      Seriously, that just was the most wholesome moment ever and I immediately cried. So touching. Lady Gaga is a damn fine class act. I have a lot of respect for her. Yeah, she was a little nuts there (meat dress anyone), but she seriously came into her own and just became a really beautiful soul and a touching human.

      CODA is the type of remake that Hollywood should make more. Take a bad movie that's a bit controversial in this case with a great concept to it and improved upon it execution wise. Any type of remake could work as long as they improved something from the original, if the original had a mistake, don't do it again, learn that mistake and how to make it better

    Incase you don't know, one of the producers of CODA was the producer of the original French movie. He approached the Americans to do a remake of the original movie due to the controversy it got from the deaf community mainly at the bad representation of the sign language. He took that criticism and approached the Americans to executed the concept better and more respectfully for the deaf community

    WHY ON EARTH did the Academy channel cut off the standing ovation that Liza Minelli received with Gaga saying: “See that? The public, they love you”. Come on! Anyway, this moment was so beautiful and precious. Gaga saying to Liza “I’ve got you” and she replying: “I know, thank you.” So happy to watch Liza Minnelli on Oscar stage after all those years. Watched Cabaret recently and her performance as Sally Bowles is so vibrant. I’m from Brazil and she’s not only a national treasure, she’s a worldwide treasure and a living legend. Judy Garland’s legacy still with us. Love that. Beautiful moment. By the way, a deserved win for CODA although I was rooting for Spielberg’s West Side Story to win Best Picture

    • @BryanCostner
      @BryanCostner ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Incase if you have been sleeping under ten thousand rocks, La Famille Belier was highly criticzed by the French deaf community because it didn't have deaf actors to play deaf characters to the point they got the sign language wrong. When they got the sign language wrong, that's where the original movie fell apart atleast for the deaf community. CODA exists to fix that and made it better by having actual deaf actors to play deaf characters. The community praised the movie more positively than they did with the original.
      Also the producers of the original movie, produced this remake so that's not an issue for it. Good for the French producers gave a blessing for this movie and won an Oscar for Best Picture together with the Americans. It was actually the French producers that approached the writer and director of this movie to remake the original movie, they took the criticism of the original movie and ask the Americans to fix it, improved it, make it better and more respectful to the deaf community. Don't assume a remake can't be better than the original because they can, this movie proves it. CODA had only three Academy Award nominations and won all of them. The film won Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor just like what Green Book did in 2019(won Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor). It is noteworthy that CODA is adapted from the French film La Famille Bélier(The Bélier Family) and actually the original French film only won one César Award(César Award for Most Promising Actress) in France in 2015. It is interesting that Apple won the Oscar for Best Picture ahead of Netflix. This win was absolutely a victory for Tim Cook/Apple and also a victory for the French production team.

    The Preferencial ballot is a real factor and there’s no better example than this.
    I bet that PotD, would’ve won if it were decided by traditional voting. Power of the Dog literally won everywhere it could, there was no apparent competition until one week before, when CODA took PGA (another award decided by preferencial ballot).
    PotD, was probably the majority’s #1, but #9 or #10 for the rest, (at least for what I’ve seen) while CODA was #1 for many, and #3, #4, #5 or #6 for the rest. And that’s how you win an Oscar since 2009.

    Oscars 2022 taught CODA and Will Smith an important lesson: sometimes losing an Oscar can be much more advantageous than winning. Calm down, I'll explain.
    - In the case of CODA, being among the nominees was already a great victory. But Sian Heder's film will age badly over time, suffering the same curse as other award-winning films such as: A Beautiful Mind, Crash and Green Book.
    - While Smith... well... if he had lost Oscar at least he would have avoided the damage he did to the rest of the ceremony.
