  • Here is a instructional video that was shown to Nintendo Merchandisers in 1992. It goes into a little bit about many of the Nintendo Interactive Retail Store displays they would be seeing, including displays for the NES, SNES and Gameboy. One of the coolest video's I have ever seen! Enjoy!

    No modern kid would understand the feeling we had as children, going into a store and walking into the video game section that looked like this! Just to play the console and stare at all the video games on the other side of the glass. It's what made Xmas time so special. We lived it and this is why we watch these videos. To try to get a tiny glimpse of that feeling again.

    My uncle was pretty much like this guy ( and still is lol )! He was in his mid-20's back then. He knew everything about video games. He brought me to the arcades and introduced me to plenty of classics. Space Invaders, Missile Command, Galaga, Pac-Man, etc. One day, he brought a NES he rented at the Japanese rental store. That's right: our first rental store was owned by Japanese people ( my hometown was a small town so they were the only immigrants and it was a big thing for us lol ). They had the Japanese version of the NES too, a Famicom, and plenty of games I never saw elsewhere until roms came out. I still remember vividly how the store was made, where the shelves were, the carpet rug and everything.
    My first crush ever probably was the Japanese girl behind the counter of that store. I called her "Nintendo Girl" because all they had at that time was Nintendo stuff. She hated us kids and would put pressure on us to rent games and stop wasting time. She had a strong Japanese accent and man, she was severe when our parents weren't around. She scared and fascinated me at the same time. Her brother ( or maybe boyfriend but I always wanted to believe he was just her brother ) would barely even speak. I would sometimes go to that store and not rent anything because I just wanted to look at the Nintendo Girl, then when I'd feel like she was going to get mad at me, I'd take a couple of quarters out of my TMNT-themed wallet and buy myself a jawbreaker bubble gum or two. Obviously, she didn't know about my feelings ( I was just a kid anyway ) and she just thought I was trying to steal stuff in the store, that I was up to no good. One day, Blockbuster came in and they closed the store and I never saw them ever again. Whenever I find an old nintendo video like this one, I think about her lol.

In the end we hanged out and we finally told each other that we had a crush , I didn't even know she liked me but she did.. But she already had a boyfriend at the time and she said that the only reason she was going out with him is b/c he reminded her of me.. I miss independant games and rental shops like that, the staff were generally much more interested in games and there was always a massive selection of obscure preowned games going back generations, most had quirky props and displays too so it was always fun to go in and look around, the big chains these days dont even bother with those cardboard displays anymore haha, very lifeless and boring.

      Nope. It was how us 1980s and 90s kids got some games to work properly. These carts can somethings not work if you don't clean it or set it in right. I recall the "blowing into your cart" technique that sometimes it works, but it is better to just get a q-tip with a little alcohol and swip it over the reader inside where the game connects to the console. I also recommend doing this to clean the inside of the console. Always use alcohol or alcohol based cleaners like Windex to clean your systems. Water takes longer to dry and will damage the system.

      Yep and 80s as regular nintendo came out in the 80s though and was awesome. It came out when I was 2 in 1985. Me and my brothers played it all the time in 1988 and 1989 threw the early 90s. Especially Punchout and Metroid.

    • @EduardoDanielFerreira
      @EduardoDanielFerreira 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I mean u joke but that's still how most cabinets work thing is almost no stores use cabinets anymore and just use a tv
      the sound in these machines was never meant to be changed more than once realistically also it stopped random people from changing the volume without the store owner knowing so there was no point in having any kind of regular buttons or knobs
