      It's actually ridiculous the trade history that these two teams have with each other. I was half waiting to see Panarin pop back up again on the Rangers side, but then I remembered that he signed as a UFA haha.

      Losing Panarin for Saad’s secondary scoring was a MAJOR Chi blunder. Major to the point that Bowman should probably be terminated.

    • @chrisleffler3433
      @chrisleffler3433 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still am in awe of the uselessness of Bowman to squander Panarin and P.Kane’s best years. It’s akin to basically,,,,,,,, nothing. I guess it must have felt normal for a GM to trade a player that has had the best chemistry with PKane. Disgusting.

      @@thekillers1stfan somewhat.. I think it was 2012 or 2013, one of those years we made playoffs under, I *believe* under Ken, then the next season we laid a goose egg in the first 10 games.
      Torts' stingy defensive mentality has consistently gotten them into postseason play all but one year since he's joined the team. That's a great turnaround from only getting there twice (and being swept..) if you ask me.

    Looking back at this, Pavel Buchnevich, Ryan Strome, Ryan Lindgren, K’Andre Miller, Mika Zibanejad, Morgan Barron, Brendan Smith, and (indirectly) Artemi Panarin were all a part of this trade tree, and were all very vital to the Rangers this past season.

    As a Columbus fan, I enjoyed this trip down memory lane.
    One note about McQuaid: it wasn't that he wasn't a fit. He took a hit to the head a few games into his time here and it ended up ending his career.
    Fun trade-related fact about McQuaid: he was drafted by the Blue Jackets in 2005 then later traded to Boston for a pick that Columbus would later flip to Dallas and which was used by the Stars to select Jamie Benn.

      I actually got viscerally angry about Andrew Shaw all over again watching that. No, Steve, it’s not that Adam McQuaid was an awkward fit, it’s that Andrew Shaw ended his career in the 3rd period of a random March game and he was unavailable for the playoffs which is why we had to play Scott Harrington against Boston. Gaaahhhh!!!!

    As a Rangers fan this was a nice watch (aside from the goal from he who shall not be named and the jab at Hank).
    Loved Nash as a Ranger, even when he wasn’t scoring he was still a very important part of the team with surprising solid two way play. Really like Lindgren’s grit, hope he didn’t just have a one off year. He wasn’t even on our radar when acquired but after coming up from the AHL was the only good left handed defenseman (still is).
    Feel like you underrated Buch, he’s a part of the team but a very important one. He’s an excellent play driver finally hitting his stride. Feel like that happens a lot though, very under appreciated player.

    2 years later and 2 of those pieces are St. Louis Blues. Saad and Buchnevich are ballers.
    Oh I almost forgot, the Rangers later traded Buchnevich to St. Louis for Sammy Blais and a 2022 2nd round pick. The St. Louis Blues' second-round pick went to the Winnipeg Jets as the result of a trade on March 21, 2022, that sent Andrew Copp and a sixth-round pick in 2023 to New York in exchange for Morgan Barron, a conditional first-round pick in 2022, a fifth-round pick in 2023 and this pick (being conditional at the time of the trade).
    Then the Rangers trade Blais, Hunter Skinner, and a conditional first-round pick in 2023, a conditional fourth-round pick in 2024 for Vladimir Tarasenko and Niko Mikkola(you’re welcome).

    I was in the building when Bread's empty netter sealed the sweet over Tampa. I know people outside of Columbus wonder what the hell Jarmo was thinking, swinging for all of those expiring contracts. That moment right there is part of what he was thinking. The roof nearly blew off Nationwide Arena the second that goal went in and I've never heard the crowd be nearly as loud as the Cannon before. I get super emotional to this day thinking about that sweep, even though the Jackets lost to Boston in the next round. That doesn't even matter. Because FINALLY winning that playoff series and taking down the Goliath Lightning in the process was worth every trade and penny.

    As a Ranger fan for almost 50 years, I'm gonna say this before I even watch one second of this video - Rick Nash was a great player, and a great person, and exactly the class act we are proud to have be called a Ranger. We fans wish him well.

    Crazy how this tree grew with Buchnevich getting traded to St. Louis and then the second they got being a part of the Andrew Copp deal

    You mentioned Tyler Wall as part of the Yandle deal, but the other draft pick was Morgan Barron who appears like will be a decent middle six player for the Rangers. Had an outstanding NCAA career at Cornell.

  • @ethank2050
    @ethank2050 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just a side note, Morgan Barron was packaged at this most recent trade deadline for Andrew Copp, also Tyler Motte and Artemi Panarin ended up with the Rangers following the trade deadline. Meaning that from this trade we got Artemi panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Andrew Copp, K’Andre Miller, Ryan Strome, Ryan Lindgren, and Pavel Buchnevich (who got traded to St.Louis)

    Fun Colorado Avs fact: We've had Dano and Saad on our roster in the last two season. (Dano didn't last long and went back to Columbus).

    Rick Nash was heavily criticized in New York by fans due to his lack of scoring early on . But He backchecked every shift was always on the penalty kill that year. He had other teammates picking up the scoring too while the opposition was focused on him. His role changed and was an essential piece for the team making it to the final. He was a great ranger.

      @@neroameealucard945 heya!!! Yeah... Panarin was my fave at that time... Still stings... And omg when he still hits a puck at the end of warmups to Kaner?!?! Just gets me lol... Never did I ever think I would feel physical pain in a friggen hockey pairing being broken up, but here I am lol 😆

      Is it just me or did Steve not mention that Panarin wound up on the Rangers anyway and is tearing it in Broadway? (I know he signed in FA)

    • @vampirefroggie
      @vampirefroggie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ariccua6101 I think it was technically left off since it wasn't a trade, Panarin left for the Rangers, so that detail is not part of a "trade tree" but Steve could have also left it off because there was A LOT of info here lol

    I gotta nice trade tree for ya. I'm a Devils fan, You're a Leafs fan. You're around the same age as me I'm guessing(34) maybe 2-3 years younger. So I know you remember this. The Doug Gilmour trade to the Devils. The trade tree is interesting on the Leafs side. Includes A Masterton Winner and 1,000 game guy, a Selke nominee, a 1st round pick, a longtime Oilers Captain( So Oilers fan Steve will enjoy that)and an early 2000's EA NHL cover boy. And it would be nice to see some 20th century trades that aren't the huggest trades ever like Gretzky and Lindros. I feel like anything before 10-15 years ago gets heavily ignored, except for the huge ones. What do ya say? Help a guy out!

    How bout the Ron Caron “offer sheet” tree. While with the Blues, that man redefined the definition of offer sheet madness. It would be interesting to see what it cost the Blues in the late 80’s/90’s.
