Great job and wonderful explaining. Sweet little girl. She reminds me of mine, when she was that age. Enjoy her because time goes so fast, the next thing you know they're all grown, and you're missing them being small.
Thank you so much. Reveal. You simplified the word. Others would just say it but you sir, pointed out the concept. The whole video is awesome! Great job.
Awesome. Thank you. I have a simple country add on house with no style. I'm trying to give it a craftsmen look. This window trim is perfect for me. I'm going to do exactly this. Thanks.
I loved it, specially the header, that’s what stands out to me making wider, just live how that looks , you were the only one so far that did that. We also did our header wider on our door header. 👏🏽
I'd never done trim before but after following this video I've done my whole house. I'd give myself like a "B" grade. Did a few rooms with windows just like yours and a simpler squared off trim for the living room and bathrooms. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video my friend. I'm super happy with my first trimmed out window. I will continue to do all the windows in my house. You are the best
Thank you for your kind words! I'm so glad to hear that this video could help you! Thanks for sharing. Your welcome sir, good luck with the rest of your windows!
nice job! i wish i had seen the craftsman style before i started.... i went with mitered corners on half of all my windows.... i'am going to have to live with it... great tutorial....nice view through windows looks like the mid-west.....
Glad I stumbled on you video instructions. Loved you simplistic and detailed explanations. Trim sizes, placement, quantity, measurements, and reveal. Awesome 👏
The craftsman style is my favorite. Not fussy, but substantial, with a deep sil to hold a plant or some nice bottles to catch the light. My house has a boring sil with angled underpiece, nothing on the sides or top, and a ton of holes in the drywall from cheap plastic blinds. Threw those away months ago. Been trying to figure out how to upgrade the window ever since. I suppose I'll have to use a chisel and hammer to pry off the fancy piece below my sil before I start. Thanks for making this video. You make it look easy!
Great video man. We are building a house and I’m figuring out ways to save some money and was dreading attempting this. Mainly because other videos over complicate it so much. This looks like something I can tackle.
Thanks for sharing your window casing project with is. Love it. I can probably get it all cut at the big box stores and just nail it al at home. Gos bless.
Josh, great channel. Cased all 11 new hurricane windows using your method. The front 2 bay windows, PVC casing on the outside pretty much same way as inside. Simple way to add value to my home. And that shiplap mantle with fireplace, LOOKS SHARP BUDDY. Keep the content coming, you have a new subscriber.
Thank you thank you!!!! So very detailed and I can actually see everything you are explaining for installing my interior trim. Excellent video. Beautiful work by the way!
Thanks so much for this easy to understand video. I have an old victorian home. I just gutted a bedroom and am re installing window sill and trim. I was wondering why you pre build the casing instead of attaching each piece as you go? Thank you!
Your welcome! I usually add the casing piece by piece. I do pre build the jamb though because it's simpler to keep the dimensions accurate for me. Rough window openings can range alot from the window themselves.
Great presentation. If i build all this from unpainted walnut i think the nails will show. Do i use trim screws and cover the heads with walnut colored putty? Im a bit nervous using high dollar hardwood.
Great question. I would definitely use nails, trim screws will have a larger head and is more noticeable when the hole is filled. If you are going to apply a finish after install, you can either use a stainable wood putty to cover holes. If you prefinsh the walnut then install, they make different colored wood putty’s made for this application. One can usually find most places where wood stain is sold.
I just found your page! I love everything about it. I'll be replacing all of my siding, soffit, fascia & windows this year. I've been looking at the craftsman style window trim. This video definitely reassures me to go with the craftsman look. Great work and thanks for the details.
Justin, thanks so much for your comment! I really hope my videos can help you and others alike to try something new! Goodluck on your house renovation, I bet it's going to look great!
Thank you! I use 18 gauge brad nails to nail casing into the jamb. And I use 16 gauge brad nails for casing, jambs, and base to nail into the framing. Pin nails would be a 23 gauge small needle like nails. Hope this helps!
I like the casing, thank you Josh! What type of crown molding would you use with this style? Also what size nails are you using to fasten the 1x2 to the 1x6?
Thank you! I use 18 gauge 1.5” brad nails when nailing a trim pieces together. If I go through drywall, I recommend 2” long. If one was to add crown to this style of trim, I would recommend any type with simple ,clean lines. Either square or slightly curved profile.
Thank you! I used a combination of both primed pine and mdf. I used pine for the jambs/sill. I used mdf for casing. Any place like kitchens, baths, and windows, where moisture can get, using wood is wise. I roll paint or primer before install and if I spray, after install. Depends on the situation.
Thanks Josh! This is the best farmhouse window trim video I've seen! I'll be working on my bathroom windows soon but I was wondering if there's a specific type of wood you suggest using? Thanks!
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words! I use a combination of pine and mdf for trim. For bathrooms, I would use pine or any kind of natural wood, it will handle moisture better than mdf. Mdf doesn't like water. Other places, for windows, I use pine for jamb and mdf for casing. The reason is the window sill will see water at some point due to being left open while raining or of condensation. I like using mdf for casing because it's flawless and easy to work with. Hope this helps
Do you mean build the jamb in place? I've done it before and it works fine. I just prefer building on the ground then installing. The reason is by nailing the corners together, it's easier to keep it square and the joints tight. Building in place requires more shimming to get the boards where you want them.
Great job and wonderful explaining. Sweet little girl. She reminds me of mine, when she was that age. Enjoy her because time goes so fast, the next thing you know they're all grown, and you're missing them being small.
Thanks so much for the kind and wise words! Good reminder to not take for granted my family. Yes, she is sweet and growing up so fast!

Great video man. We are building a house and I’m figuring out ways to save some money and was dreading attempting this. Mainly because other videos over complicate it so much. This looks like something I can tackle.
Wow, thank you! So glad this video can help assist you take a leap and tackle your window trim! Hopefully you can save some money building your dream!
Nice classic style trim. Could dress it up with a small crown molding on the top of the casing.
Absolutely! You could also add cove and a 1x3 on top!
That was a good tutorial. We always run a bead of glue along the edge prior to nailing, for added strength.
Good idea!
Also I appreciate the way you explain it. I understand it totally. Thanks
Simple but good looking work. little in materials and labor, but looks like a million bucks
Thank you! I that too!
Was going to pay someone to do it but you given me the confidence to do it myself. Need more vids from you lol. Great job man

Thank you for the video! Looks beautiful.
Thank you! Your welcome.
Beautiful job! What kind of nails are you using. I get confused about finish nails, brads, and pins; don't know where to use what.
Thank you! I use 18 gauge brad nails to nail casing into the jamb. And I use 16 gauge brad nails for casing, jambs, and base to nail into the framing.
Pin nails would be a 23 gauge small needle like nails. Hope this helps!
Great job. I'm doing my first window tomorrow
That's great! Good luck!

Maybe you can make a video of setting a door, love your videos
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words!
I definitely can when that comes up, most of the time I have exterior doors vs interior doors on my jobs.
So pretty thanks for the tips
You are welcome
Thanks for watching
Did you use primed pine or MDF? Also, did you spray or roll them when painting before installing? Great video.
Thank you!

Curious. Thats a replacement window or new Construction. Looks like a vinyl replacement. Simplicity, looks awesome.
Thank you.
This is a new house with a new construction window.

Two thumbs up ! Keep your jobs better.
Thank you!
Thank you, I learned a lot! what music did you use for this video?
Thank you for the feedback.
The music is on Filmora editing software!
thanks. What do you think of building the trim inside the window well ?
Do you mean build the jamb in place? I've done it before and it works fine. I just prefer building on the ground then installing.
