This totally mirrors my '86 Pup w/turbo diesel. Sat for 15 years. I stuffed a rag in the air cleaner to keep water out when pressure spraying. My buddy put the lid on without getting the rag. It started, but wouldn't rev at all. Took a minute to remember the rag. Lucky it didn't get sucked into turbo. And my alternator won't charge.
I have a cute Lil Holden (Isuzu) KB Rodeo DLX 4x4 Twin/Crew cab Tray (Chev Luv) I bought off a farm thinking the DLX was a diesel but its actually a 1.6l fuel/Gas engine.
Great lil thing I got 3/4 sorted one winter but popped in my storage spot for later and now im tempted to haul her out and give her some more Luv......
5 speed Manual gearbox, 4x4 and it has AC which is hilarious!

I had a Luv once. Gas, just a great little truck. Merry Christmas guys.
I can’t wait to see more of the LUV. I put a K03 turbo (from a VW 1.9 gas engine)on a Kubota 2.2 diesel and get about 25 pounds of boost on it. The K03 is very common and cheap. To keep the vacuum brakes I used a Leed Brakes Bandit Electric Vacuum pump bought from Summit Racing. This thing will be awesome when it’s done. Merry Christmas!
Your cursive handwriting skill are great. Especially using a power washer to do it. It is a shame that schools don't teach this anymore, at least in my area.
Because its based on an Isuzu, have you looked for parts in Asia?
Especially Thailand, they seem to have alot of NOS and/or repro parts for old Japanese cars.
Also, the Philippines, where the Isuzu-powered Jeepney is king.
Once its set right, you will have a 100% chance of getting to where you're
going...but you won't be first there :)

I love those old Chevy Luvs.. I always wanted a 4x4 Luv.. Yours is in Great shspe as far as The body. Even the engine sounds good..Those Engines were good ones. Cant wait to see more of the Old Luv.. Put a smaller Turbo she will Be alot of Fun..Its just too bad shes not a 4x4...Great Video...

I had a chevy Luv back in the late 80s . It hauled many tons of steel, trash, brush because I used it to clean up an old (1890) house and lot. It was full of rust even back then but totally handled being overloaded. It was light blue, white highlights, and rust...
The Isuzu NPR trucks with the 5.2l run an alternator with a vacuum pump on the back of it. They even run a v belt setup as well. Almost positive you could make one work.
Always liked the little Chevy luv pickups hope you guy's had a Merry Christmas.
My first truck was a 1975 LUV. Brings back a lot of good memories!!

for years I had a 1980 Luv 4x4 with the little isuzu 4 cylinder gas engine. It was my daily driver. Painted it a slate blue. Even though it was under powered, I still loved that little truck. Wish I still had it.

Put any alternator you want on it, there are electric vacuum pumps available to run the breaks.
You two are such a cool couple. So good to see Emily taking this in as much as you. What a gift of a person you have in her. And your demeanor is super nice as well. Shear pleasure watching you two work over the Luv.

@@flyingsparksgarage Your quite Welcome. I love those lil trucks with Diesels in them. I had a Luv truck some 40 years ago. Now I have a 98 S-10 with a 2.2 Isuzu sitting in the engine bay area. That was from a 1983 Gmc s-15 that the cab literally rusted away. But the engine and tranny are still good to go.

I just love diesels, I was never into them at first, but once I saw a few TH-camrs with Cummins or power strokes and Duramax, I started liking them, especially the duallys and how good they look

My Brother had a 1975 4X4 that would go everywhere. too bad it didn't have a deasil engine. Nice truck and kinda fun to work on. Just small.
My Pa drove the Australian market version of this ute. It was called a ISUZU KB25. 1.6L G16 engine, 4 speed box. flat tray fitted (which is the general rule in Australia. they are imported as a Cab/Chassis and local manufacturers fit a tray body) he fed the cows off this ute for more that 15years. which of course means all the under carriage rotted away. i must have put 5 exhaust systems on it .

Repaired/ serviced a ton of these and other light duty cars and trucks

You can get Diesel Landcruiser Alternator w/ vac pump from AUS for cheaper than a one wire and a e-vacuum pump, you might have to swap the pully
Vac pumps from Volvo S40's work pretty well for situations like this, as well as race cars. From that same car, the electric PS pump is a nice upgrade for those old leaky belt driven ones.
A friend of mine had a diesel 4x4 luv. I’ve never saw another one. Nice little trucks.
40 years ago I remember these trucks. most were rust out at that time.

Alternators appear to be available on ebay. Not certain it is the exact fit, but their is what appears to be a vacuum pump on the back

My father in law had a Toyota small diesel truck from the 70’s I think it mid 70’s tan and we built a rack and put over 400,000 miles on it for his overhead door business. The Isuzu engines were very solid and big in Japan for many of their commercial vehicles. I bought my wife an Opal which was made by Isuzu in 1977 great little compact. The motor was just a Brut but like many 70s cars interior was cheap plastic.
Go one wire alternator, add electric vac pump . Those chevy hate trucks are tough. It would be fun to mod one
I like the idea of custom made steel rims.
I am impressed with Sarah-n-Tuned's choice of stock steel rims
on her brand new Bronco. Would love the Luv as a daily intown
daily. Can't go wrong with an Izuzu diesel and stick.
My brand new 1979 Bronco had spokers from American Wheel,
came with the truck, very thick material for a 1/2 ton. Miss that beastie.
I have a 1983 ford ranger diesel 2.2 LOVE IT
Loved my LUV, put over 200,000 miles on it. Drove it to Alaska 9 times. Unfortunately it rusted away, sad.

might find the alternator is common across other izuzus diesel engine so a quick replace job instead of making brackets etc. also it could be worth investigating why alternator died. could be it just needs a new set of brushes and those are cheap and easy to fit usually
That's a cool truck with a fun engine. I had an '81 Chevette 1.8L Isuzu diesel that I bought new and ran high 30's to low 40's MPG. I had to install an inline fuel heater after pushing the car through a snowstorm one bitterly cold Christmas eve to a gas station that thankfully sold kerosene that broke up the frozen diesel fuel.
BE ADVISED that the Isuzu diesel is an interference engine with a rubber timing belt. From sad personal experience, I know that when that belt lets go under power, it will bend the valves and explode with such force that most of the rockers and bolts will shear off of the cylinder head.
Please replace it now, before you run the engine much farther.
That is the coolest little truck. We have to love a Chevy luv!

You guys have such great taste in vehicles. I traded my 69 Bronco in for a Yellow Chevy LUV. Used it as my transport vehicle when I was still in to motorcycle racing. Regrettably, I had the anemic gas burner instead of an oil burner. Another one of those vehicles I wish I never traded in.

The 1700 cc suzu diesels used in the UK by general motors in the 90s Vauxhall Cavalier/Combo van/Corsa (and probably some others I'm forgetting) used the same vacuum pump set up. They also had a turbo variant so that may be a place to look for a new turbo option.

Merry Christmas. 🎄🎁 I use to have a Chevy Luv. My friend had it when they had a race shop. His dad built it for him. It was white with fat blue race stripes. Had a large Isuzu motor in it, pozzi rear end, traction bars and adjustable shocks. The first day it was out of the paint shop he took me for a ride. We went around a corner and he slid it into a concrete mailbox. It dented the b pillar and edge of the box on the passenger side. He was so pissed. When we got back to his house he threw me the keys and said “do you want it” so I got the truck. A couple days later I went to his house. I knocked on the door, his dad opened it up and without saying a word he punched me in my jaw. I fell back against the house and he said hold on I’ll get Wayne. Lols His dad was pissed. Other than the dent that truck was like show room new with a small race truck!
