This is the most simple and straight forward explanation and feel to fix an over the top swing. So many videos out there with complicated angles with your elbows and wrists yet it still doesn’t click so fast in a golfers mind. Good stuff.
100% - when he says 'I have a tendency to move to my left foot too early' it is just a matter of degree. When I do that, I hit the shot thick - when he does it, it's 1 or 2 yards less of a draw. It's good to know they struggle with the same things!
It's not a trick. The club gains in weight with speed so you have to counter that weight. What you see in pictures is the result of counter weight movements
i think this could be the most under-rated and misunderstood piece of advice for the golf swing. your hands basically have to drop inside but because your body is turning it pushes your hands back on path. i wish i'd seen this video years ago!
If you didn’t understand this before (like me) then you are either condemned to swinging over the top or to come too much from the inside on the d/s FOREVER!
Great explanation Justin. Watched you doing this on the practice day at the Rome Ryder cup. It improved my ball striking, I now dow just that as my practice swing. Thank you
I was taught this recently for the first time in over 25 years of lessons (only periodic lessons during that time-not all the time!) Combined with my making a big enough turn in b/s it makes a huge difference to quality of strike. It also means it is easier to start turning back sooner without swinging over the top. Very helpful indeed to have my lesson reinforced by seeing a video like this. Thanks very much for sharing
I used this method last week and played the best round of my life! Thank you Mr. Rose! Golf is so much fun when the ball is going where you want it to!
Most pros are way better teachers than professional teachers because they get right to it and have seen it all on a deep level of mastery, whereas the pro teachers try to drag lessons out for maximum capitalization of each student.

"As you are turning to the left, centripetal force tends to throw the club out". Why have I never seen an instructor impart this important information? And more importantly explain what to do about it.
What was the purpose of changing the camera angle towards the end of the video when Justin was demonstrating the difference between his feel and real swings?
Good video (not great). The reason?! Well, Justin explains something really important and they don't show a good view of the "real" at the end. (Pretty pointless if you don't do that.) With that said; Justin Rose did a splendid job explaining the concept. (Check out some outer videos f you want to get the "real" from different angles to make the video complete.)
good guy Justin Rose sharing so much. Great communication skills, believe he would make a great Ryder Cup captain - but that's not for another 20 years! He's my pocket pick for this weekend!
wouldn't it be better to work on something that is playable, that you can do in the actual swing, that prevents the club from being thrown out too much by the centrifugal force. and, all you have to is keep the left arm out of your peripheral in the downswing. and, it doesn't matter how much you sqat down in the pre-swing, it isn't going to stop you from leaning into the shot. and, the only way to do that is to press down with your left foot when the club crosses over to the target side of the hands in the backswing, and then increase the pressure that you apply in the downswing. this, also, helps to complete the backswing and clear the left side in the downswing.
his camera angle changes so we don't get a chance to see his 'real' from the rear view. It looked like his club was coming down slightly on the outside to me, …. and isn't that on-plane?
This is the secret. The club at the top…. The first move is the club goes straight down behind you. Then swing. Drop the club and then swing and rotate. You are now shallow.
EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE, falls victim to the misconception of the golf swing! This misconception revolves (no pun intended) around one word. Any guesses?
I thought all these guys were trying to keep the club in front of them. Pro mistake usually club getting stuck too far inside. Surprised to see him say he does this bc he wants feel of it more behind him
Justin Rose's miss is a fade or ball that goes right. If you were a player who's miss was a hook or ball that goes left, you'd do the opposite. Since his miss is a rightward ball he likes the behind underneath feeling to combat it. In golf often the opposite of what we think intuitively, is the path to success. Think about someone who slices the ball as a miss, they might think aiming more left or swinging more left will help straighten it, they are often scared to swing more the right when the ball goes to the right. Except that is exactly what they need to do it straight their shots.
@@jeffiden2508 I thought the ball was going right if you are late with your hands/club and rotate too early/fast. Wouldn't Rose want avoid being late with his club/hands in order to not hit it right. Tiger's miss is also to the right because he said he was too fast with his hips. So Tiger wants a feel that his hands come first and then his hips. Notice that's his feel.
@@anklepick9524 you just contridicted yourself in that statement. You said a ball goes right if your hands/club rotate to fast, which is incorrect. Then proceed to say tiger misses right because of the opposite, his hips move to fast. As a general rule. Arms/hands that are out of sync with your body in a manner that is too fast, will cause the ball to go left. Hips that are out of sync with your body and going too fast will cause the ball to go the left. But in reality everyone is different and balls that go left and right are only determined by club face and swing path. Its just that when your hips or hands outpace your body, the face or path is altered.
@@jeffiden2508 Yeah maybe it was a bad written sentence. But what I wanted to say is that if you are late with your hands too quick with your hip the ball goes right. Just like the example of Tigers feel. I didn't say "You said a ball goes right if your hands/club rotate to fast, which is incorrect". When I said rotate I meant hip rotation. Anyway, it's just weird that Rose wants a feel of being late with his hands when his miss is to the right. But maybe late is a wrong word compare to what you wrote "behind underneath feeling".
@@anklepick9524 I do not think he wants the feeling of being late with his hands at all.
