  • We polled our fans to see if a they believed a 1 litre ŠKODA Octavia would meet their needs. A massive 73% said the engine would be too small.
Lets just say appearances can be deceptive. Just watch.

Love mine, everybody who has been it in is very impressed. Averaging a true 53mpg over the first 7000 miles. A best of 67Mpg.

@Jack S I traded up to a Octovia Scout. No regrets on the 1.0lt other than I wished I had purchased the Cruise Control. 36000 Miles no faults. Very quiet and comfy. Only really noticed the engine when you had 4 people, a full tank of fuel and luggage, even then it just needed working harder. Would I worry about the 1.0lt, no if I needed something a little cheaper to run than the scout then I would certainly buy another one.

Guys 2020 engine technology has moved on massively from the early naughties even 90s...engine size doesn't matter so much anymore it's the horsepower, e.g 1.6 TDI 115ps vs 1.0 TSI 115ps......same pulling power from both

Ok, so I had a 1.9 TDI Octavia (105bhp) before, that engine was said to be indestructible. I maintained it well, serviced after every 10k kilometres and so on, but the engine gave up just under 200k. It was unexpected so i settled for the cheapest 1.0 petrol Octavia and I love it I have to say. Very smooth, very fast and feels strong.

ok so i have a Audi A3 with this engine (basically the same) . I remember when i went to order my car the sales rep. was telling me to get a 1lt for fuel economy and its nippy when you push it. Im a petrol head so was laughing wen he said that. I was like "i need a 1.4 DSG at the least , but it was about 4000 over my budget so i ended up ordering the 1lt DSG. I never test drove it and drove it for the first time when i was taking it home and let me tell you .....when you break in the engine at about 1000 kilometers and finally start reving the engine out it dose have power and being a 3 cylinder it sounds better than a reving 4cylinder !!! Now all i need is a K&N air filter and a chiptune and ohh boy what fun this little engine will be ! ;)
DISCLAIMER: yes it is really good on fuel economy BUT if you start pushing it over 4k rpms youll see your mpg declining very fast hahahaa

I had a chance to drive a 1.0 tsi skoda rapid rent a car, and I could not believe how well it goes. One year later I bought a 1.0 tsi karoq and could not be happier.

I've driven a 1.8T Octavia three weeks ago and a 1.0T Rapid today. They are so different they can't be compared, the 1.0 TSI almost sounds like a diesel. Looked under the bonnet and the vibration shocked me but it turned out it's normal. (Actually the 2.0 TDI in a Superb I checked 2 weeks ago is pretty quiet.)

You can not compare 1.0 tsi in Rapid and in Octavia or Kamiq.. Rapid gives a lot more vibrations in car, much more noise in interior..

What do you guys think about the endurance of this engine? I went for a test drive today with this engine, and it runs smoothly and surprisingly well performing for such a tiny engine. However I'm not sure what does it mean for the endurance, considering a small capacity engine for such torque and power? Will it reach 250.000 km and up? Or will it deteriorate sooner than that?

Since its a newer tsi I recon if you keep an eye on the timing chain and keep it changed regularly at the recommended milage it can reach high milage. That being said, 3 cylinder engines are not famous for reaching very high milages, the max I recon is around 200k miles IF you use vw approved or some other fully syntethic quality oil and change it regularly and you pay attention to the chain that it not rattles. Personally I would go with at least a 1.2 or even better: the 1.6tdi

my average consumption is 4,5L :) as a family car does not need a more powerful engine, 1.0L TSI is very good engine + regular service max 15tis change oil program ! Diesel belongs to the tractor !! never diesel !!

@The Joker yeah. That they have. Their injectors blow off very easily. Engine is only good for about 70,000 kms

I personally think that it could be the other way around. Small engine
could reach better amount of kilometers than the bigger engines. 1.4,
1.8 etc...the bigger the engine doesn't always mean that it would be
more reliable to reach let's say 200 000km and above. I was about to
order 1.0 Octavia yesterday actually, but still desided to keep my 2011
1.6tdi Octavia. 135 000km soon and not a single problem on the engine, nor the DSG7. Most likely gonna change to new Octavia in 2 years or so, when i reach 150 000km, maybe. Or maybe i just drive this untill the engine gives in :)

3 cylinders are hard to balance and as a wise man once said: "Theres no replacement for displacement" just because there is a turbo slapped on it and it makes 175NM doesnt mean that it isnt stressed. Yes it pulls nice but if you gonna use it extensively for long trips on motorways and places where you go 70 miles an hour it will wear out eventually. It is good for a city runabout and occasional motorway but its not good for constant long trips

    • @waifuracer6516
      @waifuracer6516 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Also if its an octavia there are only 3 logical choices: 1.8t, 1.6tdi, 2.0tdi. These are the engines that are there since day one (except the 1.6 because that came in with the mk2 facelift) and they are being modernised not redesigned.

@Martinsducati Man we are talking about vw here. The company that made cars like the pheaton and passat that are notorious for engine failures due to bad timing chain tensioners that cant take stress properly

I am considering to replace my 2012 Octavia 1.6 tdi, with 145k on the clock. No serious problems so far, but after the diesel gate software update I had to replace the exhaust recilculatiin system (EGR). The was cost fully coverred by Škoda. But I have lost my trust - one never kniw if this happens again... But replacing it with still unproven 1.0 tsi.... I am not so sure still ... Even though there are no problems with that engine so far.

There is nothing in performance and power to suggest that it's a 1 litre engine, as it passes all preconceived expectations with ease. It's sporty and rewarding to drive.
