    Small differences, like Sweden has white lines in the middle of the road, and yellow backgrounds in their signs. Norway has yellow lines in the middle of the road, and white backgrounds in our signs.
    As you discovered, if you have nothing to declare, you can pass through the green zone, and usually nothing happens. However, you might be stopped for a random search, hence the low speed limit. If you carry anything that needs to be declared and passed on the green, you're in trouble.

      Also some difference is the material used in the road, some roads in Sweden use more red colored rocks while in Norway it’s mostly black and grey, also the forests are different, some of the Swedish forest is more only few types of trees used for forest industry and their forests are more cut down and organized, while in Norway because of regulation our forests are a bit more messy

    Norway is one of the most beautiful countries on earth. Gorgeous. As a Swede by birth (although living in the US for the past decade) I have visited Norway many many times. A few years ago I brought my American (Texan) wife to Sweden and Norway and she fell in love with both countries: the gorgeous mountains and fjords and waterfalls in Norway and the countless lakes and endless forests and fields in Sweden. Both countries are so much more lush and green than what we get here in Texas.

    The grassed roofs on modern buildings does have a purpose (on old buildigs as well, but that's another story). Most building codes in Scandinavia requiers the builder to build a certain amount of green spaces for CO2 and rainwater retention as well as heat island effect migation. The cheapest way to do that is to put it on the roof, since it does not require aditional land purchase.
    I've been in construction in Sweden for 20+ years, done a sh*tload of those types of roofs.

    The only time in during my lifetime where the border crossings between Sweden and Norway have been difficult must have been during the pandemic. I didn't try at that time, luckily. But every time before that, it has almost been the same, sometimes no one (visible) looking at you, sometimes a custom/police officer on one of the side stopping all cars, having a small chat and then you where free to go. Even though Norway is not a part of EU, I think it is still part of the "Shengen"-agreement the EU-border agreement ... And it is also part of the Scandinavian agreement ... Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Fareo Island (I think) and Island ...

    The speed limits are actually pretty simple.
    In a town or city it is almost always 50km/h and outside it is 80km/h. The 60km/h is an exception in this area, that's why it get's canceled at the end

    • @aphextwin5712
      @aphextwin5712 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, in most if not all of Europe there exist default speed limits, usually three different ones for inside cities, outside of cities, and motorways. Only when sections have lower speed limits than those default limits are there signs indicating this. The strike-through speed limit sign simply means, the speed limit reverts to the default one for the current type of road.
      All border crossings should have signs indicating what those three default speed limits are for the country you are entering.

      The open border between Norway, Sweden and Denmark predates Schengen by several decades. This agreement actually became a problem since Norway isn't a member of EU. There should have been a Schengen control at the border, but both Norwegians,Swedes and Danes went bonkers over it, since we're practically one country in many ways. So Norway was included into Schengen.

    As far as that question of whether or not there are snakes in Norway when you were walking down the path to the river the answer is basically "none to be worried about". There's only one venomous snake here, the European Viper (called hoggorm here, which literally translates to "striking snake"). The venom _can_ kill a human, but for the most part it's not strong enough to be lethal to a healthy human adult (you should always seek medical attention as soon as possible if bitten by one, though). I'd say the chances of encountering one at the time you were there would be miniscule. Too cold. When the temperature goes below 13 degrees celcius they burrow down into the ground (or find an existing hole) to hibernate for the winter. Norway (and Scandinavia/northern Europe in general) is pretty free from venomous critters capable of harming humans, really.

    Sweden and Norway don't actually have a big customs check.
    They mostly check Trucks and vans, but cars can pass without checkup.

    You are lucky with the border crossing to Norway. Normaly they check all you papers and dogs sniffing the car.... even they check your carpapers/carinsurance....

    The one shock for me, as a Swede, was the signs (lack of signs) and road tolls in Norway . I'm driving 60 as the signs tell me...all is well. Suddenly there is a new sign..Not 60!!? I never understood the use of a sign that say Not xxx speed. You could as well put up a sign with the correct speed...or?
    And the condition of the road has absolutly nothing to do with the rated speed. It seems to be depending on if there are houses along the road or not.
    The last 10 years there have been improvements with the signs. Now you can find your way without having been to a place before :)

    • @Speedy6617
      @Speedy6617 ปีที่แล้ว

      Speed is set as to road widt, curvature, amount of traffic and visibility. It is an insane system that makes for lots of unwanted regulation. Even the road workers hate it.

    • @secularnevrosis
      @secularnevrosis ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Speedy6617 Yes. There seems to be a couple of strange solutions regarding traffic. I got blinded by cars all the time in Norway. I couldn't understand it until a friend told me how it works, road turns this or that and you must turn off your full beam, when meeting a car.
      I was used to the Swedish system. What ever the condition, if you or the car to meet turns off their full beam, you/meeting car does it to. Simple!

    • @Speedy6617
      @Speedy6617 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@secularnevrosis As to full beams the rule is: If you come close enough to feel the lights as an issue you should blend down. This is beeing learned tru mandatory dark driving when one takes the license. In my car i blend down athleast before 500m. In the big rig i used to drive 1000m.
      It is a weird system. But very good on dark back roads.

    • @secularnevrosis
      @secularnevrosis ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Speedy6617 My friend, and I, are a bit older. So if it has changed it's good. He explained that the blending down had less to do what the the other car was doing but more what you were doing. With a lot of rules regarding if the road turned, distance etc.
      But if you are to blend down as soon as the other guy does it or you are and vise versa...it's now the same as I was taught in sweden.

    The fermented shark is an Icelandic "delicacy". I have never seen that in any shop or restaurant in Norway. We have our own crazy traditional foods here: Sheep's head, served whole, with teeth and eyeballs and everything. Gross and off-putting beyond belief to me, and I'm not a picky eater.

    Norway is not in the EU, but is part of the Schengen area. The 2 are often mixed up, but the EU is a political organisation whereas Schengen is an agreement that abolishes border controls - some countries (Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania) are in the EU, but not Schengen, and others (Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein) are in Schengen but not the EU. All EU countries have a Customs Union (including non Schengen ones) and no customs checks, though non EU countries in Schengen still have customs. Customs and immigration are not the same thing - immigration is checking passports and asking why you're coming etc. Customs is for checking what you're bringing in - making sure you don't have very illegal things like drugs and weapons, but also that they meet regulations (though regulations are generally the same in Norway as in the EU, being part of the European single market) and making sure you have paid duties and tariffs. There are no tariffs on Norwegian goods in the EU (except fish, agricultural products, alcohol and tobacco) or vice versa, but you could be bringing in foreign goods, given Norway has different tariffs and deals to the EU (which has a common trade policy). Therefore goods have to be checked. Chances are, you won't be stopped in a car, on foot or on a bus/train, but you always could be. Checks are more on lorries but there are some computer systems to make things more streamlined, as most goods will be all clear and should all be up to single market standards.
    TLDR: Norway checks goods flowing between them and the EU, because they have their own trade policy, despite being in the single market, but don't carry out passport checks
