My biggest criticism I had for Biden and Harris when they ran for office was there inability to stand on their record when Biden wrote the crime bill and Harris enforced it. If you are an honest person, you should be able to stand on your record when you were in office and the highest Law enforcement position in California. I grew up in HARLEM NYC from 1970 until 1989. It was really bad with heroin then crack and all the crime. We were killing each other at an amazing rate. But crime always increases after a Democrat takes Office.

FYI, drug-related crime (except for alcohol) was all but unknown in the US before drugs were outlawed. The DOJ has said that the violence associated with illegal drugs is primarily caused by the fact that they are illegal.
NY passed the Rockefeller drug laws in the early 70s which mandated severe sentences for heroin. It didn't make people give up heroin. It just made them recognize that the penalty for shooting someone wasn't any more than the penalty for having heroin, so it wasn't an additional risk to shoot someone. It didn't produce any benefits, at all. In fact, as every major government commission on the subject has concluded, it is the worst possible thing to do for a drug problem.

I think the biggest problem is the federal government trying to pass laws as a one size fits all brush. If they would just let states govern themselves it would solve so many issues. The federal government was never meant to have this kind of power.

    • @chlupl
      @chlupl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

The idea of letting states govern themselves is it actually allows for trying new ideas and finetuning concepts. One state can do a massive tough on crime bill and another state can focus heavily on resources for rehabilitation. One state may have great success while the other fails totally. I've time, other states would naturally want to adopt policies that work. In a Federal program, failure leads to doubling down and disparaging anyone who criticizes a policy. It also doesn't allow for trying a concept as it is generally all in or all out. This is apart from the logical issue that massive policies are nearly universally unwieldy. Huge amounts of money are wasted, beaurocratic red tape is everywhere, and the purpose that the policy is intended for is ineffective enacted at best.

Alice Johnson wasn't a "petty criminal" she was trafficking kilograms of hard drugs through state lines for cartels. The people she was working for were murdering people. They are straight killers. So don't say she was a petty criminal. Her story like most things we hear from the media has been misconstrued. • @Mr.Ekshin
      @Mr.Ekshin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Lets not be naive or distort the truth with leftist propaganda here.
The whole story line of first time offenders doing time for petty infractions is a MYTH. Are there people locked up for weed? Yes. Are they first time offenders? No. These cases are mostly probation and parole infractions. They are people who the system gave every chance to stay OUT of jail, but who just keep breaking laws.
Judges make every effort to NOT lock people up. They start with probation, community service, fines, house arrest, and every other penalty they can think of to NOT send people to prison. In fact the average person setting foot in prison for the first time, has NINE jailable offenses on their record. So this is not a "three strikes" system. It's a revolving door system that repeatedly lets people out on the street that perhaps should not be there.
So don't buy into the MYTH that our system is too strict, or that minor offenses will send a first time offender to prison. Most of the people in our prisons get there after a LOT of criminal offenses. And most of them, if released, will continue to commit criminal offenses.

You do what you can for the lost souls who are already committing crime and hurting people but what will make a long term difference is to stop the 8 year old from going bad. That is impossible if the culture that a kid grows up in does not have the right values. We need to change the culture and the schools. End of story.

Unions are obsolete and redundant in the modern western world. Unions began when there were no labour laws of any kind. We have labour laws to protect workers now. Unions are no longer necessary, and they are just a parasite on your paycheque and place a cap on your wages. The only people that have had experience with unions and still support them are the people that are lazy and entitled and want another form of protection against being fired for incompetence.

The greatest thing ever was when the air traffic controllers went on strike Reagan made the greatest choice of any president that I had seen up until that point and that's when I knew we had a leader someone who cared about our country and he was such a blessing to all of the young people who went in and took over those jobs and are probably still working them today and I think that it's great that the ones who walked off the job we're also blacklisted my friend's dad she always felt so sad because he had to work at a grocery store as a clerk because no one would hire him because he'd been an air traffic controller it's like yeah you're in the top 2% in the country at the time and your income and you're crying you walk out your job anyone who walks off a job does not deserve to have that job. If they don't like what they're getting paid you know what you do you open a business and you pay more or else take a seat. I'm not a big fan of Amazon but by God if they made a lower bid they deserve the gig. The unions have the biggest supporters of communist China of all Americans they've given them the most power they turned their backs on America and sent all the jobs in the future jobs overseas because they wanted to be lazy and like I said I worked in Union chaps I've seen it happen I think if people have weekends off they shouldn't have paid holidays I think they should have to pay other people to work for them if they want to go somewhere I have to it's a small business owner. I don't get minimum wage I work 100 hours a week and it's no big deal that's what work is people will only work 40 hours a week on vacation and are not honorable people because that's part time and look at the teachers union worst thing that's ever happened to our country our kids used to learn now look at them oh yeah they learn about how great communist China is but that's where we're supposed to worship cuz we got to make sacrifices so that they can have the jobs. That's how Biden was showing his Union support give me the sun we're making those deals over in China and when those guys come here to work from China holy crap those guys work 12 hours a day every day of the week most union workers have never worked a 12-hour day or work everyday of the week not at a job they might work on polishing the remote control

There is a big difference between “classical liberal” and what a “liberal” is in today’s society. Just as there is a difference in a “conservative” and a “republican”. Most Americans are in the middle these days. We want less government and more freedom. We want to protect our loved ones and be left alone. We don’t want our hard earned tax money to be freely thrown around by “elected” officials while we get no say so but yet we are all struggling just to make ends meet. We just want our constitutional rights to be respected and upheld, (true) justice to be served when they’re not being upheld, and people to be free to do whatever they choose to do unless it involves hurting or taking from others. The system is the problem. And that is a bipartisan issue. A lot of these bills they pass look good on paper.. but the fine print is where they get us. The fine print is the most important part to them. That’s why we must stay awake!

Some things that should be noted here:
    1) blacks get 10% harsher sentences than whites for the same crime, same circumstances
    2) men get 60% harsher sentences than women for the same crime, same circumstances
    3) if a woman has young children, she typically gets a shorter sentence than if she didn't
    4) if a man has young children, he typically gets a _longer_ sentence than if he didn't
Women (and whites, I would assume) also have advantages compared to men (and blacks) at every stage, from the moment they're stopped by police. I can't help but suspect that the gender gap is significantly wider than the race gap in those areas as well.
None of the above disparities are due to any formal policies. It's all just human nature. It's called the gender empathy gap. Which leads to a gender accountability gap.
But I wanted to draw particular attention to (3) and (4), because this is the axis on which the cycle repeats and worsens. Biden says "figure out the root causes? Sure, but later."
One of the two most significant predictors of the healthy socialization of children, and of avoiding situations that will land them in prison, is not having a mom around.
    It's having a DAD around.
Number (3) occurs not only because we have sympathy for the woman, but also because we have sympathy for her children, who will be deprived of her love and care.
For boys in particular, it's father deprivation that puts them on a road that all too often leads to crime and prison.
Girls also suffer negative effects from father deprivation, but they're mitigated by the fact that daycares and elementary schools are filled to the brim with healthy female role models. And they're affected differently than boys.
What's one of the ways girls are affected? They become much more likely to form their families early, and outside of a relationship with the father. Which means that when they have boys, those boys are way more likely to end up in prison when they grow up. And if, as men, they have kids, they'll get the longer sentence and their kids will be deprived of a father.
The cycle repeats with each generation, and worsens each time around.
And single mothers, even if they can't do anything about their choices now--the kids have been born, they're here--need to give their heads a shake. I see them all too often badmouthing men, and the father of their kids in particular, in front of and even TO their kids.
"I don't NEED a man." What message does that send to your sons? Where will they go to find a place where they do feel needed? A gang? And don't you think your girls will get the message that it's no biggie to form a family without a father?
Worse, "Your father ain't shit." Uh... just no. Don't say shit like that. Think it all you want, but stop poisoning your boys against a healthy masculine identity and your girls against healthy future relationships with good men.
The two primary contributors to this cycle, which in the US is worst in the black community (though whites are starting to catch up), are welfare, and mass incarceration, including "truth in sentencing", which began with this bill.
This is not a problem predicated on race or racism. Being black in America certainly doesn't help, but you see the exact same problem with "chavs" in the UK, who are primarily white, and where mass incarceration isn't a significant problem.
Chav is a "backronym", an acronym retroactively applied to an existing word. Chav originated as a shortening of a Roma (AKA: gypsy) word for boy/youth (chavo), but the acronym applied to it now is "council housed and violent". Synonyms would include thug, hooligan and hoodlum.
Council housing is the UK equivalent of "the projects". Single mother families as far as the eye can see. Not every council housed boy becomes a chav, but the pattern is so obvious, it's become part of cultural slang.
And yet, our governments don't want to look at it, let alone do anything about it.

#1 needs to have context added. Sowell and Elder looked into the crime statistics for your #1, they found out the reason they are given longer sentences is because on average black men tend to be more often repeat offenders which typically means longer sentences. Now not saying there aren't judges that have a bias towards black men but the stats don't completely back up that claim that black men tend to get longer sentences for just being black.
For example Harris did keep black men in jail longer for free labor, but that's more based on demographic of the region she ruled over. If she was in charge of an area where predominant white criminals were arrested she would also keep them in longer for the free labor. But, she used the repeat offender claim in combination with the Biden Crime Bill to keep black men locked up longer than they should have been

Keep in mind that there's a difference between what politicians say and what's actually in their bill. They talk a good game and really try to sugarcoat it. They're trying to sell you shit. Doesn't necessarily mean it's worth buying though. Brandon made it sound like this was a good idea, but hindsight shows it was awful. I bet the bill would look a lot more questionable if it was read aloud verbatim instead. It's also worth looking at what incentives he had to push it. Lobbying is a thing and it's always a good idea to follow the money trail when a politician pushes something to see if there are ulterior motives.

@@donclanton701 here in Cali, the leftist politicians are letting out violent and sexual criminals early and not prosecuting or giving light sentences for violent and sexual crimes.
Someone can’t commit a crime that is a misdemeanor and they jack it up to a felony. It’s usually the other way around where a felony is put down to a misdemeanor or someone has committed multiple felonies and all of them except one is lowered to a misdemeanor. Almost everybody thinks that non violent crimes like petty theft or possession of drugs for personal use shouldn’t have harsh sentences. But people should have to pay back the person from whom they stole from. My purse was stolen from my car and the cops didn’t do shit. They told me to fill out a form online. My ID was in there so I lost thousands of dollars bc I couldn’t start a new job for a month until I got my new ID. Crime affects people and those who commit it should be punished. Like I said, murder, rape, child, elderly and animal abuse, violent crimes should be felonies and those that commit those felonies shouldn’t get more than two chances to commit them again

True Story: My childhood friend James who was 19 went to prison with murderers and rapists for having 2 dime bags of weed on him, prior to his arrest he was working as a DJ and making $500/night, he had no criminal record and was a fun loving dude unfortunately he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, he was paroled after 8. We were all there to welcome him back home but he quickly became depressed, he had lost a lot of weight an was on anti depressants, his mother thinking it was a good idea invited over his ex for dinner thinking they can get reacquainted and talk about the good old days, the bitch came over with her fiancée, according to his Mom , she was regretful and she should have kicked them out because it was obvious they came to berate him, the fiancee said something witty and he went nuts and tried to stab the guy with a steak knife.
They called the cops on him and he left his mothers house for good, now a fugitive on the streets, he started hustling crack and became addicted to crack himself, last I saw him he was unable to produce a sentence and for someone so young looked old and frail, he was wearing garbage bags as shoes, asked him to come over and he started talking nonsense, he then took the bus and left, after 2 years he died homeless from the cold, police found out that an employee of a Chinese restaurant poured a bucket of mop water on him after closing while he was sleeping (claimed he didn't see him), it was -36 outside. He hid himself next to a garbage bin in an alley probably to shield himself from the cold wind and froze to death. All because of 2 baggies of weed.

When I wasn't such an "upstanding citizen" living in Las Vegas, I hung around with some very bad ppl, so I saw lots of them go to jail and prison. Well in Vegas if you're a felon, you can't get a rental apt or house or whatever.
Of course, there were certain complexes, who WOULD rent to felons. So now what you have, is a bunch of felons all living in the same place. Can't get jobs, and since these guys/gals are all in one place, they then start collaborating on how to get money, they start doing dope again because it's hard to say no when it's being passed around. So they go right back to the only job they know. Ripping ppl off, selling dope, etc. They usually end up back in jail.
It's a vicious circle. Lumping all these guys right outta jail in one raunchy area, they all have same things in common. Breaking the law. It's bound to happen when that's the situation.
I'm glad I left Las Vegas. But man the experiences I went through were pure adrenaline rush. I probably wouldn't change it. It's made me have street smarts and able to spot a con when I see one. I know their little tricks. So yeah, it was a dangerous time for me and I could tell u some stories that are crazy. I'm lucky I was never arrested or even killed. These were not nice ppl.

This is why "affordable housing" doesn't work. The men can't get the lower cost rent in these well to do apartment complexes but THE WOMEN CAN. Dental hygienists, paralegals, etc. Then they make bad life choices and they more often than not bring a thug or a bad actor home with them, and you get 5 or ten out to start and now in Atlanta in these suburban high rise apartment complexes going for 2500+ a month you're seeing trash on the ground, loud music, people milling around and hanging out, and now in Atlanta you're seeing guns drawn and drug crime going on in these "luxury apartment buildings", "market rate" housing, so they've got plainclothes officers trying to deescalate that, and if these owners don't get on top of it it's gonna be much worse. But you've got these suburban women who are a major voting base who swing elections and don't understand this and they actively advocate for counter intuitive things like "bail/prison/bond "reform", they get in BLM and get mislead by the emotional arguments and they think they're gonna make a difference when they're just letting dangerous criminals get on the street faster so they can commit more crimes

It sounded like mass shootings to me. With 12+ babies shot, dozens of people shot do to gang violence... Where were all the movements and the national news?..... What happened to Chicago? Imagine our life without criminals, without politicians and social media and news stations putting their own twist on situations... Oh my..

Yes!!! My husband was 18 and was federally charged in MI for weed and severed 5 years in a federal prison! By the time he spent his time and got out a year later it was legal in MI! But he will for ever be marked!

In 1989, public opinion polls showed that 85 percent of the public thought that jailing people for weed was the right thing to do. Most people probably would have told you that he should have got longer.
A Vietnam vet in a wheelchair got life for two ounces of weed in Oklahoma.
A guy was shot to death by the cops in his own living room in Malibu when the cops raided the place because they said they saw a single pot plant from 1,500 feet in the air. There was no pot plant.
People have already forgotten what it was like.
