- The RX 450h is a tope selling midsize SUV from Lexus. On the outside you will find a vibrant paint job, unique wheels and special grill. On the inside you will be greeted by a 14in infotainment system, digital gauge cluster and tons of storage. Under the hood is a 2.5L inline-4 hybrid system. Is the 2024 Lexus RX 450h a BETTER luxury midsize SUV than a Mercedes GLE 450e?

For fifty something like my self, I chose the RX500h for added performance. Lexus also offers great resale value so when you're selling it 36 mo. later like I plan to, I will get a good trade-in value for my next purchase.
In this car, I think the beige doesn't say "elderly," but keeps the interior bright as opposed to so cave-like dark.

I bought one recently and love the vehicle. Only gripe is the low electric mile range. Also battery charging on 120v regular home charger takes 12 hours to fully charge the battery. 240v option charges in about 3 hours or less.

The front grill design has grown on me. I did not like it at first, but now I do. I really like the back end with Lexus spelled out and the red light going across the back. Nice wheels too, but I would prefer 19".
Joe, I love this Lexus RX450h+ & I hate to say it, I love the fake vents I think if these fake vents weren't there, the corners of the bumper would look rather bland.

This is the first RX that I have considered buying. Lexus has finally made the grille digestible. They have also shortened the front overhang. The dashboard still doesn’t impress, but the materials seem to be of very good quality. And the seats, front and back, are extremely comfortable, at least initially.

We own a Lexus CUV with similar looks...love ours and yours. They are reasonably priced luxury car and their reliability is unflappable. Nobody l know in the Industry will say anything positive about M-B reliability, anymore.

LOL - MB GLE reliability score is 36, Lexus RX 350 is 69. The 24 MB GLE already has 4 recalls including Electrical system with a fire risk, Detaching Accelerator Pedal causing a crash or injury, Fuel and Engine Oil leaks, fuel system loss of power, and stability control/brakes. Good luck with all that.

Got it. Love it. My family’s 5th Lexus, 1st new one…sold on the outstanding customer service and safety features with the luxury being a nice bonus. Have had 2 Mercedes in the past and will never have another…solidly built cars but have poor reliability and are expensive to repair. When I bought my first Lexus (traded in my last Mercedes), the owner of the auto repair shop I took my cars to checked it out (as it was used) and stated, “I’m not going to be seeing you anymore. Lexus is the most reliable car we service and they stand behind them.” BTW, that shop owner had a Mercedes with over 300K miles on it and said it was good advertising but he was working on it frequently and wouldn’t have kept it if he’d had to take it to someone else. It’s no surprise that this high end specialty autoshop owner’s personal everyday car is a Lexus.

I think GLE is better looking, but would most likely fall apart sooner than Lexus…….and more $$ to service Mercedes. But I don’t think Mercedes owners care about that.

Mercedes Benz GLE is a true luxury and reliable SUV. It's now around $72K. I have owned two so far and love them. No problem at all but just routine maintenance. NX is a compact SUV and GLE is a mid-size SUV. They are not compete in the same segment. I just test drive a 2025 NX 350 F Sport. Be very honest, it's a Toyota car with Lexus price tag.
Okay Joe, I have to ask this burning question that I think is one all our minds even though it's off topic. Have you seen the ad in the Car and Driver magazine about Pontiac being brought back? There are a lot of theories out there Joe, what's yours?

There is a 4mm wide functional vent opening on the side you just can’t see it.
That red is nice but it exposes the grill out in the open with that red. Black would hide it better

it's been so long with that new front styling that i forgot what Lexus fronts use to look like. Audi started that and Lexus said hold my beer and i think they went overboard.
I like it but I don't know if I'd spend that much money in a midsize suv.
Lexus' varied lineup of vehicles offer superior reliability and safety scores. Additionally, Lexus offers more Top Safety Picks than Mercedes. Lexus also offers a longer powertrain warranty than Mercedes for all of its models.
Sounds nice, doesn’t answer the question tho. A Lexus hasn’t been proven to be safer than a Mercedes. Try again.
@@MercOne in 2024 Mercedes-Benz has only top safety picks in the GLC and GLE in the midsize luxury suv and the c-class sedan in the midsize luxury cars. Lexus has the RZ and UX in small suvs, the NX ice, NX phev and rx in midsize luxury suvs

Mercedes and others (like Volvo) has been at the safety game before Lexus was even thought up and that all the safety innovations on your Lexus came from Mercedes and others? "Top safety pic" doesn't mean squat. Prove to me that a Lexus is safer than Mercedes based on something in the real world like death rates, injury rates. I'll wait.

2 stages of heated seats 3 stages of ventilated seats and of course 3 STAGES OF EXTRA HEATED SEATS.
Pretty car - and golly that red. You're accurate in comparing it to a GLE (or X5, etc), but I do have a hard time considering these comparable - the GLE/X5 is definitely a notch up in its RWD architecture and German sophistication. Moreso than some other Lexus models, this thing is a FWD Toyota underneath - which is no bad thing necessarily, considering the suburban mall duties it is built for. Reliable and sensible. But that's also why it doesn't feel quite as special or lux as a GLE/X5. That said, it makes for a nice middleground - not everyone wants the European complexity, and the Lexus badge is 95% as prestigious.

It takes 12 hrs with a level 1 (120V) charger and 2.5 hrs with level 2 (240V)
Too expensive. NX450h + base model is the way to go.

Beyond the warranty period, I'd 100% prefer owning the Lexus. As a lease or something I'd dump after 3-4 years, the Benz.

@@CarGeek360 the 4 cylinder in the Mercedes performs a lot better than the RX ever could. Just about every RX has the performance of a Corolla or rav4. The rx500h has the performance of a v6 Camry or rav4 prime

No car and driver is wrong for that reason. That's like comparing a TX to a GLE, but the GLE third row isn't comparable, so the equivalent is the GLS.
That interior is "ivory" which is much more white than beige, they are not the same thing.
Just get the F-Sport for performance. Get the H for gas saver w/o the performance. Get the 500h for the best of both. The principle is: “You get what you pain for.”
WRONG!!!.......... .05 quicker which is NOTHING and it Has a FREAK'n Turbo...the 450h+ Has NO turbo Naturally Aspirated regular gas!
@@donaldbanner2185 half a second actually is a big difference, especially if you drive both back to back when testing. Why are you buying expensive luxury cars and complaining about which gas you will use? the 500h styling is more preferable to a lot of people, it handles better and the rear wheel steering is way more fun around corners.

There’s no way you’re charging that battery in 2 hrs on a 120 V outlet. You probably meant to say 240v with a nema 14-50. Plug in EVs are not the best of both worlds. Go hybrid or full EV. Studies show most people don’t charge their plug in hybrids so they are Carrying around a bunch of dead weight in batteries. If you do charge it, the gas and engine are dead weight.

NOTE: This is a “NOT” repeat, not a CVT gearbox on the NX, ( many that can not afford this vehicle “try” to put it down by trying to spread this FALSE propaganda (do your research) ...this is not a CVT vehicle!)......it is an “ e-CVT “which is an epicycloidal transmission and no belt of any kind. eCVT is completely different from a cvt. eCVT doesn't use belt/band. Nothing are the same.
It's a transmission that contentiously varies, the mechanics are different but the outcome is the same !
