No Lydia - no - "All the Warhammer mans won't be angry at you"! Many of us who ever tried to paint these models knows EXACTLY what it feels like getting that first large model and realizing that we bit off more than we could chew.
Well this was a nice treat. Lydia did a great job for a project that large. Ben and Lewis also did really well and accomplished their goals. What stole the show for me was Tom’s detail work on the Rogal Dorn. Great use of technique that results in a model that looks plucked out of the setting.
I like to think that "Gamblor" is a ship that has been commandeered by the Emperor's Children, and that "Gambleina" is just an Ork in a two piece and a fright wig.
I'd say that's the bare minimum given what a mini cost today. I get the purpose of the video is to give hope and courage to who is not a profesional painter. Nu it just would have fail for me if i didn't knew better. If that's the quality i should expect from my first mini after the cost of the purchase i rather not waste my money. Also big minis are easy to paint only when you do it poorly, the truth is that you have just an insane amount of space for free handing, weathering/ageing, special effects, lightnings...
I know, hate to think where I would put it, but I entered with no expectations of winning, mainly cos it would look epic with my own dubiously painted Blood Angels. That said, would not say no to Tom's Rogal Dawn Tank, it could be the kick up the arse I need to collect a Guard Mechanised Armoured Force of Tanks, Baneblades, a smattering of "ground pounders" with transports and even more tanks!! Might go well with the new death korps of krieg range the whispers of the warp and GW's advent calendar, told me might be coming this year.
I honestly love the cute little alien cheesecake on the Thunderhawk. I wish we could see more of that in more pro painted work. Flourishes of fun. It's wonderful. Please more like this!
Honestly the windows and the blood angel insignia are pretty good. The alien is ironically kind of fitting for like a ww2 esque stencil. If the engines and gun were leadbelcher or iron hands with some panel liner in the crevices, some highlights and damage it would be a pretty damn good job imo. It could easily be salvaged into a great paint job and I bet she could do it.
Considering all the analogies, I think it's only fair now if Lydia taught the bois how to correctly put their make-up on. Also in the beginning when Ben listed all of Lydia's "qualifications", I was expecting to see her cutting carrots.
I love this video, I love everything about it and I'm saving the members video for my painting session at the weekend. But what Ben said at the end really stuck with me, it doesn't matter at all what the result was, it's just fun to paint with friends ❤
