  • Join me for a drive across the border between Sweden and Norway at the old bridge. Svinesund lies south east and is 178 km (110.6 miles) from the swedish city of Gothenburg and 114 km (70.8 miles) from the capitol of Norway, Oslo. See my other video from the border crossing at the new bridge.
Thanks for watching and please subscribe for more videos of Scandinavian travel, sights, food, beer, snacks and transportation.

Hej, I have a question that I was hoping you could answer. I'm visiting family in Sweden at the moment and I was wondering if it is possible to cross into Norway right now with a foreign passport, with all these COVID-19 restrictions? Are cars stopped at the border?

    • @christerhall68

Hi, all traffic is stopped and you will be asked to turn back if you are from a country with high covid-19 infection.

Is there a passport control between the borders of the two countries ? Do they check passports ? Or no ?

How is it that these two countries have such great relations to the point that their borders are so open that anyone can just cross them without their passport being check let alone their luggage and vehicles.
Hear from the US in a state very close to canada. The US and Canada do have a very good relationship. But not to the point where the borders are so open. You still have to get checked by security and have your passport stamped. There are significant few exceptions where the borders are so open people can literally just walk across from the US to canada. But if they did and they were caught they would get in a whole lot of legal trouble.
And what's funny is where some of these very open borders are. There's one that crosses in between a town, I can't remember exactly what state it's in, that it's half of the town in Canada and the other half in the US and the border is directly in the middle of the street. If you drive on the right side of the road during canada. If you drive on the left side of the road you're in the us. Nothing dividing the two countries other than a yellow line that says Canada and the US with the name of the town. One town that shares two countries or I guess two countries that share one town.
Another one where there's a town that's right next to another town in the borders very much open. Anybody can just walk right through. Again people would get into trouble and there is at least one voter guard. And there's even a library that apparently the two towns share because the library directly lands on the border. So half of the library is in the US and half of the library is in canada. If you're a US citizen you're only allowed in one half of the library. Same thing for Canadians on their half.
We literally have situations where the US and Canada are literally sharing a whole town and a whole building directly on the border and they refuse to just allow people to casually walk on through.
Granted at some point in history the people who were in the shared town of two different countries war at one point in time offered dual citizenship for each country. They denied that offer. I mean that's their choice, but why. That is so stupid!
they were offered the opportunity to have two citizenships to two different countries and be allowed to Roman either or and be able to go on the other side of said time they live in just because of the general location of their town and where they lived. And said no I'm good. I don't ever ever ever ever need to know what the other side of this time needed of town looks like. And if I really wanted to then I'll have to pay the price to go through. And they'll mention about doing it legally. Which if you have a Duo citizenship then you're basically doing it legally. You just don't have to probably do any paperwork or anything. Just show passport and keep on trucking. Literally have more freedom to go wherever the hell you want.
And I think we do have a few locations along the Mexican-American border where some towns between Mexico and America also share a border. They're less merge like the town that shares two countries on the border. But for the most part the most busiest parts of those towns meet in the middle where the border lies. And if you've heard anything about the situation with the wall between Mexico and America then you probably already know what the situation is between these two countries. It's not going too well.
You swear some of the Americans here are scared they're going to be ethnically cleansed from this country they were never native to to begin with. They have more genetic relation with the people from Britain the Dutch more than they do any actual natives of the American land. But don't tell them I said that, then they'll get little bit pissy and act like they've been there forever.
