Sandy Candy: The truth is, they need to stop listening to ALL of those people that enhance victimization. Instead, parents/guardians prepare and nurture their own children for school & academics, not ideologies. School isn't easy, but the rewards of a good education is what is needed. As citizens, demand better teachers. Learn and embrace their independent rights as individual sovereign American citizens, every American citizen is already protected by the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Civil Rights codes (prior to democrat rewrites in 2020). We've been fooled that modern globalist politicians & activists are more important, the truth is the founders/framers (regardless of race) were smarter and the citizenry 'are' protected. The People just don't realize others are keeping a job by acting as if they are fighting to protect them. Stop aspiration marketing to the kids, a sneaker is just a sneaker. Demand and embrace to help their own children be educated with real academics including reading, 'writing', arithmatic, science, english grammer, social studies, music, etc. Computer coding is for the corporatists, the vintage academics are for independence & ability to compete as children grow into adult leaders. Get these kids on the academic track for real college challenges, not softened studies that they will not be able to compete when they grow up. Teach them 'earning' an education is a worthwhile cause. Reform and military schools help teach disapline. But, the parents encouragement and neighborhood safety getting to & from school are more important.

Communities were literally burning down in 1994. Everyone wanted strict crime law. What changed the equation was the privatization of prisons - it became profitable to jail as many people for as long as possible. And the black community was easy to jail because most of them were poor and could not afford fancy lawyers. We need to stop treating drugs as a crime issue and deal with it as an addition issue. Except for the big time dealers - they can rot in jail.

The anchor gives the impression that the thing that divided the country about the crime bill was its effect on incarceration. Wrong. Yes, a significant number of Democrats (about a quarter of all Democrats) voted against it, but a majority of Republicans did, calling the bill "pork". That Republican opposition was the main source of division.

i absolutely hate how everyone keeps saying that Bernie Sanders supported that bill. the bill came in a package with other things that were good. Bernie Sanders gave a speech on the floor about the dangers of the "tough on crime bill". if he had not voted for the package, which that crime bill was in, we'd be hearing Hillary Clinton attacking Bernie for not supporting the Violence against Women Act and other things in that package.
it just makes me sick how they say Hillary supported it and Bernie supported it. it's not the same and it's misleading and dishonest.
and by the way. bills should be passed one at a time, not as packages. but they put things into packages so that things that would have no chance at getting enough votes would get it because of the others things in the package. this is how many laws that the American people don't support become laws.
