I'm fine with them having cell phones and tablets and other electronic devices. As long as they don't go too modern and say stuff like "that's lit" or "fleek," then I'm perfectly fine with them giving a more modern setting. I do agree that it will be better if they do it differently than what Pony Life did with having modern technology.

No it hasn't in My little pony G1 it was not really a thing on the pony side where as on the human side it was .. As for your point the difference and reason headphones and Disco balls are not a problem for many yet cellphones are because Cellphones are still extremely new in comparison to even early cellphone tech let alone more modern Cellphone tech like the one in this new set up seems to be largely based on fairly recent Cellphone tech
@@justinriley Also to add to my other message encase you somehow by now don't know G1 is the first mlp series from the 80's and also the main problem most have with way more modern tech in varies series is modern tech aswell as modern trends aswell as to a level fashion trends tend to get a series dated rather quickly in general as for example while My little pony G1 is still watchable today for the most part do to not really having tech or trends put in in general just very little bits ... the follow up series it had that was loaded with at the time current trends aswell as current fashion and at the time current tech is hard to watch now as it made it very dated ... Where as My little pony G4 (my little pony Friendship is magic) has tech and things in it that isn't that modern as what tech and trends in it has been around long enough that it doesn't really date the series
Honestly I always thought Equestria had phones at least, if not cell phones, except they kept them off-screen. In season 4 Applejack was somehow able to ask Rarity to come look after Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle without leaving her farm, and then in season 8 Discord used banana as cell phone and Trixie didn' bat an eye when she started talk through it with a phone company, apparently

People keep making the mistake of thinking it is "our normal smartphones" being used by ponies. This devices are not "copies" (merely "reverse engineered" from imported phones brought through the mirror), but TRUE INVENTIONS made by ponies FOR ponies. -> They use some "Gorilla Glass X" for the screens (made from the most resilient & crack resistant stuff "growing" in the Crystal Empire & Rock Farms); specially for the phones used by pegasi while they are flying around [likely to drop them by mistake]; something that was actually considered given the shape of the "hoof holder" on the backside.

I do like that little addition of a hoof slot on the back of Pipps phone, nice touch on the designers. And yeah, it sounds like it'll be the pony world we once knew, but more heavy-hooved on technology because the magic that many ponies once depended on, like Earth Pony's earth magic, Pegasai's weather control magic, and the magic that unicorns innately have, has faded out through who knows what means. I really am invested in the story and these characters now.

Given "Equestira has lost its magic" Makes sense they would invent technology to compensate. Now gonna lie though its does feel kinda wierd given we are used to Twilight and Celestia exchanging letters via teleport magic. Then again, remember that for some strange reason in FIM season 1 they had what was clearly a steam train pulled by horses (i think they realized how weird and counter intuitive that was) then Every other season its just a Steam train, no ponys pulling it. Also now that i think about it, what ever happened to the Pegasi pulling the chariots? They just kinda...vanished and got replaced with a hot air balloon and Celestia and Luna presumably just flying to Ponyville themselves.
There is an actual historical explanation for the "train pulled by horses" that MAKES SENSE in the context of that specific episode (the train going precisely to the most "extreme" part of civilized Equestria... their "Wild West" ): . Steam Powered trains need to repleanish both coal & water for its engine. . Most trains simply "hold" the coal as part of their cargo, but water MUST be provided from the exterior (already pumped up to some tank/reservoir somewhere above the position the locomotive at the recharging point). Because the general zone is a dry desert without any other population in the middle ( other than the destination: Appleooza ), they found out that there was no water stored in one of the "refueling points" (either evaporated because of the heat, leaked out into the ground, or even was taken by some wildlife/bandits); hence requiring actual "horse power" to complete the journey. On any other place of Equestria this would not be a problem (while there is no liquid water in the frozen tundra going to the Crystal Empire, they can simply shovel snow/ice & burn extra coal). With many other places having streams of water crossing the path of the train (so it can be manually moved over the locomotive either on buckets. with magic or some "pegasistance").
G4 had electricity for lights, appliances, decorations and toys as well as arcade video games in season 2. None of that bothered us. G5 having cellphones and social media might even be the plot for some humorous episodes or some quick funny moments. I say don't stress out too much, it's still very early.
In G4 we had scrolls transmitted via dragonfire/magic. That's a text message in magic form. A world that developed steeped in magic no doubt came up with hundreds of spells and enchantments to make daily life easier. When magic vanished, the memory of these magical spells/enchantments that made life easier was not lost, just the ability to make them work via magic. Thus technology was developed as a way to replace the things that were lost when magic vanished. I can absolutely see G5 starting out fully invested in the tech of the new world, but slowly exploring the magic of old. While I don't think they'll go the route of "technology = evil" I certainly think they'll explore some ways that technology has created problems that couldn't have existed without it (like cyber bullying). Part of me hopes that in the divided world, Sunny finds early and eager support from the Unicorns in her quest, but they have ulterior motives. A return of magic means they become more powerful and more important again where as Sunny has a more pure goal. I'm curious to see how much politics comes into play, since they are treading ground of modern issues.

That said, given the racial animosity between the three tribes present in G5, and the fact that technology can be wielded by all 3 tribes equally well, as opposed to magic which would favor the unicorns, there is plenty of reason for there to be modern weapons without humans being a thing. Even if there isn't active, open warfare, I could see cities of the three tribes stocking weapons and defenses as a deterrent. A cold war would be more likely.
So if phones exist.... Then the internet probably exist..... And if the internet exist then all rule 34 is confirmed Which also means gallus, twilight, thorax and rainbow might have an only pony page lol
Just because such things exist for them, doesn't mean everything from our world exists in their world. So I don't think ponies would think to do the same thing as us humans would do. Plus why would they need to have such a thing, they could just walk outside and seeing ponies walking by on the street naked anyway. It is only human to think and create the idea that ponies are capable of the same thing as us humans because that's the world we live in. Which is to why I'm sick that we as people can't think beyond of the things that are from our world but in a modern technology advancement in their only way within their world. So I don't think they will have R34 content on their internet in their world. Imo
Them using "smart" phones would be interesting, They could show the advantages and disadvantages of them. Advantage: They can be used to help with learning magic spells and other things which would take much longer before. Disadvantage: If they use their "smart" phones to "think" for them for too long and they get into a situation where their devices are worthless, they are stuck.
Well I also remember correctly back in season 1 then Twilight had like a secret laboratory in her basement and not only that there was arcade during the Hearts and Hooves Day in season 2 when Sweetie Belle was pointing at Button Mash and then there was a helicopter in season 4 and now there's like mechanical machines so that says a lot about there's Technologies there in Equestria but still I wasn't expecting a cell phone in there
Dr. Wolf said before that the space-time of FiM must be some sort of Industrial Revolution, with all that classic technology certain characters have. iPhones are much newer and we’re all just waiting for more specifics about G5.
This is exactly what i thought! I bet that they still have mail ponies, but when it comes to sending messages fast and longer distance and no magic, they would evolve technology. Off topic but, they Hasbro mentioned a jewel heist so perhaps Twilight and her friends sealed away the magic of equestria to keep it safe. Maybe even trapped themselves in there?

I feel like the more modern devices they show in G5 could offer up quite a bit of worldbuilding. FiM wasn't a stranger to more sophisticated technologies, we saw Vinyl Scratch with a very modern-looking DJ booth in a few episodes, Button Mash was spotted playing an old arcade game quite a few times, and Las Pegasus had quite a few modern innovations dotted throughout some scenes as well. So, we saw the seeds toward a more modern society in FiM but they never went the full way because they had magic to take care of most of what we in our society created in response to things in our world to make our lives easier, but with the loss of magic they would have a greater need to make similar developments as our modern world has in its history to make up for the increasing lack, and eventual loss, of magic. Chances are that unicorns, like Izzy, only have enough power in their horns to have similar limitations to that of human hands and strength comparable to those of someone's arms and/or hands and nothing more, but there's still the chance that unicorns have lost so much power the best they can do is make their horns glow and basically have to do things with their hooves like Pegasi and Earth Ponies, we won't know for sure without any official material showing just what sort of limits we can expect from each of the pony tribes. That all said, Pipp and Zipp both seem to be able to fly, so it looks like Pegasi haven't quite lost their ability to fly just yet, but chances are they still lost their ability to interact with clouds as if they were a physical medium, assuming that world of G5 really has lost almost all its magic. I have the sneaking suspicion magic wasn't completely lost, just weakened well beyond the point it was no longer a viable option for the denizens of the world of G5.

According to TV Tropes on their "Medieval Stasis" page, societies reliant on magic tend to make less technological advancements than societies without magic. This could already be seen in G4 when you compare unicorn cities like Canterlot or Starlight's hometown to the more modern looking Manehatten or Las Pegasus. (Cloudesdale seems to be a mixture of traditional and modern). Also, playing Final Fantasy games, especially VII and VIII, made me quite used to seeing things like cell phones and cars alongside swords, magic, and dragons.

I'm kinda excited to see how they are going to explain the sudden modern usage of technology in G5. Like who was the first pony that invented it? Does the internet exist? Do they use social media? (Imagine them having an actual account on Twitter or something like that xD) The possibilities are limitless. And I'm really appreciating the idea coming from MLP team to actually take the risk and show us a completely new look of the franchise which we have grown to love so much. Keep in mind we could've gotten another G4, but just with different animation and artstyle. But instead, they want to deliver something new, fresh. Imo, that shows how they care about the franchise and people working behind it are not some randoms paid to make a 'good horses movie', but people who genuinely care about what's going to happen with the franchise.
When you say MLP team are you talking about the same team that made G4? If that is the case they are not making G5 in fact no one from the G4 team is working on G5 is a whole new team and they are only making G5 connect to G4 is because the G5 team loved the G4 lore so much that they wanted to continue it into G5.
@@ROBJAMBRE I was actually talking about how they could simply copy and paste the previous generation and call it a day. Yet, they decided to provide us something new. And yes, I'm aware of the new team. A lot of freelance jobs were put on the website, thus I had a little insight into the current progress of the movie. But, when it comes to writers, I practically know as much as people from the fandom do. I also had some hope to see at least a few familiar names of the writers from the previous generation, but it seems we will have to put our faith into new ones. Hopefully, they know what they are doing.
@@tierwidy Look at the Witcher show. In the Books and games certain characters were "light skinned" or at least eastern European. In the Netflix series they changed certain characters' tones and profiles and ignored legit criticism. in the Books and games Fringilla Vigo is white, but in the show she's black? THe showrunner claims their holding to the lore or consistency when their really NOT doing that. Just because its "new" doesn't mean its automatically GOOD. The Season 9 Finale pissed me off because they shafted Starlight getting the spotlight for once and ruined the fight between her and Chrysalis. Instead we got the MLP Avengers: Endgame. And I'm not the only that feels this way.
The new designs make me uncomfortable until now to be honest, but I'll still watch the movie. G4 was just too timeless and unique for what it was, personally.

That I've seen people literally abandon the MLP series over a phone is a combination of sad and disgusting. I can't express how tired I am of watching certain fans throw their temper tantrums and jump ship over something so small, and it gets even worse since we still know only a fraction of what Gen 5 is all about. We don't know the characters except for basic descriptions. We don't know how the story is going to be handled or if it'll be slice-of-life like Gen 4. Comparatively speaking, we don't know anything, and so-called "fans" are already judging it as pure garbage worth leaving the series over. Mind you, people were already acting like this *before* the cell phone. Yet another example to add to my pile I guess. Also, hot take, but I think cell phones did exist in Equestria, just in more modern cities like Manehattan since Ponyville is the main town and not very advanced comparetively. Hey, Discord used them. Sure, you can argue he's a pile of references, but in order to reference something you need to; ya know, have a reference.
An understandable frustration. It seems to be common nowadays to see others become even quicker to judge things without actually seeing the subject in action. Sorta reminds me of Twilight's ascension in the season 3 finale which was the last rift that I recall causing a big uproar. Twilight's memorable house being blown up and replaced by the most gaudy castle ever to advertise their toy line was a big sting as well.
My theory is MLP Generation 4 happened like it was all real and it's just history Pony life is a show with in generation 5 they're just using real characters from history
If you take you line of thinking further and reason that Sunny is such a big fan of magic and is the main character, maybe she'll get a horn like Twilight got wings!
It depends on how the integrate it. If it's a case of let's post this on Pony Reddit(Peddit? Hoofdit?), then it could greatly break the immersion, how ever if they use it as either a luxury item that only the wealthy has or as an item for the characters to quickly message each other, it might work.
I honestly want to see a episode where there is a scene where the main cast is in a fast food place and there is a rather large dragon wearing a tiny silly hat while he/she is working behind the counter and trying to be careful not to crush the machine the dragon is using to put in the orders.
While somethings were industrial revolution level or earlier, G4 also had arcade games, DJ equipment, landline telephones (never seen used, but appearing in background), a hydroelectric dam and cinemas. Smart phones don't seem like a stretch for a show set at least a few decades later.
All those things you bring up headphones was from 1910.. Telephone lines was a thing in about 1877.. Turntables the more modern DJ sort was a think in 1955 arcade games was from 1973 atleast .. Cinama was a thing in 1932 and hydroelectric dams was a thing in 1882.. so ya All those things actually aren't a problem.. what is.. is when too much modern stuff is put in a long standing ip at once (sometimes even a new ip) Which is why many people have a problem with it as 9 times out of 10 the Quality of such a thing is bad or its done in a way that ages/dates the product badly
The blending of fantasy and modern themes is something that absolutely has been done successfully, even blending fantasy with outright science fiction. (The worlds of Harry Potter and Shadowrun come to mind in particular off the top of my head)
I am looking forward to seeing them use phones in Generation 5, it could be interesting. Also, fun fact, Imalou, the fan artist who worked on the movie said on twitter, that she helped design the phone.
I had a dream tonight that the phone and the new design was not sitting well with everyone and the new series was cancelled i hope that doesn't happen cause im looking forward to it. Also i have a question i watched Generation 1 and the question is if its a show that little girls are supposed to be watching why is it so scary seriously im pretty sure most kids would be traumatized by some of the designs they put in it. That is also why Quest for camelot and Fern gully the last rain forest aren't things young kids should ever watch its too scary not to mention darker than a kids movie should be. Cgi is nicer looking because the computer can actually make things less elaborate than we can do with our brain and hand also something without a body or form of any kind is also scarier than something with a body because you can't really tell what it actually is.

Come to think of it, if you pay close enough attention to the background of some MLP G4 episodes, there have been telephones placed in certain areas, not counting Discord’s banana phone in the Season 8 episode “A Matter of Principals”. I forget exactly where I got this from, but somebody on either Facebook or Twitter first mentioned it and shared screenshots of certain episodes displaying them. I’ll see if I can retrace my steps and look around for them.

1:45 True. I always like playing around their anatomy, it's the most fun part of pony RP's. For example I do think ponies can eat grass but grass is extremely poor in nutrition. Meaning they need to eat for about 9 hours to get their fill which is a huge waste of time. For weapons I have them often wield Tampa style swords they can spin around.
Using modern technology is just lazy. Using everyday objects excuses writers not needing to think about creating fantasy setting that would fit pony society
I feel like since Pipp is shown with the phone, that she may be like some people that most know are fixated on phones and social media, the others less so, and there might be a bit where she has to choose between her phone and her friends, and I think that’d be super neat!
You know now all I'm thinking about is a few scenes in g4 where in Manhattan there were ponies using headsets with those stretch down microphones and even one pony working at a desk with a mouse and computer
And yet both computers and headphones have been around a very long time .. so its different when viewing Cellphones that haven't been around that long even more so ones heavily based on Modern Cellphones

Nah, youre not alone. I mean, modern day cell phones are basically magic mirrors. In season 3 of Tangled the series, it was revealed that Mother Gotherl basically "recorded" all of her entire life with magic mirror. Whenever a character touched the surface it replayed a memory. Touchrd screens, anyone?

Having tech more in G5 is fine so long as Magic comes back i don't think it's an MLP thing with out it i just hope they don't rub the inclusion diversity thing in our faces i hope it's nice and well done. Respect Dr Wolf and keep up the epic work.

I managed to find this in my recommended, and this just caught my eyes and I found this interesting. I've been pretty much gone from the mlp Fandom for probably around a year now. The most I've been into mlp is the mobile game I had on my tablet, but that tablet broke and I don't have the motivation to try and get back up to where I was. Mlp used to be my life, I remember watching it on Netflix all the time.
Im fine with it as this probably takes place in a more modern and tech based Equestria. Its like u said overtime the Magical Elements will slowly come back into Equestria. I do have a main fear though and thats if the show Goes WOKE. Im hoping Zipps not lesbian based on her hairstyle. And that they dont force Gender or Modern day Politics into a Kids show aimed for younger audiences and younger teens. From what I understand some of the MLP G4 Writers are returning to work on this one so Im hoping its good.

I like your optimism, sir! I'm still convinced there will be magic from the start of G5. I think the first line of the synopsis is connected to the next line about paranoia and mistrust. I think the world of Equestria has lost the Magic of Friendship, specifically. I imagine there will still be unicorn magic and fantastical creatures. We know that Pegasi use magic to fly, for example (see Tirek draining them of magic in Season 4). But the Pegasi are still flying in G5. I hope this because I would love to see a fantasy world with modern technology. There's no rule that fantasy has to be set in a world with primitive technology. It works just fine with modernistic or even futuristic technology, like RWBY or Star Wars. I'd love to see MLP go down a similar route.
I also wonder what the guard will use as weapons for defense? If having technology advanced as a cellphone, it makes sense if they have developed something similar to a firearm that non-unicorns can wield. As I find hard to believe that they would be protecting a figure of power with swords and shields.
I am definitely not a fan of modern technology like phones and the internet existing in G5. It seems that the magical, mystical world of Equestria will just be replaced by a dull uninspired reflection of our own world. Part of what made the world of Equestria so great was its uniqueness along with the separation between it and the real world. Modern tech would defiantly break this emersion and take the fun aspect away from the world that once was so interesting. G4 did have some technology here and there of course, but the kind of technology was never too distracting and it didn't take away from the story. That's why I'm not against certain kind of tech being in Equestria. But when you have things like cellphones, the internet and social media it can take away from the stories and even ruin characters. Instead of ponies going out and talking with others and experiencing life in its fullest, they will be glued to their phones. Problems that would require friendship, magic, and problem-solving will now be able to be easily done via technology. Entire stories and characters will revolve around phones creating a bland world filled with bland characters. Having this kind of technology could overall be devastating to the world of My Little Pony, and I'm sad to see that this may just be the case.
I'm not surprised that cell phones exists in their universe, I mean, we have Manehattan and DJ Pon-3 with their technological stuff. But, I do hope it's just something in their universe and not a big thing, because tbh the "trope" of "OMG this thing happened! Gotta post about it" is really annoying
One of the biggest factors that made me like mlp g4 was the mythology setting and later on their own way of technology. This! This ain't it chief.... i can already hear the high school drama in the distance and oh please god let me be wrong :(
G4 always had modern devices. We just followed the lives of ponies that lived in a back water mud pony village so we hardly ever saw any of them. They had cities with buildings that had LCD screens on the side for display that looked like Times Square. They even have Bioshock-esq air ships.
The Pony Times Headlines "Cell phones causing pollution to the environment" alternative communication devices sought after magic might be an alternative. Kind of makes for a lame story, I hope the focus isn't so much the tech as much as it is about the world and the characters growing in it, after all a lot of us are tired of hearing all the crap in today's media why would we want to hear it in a show? Maybe good ,maybe bad, who knows, just depends on how they pull it off. G5 is still looking promising.
I can't wait to see this show. With the state of the world a show teaching about bringing others together despite being different is something we need to teach.
Well, while Pony Life has had most of the focus on the smart devices and social medias, there are occasions where they bring it to the front to then show that it isn't everything. Like the obsession of having TH-cam fame but someone sensible reminds them that the real happiness is spending time with your friends without having to make a tweet about it. Maybe this might be sort of the same thing. The first introduction of the smartphone will be kinda in our faces, but our "heroes of friendship" will be dragging everypony out of their online life to get them to meet their online friends face to face (who happen to live just two blocks away). And that seems to sound a little like WALL-E.
It’s interesting to note that so far we have gotten five characters for the new Mlp generation- Sunny and Hitch the earth ponies, Izzy the unicorn and Pipp Petals and Zip the pegasi. Is it possible that those five correspond to the mane 6? We have two earth ponies, two pegasi, and one unicorn. Although, different from the mane 6, we’re missing the second unicorn- which probably represents Twilight. It’s strange that the mane character this time around is an earth pony.. perhaps the plot of the G5 movie is the five main characters trying to find the elements of harmony? Thought sunny wouldn’t necessarily fit into the role of the element of magic so perhaps there’s a 6th character not yet reveled... this is just my own theory tho :)
My little pony is a show that help us with with the problems we usually have in real life, like the bullying and that stuff, if g5 wants to put cellphones and social media in the series is completely fine since most of the problems that we currently have are here because of that, and now MlP wants to teach us about it in some way, I say it’s fine. I think that cell phones actually have potential in G5, because the races are so divided, one thing that may connect everyone may be social media. The characters could influence far more ponies about the benefits of magic if they can reach a larger group of ponies perhaps on the opposite ends of equestria.
As long as it doesn't focus too much on cell phones, I don't really mind. Just using them as needed. Or maybe using that kind of social media usage as ways to show safety on media for kids, and showing how harmful things can be when spread online, considering how a lot of younger kids nowadays have cell phones and use them more often than they did when I was a kid.
My prediction is that the movie will be about Sunny and her friends bringing back magic to Equestria while the show's arc will be about trying to have it coexist with technology since the sudden return of magic has caused conflict
well, considering MLP G4 had technology like Arcades, Stereo systems, casinos and a helicopter in one episode, is a cellphone really that big a deal to gripe about? I don't see it as a big deal, honestly. I did before until I was reminded about what I mentioned before.

I'm fine with them having cell phones and tablets and other electronic devices. As long as they don't go too modern and say stuff like "that's lit" or "fleek," then I'm perfectly fine with them giving a more modern setting. I do agree that it will be better if they do it differently than what Pony Life did with having modern technology.

Where as My little pony G4 (my little pony Friendship is magic) has tech and things in it that isn't that modern as what tech and trends in it has been around long enough that it doesn't really date the series
Honestly I always thought Equestria had phones at least, if not cell phones, except they kept them off-screen. In season 4 Applejack was somehow able to ask Rarity to come look after Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle without leaving her farm, and then in season 8 Discord used banana as cell phone and Trixie didn' bat an eye when she started talk through it with a phone company, apparently
We do see a rotary dial phone in at least one episodes of FIM. It's not used in the episode, just in the background of a scene.

People keep making the mistake of thinking it is "our normal smartphones" being used by ponies. This devices are not "copies" (merely "reverse engineered" from imported phones brought through the mirror), but TRUE INVENTIONS made by ponies FOR ponies.
-> They use some "Gorilla Glass X" for the screens (made from the most resilient & crack resistant stuff "growing" in the Crystal Empire & Rock Farms); specially for the phones used by pegasi while they are flying around [likely to drop them by mistake]; something that was actually considered given the shape of the "hoof holder" on the backside.

I do like that little addition of a hoof slot on the back of Pipps phone, nice touch on the designers. And yeah, it sounds like it'll be the pony world we once knew, but more heavy-hooved on technology because the magic that many ponies once depended on, like Earth Pony's earth magic, Pegasai's weather control magic, and the magic that unicorns innately have, has faded out through who knows what means. I really am invested in the story and these characters now.

We already have the infamous Equestria Girls holiday comic.
Given "Equestira has lost its magic" Makes sense they would invent technology to compensate. Now gonna lie though its does feel kinda wierd given we are used to Twilight and Celestia exchanging letters via teleport magic. Then again, remember that for some strange reason in FIM season 1 they had what was clearly a steam train pulled by horses (i think they realized how weird and counter intuitive that was) then Every other season its just a Steam train, no ponys pulling it. Also now that i think about it, what ever happened to the Pegasi pulling the chariots? They just kinda...vanished and got replaced with a hot air balloon and Celestia and Luna presumably just flying to Ponyville themselves.
There is an actual historical explanation for the "train pulled by horses" that MAKES SENSE in the context of that specific episode (the train going precisely to the most "extreme" part of civilized Equestria... their "Wild West" ):
. Steam Powered trains need to repleanish both coal & water for its engine.
. Most trains simply "hold" the coal as part of their cargo, but water MUST be provided from the exterior (already pumped up to some tank/reservoir somewhere above the position the locomotive at the recharging point).
Because the general zone is a dry desert without any other population in the middle ( other than the destination: Appleooza ), they found out that there was no water stored in one of the "refueling points" (either evaporated because of the heat, leaked out into the ground, or even was taken by some wildlife/bandits); hence requiring actual "horse power" to complete the journey.
On any other place of Equestria this would not be a problem (while there is no liquid water in the frozen tundra going to the Crystal Empire, they can simply shovel snow/ice & burn extra coal). With many other places having streams of water crossing the path of the train (so it can be manually moved over the locomotive either on buckets. with magic or some "pegasistance").
The staff increased the use of the Balloon per a request from Hasbro to promote the toy. I have a feeling the same applied to the train.

G4 had electricity for lights, appliances, decorations and toys as well as arcade video games in season 2. None of that bothered us. G5 having cellphones and social media might even be the plot for some humorous episodes or some quick funny moments. I say don't stress out too much, it's still very early.

In G4 we had scrolls transmitted via dragonfire/magic. That's a text message in magic form. A world that developed steeped in magic no doubt came up with hundreds of spells and enchantments to make daily life easier. When magic vanished, the memory of these magical spells/enchantments that made life easier was not lost, just the ability to make them work via magic. Thus technology was developed as a way to replace the things that were lost when magic vanished.
I can absolutely see G5 starting out fully invested in the tech of the new world, but slowly exploring the magic of old. While I don't think they'll go the route of "technology = evil" I certainly think they'll explore some ways that technology has created problems that couldn't have existed without it (like cyber bullying).
Part of me hopes that in the divided world, Sunny finds early and eager support from the Unicorns in her quest, but they have ulterior motives. A return of magic means they become more powerful and more important again where as Sunny has a more pure goal. I'm curious to see how much politics comes into play, since they are treading ground of modern issues.

That said, given the racial animosity between the three tribes present in G5, and the fact that technology can be wielded by all 3 tribes equally well, as opposed to magic which would favor the unicorns, there is plenty of reason for there to be modern weapons without humans being a thing. Even if there isn't active, open warfare, I could see cities of the three tribes stocking weapons and defenses as a deterrent. A cold war would be more likely.

Just because such things exist for them, doesn't mean everything from our world exists in their world. So I don't think ponies would think to do the same thing as us humans would do. Plus why would they need to have such a thing, they could just walk outside and seeing ponies walking by on the street naked anyway.
It is only human to think and create the idea that ponies are capable of the same thing as us humans because that's the world we live in.
Which is to why I'm sick that we as people can't think beyond of the things that are from our world but in a modern technology advancement in their only way within their world.

Them using "smart" phones would be interesting, They could show the advantages and disadvantages of them.
Advantage: They can be used to help with learning magic spells and other things which would take much longer before.
Disadvantage: If they use their "smart" phones to "think" for them for too long and they get into a situation where their devices are worthless, they are stuck.
If G5's Equestria has cellphones and possibly internet, then i wouldn't be surprised if it'll probably have television and radio as well.

Well I also remember correctly back in season 1 then Twilight had like a secret laboratory in her basement and not only that there was arcade during the Hearts and Hooves Day in season 2 when Sweetie Belle was pointing at Button Mash and then there was a helicopter in season 4 and now there's like mechanical machines so that says a lot about there's Technologies there in Equestria but still I wasn't expecting a cell phone in there
Dr. Wolf said before that the space-time of FiM must be some sort of Industrial Revolution, with all that classic technology certain characters have.
iPhones are much newer and we’re all just waiting for more specifics about G5.
You have a point about the arcade but that was just a one time thing. The laberatory is fantasy enough that I can give it a pass.
Remember, in gen 5 magic stopped existing, no magic scrolls, so they probably improvised with text messages.

Dr. I'm surprised no one has said anything about the fact thet we haven't heard them talk yet. I'm not to worried about the phone side of it as much as I'm fixed on just how adorable they all are 😊.
I like the fact that they use tech. You nailed it right on the head. Re-introducing magic will be very interesting along with tech.
I feel like the more modern devices they show in G5 could offer up quite a bit of worldbuilding. FiM wasn't a stranger to more sophisticated technologies, we saw Vinyl Scratch with a very modern-looking DJ booth in a few episodes, Button Mash was spotted playing an old arcade game quite a few times, and Las Pegasus had quite a few modern innovations dotted throughout some scenes as well. So, we saw the seeds toward a more modern society in FiM but they never went the full way because they had magic to take care of most of what we in our society created in response to things in our world to make our lives easier, but with the loss of magic they would have a greater need to make similar developments as our modern world has in its history to make up for the increasing lack, and eventual loss, of magic. Chances are that unicorns, like Izzy, only have enough power in their horns to have similar limitations to that of human hands and strength comparable to those of someone's arms and/or hands and nothing more, but there's still the chance that unicorns have lost so much power the best they can do is make their horns glow and basically have to do things with their hooves like Pegasi and Earth Ponies, we won't know for sure without any official material showing just what sort of limits we can expect from each of the pony tribes.
That all said, Pipp and Zipp both seem to be able to fly, so it looks like Pegasi haven't quite lost their ability to fly just yet, but chances are they still lost their ability to interact with clouds as if they were a physical medium, assuming that world of G5 really has lost almost all its magic. I have the sneaking suspicion magic wasn't completely lost, just weakened well beyond the point it was no longer a viable option for the denizens of the world of G5.
It's kinda like the concept shown in the Pixar film Onward or perhaps the anime Boruto.

According to TV Tropes on their "Medieval Stasis" page, societies reliant on magic tend to make less technological advancements than societies without magic. This could already be seen in G4 when you compare unicorn cities like Canterlot or Starlight's hometown to the more modern looking Manehatten or Las Pegasus. (Cloudesdale seems to be a mixture of traditional and modern).
Also, playing Final Fantasy games, especially VII and VIII, made me quite used to seeing things like cell phones and cars alongside swords, magic, and dragons.

I'm kinda excited to see how they are going to explain the sudden modern usage of technology in G5. Like who was the first pony that invented it? Does the internet exist? Do they use social media? (Imagine them having an actual account on Twitter or something like that xD) The possibilities are limitless. And I'm really appreciating the idea coming from MLP team to actually take the risk and show us a completely new look of the franchise which we have grown to love so much. Keep in mind we could've gotten another G4, but just with different animation and artstyle. But instead, they want to deliver something new, fresh. Imo, that shows how they care about the franchise and people working behind it are not some randoms paid to make a 'good horses movie', but people who genuinely care about what's going to happen with the franchise.
When you say MLP team are you talking about the same team that made G4?
If that is the case they are not making G5 in fact no one from the G4 team is working on G5 is a whole new team and they are only making G5 connect to G4 is because the G5 team loved the G4 lore so much that they wanted to continue it into G5.

And yes, I'm aware of the new team. A lot of freelance jobs were put on the website, thus I had a little insight into the current progress of the movie. But, when it comes to writers, I practically know as much as people from the fandom do.
I also had some hope to see at least a few familiar names of the writers from the previous generation, but it seems we will have to put our faith into new ones. Hopefully, they know what they are doing.

In the Netflix series they changed certain characters' tones and profiles and ignored legit criticism. in the Books and games Fringilla Vigo is white, but in the show she's black? THe showrunner claims their holding to the lore or consistency when their really NOT doing that. Just because its "new" doesn't mean its automatically GOOD. The Season 9 Finale pissed me off because they shafted Starlight getting the spotlight for once and ruined the fight between her and Chrysalis. Instead we got the MLP Avengers: Endgame. And I'm not the only that feels this way.
I think this going to be MLP meets Pixar’s Onward, But this movie is going to be way more entertaining than that film.

That I've seen people literally abandon the MLP series over a phone is a combination of sad and disgusting. I can't express how tired I am of watching certain fans throw their temper tantrums and jump ship over something so small, and it gets even worse since we still know only a fraction of what Gen 5 is all about. We don't know the characters except for basic descriptions. We don't know how the story is going to be handled or if it'll be slice-of-life like Gen 4. Comparatively speaking, we don't know anything, and so-called "fans" are already judging it as pure garbage worth leaving the series over. Mind you, people were already acting like this *before* the cell phone. Yet another example to add to my pile I guess.
Also, hot take, but I think cell phones did exist in Equestria, just in more modern cities like Manehattan since Ponyville is the main town and not very advanced comparetively. Hey, Discord used them. Sure, you can argue he's a pile of references, but in order to reference something you need to; ya know, have a reference.
An understandable frustration. It seems to be common nowadays to see others become even quicker to judge things without actually seeing the subject in action.
Sorta reminds me of Twilight's ascension in the season 3 finale which was the last rift that I recall causing a big uproar. Twilight's memorable house being blown up and replaced by the most gaudy castle ever to advertise their toy line was a big sting as well.
My theory is MLP Generation 4 happened like it was all real and it's just history Pony life is a show with in generation 5 they're just using real characters from history

It depends on how the integrate it. If it's a case of let's post this on Pony Reddit(Peddit? Hoofdit?), then it could greatly break the immersion, how ever if they use it as either a luxury item that only the wealthy has or as an item for the characters to quickly message each other, it might work.
I honestly want to see a episode where there is a scene where the main cast is in a fast food place and there is a rather large dragon wearing a tiny silly hat while he/she is working behind the counter and trying to be careful not to crush the machine the dragon is using to put in the orders.
While somethings were industrial revolution level or earlier, G4 also had arcade games, DJ equipment, landline telephones (never seen used, but appearing in background), a hydroelectric dam and cinemas.
Smart phones don't seem like a stretch for a show set at least a few decades later.
All those things you bring up headphones was from 1910.. Telephone lines was a thing in about 1877.. Turntables the more modern DJ sort was a think in 1955 arcade games was from 1973 atleast .. Cinama was a thing in 1932 and hydroelectric dams was a thing in 1882.. so ya All those things actually aren't a problem.. what is.. is when too much modern stuff is put in a long standing ip at once (sometimes even a new ip) Which is why many people have a problem with it as 9 times out of 10 the Quality of such a thing is bad or its done in a way that ages/dates the product badly
At first I was concerned but now I think adding them could be quite interesting to the plot and maybe helpful if done well
The blending of fantasy and modern themes is something that absolutely has been done successfully, even blending fantasy with outright science fiction. (The worlds of Harry Potter and Shadowrun come to mind in particular off the top of my head)
I am looking forward to seeing them use phones in Generation 5, it could be interesting. Also, fun fact, Imalou, the fan artist who worked on the movie said on twitter, that she helped design the phone.

I had a dream tonight that the phone and the new design was not sitting well with everyone and the new series was cancelled i hope that doesn't happen cause im looking forward to it. Also i have a question i watched Generation 1 and the question is if its a show that little girls are supposed to be watching why is it so scary seriously im pretty sure most kids would be traumatized by some of the designs they put in it. That is also why Quest for camelot and Fern gully the last rain forest aren't things young kids should ever watch its too scary not to mention darker than a kids movie should be. Cgi is nicer looking because the computer can actually make things less elaborate than we can do with our brain and hand also something without a body or form of any kind is also scarier than something with a body because you can't really tell what it actually is.

Come to think of it, if you pay close enough attention to the background of some MLP G4 episodes, there have been telephones placed in certain areas, not counting Discord’s banana phone in the Season 8 episode “A Matter of Principals”.
I forget exactly where I got this from, but somebody on either Facebook or Twitter first mentioned it and shared screenshots of certain episodes displaying them. I’ll see if I can retrace my steps and look around for them.
Having read the synopsis and now seeing that there's going to be cellphones makes me a little bit worried, but i am still excited nonetheless. The characters and animations look great.

I always like playing around their anatomy, it's the most fun part of pony RP's. For example I do think ponies can eat grass but grass is extremely poor in nutrition. Meaning they need to eat for about 9 hours to get their fill which is a huge waste of time. For weapons I have them often wield Tampa style swords they can spin around.

Using modern technology is just lazy. Using everyday objects excuses writers not needing to think about creating fantasy setting that would fit pony society

I feel like since Pipp is shown with the phone, that she may be like some people that most know are fixated on phones and social media, the others less so, and there might be a bit where she has to choose between her phone and her friends, and I think that’d be super neat!

And yet both computers and headphones have been around a very long time .. so its different when viewing Cellphones that haven't been around that long even more so ones heavily based on Modern Cellphones

Nah, youre not alone. I mean, modern day cell phones are basically magic mirrors. In season 3 of Tangled the series, it was revealed that Mother Gotherl basically "recorded" all of her entire life with magic mirror. Whenever a character touched the surface it replayed a memory. Touchrd screens, anyone?
@@maggiesheartlove2734 In TTS though, I had thought the mirror was more of a fantasy thing. Since Tangled is more or less a fantasy movie/tv show. I just kinda left it at that. But I guess it could be thought of as a touch screen.
Having tech more in G5 is fine so long as Magic comes back i don't think it's an MLP thing with out it i just hope they don't rub the inclusion diversity thing in our faces i hope it's nice and well done.

I managed to find this in my recommended, and this just caught my eyes and I found this interesting. I've been pretty much gone from the mlp Fandom for probably around a year now. The most I've been into mlp is the mobile game I had on my tablet, but that tablet broke and I don't have the motivation to try and get back up to where I was. Mlp used to be my life, I remember watching it on Netflix all the time.
Well looks like Sunny Hitch and Izzy aren’t the only main characters yay 😀

Im fine with it as this probably takes place in a more modern and tech based Equestria. Its like u said overtime the Magical Elements will slowly come back into Equestria. I do have a main fear though and thats if the show Goes WOKE. Im hoping Zipps not lesbian based on her hairstyle. And that they dont force Gender or Modern day Politics into a Kids show aimed for younger audiences and younger teens. From what I understand some of the MLP G4 Writers are returning to work on this one so Im hoping its good.
I hope you're not forgetting there were LGBT characters in G4
@@coitag I think what the comment thread maker means is how when homosexuals male or female are a focus in media anymore rather then making the lesbian be treated like everyone else and not make it seem like being homosexual is way better then being Strait .. aswell as not using the homosexual matter as a selling point .. where as modern media actually makes homosexuals male or female when as the focus seem better then those who are strait.. Makes them be treated as if they are better then everyone else .. aswell as use them as a major selling point even if the being is only there for afew minutes or not seen much

I'm still convinced there will be magic from the start of G5. I think the first line of the synopsis is connected to the next line about paranoia and mistrust. I think the world of Equestria has lost the Magic of Friendship, specifically. I imagine there will still be unicorn magic and fantastical creatures. We know that Pegasi use magic to fly, for example (see Tirek draining them of magic in Season 4). But the Pegasi are still flying in G5.
I hope this because I would love to see a fantasy world with modern technology. There's no rule that fantasy has to be set in a world with primitive technology. It works just fine with modernistic or even futuristic technology, like RWBY or Star Wars. I'd love to see MLP go down a similar route.
Why can Hasbro just do 5G on Equestria girls with 3D better than ever
I also wonder what the guard will use as weapons for defense? If having technology advanced as a cellphone, it makes sense if they have developed something similar to a firearm that non-unicorns can wield. As I find hard to believe that they would be protecting a figure of power with swords and shields.

I kinda like that they added cell phones. It shows that this show is modern and not old fashioned.
I am definitely not a fan of modern technology like phones and the internet existing in G5. It seems that the magical, mystical world of Equestria will just be replaced by a dull uninspired reflection of our own world. Part of what made the world of Equestria so great was its uniqueness along with the separation between it and the real world. Modern tech would defiantly break this emersion and take the fun aspect away from the world that once was so interesting.
G4 did have some technology here and there of course, but the kind of technology was never too distracting and it didn't take away from the story. That's why I'm not against certain kind of tech being in Equestria. But when you have things like cellphones, the internet and social media it can take away from the stories and even ruin characters. Instead of ponies going out and talking with others and experiencing life in its fullest, they will be glued to their phones. Problems that would require friendship, magic, and problem-solving will now be able to be easily done via technology. Entire stories and characters will revolve around phones creating a bland world filled with bland characters. Having this kind of technology could overall be devastating to the world of My Little Pony, and I'm sad to see that this may just be the case.
I'm not surprised that cell phones exists in their universe, I mean, we have Manehattan and DJ Pon-3 with their technological stuff.
But, I do hope it's just something in their universe and not a big thing, because tbh the "trope" of "OMG this thing happened! Gotta post about it" is really annoying

One of the biggest factors that made me like mlp g4 was the mythology setting and later on their own way of technology. This! This ain't it chief.... i can already hear the high school drama in the distance and oh please god let me be wrong :(
Well, at least for the first movie you may be wrong, since it sounds kinda more like an adventure/road trip movie. The series meanwhile...
G4 always had modern devices. We just followed the lives of ponies that lived in a back water mud pony village so we hardly ever saw any of them. They had cities with buildings that had LCD screens on the side for display that looked like Times Square. They even have Bioshock-esq air ships.
The Pony Times Headlines "Cell phones causing pollution to the environment" alternative communication devices sought after magic might be an alternative. Kind of makes for a lame story, I hope the focus isn't so much the tech as much as it is about the world and the characters growing in it, after all a lot of us are tired of hearing all the crap in today's media why would we want to hear it in a show? Maybe good ,maybe bad, who knows, just depends on how they pull it off. G5 is still looking promising.
Maybe Twilight talked about this stuff from her time at Chanterlot High.

Let's remember the original G2 ponies were about that timeline of the 90s and their technology
Well, while Pony Life has had most of the focus on the smart devices and social medias, there are occasions where they bring it to the front to then show that it isn't everything. Like the obsession of having TH-cam fame but someone sensible reminds them that the real happiness is spending time with your friends without having to make a tweet about it.
Maybe this might be sort of the same thing. The first introduction of the smartphone will be kinda in our faces, but our "heroes of friendship" will be dragging everypony out of their online life to get them to meet their online friends face to face (who happen to live just two blocks away). And that seems to sound a little like WALL-E.
Given that we've already seen the ponies with electronics, throughout G4, I'm not all that surprised that they might have smartphones
It’s interesting to note that so far we have gotten five characters for the new Mlp generation- Sunny and Hitch the earth ponies, Izzy the unicorn and Pipp Petals and Zip the pegasi. Is it possible that those five correspond to the mane 6? We have two earth ponies, two pegasi, and one unicorn. Although, different from the mane 6, we’re missing the second unicorn- which probably represents Twilight. It’s strange that the mane character this time around is an earth pony.. perhaps the plot of the G5 movie is the five main characters trying to find the elements of harmony? Thought sunny wouldn’t necessarily fit into the role of the element of magic so perhaps there’s a 6th character not yet reveled... this is just my own theory tho :)
My little pony is a show that help us with with the problems we usually have in real life, like the bullying and that stuff, if g5 wants to put cellphones and social media in the series is completely fine since most of the problems that we currently have are here because of that, and now MlP wants to teach us about it in some way, I say it’s fine. Try to remember in what century we are in.
I think that cell phones actually have potential in G5, because the races are so divided, one thing that may connect everyone may be social media. The characters could influence far more ponies about the benefits of magic if they can reach a larger group of ponies perhaps on the opposite ends of equestria.
As long as it doesn't focus too much on cell phones, I don't really mind. Just using them as needed.
Or maybe using that kind of social media usage as ways to show safety on media for kids, and showing how harmful things can be when spread online, considering how a lot of younger kids nowadays have cell phones and use them more often than they did when I was a kid.
My prediction is that the movie will be about Sunny and her friends bringing back magic to Equestria while the show's arc will be about trying to have it coexist with technology since the sudden return of magic has caused conflict
And phones, tv and electronics was also on G1 MLP Tales.
So from what we know by the history of Hasbro we will be expecting a mlp style phone toy coming soon. :P

well, considering MLP G4 had technology like Arcades, Stereo systems, casinos and a helicopter in one episode, is a cellphone really that big a deal to gripe about? I don't see it as a big deal, honestly. I did before until I was reminded about what I mentioned before.
