Great job Mrs. Wranglerstar, thank you for modeling the gear for us, you looked great!
Thank you Cody for taking the time to put together this excellent review, I look forward to future updates.
Over 6000 thumbs up got us this review guys, we should have AT LEAST 6000 thumbs up for the review too!
You are welcome,
Cody
He sure does some pleasin don't he...
+Colin Keevil # 6,000 right here...lol
Mrs W is a great sport. Cody, thanks for the inside look at the firefighter gear. And thank you for putting yourself out there in the thick of it.
I did a little bit of wildland firefighting when I was on a VFD a few years back here in East Texas. That was some of the hardest work I have ever done. But it was a BLAST! Great video and once again you were out shined by the Mrs.
God Bless.
Always interesting seeing how things are done in another country. Thanks for taking the time to edumacate us! :)
You are welcome Pete,
wranglerstar Are you allowed to wear goggles with tinted lenses?
Mrs. Wranglerstar was 'voluenteered' as we like to say. ;) Many thanks to the both of you for taking the time to share all your knowledge with all of us!
I really enjoyed you showing this gear to us. I never would have known otherwise.
I did both a hot shot crew and truck crew. For sure my favorite hand tool was my Pulaski. While watching your video I was explaining to jeepgirl, just how the fire shelter worked and how you deploy it. Thanks for sharing. ollllllllllo
Brings back some great memories from 20+ years ago. Great looking gear. Much of it looks similar but there's a few smart technological changes like that shirt collar. Of course it sounds more regulated then we had back then too. Thank you for the great video and the fond memories of those adventurous days.
Mrs. Wranglerstar, you are a sport. Thanks for the great description of all of the gear. Stay safe out there!!!
That's a lot of gear to carry around! Thank you for this series. I always here about the firefighters putting wildland fires out here in Colorado, but have never understood how they do it. Now I have a better understanding!
I never fought wild land fires, but I have fought grass, brush and lower forest fires. Along with structure fires. But, that was back quite a few years ago. Hot nasty work, but, I loved it. Now my son carries on as a professional ff/pm for the city of Houston. W did get to fight a brush fire side by side, when he was younger. I think that was when he got the call. Kudos, Cody.
That skid is awesome, and a great idea! Nicely done!
Great review. Always wondered what the fire shelter was made of. Valuable indeed!
cool gear cody and i was a benton 1 firefighter for six yrs and we call the fireshelter
turkey bags and shakenbake bags and yes they work very will.
I absolutely love seeing these videos, I'm a beginning firefighter in my community but we don't see brush or wild land fires the size that you do, so seeing these vids is great. Would love to see more of your regular bunker/turnout gear too, maybe some philosophy on your setup. Thanks for sharing!
I'll add this to my list,
May we never foget the 19. Lost here in AZ. Thanks for the vids
Most informative, thanks.
God Bless you guys who run into a fire while the rest of us are seeking shelter from the fire! Great video, I learned a lot! Keep them coming!
The excitement in your voice was palpable... Be safe in your truck!
Cody thanks for sharing
Another great video. Thank you
Never had a problem with the Wells Lamont leather gloves leather itself but the stitching does explode quite quickly. Last pair blew out on the index about 45 minutes into our last fire down here, wish I could find some of the heavy duty ones you are talking about on the video. Great job as alwase!
Hats off to the FSS model. Great review Cody, thanks.
LIKE THE VIDEO!!! I want to see the rest of the gear! Great video as always. God bless your family Cody.
Good video. Thanks for sharing.
Memories of fighting bushfires in Belize CA. Given that at that time we were the only professional firefighters south of Mexico City we had our work cut out. If had reached the Bomb dump we would have lost half the country! No back up, nowhere to run and nowhere to hide! Boy I miss it!
For 8 years I have done both types and I'm Wildland trained as well. Also since then I have been using leather gloves when I work with fire when I'm camping, hiking or bushcrafting.
Cool! I like learning about stuff
Mrs Wranglerstar is the best. Thanks for sharing.
Great video you two! As a retired full time FF and a current hazard tree faller for Cal Fire it is good to see a video of your loadout. The pants are ancient but if that is what your department issues then so be it. I'd bet there is a bandana in your shirt pocket along with the sharpie. Remember the 19 and support the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. Bill
Cody, our son is working his second season as a wildland firefighter. His older brother' who just finished college, is in training and should be ready to join his brother in the next week or two. Great summer job for college kids. Thanks for reviewing the gear they use.
Soo cool! Thanks for the review and thanks to everyone for the thumbs up needed!
As mentioned in another video comment...spending a couple seasons working fires for the USFS in the late '80's were some memorable times. The equipment remains the same presumably since it works....save the fire shelter which the effectiveness depends on so many factors. Thanks for the enjoyable video. Keep up the good work.
I rememebr getting issued all this kit once when being sent to Montana, back in my Army Days, to fight a wildland fire. we use that white pouch you carry your canteen in to carry our fire shelters. That was some scary training. The pictures fo crews who were over ran by fires is just awful. Thanks for posting, and nice to see your layout. I have myself one fo the Hot Shot Load out rigs from Mystery Ranch. Talk a bout a nice piece of kit.
Correction we had a small canteen in that pouch. It's been over 25 years ago. the training took a week or more I beleive, and was scary like i said. I would rather be sent to a war zone, fire are more unpredictable.
Very interesting stuff,, thanks for sharing !!
Nice job getting the Mrs. Wrangler star involved.
Awesome video
Very Nice!
Oh man, when you flipped the head lamp on and she gave you that look- that look our wives give us- that was funny.
Great video
She is always precious, even in Nomex gear.
that's awesome!
You're at 5K! It's time!
This aged well!
As a professional firefighter in Toledo OH the comment in the first video, " structural firefighters need heroes too", had me cracking up!!! That was pretty funny!
I loved the video!! its nice to see people not only live off the land but Fight for it as well. everyone if you liked the video do Cody a favor and LIKE the Video! and God bless
Looking forward to part 3! ;)
very interesting. FYI I splurged on a pair of Stihl branded leather work gloves and they are really great. Might be worth checking out if you see them. Peace
I did a few seasons on a helitack crew in Idaho. It was fun
I was just thinking that same thing. Mrs W is definitely a good sport about all the stuff you do to her! LOL!!
Yes, those are ALICE clips. It stands for All Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment. ALICE gear was still being issued in the military until MOLLE replaced it.
Nice job, pal. Love it.
# 6292 nice to see the nuance in gear.
Good video. FYI the BBC have started a documentary series this week called Wildfires 2014. It shows the Australian Rural Fire Service, their methods and technology. You should be able to watch it online should you wish.
Very helpful, for clothing, and glad to have had a glance at those boots. Being I live in MN. I will have to pay a visit to old Adam down there. About the gloves, I couldnt find real good ones either, so, I bought welding gloves. A bit stiff at first and big, but, if ya ever need them, you'll be happy you have them.
Is FSS gear and tools available to the public?
My wife used to tease me about my tan. I only have to "think" about the sun and I'm brown. She always said I part Indian. Well, lo and behold, I am. Native AND Swedish. I was adopted as an infant and didnt find out until about 4-5 years ago. Blessings to you and yours, and still praying for that special someone for God to place in your lives.
Good video thank
They probably want an incandescent light because they are on the red spectrum which has much better penetration through things like smoke as opposed to the blue spectrum light from LEDs that diffuses much quicker.
Like number 4,632, keep it up Cody, quality vid's
very nice
5000+ thumbs up ... hint hint old boy... ;0)
MRS WRANGLERSTAR GETS DRESSED FASTER THAN ANY WOMAN IVE EVER KNOWN LOL
very informative, always wanted to do that but a little long in the tooth for it now. lol
Thanks again man! Awesome, video! Hopefully you or any of your guys never need to use one of those shelters though... Yikes!
I ended up with two 2nd generation shelters after my years in wildland fire. 8yrs later I was at a estate sale in central Oregon and on the wall was a red FSS 14day pack and a yellow FSS. I asked how much for both, man said $8 bucks but when I opened them up I found two more shelters inside the packs. I told the man what I found and he said "if you know what they are you can have them for free"
It's funny how some of our SOP's. differ in some ways I got red carded as a strike team leader this keep up the good work Cody
Can't wait for the training videos always wondered how much training it takes to get your red card.
Love the comment about structural FF's needing heroes too. Made me laugh. I had a pair of the of the FSS gloves. I absolutely agree with you. Great gloves!! If you ever find where you can buy them, please, please, pass it along!
I sure will,
wranglerstar Is there a MFG tag or stamp inside those gloves? Maybe way deep inside?
We want a close up overview of the pulaski!!
5000 already!!
Haha, seems like I had half that gear in the Marines.
Hope you get 5000 thumbs up. I would like to see what is in the pack!
She looks like a G I Joe character. WILDFIRE would be the name.
Beutiful model.
Great clip at the end. I really love sped up footage esp when it is well done. I did not know about your native ameican background. I studied several nations in detail and helped in some publications
Can you do a walkthrough of your structural gear if it is vastly different?
I second that Cody lets see how quick you can get the whole SCBA on, lets see your best time full suit up and SCBA on, do you guys use the 30 min or 45min tanks?
You were voluntold Mrs. Wranglerstar. That's what we'd say in the Army and since I noticed other comparisons to the military....
That made me laugh out loud. I'll have to use that one...
my friends got a relatively small (thankfully) severe burn on his arm from molten plastic about five years ago, he still has a deep scar on his arm and it almost looks like the skin there melted. Molten plastic is not a fun thing by any means
Would it be better for your home rig to be mounted on a trailer? Have everything setup parked next to the water tower for quick hookup and deployment. A good cover on the pump or mount it inside an enclosure.
Also would it be a good idea to pickup the 275 gallon tote pallets to stage water storage around the property that dosnt have water to refill at?
Mrs.W.sure did a great Turn-Out with the Gear. Thanks 4 sharing ATB Terry
" GOD BLESS "
Thank you Terry,
COME ON! Let's get this to 5 thousand already.
I still have all my gear in my go bag ready to grab and run even though those days are behind me. Kept my stuff because you just never know do you.
so if she didn't volunteer I guess that falls back to my military days.. she was Voluntold?
Cool video, what's the best way to straighten out a bowed axe handle?
She looks like she is ready to jump in and stomp out some fires.
Nice....I guess (no really) in the winter (sans tan) you're Irish? I miss the tumbs up tee shirt (but I did NOT forget to click it anyway) and can't wait to see what's in that magic bag! :>)
Nice work, Cody. Where can one learn more about what it takes to become a wild land firefighter?
best looking firefighter Ive ever seen. Good job Mrs Wranglerstar. Cody, do you carry any type oxygen bottle to use under the fire blanket if its needed?
Hay cody how about showing us the other kit also.
5K and I will,
Wranglerstar It’s time
Cody, something you may want to look into is the fire retardant Underarmour shirts. yes i know the original will melt but as a result of the IEDs in Iraq we had to stop wearing them since they melted and , as you said, create a melted gooey 3rd degree burn. so some companies went out and made some that will still help cool you but dont melt under the high heat.
BTW great review. i got my Red Card while in college
cool, i like the mask
good choice "making" her wear the outfit, smiled on that one (Y)
Shameless promotion is the best!
fuzees…and a few of those...
I heard the forest service is using some goats to eat a lot of the brush. Our forests have become overgrown- with upwards of thousands of trees and saplings per acre. I cant think of what a heathy number of trees per acre but I think its close to a hundred or so.
Wow...Mrs. Wranglerstar looks HOT!!!!...no really...you add to that the fire on a 75 degree slope, 102 ambient temp. and 5% humidity and carrying a chainsaw and wearing chaps!!! and knowing that you have 10 hours left on your shift and that you can't stop to rest because your crew is trying to flank and catch the head before it reaches the crest!!!! Hot is not an adequate description. Cody, did I hear you say you were out of Bend? Cool...I was a Smokejumper out of Redmond in '83.
He is Klickitat County Washington. I had a friend Redmond Hot Shots at Storm King :(
Dean Counts What a tragic loss... the decision to become a wildland fire fighter should not be taken lightly.
We hit 7k like so I'm waiting...👍🏽
Hey I hit the like button, I know it's at least 5001 by now.
I wish I could find a pair of those gloves
Man cody your gear makes mrs. wranglerstar look small!
I still think you guys put out the fires the hard way. You could just have an EXTREMELY large kegger and it would be more fun. ;)
Please add links to the videos that you mention in the description box, by the way thanks for the great videos
