Love this content, can’t wait for the full mission series. But chaps couple of things for all us space hulk boffs - can’t move a blip into line of sight of marine - if you jam on o/w you flip the marker and have to wait for the GS to perform an action in the marine players line of sight. (So GS can move up one) then you pay the point to flip the jam back to overwatch, but you don’t get to shoot till the next action is performed; as the marine was not on o/w when the GS moved while he was jammed. Probably wouldn’t have made much odds as the over watch shooting was brutal. Love it though thanks for this content 👍🏻
Great to see SH on the channel.. played this mission so many times. I have a first ed copy and it's Dark Angels v stealers. White Dwarf issue 121 and 122 had rules for Traitor Terminators, marine v marine. There were rules for blind grenades to block LOS. WD 121 had a mission called Contract Revoked with 4 terminator squads of Blood Angels, Ultramarines, Death Wing and Salamanders against 15 Death Guard terminators. Quite an epic game. The corridors had a max length of 50 squares and width of 25 squares. Centrally there was a librarium 5x5 and concourse 11x3. Rules for an Autocannon and missile launcher were included and something called a conversion beam projector.
You got the calm golf commentator voice going, only difference is that this is exciting to watch! First time I actually see a space hulk game, looks fun :)
So - the rules may be different in the edition you are playing but in 1st edition you dont get sustained fire in overwatch, its 6s or nothing every shot. Also the Genestealer player needs to convert blips BEFORE he moves into the players line of sight, you cant intentionally move blips into a Terminators LOS. If a Terminator gets into LOS of a blip (opening a door, killing an Genestealer in the way) then the Terminator player gets to place the genestealers on the board, so can try position them away as much as possible. Minor stuff but it buys the space marine a square here or there, may well have changed between editions
Also - clearing a jam removes overwatch, and the blip that survived being flamed should have been free to move - again this may have changed between versions but OG rules are as above

Let me quote: Sustained Fire If a Space Marine fires his storm bolter at a target in his Action phase and misses, he can gain a sustained fire bonus if he uses his next action to shoot again at the same target. The sustained fire bonus may also be taken by a Space Marine firing on overwatch that takes a second or subsequent overwatch shot at the same target.
Well done guys lots of fun, I remember that had space hulk datasheet rules for space wolves, dark angles. I used to use my Black Templar models to play and convert genestealers models rules for other xeno race and that was a lot of fun too.
Finally getting into the hobby after years of putting it off. Slowly building up a Tyranid army so its exciting to see more nids being played on the channel
Think you start with two blips as part of the deployment. Mission reads that you get 2 blips per reinforcement phase. At least that’s what it says in 2014 version I have. So you start with 4 blips?
@@StrikingScorpion82 yes I think you could be right there. I don’t know what the changes were 😊 I’ve only got 2014 rules. If GS player had 4 blips on turn one they could threaten the rear and also get blips up the board to jam up that crucial cross section. I’ll see if I can find 2009 rules and compare 👍🏻
Might be wrong as been a while, but think the rules prohibit moving a blip into marine LOS. You must flip it before starting any move, if you intend to move into LOS. When revealing blip, you cannot place stealer in direct LOS, so may lose one in circumstances where there's no room to place them all out of LOS. As I say, may be remembering incorrectly but worth checking rules.
Yeah that rule hasn't changed. I watched all their missions and this rules error had rather huge impact on events, with 'stealers avoiding cross corridor overwatch by placing ahead of the revealed blip, 'stealers spawning that should have been lost due to no space getting kills on marines. It was consistent though so it could be seen as playing house rules and the difficulty increase for the terminators was lessened somewhat due to the consistent rules error of allowing jammed bolters in overwatch to be unjammed and fired again in the same 'stealer move action seen, and James' amazing dice rolling! I really enjoyed watching them play.

Man id want a box of this game just for those amazing terminator models. But this looks like it'd be a very fun game just to break out and play with a friend during quarantine.
Great report, but a couple of mistakes I noticed. If a stealer moves to go out of Los the terminator still gets to fire overwatch. If the terminator player forces the reveal he place's the models & can place them facing away from him. Tha blip Tha survived the flamer should have been moved out of the flamed area. Hope you don't mind me pointing these things out.
It looks like playing genestealers in this game would be really frustrating, in most circumstances it's running straight into fire down a long hallway and the space marines have all the time and bullets to take down your units.

Hmmm, Can you unjam your gun during hte genestealer's turn? I donlt thnk so. that's the whole point of hte jam. Also command points do not carry on past the space Marine's turn.

Comand points CAN be used in Genestealer turn at any point even interrupting a genestealer action (if you didn't use them in the marine turn) BUT the best ue of them is using them to unjam your bolter; as allows overwatch to not be broken... ...this is acording to 3rd edition and posterior ones (...witch although are called 4rth or 5th, they really are re-edits on 3rd; same minis and all) witch makes life easier for the marine... but compensates by bringing back the timer (this guys are not using it) in hopes that the marine will get so stresed that he will mess up something... also in later missions genestealer get great perks like te dreaded broodlord... so in this mission, if the marine does the placement correctlly, he has little chance of loosing
Space Hulk Terminators are the absolute shit for me since I play Blood Angels. Slap them on a 40mm base and throw them on a table for some great sculpts.
As a kid I really wanted the first edition of space hulk but being working class and poor most of the time could never afford it ,,,it’s now 2024,,,and I still can’t afford it
This mission is balanced for 1st edition where overwatch doesn‘t get any sustained fire bonuses. I don‘t know how this could be a fair fight for the genestealers.
It's dessigned to be the first mission on a campaign; so it's the easiest... and if the marine player is a rookie, will comitt errors, forget to use overwatch, waste comand points in his turn so he can't clear jams... ...but yeah, for veterans the stealer should receive more blips per turn, so the opportunitties to cause jams increases exponentially; so the placement of your flamer is more vital, as the deat of a single marine can endanger the whole mission
ya lose overwatch if u jam. and its always 6s needed on overwatch so youd need to use cps to fire after unjamming ..couple of errors at bout 25, 31min mark
Interesting, but I don't see how this is balanced. Far from a suicide mission. Is it pure luck getting the GS into combat? Not like the SM tactics were innovative or unusual at all...
Was good watching, but I'm afraid you played very badly. This mission is an easy stealer win, you just need to flood that top corridor at the start with blips, once the door opens you're right next to him and he gets overwhelmed. I've never seen the marines win if you do that and I've been playing since 1st edition!
If the Space Marine leads with the Heavy Flamer he can counter that easily enough, in fact aggressive Heavy Flamer is the secret to Space Hulk happiness :)
@@mildlyderanged he really can’t. If he leads and opens the door, he’s too close to flame and he’s at the front so can’t overwatch the next wave. Have tried all options and nothing beats the top corridor stealer flood

I've got the OG mission book in front of me and the HF should be able to open the door and lob a shot into the next section (which is immediately beyond the door) with no issues. I'm having a Hulk session this weekend so will try out the Genestealer top corridor flash mob from both sides and see how it goes :D

This was the game that got me into 40k. I need to go back and paint my miniatures and break it out again.
23:33 I think the genestealer could have moved diagonally to not trigger overwatch, so the marine would have gotten 1 not 2 overwatch shots.

the trick is to focus one marine, force a jam and swamp them. once one marine is down the rest of the squad will domino.

How good does this game hold up against modern strategy games?
