the leafs are doing. Saying they couldnt afford them all so it was inevitable they had to go is BS they absolutely could have ran with those guys and had a chance at a cup.

What sucks most about Strome being dealt away from Edmonton was the fact that it was the first in 3 “I have to save my job” trades be Chiarelli. The other two? Caggiula for BRANDON MANNING and acquiring Petrovic. Strome really never got a fair shake in Edmonton, and the fans are to blame as much as management is. Many of them were calling for Eberle to be traded after the playoffs and they continue to do it. As well, I gotta really feel for Athanasiou. He may not have gotten a point vs Chicago, but he was one of 3-4 guys who actually bothered to show up and compete. He just couldn’t bury one.

Just reviewing it too: the trade of both Lucic and Hamilton almost simultaneous at junior draft for: C Miller, M Jones, 13th overall, 15th overall and 2 second rounders. it wasn't the trade of Hamilton, its what GM got for the 15th by the way Barzal played in the WHL and Calgary's pick was 15th. It could have been so much better. Eberle trade was bad, but it was a 6 mil line: Lucic, Nugent Hopkins, Eberle. No Eberle was traded because Chiarelli was trash and wanted to sign Kris Russell to an overpriced extension with a no move clause.
      Worst GM of all time.

So, in total, the Oilers traded Jordan Eberle, Ryan Strome, Ryan Spooner, Sam Gagner and two second round picks for 2 points. Noice

If you really want to do the Eberle trade tree it is actually the Messier trade tree. Not sure if you're wanting to do a 1 hour trade tree video though as it is the NHL's longest active trade tree. Almost dead with the Gagne trade going to Detroit now...

Didn't Eberle score the game-winning goal in the shootout too, vs. the Russians in the 2009 WJC? My memory might be deceiving me, but I think he did.

So let me get this straight they traded Ebbs for Strome then traded Strome for Spooner then traded Spooner for Ganger then traded Ganger and picks for AA to not resign AA. So they traded Ebbs for nothing lovely

This trade was addition by subtraction. His defence is non existent and he quit driving the net after signing the 6x6. The spotlight was on him the moment he didn’t light it up on Connors wing, the lack of anything in the playoffs sealed his fate. I’m honestly more disappointed in Strome being traded than Eberle.
