Many thanks Docs for another great video. I had an elderly friend who broke her fifth metatarsal when she turned in bed. The tightness of the overlying sheet caused the bone to fracture. She was confined to bed for some weeks before she was allowed to start moving. Unfortunately she was never able to walk without a slight limp. All because of an extra tight sheet! This was twenty-five years ago. I’m sure treatment has improved since then
Three months ago I split my fifth metatarsal and followed the doctor's instructions to walk with the orthopedic boot. Healing very well. Thanks for the information.
After a long fall from a rearing horse I broke mine. I was soon allowed to walk carefully after a few weeks so I chose to do it along a trout stream in the Sierra Nevada where I could do an occasional cold soak to keep the swelling down. Healed fast! ❤ (but don't take my advice when you have great docs like these guys!)
Once again, perfect explanations. I broke 2nd, 3rd and 4th metatarsal at the same time, 5th escaped! Same treatment plus crutches, non operative, all good except DVT caused by long car and air journeys during treatment, so important to ensure blood flow.
Best medical explanation and advise I have heard so far on a broken foot. Broke my foot 4-2 and I finally got my FP to order an X-ray. Up to now he only said to exercise the foot/ankle after a sprain. Made referral to Ortho but they never contacted me…so called them. Terrible clerical handling of a referral. Soonest they can see me is in two weeks. You say we are in control of our healthcare….but that is not true statement in today’s healthcare. Thanks for video. Well done.
I fell down while exercising. Currently watching this after almost being on rest for 2 months.Very informational video, glad to know that i can walk again alright
I just broke my 5th metatarsal bone, an L shaped fracture over zones 1 and 2. Have an appointment to see an orthopedic doctor, but this was so helpful and reassuring in the meantime!😊
I was one of the unlucky ones with a Jones Fracture that developed into a non-union. Took 5 months of trying to get it there naturally but in the end it needed a little extra help. Thanks to Dr. Danny Aurora for fixing it up well. Almost 18 months PO and foot feels great. Also thanks to Dr. Brad Weening for giving it your best shot early on. This fracture can definitely be a stubborn one!!
Off exact the subject, I broke the 3rd metatarsal, stress fracture going for a simple walk. Pediatrist put me in a boot. Within 2 days, my spinal alignment, gait, balance was thrown so far off I developed pinched nerves in my lower back. Doctor said quit wearing the $180 boot, try a post surgical shoe. Same result. He said the spine would correct itself in a few months. Not. 7 months later, I still have pain across the lower back and down both hamstrings. The foot healed fine with rest, better shoes. Now I need see a neuro surgeon to look at the possible damage to the spine.
I'm loving the validation that my Ortho was awful. I was in a knee boot 24/7 and she refused to allow PT while in the boot. She also thought there was no need for PT. I had a trip to Costa Rica 7 weeks after and I was hiking with a cane and very supportive hiking boots. I wasn't going to miss that trip. Wearing supportive shoes, Brooks stability shoes, right out of the boot made a huge difference in pain and balance.
Broke my fifth metatarsal, below zone three and needed surgery. I was in a cast for 6 weeks and then the boot. That was over three years ago and I still have pain at the site at times.
broke mine in zone 1, 8 days ago, and didn't bother to go to a doc for 2 days cause I thought it was a normal sprain (and yes I walked on both feet for those 2 days). Finally went to the doctor's office cause the swelling had increased, was immediately put in a cast, and told to not put pressure on the foot at all. Started walking on both feet after about 5 days cause I feel no pain (or sometimes only a minor pain, like a discomfort) in the foot even thought Im not on any pain meds. Will get another X-ray to see if the foot has healed tomorrow and give you guys an update (like the comment so I remember to).
Update, got an Xray again and thankfully im healing really well, so well infact that the X-ray tech asked if it had been 4-5 weeks since the incident and could not believe it when I told him it had been only one week.
@@abinash2371 The fracture is undisplaced and has occured in section 1 of the 5th metatarsal (end of the bone behind the pinky toe) and no I have not fully healed yet.
@@goofy5607 Hey there! I had a similar experence but sadly my bone got displaced and a surgery recommendation by doc was given so I booked the flight back home and got it operated just a few days ago its getting better now but the healing process is very slow because of low vitamin levels in the body and I have to fly back abroad cuz my uni is starting soon but anyways just a part of life :)
Great video Docs!👍 Lots of great information about the injury, treatment and length of healing! I guess I've been lucky since I've only had one broken bone in my body and that was a leg. You always let us know the best thing to do and if the situation is an emergency. Thanks for sharing another information video!
I fractured my fifth meta seven days ago. While playing volleyball, I landed on someone's foot and turned my left ankle. I heard and felt it pop. The pain took my breath away. I was able to hobble over the hospital, where they confirmed 5th MF. The next day, there was no pain. The day after that, i saw the foot specialist. So it's zone 2/3 jones fracture. 4 weeks in a walking boot, non weight bearing. If healing well🤞i can start to walk and wean off the walking boot. Thanks for the video. It was very informative.
@jadalaajay7144 I was in a walking boot for 7 weeks, non weight bearing. X-ray showed some healing after 7 weeks, so my foot doc gave me the okay to start walking in the boot. I only walked in the boot when I went outside. In my house, I walked around with just a compression sock to help with the swelling. All in all, it took about 9 to 10 weeks until i was fully healed and walking normally.
I did this in 2019. I've had bad ankles all my life. So I initially thought it was just a sprained ankle. 4 months later I went to the doc an it was diagnosed. PT fixed me up pretty quick to my surprise.
Wish the boot was available when I broke my baby toe. It has been at least 20 years. It must have some OA. Since it has started to get painful on long walks. Love these videos. You docs are wonderful and Awesome . Thank you for your work and teaching abilities.
Thank you for doing this video. Excellent communication skills coupled with expertise (and some humour). Broke my foot two days ago and wearing an air cast boot. You answered all the questions I had.
Thank you for the explanation. I received a Jones Fracture, 5th metatarsal, non displaced, 2 days ago, and am still in a lot of pain. The only thing the ER doc did was to fit me with an Orthopedic boot. He said this was a non weight bearing break and to STAY off my foot. Well ,... that's been kind of difficult to do. I have an 11 year old daughter, 6 pets, and a man child husband to take care of . None of which are helping me. So of course I fell again , right after taking the boot off because it was hurting my knee from using the knee scooter around the house, and now I'm afraid I've re-injured it. The ER doc referred me to follow up with an Orthopedic, but I have no health insurance. Am I destined for a deformity on my foot if I can't stay off it? How I fell is embarrassing. I was on the Porcelain God, only going number 1, but of course was in the middle of texting on my phone so I didn't get right up from the loo, and when I finally did, apparently my left leg had fallen asleep and lost my balance as I stood up, trying to avoid banging my arm and head against the wall/sink, my body weight went all on my left side, had sandals on, left foot twisted/rolled, and that was it. Bare butt in the air, because I fell before I could pull up my under lovelies, dog freaked out when I cried out in pain, and left my room, so I'm alone on my porcelain tile, bare ass in the air, crying in pain. Now, thx to that same dog, who is a big German Shepard, who pushed me out of the way, causing me to fall again, my foot is swollen 3x the size of my right. I know if I go back to the ER , without insurance, they won't be able to do anything. So, do I just keep icing it, sleep with the boot on, and hire help? My husband isn't capable of taking care of me, let alone our daughter and 5 cats and Demon dog.
I was running in the Hills and stepped on a rock and broke my fifth metatarsal three years ago. As soon as I told people, that's what happened, turns out almost everyone knew someone who had that injury. It's a very common sports injury apparently.. my pain went away after six weeks.
Zone 2 5th metatarsal Jones fracture happened in December- luckily was not displaced - had a cast on for 12 weeks and walking boot for a month - just now getting back to walking. The injury was frustrating, but I am very happy I listened to my doctors and took it very slow. Area still gets sore. Elevate the injured foot and stay off it as much as possible. Healing cannot be rushed or the bone will be re-injured -
@@TalkingWithDocs. Hello doctor, I have a comminuted fracture of the 5th metatarsal, my doctor put it in a cast. When I went for a checkup after the 15th day, the boiling did not start. Is this normal? Can I get better without surgery? Please reply.
I broke my 5th metatarsal in zone 2 almost a year ago. Thankfully didn’t need surgery but they were going to stick me in a proper cast for 8 weeks until I swore I wouldn’t remove the walking boot hahah. Completely non-weight bearing, used crutches. I was shocked at the state of my foot after it had healed. SO swollen, bruised, flat… all the muscles in my leg had atrophied so it looked MUCH skinnier than my good leg. Started physio and was forced to use a walking cane for a month after having my boot off. It took months of physio to get back to normal walking, rebuilding the arch of my broken foot, getting the mobility back. The swelling and bruising also lasted many months after finishing physio. I’m all good now but even a year later my foot will just randomly swell and hurt, especially if I am on it for long stretches. Anyway, the moral of the story is don’t let yourself become Vit D deficient unless you want brittle bones! All this misery from literally stepping on a bad sidewalk crack. Take your supplements, people!
Broke my pinky toe a few years ago. Wished I could say it was from mountain climbing, but it was from walking into furniture. Still can’t wear certain shoes/sandals that are not closed in, on the side. When it happened the toe was sitting at greater than a ninety degree angle to the foot . I thought I could just home remedy tape it to the next toe but I ended up having to wear a cast boot to immobilize it, so I could sleep and to protect it from being moved. Wished I sought medical help right away, as it took longer to heal. Toe was harder to heal than a broken arm for me, because it’s harder to immobilize. Thanks so much for covering this topic.
thats how i broke mine, slammed it on the leg of the kitchen island while walking past it. its the 4th time ive broken a baby toe, but this time with a broken 5th metatarsil also.
I broke my 5th metatarsal after rolling it on rocks. I was in a cast to start, it wouldn’t heal. Non Union break and It was plated and screwed. After a year, the screws migrated and the hardware was removed. I was not allowed to weight bear. It’s fine now. I had an awesome doc.
Yup slipped on a step barefoot and snapped the fifth. Ended up with a cast clear up t my calf. After a week of cast banging on my ankle I cut it off. There was some displacement. I took a pop cycle stick wrapped gauze around the stick to pad it and taped it to bottom of my foot. Worked great. Changed the gauze daily on the stick. After about six weeks of wearing the taped stick( fit inside my tennis shoe fine) it healed. 20 plus years later no problems.
@@ChristianMartinez-qw5tk doctors asked me how I got cast off. I told them soaked it in bathtub if hot water till soft and took my metal sewing scissors and cut it off! LOL. It healed great. My ankle was crazy bruised at first from loose cast banging on it. Where cast ended at my toes was sliding almost to my heel. Wasn't doing any good anyhow.
This was great. Now can you consider doing one on a "March" (stress/overuse) fracture? (2nd Metatarsal & Ball of Foot ..and since we all like puns... mine even happened in the month of March ! Really. I'm at week 6 and oh my... My Guide Dog wants to get us walking farther and faster again, sooner than later. Thanks Heaps.
Great video!! Always learn so much. Thank you Docs. I haven't broke my foot I did however step off a curb wrong and ended up with a severe sprain and a bruised bone. I have developed a healthy fear of curbs now LOL.
Great job doctors! Very educational. I don't know which zone was impacted, but I do have the precise foot break. It still feels very tender after 6 weeks off it. Should I wear the boot more?
Hey guys! This is only partly related to this. Feet. Peripheral neuropathy. Idiopathic. What’s the latest research? Got the official diagnosis, with all the classic tests, and advice for managing pain including meds. Internet research is full of wild claims and differing opinions. What’s the latest real evidence based research on managing pain, slowing or reducing progress of deterioration for those of us whose source of the nerve injury is unclear. Love all your work!
This is the same question I have, yet everyone refuses to answer. Nobody talks about CRPS and arthritis that develops as a result of your injury. No one has solutions, they just tell you, you are stuck with neuropathy now for the rest of your life and there is no cure. With all advancements that we have in 2024, doctors still don’t know anything about human conditions. That being said thanks to these rare docs for posting this informative video, since even the doctors we see in person won’t give proper guidance.
So weird that ive been putting off going to the Dr. This week. Ive had a random 2nd and 5th Metatarsal fracture a couple years ago, so im pretty sure ive got a 5th fracrure right now. Thanks for the video
Hi I fell in a hole in our back yard in clunky shoes. Broke my 4th and 5th metatarsal s. Currently week three in boot and as last X-ray placement is looking good. My problem is my knees. They hurt worse than my foot. Going to do some strengthening exercises to help. Bought several other recommended lifts for my shoe to help with gait but didn’t help. Loved this video and thanks for posting it .
I broke my left 5th metatarsal, got a screw immediately and asked to have it removed after one year. That was about 20 years ago. I continued jogging without issues ever since.
10:14 Thank you so much! I have been limping around for 2 weeks! Finally had an X-ray that shows a zone 1 fracture. I am in a Post-op sandal for 4 weeks
5 week in with the 5th Metatarsal shaft broken mildly displaced in a cast .. Swelling on keeping the foot down stiffness and little pain on the site of the fracture. I am weightbearing but minimum.
16 weeks in a boot. That was how long I was in a boot ( I took it off at night), Not very compliant patient here - I walked on the boot early, and I think it probably made the healing slow. I also had fractured the 3rd and 4th metatarsals, though, the 3rd having a longitudinal fracture, and I tore the Lisfranc tendon. I escaped surgery, though.
In 2007 I fractured 2 metatarsal in the middle of my right foot. Occupational Health sent me over to the ED for an x-ray. I was told there was no fracture, but just a sprain and given orders for PT. I could not tolerate standing and walking. I caught rides to work and used one of the hospital wheelchairs when I got there. It wasn't getting any better. They ordered more PT. I think this only made the fracture worse. I went from November 7th to December 15th before they ever let me get an MRI. Yep. Two fractured metatarsal. I didn't get in to the surgeon's office until December 26th. He placed a hard cast on me. When he took it off, only one of the bones had healed. He sent me to a foot surgeon. He concluded that he could repair it, however, it would leave me with worse arthritis and pain than if we did nothing. Hopefully he didn't just gaslight on this because it was a work injury. This many years later, and I still can't stand on it very long. I need a rollator walker.
I fractured the fifth meatarsal on my right foot also fractured the ankle broken off the leg bone. Super painful. Though it heal very well. I had to have the fracture casted for over ten weeks.
Great job!! Now after breaking each foot twice within 2 years can you give me any idea how to stop this from becoming a reoccurant problem. I'm exercising well in between and wearing only good tennis shoes at all times. Is surgery my best shot?
Great video! I fractured my 5th metatarsal about 4 weeks ago and have been in a short boot ever since. This was my second time fracturing the same bone; first time was in 2015. At that time a screw was put in and it healed quickly. Well, I fell at home and the fracture is at the tip of the screw. I sure don't want surgery and last xray showed the bone is healing, but surgeon said the bone had "triangulated." What does that mean? I go back in 3 weeks for another xray. Thank you!
The sesamoid bones are visible under the first metatarsal distal end. Similar in functional anatomy to the patella bone. In bunion situation they rotate with the metatarsal inward and upward to a non functional alignment. Oft taken for granted the foot anatomy is very complex and important to overall health.
I’ve broken mine twice, left foot. I was told nothing could be done but to wear a boot. So I did and told I could keep working as a nurse on my feet all day. I suffered, believe me! This was in 2005, healthy age 56, boot was to the knee. Why didn’t anyone take better care of me? United States
Broke mine on a Wednesday finally went to Doctor on Friday the pain was unbearable. Glad i did go I had a Jones Fracture on my fifth metatarsal not sure what zone .There goes my summer fun
Same here. June 8th, 5th metatarsal on my left foot, fractured in the base area... no weight bearing was given a boot, luckily I been using a knee scooter to get around, been.doing motions with ankle and reied to weight bear but can't walk yet, just a little weight, then I tried more and fell, because it hurt so bad, it swollen even more and it was not swelling as bad before then... so now I feel like im.starting all over. I go back to the dr this week we will see what he says... happy healing
Hi, I’m a 70 year old woman who has a Jones fracture in zone 2 and have been in a tall boot for a week. The boot actually hurts after awhile so I remove it while on the couch with it elevated. Is this ok? Also, what is your experience with older gals’ healing time?
I injured my left foot fifteen or twenty years ago, and it sure sounds similar to this type of injury. I was throwing a chain while helping another driver tie his dolly onto his fifth-wheel plate, as I stepped forward with my left foot, I felt a pop on the outside of my foot, actually, it was three pops in a row. Afterward, I was unable to push the clutch in to shift with the ball of my foot and had to use my heel to relieve the pain. Now, that side of my left foot is painful and my foot swells a lot. Does this sound like that kind of injury?
A viewer from Europe here. Broke my 5th metatarsal right foot, an avulsion fracture with diastasis 2mm, two weeks ago by just going down the steps. My ankle twisted and my foot was pulled along for the right and I heard a snap. Had a cast for 2 weeks which now has been removed. ( no surgery) Although I elevate my foot a lot, I have major swelling whichs sets in during the afternoon and evening. This restricts my foot movement enormously, to the extent that I can hardly walk. My orthopedic surgeon told me to not be a wimp and go on it. Currently I am on sick leave but am expected to go back to work in 2,5 weeks, in a job where I have to walk a lot. Even with all the resting I am extremely swollen in the foot. How on earth can I return to work in a few weeks? Saw the physiotherapist for the first time yesterday and he told me that the priority is to get the swelling down. Got small exercises in order to stretch my calf muscles which feel very short after having had a cast. What should I do?😪🤕
Hi guys this is a great video. Ive broken my 5th Metacarsal, the dancers fracture, 3 days ago. I have a boot at the moment and on wednesday i have an appointment with a specialist at the hospital. This has taught me a lot, i really dont want surgery. Its a shaft fracture right in the middle it looks quite bad. Do you think they will suggest surgery? Im an athlete but im happier to wait longer and take supplements rather than go through surgery
I broke my 5th metatarsal bone below what they call the jones fracture, non-displaced, thank God. I appreciate all the good info given here. Currently i am 4 weeks in, 1 week i spent on crutches until I was able to see my ortho, then 3 weeks in the boot. The Aircast boot is so amazing, i feel like could run in it, but if course I dont. So total of 4 weeks and i now can walk around at home without the boot, i go up and down stairs, and do it all slowly. My question is, when can i safely run again? My ortho told me over and over again that i am so healthy and expects a full recovery in 8 weeks. I have another x-ray appointment 6 weeks in. Is it really safe for me to ease unto running at 8 weeks? My BMI is 20.5, i dont smoke or drink ever, and Im a marathoner, gym junkie. I've taken a pharmaceuticals grade bone supplement to help. Reduced my sugar intake and increased my protein intake for healing. I have little to no pain at the time.Just more like a mild discomfort in the area of the fracture. I will start swimming this week (at week 5) to ease back in to it. My question again is, can i safely ease into running at 8 weeks?
They have it but they only give it to rich people. That’s why you don’t see any rich people suffering from broken 5th metatarsal or with post arthritis and CRPS as a side effect of a broken 5th metatarsal. Rich humans who are greedy give stem cells for healing to their rich fellow people. They neglect the poor especially if the poor doesn’t have health insurance. But we all know what happened to greedy Roman civilizations and Mayan civilization who were some of the most powerful (greedy) humans on this earth. Same faith will come for any greedy human like it did in history. Natural order sorts everything out, naturally. Human will never be in charge no matter how much money he hoards as a result of his greed.
Yeah and they don’t tell you anything about inflammation on your DR appointments. They just take your money and treat you like yet another number. Inflammation results in arthritis and CRPS.
I just broke my foot here today. They didn't mention any zone. I don't know if I need surgery. It's been about 12 hours since it happened. Would using a knee scooter be helpful?
Great job! 22 years old, i have had a fracture right betwene zone 1 and 2 ON SPOTabout 8 and a half weeks ago and i have been in a cast and on crutches sence then, if i dont get the cast of on the next xray schould i request an operation or wait a few more weeks?? Please help!!!
I'm a 24-year-old male with a well-maintained physique, as I exercise daily. Recently, I sustained a 5th metatarsal tuberosity avulsion fracture at the tip, in zone one. While the triangular tip is fractured, it remains attached,it's not ripped off. My doctor has placed me in a plaster cast, which I've had on for 15 days, and has advised me to take calcium supplements for recovery. Could you please advise on any additional steps I should take for optimal healing?
Had a nondisplaced jones fracture 4 months ago. Non-weight bearing my broken foot for 3 weeks and been on a walker boot for 2 months after. Greatfully did not need a surgery for my case.
I want to take the opportunity to thank you for the educational materials that you have provided on the youtube channel. It is much appreciated. Question regarding my injury and whether or not if i should consider surgery this coming days. I have a fracture to the fifth metatarsal due to an avulsion in zone #1, with a slight displacement to the left foot while playing tennis recreationally. Want to know the best possible method for my injury. Surgery with risks and benefits or natural healing risks and benefits? From your videos, usually with the zone 1, do not need surgery and let the natural healing process take its course and should start to heal slowly between 6-8 weeks. With this natural method, will the bone fused or not fused with my displacement without surgery intervention, will it causes issues in my mobility once healed, fused, or malunion, etc. If surgery, will it cause discomfort or complication in the future? basically risks & benefits with surgery? thanks in advance for your reply.
In the wrist the scaphoid bone ( somewhat comparable to the foot’s navicular bone) because of its very high percentage of articulation surfaces is limited by necessity to limited blood supply thus making healing a bit problematic and taking extended periods. Our joints and skeletal structures are miraculously designed. In the foot the first metatarsal and its attachment point articulation with the medial cuneiform bone ( distal of the navicular bone) can rotate on its axis to cause a bunion situation. Then the big toe is inclined to shift it’s normal position to a more lateral direction towards the other toes and the metatarsal head creates a bump on the side of the foot. Normal feet are so perfectly aligned and a marvel of interconnecting range of motions. The tendon attachment point on the fifth metatarsal is unique design in the body. Unfortunately it can be somewhat vulnerable to breakage.
I also have a fracture on zone 2! Had an accident on e-scooter 3 months ago and amongst everything I fracture my foot. I was initially treated by a conservative doctor so was put in a boot for 6 weeks and then indicated to start walking…but the foot was still swollen and painful with no progress on the fracture so I saw another ortho and he suggested an additional 6 weeks in the boot. (And he also questioned why the first doctor didn’t operate the fracture in the first place since the gap was big enough. Also, he said that now it’s too late to operate since the surgery would be more complicated.) Anyway! Now, 3 months later, the jones fracture has made barely any progress, so just started focused shockwave therapy. I’m not sure how long this will take and if surgery would just help more than letting it naturally heal. After all this drama with German doctors, I’d love to hear your opinion on my X-rays if that would be possible!! 😁
This is what I’m afraid of. Been in a post op shoe for about 5.5 weeks, using crutches and non weight bearing. I’m supposed to start walking at 6 weeks, but I’m worried about my healing status. My next x ray follow up is another 2 weeks after I’m supposed to start walking. I’m anxious
While stopping my American bully XL getting n2 a fight with another big dog -i got spun around n pulled 2 the ground - felt an instant burn in zone 5 ... Iced it but its pretty swollen 2day & very painful 2 walk on it
Fractured my 5th near the toe three weeks ago (confirmed by x-ray) and orthopaedics at my nearby major NHS hospital in Scotland told me I didn't need a boot or any other treatment, and there would be no follow up. I was just told to take it easy and it would take 4-6 weeks to heal completely. I do have it strapped (every week, by an experienced non-NHS podiatrist, who also correctly diagnosed before I had the x-ray!) but have been walking on the foot daily as I have a dog to exercise and I live alone. It is slowly getting better, but I'm really interested that the recommended treatment in the UK is so different!
Hmmm… seems to be a significant divergence of approach going on here! My fracture is actually healing fine - my non-NHS podiatrist checked progress with ultrasound last week. His support has been invaluable given I got no guidance whatsoever from anyone in any part of NHS Tayside! Even had to submit an SAR to get hold of the actual x-rays as GPs don’t get to see them!
Hello, thank you for the great info. I broke my 4 & 5 the Metatarsal on 10/28/24. I did not clearly understand the rationale for surgery the doc mentioned lack of blood flow. I do not drink , no smoking of anything no diabetes. I decided against surgery because of the complications with that. He recommended a US bone stim device . I just read the report because he did not clarify the section it broke in was the worst. It is the Jones area The 5 meta…. I am a RAD RN & have a high deductible. The cost out of pocket is high. I only have 4 weeks paid off… I am a mountain biker & trail runner & lift weights. Its a hard decision. His recommendation is a boot & heel walking if needed. Please help 😮
Untreated Lis franc (R) foot Dropped a crock pot on my bare foot!!! A week earlier I tore my (L) Meniscus exercising. Impossible to stay off foot for the 6-9 week non weight bearing therapy😂
I have a Jones fracture wore a cast for 3 months, I'm have pain in the area. Physician didn't recommend physical therapy. I also feel using the crutches resulting in fractured wrist in 2 places and elbow.
Is it normal to feel sorts of nerve numbness and kind of heat going all the way up my leg? I broke my pinky toe 5 days ago and it’s still feels like that
Fell off a ledge and broke my calcaneous in three places and cracked the talus bone. 3.5 months non weight bearing. No surgery because it was work comp doctor who worked for the insurance company. 9 months later, walking with pronounced limp. Left hip aches daily from being on crutches so long. Will probably never jog again. A terrible injury. Post traumatic sub taler arthritus has set in. DONT BREAK YOUR HEAL.
I have a Jones fracture and had surgery just over two weeks ago. Stitches are out. Doc gave me a boot a week before and then after surgery. Four weeks til X-ray to check healing. Don’t know after that. Non weight bearing.
I am going through exactly the same thing broke the fifth metatarsal pseudo jones fracture I am two weeks postop. They took the dishes last week. Same thing I’m waiting four weeks in a bootleg cast to see if the bone is healing. I got a screw in hoping the bone joins and heals up well
I am 57, had a pseudo jones partially intra articular 19 days back. Was in a breg air boot until now. surprisingly am able to walk now and put load without the boot but with a mild discomfort. is it ok to wean myself away from the boot? Thanks for your response.
I had a "dancer's fracture" to my fifth metatarsal after rolling my foot on a walnut while running downhill. I think had to walk 1.5 miles to my car only putting weight on that heel. There was no pain unless I made a specific movement. I was in a boot 24/7 for 6 weeks. My bone heeled but my foot, angle and hip have never forgiven the time in the boot. Hindsight I should have spent some time out of that boot.
I slipped going down our stairs and broke my right foot about 4 years ago but didn’t realize it. About 8 months ago I went to a podiatrist and found out it had broken the bone you’re talking about in this video. I went in due to some pain & discomfort and numbness in the outside edge of my foot. The doctor took X-rays and found out I had broken the bone but didn’t mention I needed surgery when I saw her. Depending on my shoes I wear my right little toe will tend to go somewhat numb as well as the side of my foot going halfway back to my heel. Is this normal? Can anything be done at this point to correct the discomfort and numbness I get or is it most likely too late and I just need to wear good supportive shoes or orthotic shoes?
Hello, I have a spiral fracture on the shaft of my right 5th metatarsal, which happened 5 days ago. The doctor and nurse advised me to start weight-bearing exercises and try walking on it after 3 days. Is this really okay? I've read and heard everywhere else that I should be resting and leaving it alone, so I'm quite confused. I want to heal as quickly as possible but don't know what’s best. Could you provide advice on doing weight-bearing exercises so soon after this type of fracture?
While walking in the mountains I twisted my left foot and got 5th metatarsal oblique fracture. Feels little pain when putting pressure on the left side of foot.In a fiber cast plaster for a month . Having collagen, calcium and vitamin c. Any advice or suggestions are welcomed.
Who's watching this with a broken 5th metatarsal

Mine is not broken, it's been xrayed but ghe bone still sticks out and is painful to touch
Me it hurts soooo bad lol

I also got a DVT from a 6 hour car ride after 3 weeks NWB with my jones fracture. Very scary
I wish we had more Doctors like this 🇺🇸
Best medical explanation and advise I have heard so far on a broken foot.

Did u remove the cast/boots? Do u still experience the pain while walking??
I just broke my 5th metatarsal bone, an L shaped fracture over zones 1 and 2. Have an appointment to see an orthopedic doctor, but this was so helpful and reassuring in the meantime!😊
Glad we could help. Good luck!
Make sure you get treatment plan before leaving Ortho. Get exrays
How’s your fracture now could you remove the cast and able to walk normally now ???
I was one of the unlucky ones with a Jones Fracture that developed into a non-union. Took 5 months of trying to get it there naturally but in the end it needed a little extra help. Thanks to Dr. Danny Aurora for fixing it up well. Almost 18 months PO and foot feels great. Also thanks to Dr. Brad Weening for giving it your best shot early on. This fracture can definitely be a stubborn one!!
18 months oh hell no ... 😭
Omg I have a trip to Costa Rica in 6 weeks and I just reinjured my fracture today. This gives me hope thank you
Broke my fifth metatarsal, below zone three and needed surgery.

U didn't get pop or cast?
How many days it took for u ?
@jadalaajay7144 I was in a walking boot for 7 weeks, non weight bearing. X-ray showed some healing after 7 weeks, so my foot doc gave me the okay to start walking in the boot. I only walked in the boot when I went outside. In my house, I walked around with just a compression sock to help with the swelling. All in all, it took about 9 to 10 weeks until i was fully healed and walking normally.
@saimasamar288 Sorry, I just saw your question. I explained my journey down below in the comments.

Ok, but how's your mom's back?

No way !? I took my cast off 2 weeks later now I have 2 months and it’s healed but hurts a lot depending on what type of shoe I wear , lol

Thank you!
Or exactly sure what they mean by that. Fingers crossed it just heals!
What about an old, untreated fracture on the outside of the foot that is now aching, sometimes a lot?!!!
People it seems underestimate the dangers of having the sheets tucked in too tightly. Heard a lot of people have hurt their feet that way.

My ankle twisted and my foot was pulled along for the right and I heard a snap.
Had a cast for 2 weeks which now has been removed. ( no surgery)
Although I elevate my foot a lot, I have major swelling whichs sets in during the afternoon and evening.
Do you ever use electrical current therapy on this fracture? I have heard that this speeds the rejoining of the area of the break.
I've heard of this too. Any feedback from the Doctor's would be helpful
Any advice for unhealed surgery wound?
In the future stem cells will revolutionize medicine. Stem cells will be able to regenerate bones, ligaments, tendons and even cartilage.
The other thing I discovered is that if the inflammation is not treated, it can damage your joints and bone.

Also, he said that now it’s too late to operate since the surgery would be more complicated.)
Anyway!
Iced it but its pretty swollen 2day & very painful 2 walk on it
Get an xray
Avulsion fracture fifth metatarsal
Usually does well
Fractured my 5th near the toe three weeks ago (confirmed by x-ray) and orthopaedics at my nearby major NHS hospital in Scotland told me I didn't need a boot or any other treatment, and there would be no follow up.
I also broke my 5th on the distal shaft 3 weeks ago, went to an NHS hospital in England and was given a boot to wear for 4 weeks.
I only have 4 weeks paid off…
I am a mountain biker & trail runner & lift weights.
Me, heeling well!!! I can start weight bearing 20 percent now as of follow up X-ray…… healed as usual….
I have fracture in 5th metatarsal non displaced. Can it be fine in elastic band? Because my leg is unable to bear the weight of the big boot
Fractured in a car accident in 2010. It still gets very swollen by end of day. I had tons of hardware…all gone now
Please whft about foot drop. .w only 25 degree angle...???
