I used to buy two dozen of these at a time for $2 each at an annual gunshow I go to, they were expired coast guard flares and the guy had bought a shipping container of them so they were dirt cheap, he had the smaller hand flares for $1 each, I still have a dozen or so of those laying around. The rockets make awesome 4th of July and new years fireworks, I launched a half dozen at once on a foggy night on new years a few years ago and it completely lit up the neighborhood, it was a beautiful sight. I heard cheering from all over the neighborhood after they went up, apparently everybody that saw them liked them too lol. A different time I also had one fail to deploy the parachute and it landed on a neighbor's house about a half mile away while the flare was lit😱, by sheer dumb luck it landed in a way that knocked the burning tip of the flare out and extinguished the flame, I was super lucky on that one lol.
here in Norway you get a huge fine for that. These rockets are strictly for emergencies. One of these in the air and the coast guard and rescue helicopters move out. You get the bill for the rescue mission since you used them for entertainment. Were you really in danger and fired one of these off, no cost would come to you. I kinda like that system. Having said that.. A bunch of people do use them improperly without getting caught. It's quite common. And they are indeed beautiful :)
@@andreaslied7077 If I lived in a coastal community I would definitely agree, but I'm 30 miles from the nearest body of water so it's not really a big deal, if I was in a remote area and aircraft were in the sky I wouldn't do it either, but where I live it's not so uncommon to hear the occasional loud boom or mortar shell go up in the air, so people don't bat an eye at rocket flares.
