      They've been good friends for decades - literally. They did this because of the money involved of, who is better - Buakaw obv. is but Saenchai is more liked by the public. It is good to see, but not surprising - as the end video briefly shows Buakaw went to the hospital to see Saenchai immediately after the fight.

      Saenchai's style relies on his timing and speed, and as over 45 guy, those go way faster than you'd like. Buakaw is tremendously technical, but his style doesn't need the speed and reaction time Saenchai's does. My hypothesis anyway.

      Its tru: Saenchai vs Buakaw: The Battle of GOATS
      I would rather not have seen these two fight, I mean, not against each other.
      Because the problem with these two people, Saenchai and Buakaw, is that these two are best friends, and it is mainly because of Seanchai's good heart that Saenchai holds back and does not go all out and does not give everything against his good friend Buakaw.
      That is very clear to see, especially because Saenchai fights very differently against other, especially Cocky opponents, there Saenchai fights very differently and also on a completely different level.
      It is also the reason why Saenchai has decided not to fight against his good friend Buakaw anymore.

  • @willwailes9298
    @willwailes9298 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +157

    I think a lot of people are missing the reason why Buakaw overwhelmed Saenchai. Saenchai isn't used to people walking through his offense like that, and Buakaw took the fight where he was strongest with strategy and skill. They're both elite fighters, and while strength obviously does matter, that's not even the main factor here.
    In Jiu-jitsu, I'm able to give some of the higher belts problems because they're unfamiliar with some of the catch wrestling techniques I use, and my guard is really hard to pass. Other people are able to exploit my game by taking me where I'm not comfortable, even though I've trained longer than them. Personal style is a bigger factor than many realize. Everyone's got weaknesses, and even if you're incredibly well rounded, they can and will be exploited.

    • @prashugrashu
      @prashugrashu 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think I understand what you are trying to say. If someone doesn't have that direct experience, though, this concept is hard to believe as it goes against what people are taught in the sense that x skills are greater than x-1 skills (replace skills with whatever grade/measurement you want). What you are saying is that x skills isn't always greater than x-1 skills, there are many other parameters in play which haven't been measured yet.

    • @willwailes9298
      @willwailes9298 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @someguywholivesandbreathes4755 Not exactly. People with the exact same skill level can have different strengths and weaknesses. Someone less skilled than you can have strengths that exploit your weaknesses. Even that might be an oversimplification. Relationships differ from person to person. MMA has a lot of that. Israel Adesanya was a tough opponent for Alex Perreira, Perriera destroyed Sean Strickland easily, and Strickland destroyed Adesanya. All 3 are elite level athletes, but their styles are different, and their relationships with one another are drastically different.

    • @willwailes9298
      @willwailes9298 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @someguywholivesandbreathes4755 Different martial arts is a more extreme version of the same thing. A TKD guy is going to want to fight in kicking range, and a boxer is going to want to fight in punching range. If the TKD guy keeps him in kicking range, the boxer has lost his primary weapons. If the boxer keeps the TKD guy in punching range, the TKD guy has lost his primary weapons.
      Saenchai is well rounded, but a lot of his attacks are from that kicking range. Buakaw moved forward while defending Saenchai's attacks, and took Saenchai where he wasn't comfortable. Saenchai tried to adjust, but Buakaw just ate the shots and continued walking him down.

They were throwing telegraphed playful very wide punches and kicks not even close to full power. But the last fight was real, with I think you said some kind of gentleman's agreement not to knock the other guy out with a head punch. But some of the kicks maybe would have produced at least a knockdown if they had landed flush. Their competitive nature showed in the later rounds. Two great Legends, two great friends!

    It's a sad fact of life, when both fighters are the best...meaning trained at these levels...the bigger guy wins. There's no mystery to it, skill and technique can cover some pretty wide gaps...the widest gaps are bridged when the other fighter has less idea about how to fight. But when they are both THAT close to the same level, the bigger man is just going to win. It's not fair, but thats how it is. Saenchai is truly an amazing fighter, with such a 6th sense when it comes to fighting...but Buakaw is almost as skilled and importantly...hits WAY harder and can take WAY more punishment. That matters more than most people want to admit...even to themselves. So they lie to themselves and think they could beat the far larger and more powerful man on skill...which could work if the man has no skill, but if he's even halfway as well trained he will win. Life isn't fair.

    • @UrbanDefenseSystems
      @UrbanDefenseSystems 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They absolutely can beat a more powerful man on skill, anyone who's been watching combat sports for a little more than a year will find plenty of examples of weight/height mismatches where the smaller guy wins and makes it look easy. Here we're looking at Buakaw who is also incredibly skilled. Honestly, much of what I saw on this video was simply Buakaw using skill to beat Saenchai, it never really seemed like Saenchai was outmuscled, but simply out skilled with the way Buakaw set stuff up.

    I don't know much about muay thai, but as far as I hear, Saenchai is considered far more decorated, fighting up in weight just to find competition, etc. Whereas Buakaw is a kickboxing legend and star from what he did in K-1, and perhaps more famous globally for the exposure that granted him.

    I see a lot of excuses being made here for saenchai. Buakaw’s constant pressure style doesn’t allow for all of that cute wizardry that saenchai uses. The truth is, Buakaw took it easy on him. Had Saenchai not been one of his close friends. He would have been KO’d, plain and simple.

    Great vid about their friendship.
    To me, it defeats the purpose of "finding out" who is "greater" at this level of Muay Thai.
    It's anaemic, immature and "shallow" to say either is 'better' than the other.
    These are both Muay Thai legends and they are also good friends. There's no way either will fight
    all out in any competition. To have them spar with one another for a good look at all aspects

    Saenchai is too kind and playful to hit as hard as Buakaw, nor is his body built as strong, but his wisdom and skills are top of the top. They can't bully each other when serious like they can just about any other person. Buakaw and Saenchai are so close in ability the main difference is how they are as people, you may have a favorite but both earned #1 so it's a matter of opinion

    • @deuceohnegative

      Saenchai is not kind, he is an entertainer. If he just went for the kill from the first bell, his fights would likely end sooner, which is bad for gambling. What gets me is that that thin veneer drops when someone gives him the slightest bit of cheek in return. If/when he is no longer the greatest in the world, that pettiness will hopefully disappear too. I really want to like him as a fighter but always find myself routing against him, only due to his temper and disrespect to everyone who is worse than him. He can play, you can't.
