Wow... This brings back some memories. I worked at Babbage's in 95-96, then when our store was closed the day before Thanksgiving of 1996, I was transferred to Software Etc. (we had both in our mall). I left for college, but still worked at the store during my breaks and even after I returned home in the same SETC store (but as Gamestop). I had a lot of fun working there, especially since we sold both PC software and console games back in the day. Other than the big stores (Best Buy), there isn't any place like that around anymore. Anybody else remember the "Radio Neostar" tapes?
I used to go to Babbages during the late 80s early 90s. The white color of the store was a clean look, and games were always easy to find, unlike the cluttered look of GameStop stores nowadays.
I remember those tv monitors that sat in the windows at Babbages showing gameplay footage of all the new crap coming down the pipe. I admit I was impressed at a clip of Panzer Dragoon for the Saturn back when it was surprise-released in May of 1995. Fortunately, I wasn't taken in as I was saving my hard-earned 90's cash for the upcoming PlayStation and the eventual August 1996 release of the N64. And weed. Mostly weed.
Man, another chain relegated to the retail graveyard. For those who don’t know, Babbage’s was the predecessor to GameStop, and is the founder of GameStop in the mid 2000s. The chain merged in 1994 with Software Etc. to create Neostar Retail Group, but the two chains continued operations as if they were still separate, thereby causing the group to go bankrupt in ’96. The company was then rescued by Barnes & Noble who created Babbage’s Etc. and managed to keep the company afloat as Babbage’s until 2004, when the company launched GameStop and merged everything into the GameStop banner. It was in ’05 that the company completely restructured and thus the chain we all know now, was born.
Was the voiceover guy on antihistamines? But babbages is dead and was in a our local dead mall! they used to post the TOP 10 sold video games ona display outside of the store. later this store morphed in a doll hobby shop, place for the beanie baby craze.
+Sascha Man so you're openly admitting to stealing my idea? So, here we are with a public record (that I just screenshotted) of me saying I will parody this and you telling me you will do it too. Wow. Okay. So regardless of which of us make the thing first, here lay proof I came up with it. Wow.
You can really feel the passion and enthusiasm in the narrators voice!
***** Ya, it's like just calm down dude!
Wow does THIS bring back some memories. I was a store manager in 1997...totally remember I had to watch this before my regional Mgr visited my store.
gaming stores looked cool especially in the 1990s
Lmao the Goldeneye 64 music playing in the background.

Those Mario statues probably worth quite a bit now if still intact
i called the 800 number and its still a current number used by nintendo lol
Gaming back in the 90s were unique and full of spirit, no DLC, expansions, annoying system updates etc.
I never realized how fun video games could be until I heard this guy talking about selling them.

Wow...I remember Software, Etc. and Babbages. These videos are bringing back a LOT of memories.
Don't forget most Babbage's turned into Electronic Boutiques and eventually turned into EB Games...
All the passion of a man with a sniper's laser trained on his head.
Rip Babbages you are missed.
really cool video thanks for uploading.
I have the n64 fiber optic sign in this video and it's beautiful!
holy crap that number for on-line display support is still active... It's rebranded as Nintendo Retail Display Support Hotline. Same thing though
Goldeneye music in the background so cool
nothing but babbages in here tonight
Nintendo gave drills in the promo stuff? Damn...that's dedication to their merchandising.
2020 anyone???

This is astounding
So babbages was an original videogame store before GameStop?
This was Gamestop before they changed the Name I believe?
Really want to find one of those N64 fiber optic signs now lol
Almost US$2000 on ebay
I don’t suppose there was any room left for a PlayStation section?
yeah, seems like all of that stuff nintendo had stores use for displays was just to make it more difficult to have a store display anything else
Feed the Power Cord to the Electrical Outlet. Feed the Dollar Bills to Nintendo.
Cuando Nintendo era un monopolio 😮
The music
Phone number is still active! Haha. April 2020.
