Yo this is absolutely hype and I’m 30 seconds in, 2nd edition battle rep hype. 👏🏾
Glad to hear! Enjoy 🕷️
The fact all 2nd edition models were used really made this a 10/10!
Actually the landspeeder is 1st edition!
“Armed with a chainsword - and a grim demeanour”
Oh that got me!
Loving the narrative aspect. Really is one of the first things that really hooked me on Warhammer, you set the ground but the story tells itself in front of you as the game moves on. Some of my favorite hobby memories too being pouring over white dwarf battle reports with the more narrative telling. Loved it. Also great to see more Ed! He's a great addition to the team and we're all very welcome to have him!
Totally agree!!
Hugely awesome report and video, love the style and feeling of the older editions and this shows it perfectly.
What a wonderful surprise! 2nd ed was my first edition and Blood Angels were my first army. So excited to watch. Thanks to all at TT :-)
Same here lol
Absolutely one of the most awesome battle reports I’ve seen you folks do. Just amazing - table is just gorgeous and so, so good to see 2nd edition back. My first edition and will always be MY Warhammer 40,000. Thanks so much for sharing, gents!
Eds voice has become the voice in my head reading anything 2nd edition. So pumped for this 🔥🔥
I love how in 2nd edition, you can turn up the intensity of the Melta gun, starting as a flamer, but slowly concentrating into that hissing beam of death. Kind of like the atomic breath scene of Shin Godzilla.
Excellent change of pace to the normal battle reports! More of this would be welcome!
As far as Ed's nickname goes, given his love of the GSC, I thought "The Pembriarch" worked quite well from his last report.
It is absolutely wonderful seeing the same 2nd edition blood angel models I have and love being played with the same enthusiasm and nostalgia I share. Ed is a great addition and really works well with you. Every model and paint job snd rule card is a memory. it is through rose tinted glasses but what glasses they are!
When Ed joined TT I didn't expect that we would have more of his style of 2nd edition battle reports! But I absolutely loved it, what brought minisodes to my attention was the battle for Mcragge narrative report, and I can safely say that it is good to see tyranids and the emperor's finest clash once again!
This was the most fun I had watching a battle report on your channel ever! Great job guys
Absolutley amazing. This is without question my favorite format for bat-rep. So immersive. Love the Dream Team the TT has assembled. Keep making these bat-reps guys they are the best!!!
Agree 100%
I love this narrative format! Could we get some 10th ed reports in this style too?
This was an absolute joy to watch! Maybe my favorite video you've ever done! Off to watch episode two and hope to see more!
I really like this new format. I think one of the downsides is that you lose out on the back and forth banter that really makes you guys so fun to watch but this might be a good way to handle at least the narrative campaigns going forward.
A better idea is to get the players to narratively talk about what their units are doing like the narrator does
God the nostalgia overload. I remember having the same Rhino and all the rails, aerials and exhausts would snap off as soon as you just look at it.
Even cracking out the old White Dwarf arrow animations, let alone the classic 2nd ed miniatures; this is truly a treat. You spoil us, TT.
I think your best battle report to date. 30mins is just about right. The narration added so much excitement and suspense. Love to see 10th edition reports like this.
Also loads more 2nd please. My favourite version of the game by far
Absolutely love this style of battle report. I'm sure it took a lot more time and effort to edit and narrate, but the final result is amazing!
So much memoriers !
This Tyranids army is almost exactly the one I have !
I've been waiting 20 years to dare to paint those magnificent metal minis... now's the time !
Thanks for the hard work and nostalgia mates !
The end was just amazing😮💨. For everyone not sure if they should watch till the end, believe me it is worth it!
Ed = "The Narrator"
I never played 2nd Ed, but this is the kind of narrative game I’d love to be normal again. Such an immersive board, armies and rules.
Same
Seeing these beautifully painted 2nd edition minis is an absolute blast from the past! Only you guys would do this! Thanks for the memories guys!
I think Ed “The Head” Pemburton has quite a nice ring to it
I love this style of video where the story is the main focus and gameplay is secondary. Love you guys and your videos
Certainly, I prefer these narrative battle reports that focus more on the battlefield and the miniatures rather than indulging in trivial and silly conversations between the players
The nostalgia is real with this report, thoroughly entertaining.
What an immersive narrative introduction. Lawrence, you had me at "sergeant armed with a grim demeanor" and "old painless" heavy bolter! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Glad you enjoyed it :) 🕷️
Great video! More second edition in high quality is badly needed on youtube!
When Orks?
Rocket man is a legend
Brilliant to see this Ed style battle report on the channel and the extra effects and everything just made it even better than before. Great stuff.
Nickname: Ed 'Old Skool' Pemberton, sorry Ed, your own fault for doing such amazing 2nd edition content.
Absolutely amazing video, loved the scneario hopefully you do more of these as full length battle reps. Going to see part 2 on demand now!
Easily the best battle report I’ve ever watched. Your ode to 2nd in the intro Lawrence was something I feel to. WD 208 was my first and like you, 2nd will always be 40k to me.
Thank you TTT for doing what you do.
You guys are the biggest chads for playing the best edition ever made
I should be able to hit the like button more than once!!!
Really enjoyed the format of this video guys. Great presentation and perfect commentary. Keep up the good work and hope for more 2nd edition ❤
I love the narrative style on this! Great work! And welcome Ed to such a great team
I really love 2nd Edition and unboxed my old World Eaters Army just to feel the nostalgia.
Kharn, lots of Zerkers, Terminators, the OG Juggerlord, Bikes, Combat Dreads and even my Beastmen and Minotaurs. I think it’s time to find an Oldhammer group. I’m very grateful that you shine a light on older editions. 2nd and 3rd Edition were my childhood and youth.
Thank you so much.
I don't miss second edition rules, I think the 'modern' game of 40k in 8th/9th/10th edition is superior. But I do miss the battle scale of 2nd edition, when what was considered a full game was essentially 20-30 infantry models and a vehicle or three. It was fun, quick to play, you really got a sense of connection to individual models and units and it made for more interesting, intimate narratives.
i really really really like your vintage battle reports! Seeing the exact same old minis like in the White Dwarf back then in 90ies is really exciting! Please keep on!
The jungle is gorgeous, I didn't even notice this was all on a printed mat at first. It's amazing the immersion you can achieve with the right set dressing, the lichen along the riverbank, the scatter blending the edges of the woods to the table mat. Wonderful, all of it.
bro that tactical marine at the end deserves a promotion
Such a fun battle report! Takes me back to high school, and basement, and a group of friends rolling dice and having fun. Cheers!
Just the table alone is giving me goosebumps! Nice job guys!!!
This fills me with a warm, fuzzy feeling that I haven't felt in Warhammer in a long time
This might have been the best TT battle report I've watched. This was SUCH a good format :O
as someone who doesn't know very much at all about the rules, certainly not enough to spot or appreciate the difference between 10th and 2nd ed rules, this was very fun to watch just for the narrative presentation and the scenario. 👌
As someone’s who didn’t start playing until 9th I found this fascinating and great! Really cool to see how the game has evolved.
Omg the old models, especially my boy Tycho, hit me with nostalgia like a train. Amazing!!
Excellent battle report lads. I had a cracking game yesterday with my 2nd ed buddy’s. My blood angels teleported deep into the orks table edge causing utter destruction.
Every time I think of "machine spirit" I think of the parts of Robocop 2 with the computer generated face of the bad guy on the tv screen.
Your foreword nailed it 100% for us 80s kids getting into 40k in the 90s as teens. Many all nighters were had with us just putting all our models on the board and playing till the sun came up. That mountain dew and 40k life.
What a cracking good video! The visual effects really add that something extra to the battle report. Top work ladz!
Great report!! I remember a white dwarf report for a redo of the battle at rorkes drift that i did a retake in 7th edition and was great fun. Some great stuff from back in the day!!
That was absolutely brilliant. It really channeled the energy and style of the old WD battle reports and the joy of it all was super evident. Great work!
My Christmas present will be signing up for the year. This is one of the most enjoyable bat reps in a long time. It brings back many childhood memories and is why I continue to play.
Thank you, TTT
Its 5 months later and I have just discovered this site. Thanks to Lawrence and Ed for this battle report and bringing back the memories of 2nd Ed. 40k. I have been following Ed on his other channel and love the way he paints minitures. Love the your work and the senario.
love the oldschool models, and oldschool paintjobs. loved the battle report, I hope the smiles and excitement in the video were genuine because they surely were shared with many viewers
TT doing 2nd edition 40k! What a time to be alive!
That was great! I loved it. 2nd edition is my all time favourite, along with HH2.0. You got it absolutely right, yes, rose-tinted glasses play a part but also the lack of meta shift and constant rule changes too.
This is outstanding! Love the retro style of the armies and the narrative lean of the game
I went into this 2nd edition battle report not expecting to be that interested, but man, I loved this. The editing and length was perfect for this edition's report.
Wow, I just watched a 2nd ed White Dwarf bat rep come to life, and I’m eternally grateful to you for it. More please!
This video is everything, it’s like I’ve stepped back in time. I remember getting 2nd ed as a Christmas present and it became my life for so long. Now (at 40) I’ve picked my paintbrush up again, thanks so much for reminding me of where it all started. Oh and the white dwarf battle style was brilliant (and also hilarious some times 🤣, the 2nd ed Tyranid codex come to life!)
What a blast! Bravo! The jungle scenery is great - amazing looking table AND armies. Can't wait to watch the next episode!
wow, brilliant battle report. Loved the narrative and objective of the battle. great 30 mins and more like this please!
Used to love those plastic tyranid warriors, Advanced space crusade. You could see their organs behind the ribcage.
This is awesome content! Love the short format as well!
What a great Saturday morning treat. Really fun short sharp video! Great work and Welcome Ed!
Love this! Happy to see more retro reports in the future :)
Fantastic production! Really like the summary style battle report.
Really really awesome battle report. So hard to just watch two guys okay warhammer, but the editing and cinematics and voice overs here make it really watchable! 10/10!
Fantastic!!! 2nd edition is my childhood. Never played the games but loved the vibrant paint jobs and painting the miniatures!! Keep it up guys. Much love from the US
Great to see 2nd edition at such entertaining quality. Thanks!
Awesome guys. Absolutely loved it. Great nostalgia. Missed all the fun chat that comes with a longer battle report…….but I’m greedy
This is the best Battle Report I've ever watched. The narrative is so good!!! Thank you so much!
This is amazing. I started in 3rd edition. It's truly spectacular how far the Tyranid model line has gone in two decades.
Excellent production! LOVE your work, Ed! I would love it if this style was applied to your other narrative battle reports going forwards. Both to clearly distinguish them from your other shows, and to promote the narrative aspect of the game. The way you translate gameplay and dice rolls into storytelling in this battle report, might just be the best way I can think of to promote the hobby!
Also, love the lodge bar!
More please!!! Love 2nd Edition. Would love to see oaks (totally mental in 2nd) and Eldar (Totally Scary in 2nd)
Brilliant content! ❤
The miniatures, the table, the editing; they're all top notch. This report was a true joy to watch; many thanks.
Oh, and that lone tactical marine with missile launcher should have this heroic action represented on him. Like a skull or an iron halo to commemorate his extreme valour/luck... 😉
"The sergeant is armed with a chainsword and a grim demeanor"
You had me at hello.
Very nice format Spider. Keep them coming!
Damn, this battle report is just PERFECT! Surprisingly good paintjob, old minis, interesting lore and funny guys. PERFECT!
I waited entirely too long to get into 40k, those old school nid models are amazing.
This was epic. Like makes me want to get back into the game asap. Also having a beer and rolling dice with The Spider would be grand!
I started with 2nd edition and my words can't describe how much I loved this battle report. I also enjoyed the new presenter. I can't wait to see him in more content.
This battrap was really good! Such nostalgia!
I love all the lore and storytelling you guys come up with. It makes the game feel so much more alive!
I love it! And i really do miss this edition and the times I was playing it.
Really good video guys and thanks for bringing back so many memories ❤❤❤❤
Awesome! Great stuff. Super fun army choices too that really had different feels/strengths and weaknesses
Love this! I started in 3rd but played with tons of 2nd models! Such an awesome blast from the past! Would really like to see more classic Battle reports! Also the narrative and voice over was EPIC!!!
Really enjoyed this! Fantastic format and I love the narrative
this is what 40k is all about for me. dont like the competetive direction the game has taken with 9th and 10th.
Right I feel that way about The Old World. Everyone is obsessed with list meta game it's like bro just make a cool army you love and maybe try to make it good yourself instead of creating this weird meta game obsession. I buy models that are total garbage because I like them and they're thematic lol.
I played as a kid in the late 90s /early 2000s. Haven't touched the game in 20 years, and this was a really great blast of nostalgia. Took me back to homemade terrain on the living room floor 🥹
Nick for Ed: The Doctor - he just has that physician vibe.
After 10 seconds of watching, I was turning into a 10 year old Ultramarines player from 1995… and I absolutely love it! 😍 Thank you guys for bringing a little nostalgic mood to this old Warhammer 40K veteran. May the Emperor always watches over you! 🤘🏼🥹
Man, I love those old edition rule bits that blended the distinction between roleplay game and strategy game...
I also miss templates
I wonder what a 2nd edition game with 7th or 8th edition models would be like
I'm 41 so this hits. Made me really emotional the intro seeing the old models . Thankyou for this
Fantastic match, 97 was around when i first learned about Warhammer but was still a little young for it. But i was in love with it from the start. And the ending of this match was so cinematic!
This was so nostalgic, it was great having all the old school rules, templates, misfires and out of control vehicles!
"2nd ed battle report done with the tabletops tactics quality" was definitely on my wishlist. Cheers this was epic 👍👍
