  • NOTE: I've been informed that "Barnaby Jones" was spin-off of "Cannon" and not the other way around, as I suggest in the video. I guess I need to clean the cobwebs out of my brain.

I was a high school freshman in 73. The combination of the nostalgic songs and pictures is better than any movie you could see today! Kids today will never know what they missed!

A great list. The Waltons was a cultural icon. If you told anyone, “Goodnight, John Boy,” they got it. I would have included The Brady Bunch and The Midnight Special.

Omigod 73-74 was an AWESOME year for television--what I wanna know is, how do I honestly remember watching all these shows (except for Owen Marshall)?? It's not like we had vcrs back then! I haven't seen 'Medical Center' in 40+ years, but can still picture his swinging doctors bachelor pad with the giant sectional! A very belated thank you, FredFlix!!

i didn't even like all these shows but i still watched them anyway (i was born in 68). alot of them i remember more from re-runs (late 70's/early 80's) than i do first run. then in the 90's a bunch of 70's shows started being re-shown on cable channels like A&E whenever i would go through periods of unemployment i'd watch certain ones ('THE ROCKFORD FILES', 'DON KIRSHNER'S ROCK CONCERT', 'POLICE STORY', 'NIGHT GALLERY', 'THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL' and 'SWAT' certainly). i'm L.A. born and raised and since so many of these shows were filmed in L.A. it was always fascinating to see how much certain areas had changed over the years from the early 70's to the late 90's.
lol music theme songs for tv shows were so dramatic back then. it seems comical now but it didn't seem comical at all at the time.

Isn't that the truth !!!...Not a very huge resume of his career (by comparison), But for the run he had as an actor with some favorable character acting, You're correct...It's most unfortunate that it seems that whenever "David Carradine" is mentioned, The first thing that comes to mind is not "Kung-fu" but the circumstances surrounding his passing !

I was 10 during that television season. There were so many great shows but we had one TV and 4 channels (CBS, NBC, ABC & PBS). I remember being allowed to stay up late to watch The Carol Burnett Show - what a treat! I had forgotten about the Arrid Extra Dry , which reminds me that I used Dial soap, washed my hair with Breck shampoo, drank Tab cola, ate Choco'Lite candy bars and finally, enjoyed those Swanson TV dinners (Salisbury Steak - mashed potatoes - corn - brownie) on Saturday night ... those were the days! I miss the 60s and 70s!

Back in The Day.. when Sanford & Son was on the air, every time the theme song would begin my brother Bob, (AKA as "The Amazingly Talented Brother Bob") and myself would break into our infamous "Sanford & Son Jiggity Jive Dance!" lol... it was a really pathetic attempt to get our father to keep the Sanford & Son show on and not tune into whatever it was that he tuned in to... never worked.. not even once, what a great dance though! 👀 After I got married many years later, I turned that dance into the "Apartment Shuffle"! To this very day my wife still requests that dance! Thanks for the memories, Fred!

    3. Watched my first whole football game on tv that year. Washinhton at St.Louis.
    2. Went to my first NFL game. I got to see a classic, and got to see why Joe Willie Namath was so popular, while watching Johnny U light up the Jets in his last "great performance game for the Baltimore Colts. However...Joe Willie put on a show of shows. I don't think Namath completed 10 balls, but he threw for close to 500 yards and 6 TD passes

Totally agree with Number one -- NBC Sunday Mystery Movie. But what happened to Planet of the Apes?

I still watch Barnaby Jones and Cannon on cable. Part of their appeal is that they are so "dated".......like rows of phone booths on the streets, no cell phones, Cannon smoking a pipe sometimes, Banacek is pretty good because I get to see the old Boston in a lot of shots. I live right outside Boston.

Best classy combo: Banacek, played by George Peppard. Boy, did I have a crush on him.

I recall having no idea who Kojak was when my classmates started talking about the show. I was a big fan of Kolchak, the bungling paranormal investigator; & that's who I initially thought they were talking about! THEY thought it was funny I didn't know Kojak. When I finally deliberately located & watched the detective series, I enjoyed it.
In those days, my go-to was fantasy, paranormal & sci-fi! Anything else, I tended to start watching because I finished my homework, & got hooked by what my folks were watching!

Cathy Vickers, I forgot all about Kolchak: The Night Stalker along with Rod Serling's Night Gallery, were two of my favorites at that time. Thanks for reminding me of how much I loved them. For some reason I never did like Kojak, there must have been something better on at the same time, because I only remember watching Kojak a few times not enough to get hooked. Although I knew it was a popular show with a catchphrase of "Who Loves Ya Baby".
