- Let’s start with some great news. Despite setting new standards of luxury and technology for SUVs, Volvo hasn’t abandoned one of their core vehicles… the all-wheel-drive wagon. They’ve been a brand mainstay since 1996. Now with the arrival of the 2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country we can hear cheers from at least a few people out there. So, let’s find out if we should further spread the word.

Agreed... me too...I’m 45, and I’ve been watching motorweek for decades! Saturdays...channel 13 (pbs) around 10:30 i was all in!!!
We have watched his videos over the last 12 years when we finally were out of college and could afford to buy new cars . We always look for a motor week review first .

Almost... I weighed this very car with a 2019 Macan and bought the Macan after months of deliberation (for about $5k USD more than this V60 CC wagon). What killed the Volvo for me was the Sensus infotainment system and its horrible maps, no buttons for climate control, and a bunch of little things that added up (the fact that you can't disable the doors locking when the car starts to move; there are no paddle shifters; the finicky roller-button for drive-mode changes; and the poorly designed instrument gauge (which, among other things, doesn't even have an engine temperature read-out). I'd rather have a wagon generally because of good visibility and sedan-like driving, but the Macan checked the "handling like a car" box in spades, plus all of those issues above that are lacking in the Volvo, for only a few thousand more dollars -- plus I could order my Macan without a glass roof (a definitely plus in my book).

Not my point, Toyota sold their Corolla and Camry wagon in the US until 1996, they still sell them overseas. Cheap wagons simply do not sell.

I honestly think these newer Volvos are a near perfect modern evolution of the Volvos from the 70s/80s/90s. Comfortable, well built, understated but great styling, and incredible safety. If you ask me they got these cars right. I'd love a V90 XC or V60 XC but can't afford neither :(
That's why Volvo needs a v40 version. And I agree with you. These cars are every bit the evolution from earlier Volvos. I don't get how some people say they aren't real Volvos. Their Volvo heritage is clear.

Too much automation taking the fun out of driving 🤨 The P1800 was more what I like in sporty Estate Wagons. If I wanted off road capabilities, would get a mid-1980's ISUZU Trooper or TOYOTA Land Cruiser with a diesel (Pre-def) for reliability. 🤠
Sod off, Davey! Automation is going to be the way of driving and trains, subways, and light rail will make ground transportation obsolete.
It's missing one important thing. A 5cyl engine.

Just have to accept that Volvo will not have 5 cylinder engines anymore. For years Volvo didn't have them. They had 4 cylinder 140s and 240s and 6 cylinder 240s and 260s and people bought them. This 4 cylinder performs well if not sounding exactly like the big engines. So, it is what it is.
@@cbatiau2528 I personally think a V8 is overkill in this wagon and Volvo only used it on limited amount of 2nd generation s80s. I do want to preserve the environment and eventually go electric. So that's my POV. I see no reason for engines to be over 6 cylinders for smoothness. 4 to 6 smoothness is more noticeable than 6 to 8. And Volvo is a turbo company now.
all this tech on crash avoidance and lane mgt etc it amazing. i feel i can buy a modern car and then text, talk on the phone and snack to my hearts content while the vehicle keeps me safe. thanks technology!!
I have always wanted an XC70 but every time I get close to pulling the trigger (on a *USED* one) I veer away to Toyota because I’m not rich so reliability stays at the top of my “needs list.” Twice now, I shopped XC’s but ended up in a 4Runner, and now a Lexus GX470.
The GX has given me an unexpected reason to stay clear of cars, too. Now that seemingly every car has blindingly bright projector lens headlights, the GX is tall enough that it keeps my eyes up out of the laser beams in traffic better than a car can. I drove my parents car over the holidays and couldn’t believe what they have to put up with at night. No thanks.
i love wagons but the LACK OF BUTTONS and a wimp motor(4banger) is a frustrating dealbreaker that makes info screen USELESS

I agree, 5 cylinder 250 hp isn’t enough power for this weight of a vehicle... will be Overworked for sure. A V6 with at least 300 hp is a minimum

The wife and I have driven Volvo wagons for years, but we definitely won't buy this model. An under powered turbo 4 by today's standards
and not even an engine dipstick to check the oil level...........
I like the look of the front end, hate the look of the back end. I also have several issues with this vehicle: general unreliability, the fact that its now a partnered chinese brand, everything is rooted through the touchscreen almost guaranteeing a replacement is necessary in the 5 year range, digital dashboard that can and will malfunction in cold weather, digital heated seats(why!?), the pointless piece of glass in the roof that doesnt move or fold, the 8 speed transmission that it doesnt need(6 speed should be MAX), the multitude of buttons and sensors that are completely unnecessary to actually drive your vehicle(fuck that self driving garbage), the fact that it costs as much as a loaded nissan titan, NEW, and the fact that for some reason they sought to make a plug in electric version for a crowd that doesnt even exist. (Derp).
This station wagon could have been great. But volvo flushed all of its chances at staying with the wagon buyer crowd right down the toilet.
The owner is Chinese.... that's the only thing! Volvo is swedish... made in sweden.
I think that the front part of the glass roof does open; this is something I dislike -- I'd prefer no glass, but if there is glass, I don't want it opening (something more to break, and to leak). I totally agree about unreliability -- especially with regards to the computer screen and lack of buttons and analog gauges.
@@AVC-Works They aren't all made in Sweden. Some are, some are made in the USA, some are made in China, some are made in Belgium. Quality reports have the Chinese made Volvos to have the highest quality.
@@benjaminsmith2287 I know.., my point is that Volvo is owned bij de Chinese. Nothing more. Al brands have factories around the world. VW has factories all over the world. BMW has it... but a BMW is a true German car. So is Volvo a true Swedish car.. designed bij Sweden. Not the Chinese ;)
Pass, I stick with my 2005 Sienna that’s still runs flawlessly like new at 291K miles on its original engine, transmission, suspension, iced cold Dual AC system and electrical windows.
The Sienna can accommodate 8 adult passengers and tons of camping equipment and luggages. The Sienna got a very strong naturally aspirated V6 engine that is buttery smooth even under full throttle acceleration and still gets the same mileage with Volvo’s tiny 4-cylinder engine that harsh and thrash when rev to higher RPM range. We have just returned from a long trio of 1500 miles I drove the Sienna for all day without feeling fatigue because of excellent suspension and long 120 inches wheelbase give the vehicle a smooth ride without the choppy motions of a wagon or sedan. Additionally, it has very low road noise that is very annoying on long trips. Sienna is the only minivan offers AWD option. Dealer oil/filter change is only $30 each and brake job is around $250 making Toyota the lowest cost of maintenance compared to any brand out there.
Yeah that body style is the perfect power to weight ratio and super comfy we used them along with the newer body style siennas and i felt myself wanting to drive the older models more. You're indeed correct they are SUPER comfy

...and you can get it worked on without driving to a major metropolitan city!

I test drove one of those just before Christmas. Let us know how that 4 cylinder turbo holds up. I was concerned about it long term, so I'm keeping my 2008 XC-70 with the 3.2 inline 6. Cheers!
@@civlyzed GM has been doing aluminum block 2.0T since 2006. Not many problems with it and just a ecu tune can net near +100 lb-ft of torque. We had a Cadillac ATS with 2.0T AWD and 95,000 miles making almost 400 lb-ft of torque without problems.
@@normt5463 Thanks for the info, Norm. My wife thinks I need to get a new car and she wants my XC-70 as a daily driver. I know I'm old, but I'm just not a fan of the touch screens, etc. in the newer cars. I'm also not a fan of the wheels larger than 16", but I guess I'll have to get with the times! Cheers!
I would much rather have this over an SUV or cuv. Even the new outback which has gotten too tall and too awkward

I'm not sure what issues you are referencing, but my 2008 XC-70 has been very reliable. 185,000 miles and still runs like new.
I'm referring to Consumer Reports and Kelley Blue Book value dropping as a result of more and more maintenance being necessary I'm a retired mechanic

I'm a Subaru fan, five star safety rating, intelligent all-wheel drive, I've observed considerable longevity...
@@elilevine2410 Lots of car brands that were more reliable years ago have gone downhill in recent years -- Volvo and Subaru included. I've monitored Outback forums for a long time as a potential buyer, and I've been scared away from Subaru from that and from family & friends who've owned Subarus and changed to other brands because of problems. Volvos historically have been reliable, but these new 4-cylinder-ICE Volvos have been showing lots of problems in the last few years.
From the country that is known for high fuel prices ($6,50 a gallon) and high vehicle registration fee, (over $ 570 for the first 3 years as a Bonus-malus system for nerer vehicles with high emissions of carbon dioxide will be taxed at a higher rate for the first three years then $290 a year). In others words the Swedish version of the V60 is a hybrid!
There is a PHEV version of the V60 wagon, but not of the lifted V60 Cross Country wagon.
SUVs are all OK, if you have become too old to get in and out of a “Wagon”....
Well, not exactly "my daydream come true". Once the Google OS infotainment screen replaces the crappy Sensus screen in MY2021, we're a little closer. My real daydream would be this with a naturally aspirated V8 engine and paddle shifters, and no glass roof and buttons back for climate and audio controls, or a Porsche-like PHEV system with a 30-kWh battery pack -- but those are only dreams that'll never be reality. I actually like the external appearance, and the seats are great; but the rest of the interior looks ugly and is impractical to me (poor storage for cups, etc.; poor digital screens; lack of practical buttons; stupid-looking ignition switch, and badly designed drive-mode roller-button that should be on the steering wheel).
What's SAD IS: UNIFORMITY. there used 2 a time when cars had the signature grill but a nip or tuck here gave it its own identity. This is nothing but a shrunken V90/V90 CROSS COUNTRY
What's wrong with that? The V90 is gorgeous! So a smaller and more affordable V90(V60) is great!

no, but I'd love to see Volvo put their 2010 naturally aspirated V8 engine into this wagon, for sure... Too bad that they only put it in their S80 sedan and their XC90 SUV.

Yep, and even Volvo execs have acknowledged that in public -- which is why they are bringing out their new Google OS computer screen this coming year (MY2021) to replace Sensus. I feel sorry for those people who bought Sensus Volvos the last few years because they'll find that their cars are really dated in a couple years because of that -- and that Volvo won't be supporting Sensus in about 5 years at all.
Wagons are terrible. They’re only better than make up on a pig; cologne on a turd. Although this one’s exterior looks fine the interior is horrible. And that price?!? Are they serious? SMH
Mike Trapp Wagons offer more versatility than crossovers. Period. They can tow more, haul more, get better fuel mileage, and easily outmaneuver any crossover currently on the market.
That being said, this volvo is one to stay away from.

I can buy much better and more vehicle for 40 grands, moreover, Volvo is very expensive in maintenance and repair that my neighbor got rid all of their Volvo car and wagon. Consumers report rated Volvo vehicles reliability is worse than average.
