This was such a huge project, we had no idea what we were taking on when we started. We make two videos a week, and our editor Liam edits two videos a week, for him to have achieved what he did, with his FIRST TIME using VFX or unreal engine 5 is outstanding. This has very much been a hobby labour of love for us, stealing time where we could to make it happen. SO many things went wrong, from Mics dying mid recording, to lost footage - But we've made something really special despite it all. And with your love and support, it could be the start. We learnt more by trying and completing this project than we could have just dreaming about it, and we believe we could tackle the next one quicker, and make it EVEN better. Your support, sharing the video, liking, subscribing or even joining our Discord or Patreon will let us know this is worth the effort and commitment. Thank you all so much, this is a fan project, a project of love, and we hope you felt the fun we had making it!
I thought I recognised Kris.
I’d love to see debrief/behind the scenes video on this. Talking about what worked what didn’t, what you would and wouldn’t do if you decided to do another video like this. How much of the work can be reused in a future video vs how much would have to be redone every single time. That kind of stuff.
THE BUGS NEEDED THE NORM OR IS THAT NEXT TIME
Hey, if you guys want some voice acting for a battle report like this again and want some voices, I’d love to record some lines. Been itching to use my voice and contribute to the hobby!
Loved the Warcraft III vibes from the voiceovers and the avatars, good work everyone involved!
Y E S. EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR. Ever since the bears vs the Tau I've been waiting for more. These are so so much more interesting than other battle reports.
Aaahhhh!!!! Hahahah. Awesome!!! Nice to finally see the Space Bears on TT. I Remember watching his vids on making the Bears. *sits back and enjoys*
finally a battle report that portrays how I envision every game in my head lol
Crash landing in the beginning is a gem
Good lord, what an awesome and unique take on a battle report!
I enjoyed the flamer effects and the plasma/laser/scream killer shot visuals and sounds the most. The blood splatter effects were slightly to big imo.
It's a bit wierd to see the beautiful tabletop stuff digitalized to be honest. I dont know how to feel about it. It has a whole other vibe (more like old warcraft or something), it doesnt hit my taste fully, but I like to see more of it to change my mind. I just really like the "real thing". Nonetheless, great work from everybody! I'm sure if you get it to a point that I will start loving it!
Wow this is great! Nice work!
Nice work Liam : )
This format is way more entertaining than traditional Battle Reports.
Lol pull a BG3 and set this for a new standard for battle reports?
This is sick tho
I can’t agree enough! The story elements is way more entertaining than just the dry game play.
Yeah, this is amazing! I don't play WH (other wargames) but the quality, animation, and story absolutely drew me in. If this is a one time thing, it's awesome, but I hope that they do it more!!!
The difference is not big enough. I think its pretty regular and the dice rolling is missing badly
WTF this is so amazing and Liam has created an amazing visual experience. Can’t believe what I just watched it’s so professional and wow the voices! Well done David and Murray and crew. 👏🏻👏🏻
Amazing production values on this! It's a shame not to see some of the cool new Kickstarter minis in action on the tabletop here, but I'm sure that's for the purposes of keeping everything nice and legally distinct. 😉 Congratulations again on a very successful campaign, and I'm looking forward to printing and painting some Space Bears in the very near future!
Itsss mostly because we filmed this in July
THEY DID THE THING
HOLY SHIT THEY DID IT!
THEY DID DO THE THING
It happened!!
YES THEY DID THE THING
THE THING IS DONE!!!
Wow what a momentous task it must have been to put this all together! Great work TTT! The scans of the miniatures looked great and the animation was fantastic! Well done!
After watching it all, I would love to see maybe middleground between this and the bear/sakura tau fight. It was fun to watch this, but you do not need to go full 3D, when you already have minies and everything. Maybe save it for some special shots?
Just wanted to say when the screamer killer hit the squad with the wounded character it does not allocate wounds to the character. In the core rules it says even if a character has received damage previously any damage must be allocated to the bodyguard unit
Wow didn't know that! We did record this JUST after 10th had dropped. Just assumed the wounded models rules hadnt changed! Thanks
Yep, seems about right. I played about 10 campaign games with tyranids and every game against space marines I was completely wrecked by their shooting. Their tanks are so good and the nids really have no answer to it. I kind of felt bad for Murray but I was glad you included a homebrew rule that he got to bring back destroyed units. It probably wouldn't have been as entertaining a battle report if he had been tabled turn 2.
Please keep up the visuals and the voice acting for these reports. I get bored so quickly watching people do battle reports but this report keeps me interested through the whole thing with the amazing visuals and narration! Great work!
It’s great to see this, but I have to say that my FAVORITE PART is Kris’s voiceovers as well as the additions of all the Ojibwemowin language. You have my scrambling for my dictionary, and I’m SO EXCITED to incorporate these terms into my new Space Bears army. You did a lot of the work for me of converting their names/titles/types into Ojibwemowin. I excitedly grabbed my 10yr old and told him that not only do we get a new awesome army to print and paint, but it connects to one of my favorite ancestors’ cultures. Thank you for leaning in so hard to the respect for the culture on which this is based. It’s very special!
Haha Daves reaction to the repulsor profile 😂
It had even more profiles in 8th/9th so I never used it, couldn’t kept track of what I was shooting at lol
Genuinely I hated it. Too many guns. Too pushed. Insanity. I come from Chaos, ill fire my predators twin linked lascannon and two lascannons. ok 3 dice. Roll. Wiff. Done. Ez
@@TabletopTime space marine tanks are incredibly powerful in 10th edition. One of may main criticisms of it is that they can get a really fast floating tank with a ridiculous ammount of guns for around 150 points. Tyranids have nothing that can compete with that.
Love the narrative animations. Makes it way less boring than some other battle reports
The Dread was such an awesome character, definitely my favourite. This style of battle is my favourite now 😅
This Battle Report was surprisingly law-accurate. Not that many Space Marines Died. Also, love the narrative and cinematics of this video. Wonder what the battle of the broken church would be like next time. Please let Chaos win.
"I will bring you as close as I can" Proceeds to crash in the middle of the battlefield. Task Failed Successfuly
Love the battle report
Was a very cool battle and the cinematic effects are nice, but for me there is a lack of lisibility about whats really happen on the table.
Thankyou for the feedback!
@@TabletopTime My pleasure =) thanks for all your amazing work
This is very well done, but I've got to be honest: I'd much rather you put out more battle reports than 1 really heavily edited one twice a year. It's just such a long production time for these that I find myself unable to get excited for them.
The only criticism I have is that not seeing the dice rolls feels like there's a big hole missing in the report.
Outside of that I absolutely love what you've done here
That's pretty sweet - i would've liked to have seen the dice rolls, but small criticism in the scheme of things.
Great stuff. :)
I think quite the opposite - hiding this entire long and boring process of superfluous dice rolling off screen gave a nice illusion that WH40K is a fast flowing, player decision oriented game, not a tedious chore of passively watching random numbers being generated for hours on end ;)
@@robertchmielecki2580 fair point, it probably would add an extra 5-10 seconds per roll to have that on screen, and it does add up.
would love to see the rolls too in a second, smaller window.
I love all the models used, I can see Jaza's original squad, the fully 3D printed models and PeteTheWargamer's Squad.
This is one of the most cinematic and epic battle reports that I have ever seen! And what's better is that we were able to see the entire project start to finish!
Well done, Tabletop Time and Jazza!
I really hope more people notice this video. This is insanely well crafted, and to see it lost to the algorithm would be an absolute tragedy.
Maybe it's personal preference, but I think I prefer slick camerawork of the actual models over a CG re-enactment.
One must admit that this is another lv doing battle reports - well done! I hope to see more of this in the future
I really dig the animations in this Battle Report! Is this the future of Batreps?
One of the most entertaining battle reports ever made in wargaming youtube history! SOOO awesome! 🤩
This was so well done. Obviously this took so much work but man was it worth it. Never seen a story integrated so well in battle. The pacing was great too.
Ive been waiting since 30k glad to see this now back to 40k
P.s love you guyz hope you keep going
Fantastic way to do your battle reports! And so glad to see a game with the bears!
Please do more of these! I dont care if you only release 1 every 3 months lol. The quality of these are amazing and the story telling is head and shoulders above any other battle report out there.
Oshkaabeewis is my favorite part of the game
You did a fantastic job with this.
However, to be honest, I preferred the style we saw in the Kill Team match. I found the 3d presentation of the match itself a bit off-putting.
Possibly because I am a sucker for beautiful terrain boards and I really love looking at that old Kill Team snow board in use.
I feel like the first battle report between the Tau and the space Marines was perfect. This one was over produced and hard to follow, the other battle report had a better balance of visual with gaming.
We've definitely considered this, it will be interesting to see from all feedback what people prefer, and where we settle on 'the right approach' Thanks for the feedback!
@@TabletopTimeme personally, I loved the more narrative and visual story! There are plenty of rules and more gaming based report channels out there, I feel this is an immersive and fun way to experience a game even if it’s not as easy to follow rules wise
@@TabletopTime Murry and Dave excellent battle report. To the entire TTT team, great work all around. I have a few thoughts in regards to this.
I think that one way that you can bring the gaming side back into balance would be to have a camera that shows you rolling your dice. I never really considered how important it was in keeping a game coherent when watching games like 40K in 40Min but it really does help keep the connection between the actions you are taking, the role chance plays and what happens on the board. For this reason I think it is really important to show the roles, especially if they are critical failures or successes.
I think what we also need are more angles to see what is happening around the board itself. I understand why you would go for the landscape shots due to how parts of the board are designed (and that extra cameras are expensive) but just one or two other angels that you can switch between while editing may really help. I kinda feel like you may have realised this in editing because of the awkward use of the top down shots in some cases. The 3D elements are great and I love the work you all have put into it but I think they are best used as you have been using them, to get close up right in the thick of the battle.
I noticed that in between turns it can be a bit awkward where someone has to stand there doing nothing. Perhaps using either closeups or having players stand at either side of the board so you can jump cut between the two. What you did in your first battle report was a perfect example of this working well.
I think overall your greatest strengths are not just the 3D elements which definitely set you apart from other Battle report YT Channels, but more importantly your amazing miniature work. That's not even mentioning your brilliant boards seeing that this is the only time we really get to dwell on them in all their glory.
Also, don't be afraid to show yourselves moving the pieces from time to time or pointing across the board. Don't feel like you have to edit these parts out because like the dice roles, it is directly showing the audience the connections between your decisions and what happens on the board.
One thing I hope you never stop doing are the RTS styled voice lines with the custom art for the characters, it really is such a neat tough and makes the back and forth of the battle all the more engaging. The voice actors did an excellent job, do keep it up.
I hope this doesn't come off as too critical because if anything I loved and want to see more of it. I have been looking forward to your next Battle Report since the first one came out and the entire TTT team has not disappointed.
I can't wait to see what you guys do next for your battle report.
@@TabletopTime somewhere in the middle between the minimal editing in the first and the excessive green Tarantino explosions of this one
like, the shot of the space marines opening fire with their flamers from behind and the terminator squad arriving where amazing but any time there was a tyrranid taking damage the entire screen lights up in that flashing green explosion, I think with these effects toned down it would be easier to tell what is going on and be more visually appealing, plus it does a good job blocking our view of your models, which are beautifully painted and recreated in a 3d model
I also think the wider environmental shots where beautiful and the scene lighting really brings the board to life
This battle report format is insane. Can't fathom the work that went into putting it together. Great job TTT team!
Fuck yes ive been so hyped for this
Jazza I was looking at the forge world Rogal Dorn and you have the same haircut
Very much reminds me of the battles in TTS, the way the narration is done and the fact the characters are actually characterized
yeah this slaps. I grew up in Oklahoma adjacent to tribal land. I won't speak to the accuracy of the space beat depictions, but I would say that their depictions are rooted in love and respect for the culture they represent. It's great to see representation like this.
Holy shit I’m at my Grandma’s place not in Australia to watch this Fuck!
It's a (almost) Christmas miracle!
IS THAT WARGAMER KRIS DOING THE NARRATION?! HOLY BALLS!
Top drawer video guys, cinematics are great. Would love to see a rematch with a Nid army evolved beyond the Leviathan box to some of the heavy hitters.
This is incredible. Loved how cinematic it was and such a fun watch. Please please please !!! Do more like this
I am so confused but I couldn't stop watching
Love the cinematics! Could we expect any of the new units (Trackers, Cubs, Biker-Bears) from the kickstarter in the near future? I'm super excited!
Doesnt servo skulls gove points when the objectives are next to the OPPONENTS deployment?
As we mentioned in the intro, we changed the mission to be more thematic to our narrative
Intro is a nice flex. Did you mad people 3d scan all the minis and terrain? Wow!
Amazing that you were able to translate the psychic impulses and intentions of the tyranids into discernible language.
That was a fantastic vid! Thanks heaps gang. I really love the cinematics and the focus on what happened as opposed to seeing lots of dice rolling around. I actually felt invested in what was happening thematically rather than just abstractly crunching numbers for results! Top Job! =D ---- Oh and Liam? knocked it for a six my man! You got this unreal engine thing!
Love the effects, adds a lot to the overall polish of the video. Appreciate the Starcraft/old school RTS voice over stuff. I get it, I understand what you are doing and respect it. It's not my thing, but props for the commitment.
liam you are awesome! can wait to see your unreal engine journey! also murray... burn those cursed dice. Thank you for putting so much work onto this, can't wait to see the sisters battle report
I have to complement the whole crew for such an amazing battle report! The pacing was great, the story pieces were engaging and just all the VFX/video work were fantastic!
Insanely impressive production. Really raising the bar for what a visual battle report can do.
I think you should include the dice tray Next time wich makes folowing the Report easyer
This was AWESOME!!! I'm always waiting for your videos but this is one of my favourites. A crown jewel in Space Bear saga and a great battle report. I loved the voiceovers and you could feel the chemistry between characters. Keep up your awsome work and I hpe for more narrative battle reports.
Review of Battle Reports to date.
Heaven vs Hell. Simple game, “home-made” feel rather than high production value giving it more of a feel of accessibility and “hey, I could do that.” While it wasn’t any brand of Warhammer, it’s a great setup, and the lack of needing to refer to rules made keeping the pace a lot easier. Jazza’s “Dave, that’s not the attitude to take” towards the end is absolutely perfect.
Production Quality: 2/ 5.
Story: 3/ 5.
Entertainment: 4/ 5.
Overall: Simplicity leading to accessible fun without the needs for fancy stuff.
Orruks vs Stormcast 3rd Edition. A fun game with more objectives than just “kill everything.” It does set the stage of Jazza as the enthusiastic newcomer who is just enjoying himself (which is a perfect attitude to demonstrate for anyone who might be new to the game).
Production Quality: 3/ 5.
Story: 4/ 5.
Entertainment: 4/ 5.
Overall: Showing a full game in a standard ruleset rather than something homebrewed.
Space Bears vs Sakura. I favour the sci-fi end of things, and I do like the small squad stuff rather than trying to manage a huge army, so for “the game that I would like to play” this is probably the battle report that gets my attention the most. The production value has jumped up a notch, with what would become the Insert Art side of things showing their hand, plus the in character commentaries and better graphics. Honestly, I’d prefer more Kill Team scale battle reports, but I have a feeling that production-wise they aren’t actually that different from the bigger battles, they’d just be simpler to set up and possibly faster to play through.
Production Quality: 5/ 5.
Story: 5/ 5.
Entertainment: 5/ 5.
Overall: Probably my overall favourite.
Orruks vs Stormcast. Keeping the same production quality as the Kill Team game, but jumping the scale of the battle to a full army (with a corresponding increase in the number of voices, etc, required). This was probably the first battle report that I watched, so the standard of the others may be being judged from there. It’s the longest one, and well worth it.
Production Quality: 5/ 5.
Story: 5/ 5.
Entertainment: 5/ 5.
Overall: Very fun. A very close second place.
Space Bears vs Tyranids. Mixed feelings here… On the one hand the use of the CGI gameboard and special effects added a degree of spectacle to the whole thing that was a step up from the previous ones (as noted, there's only so much you can do with cameras on a real board); on the other hand it was very clearly a (skilled) beginner effort (with the way things were moving in straight lines rather than following terrain or being 'lifted' into place and similar stuff suggesting a lack of familiarity or a rushed production). Likewise, replacing Jazza with Murray gave a more matched game with someone who knew the rules playing against Dave, but… Murray isn’t Jazza; the enthusiasm, chaos, and sheer having fun that Jazza brings felt like it was missing to some degree.
Production Quality: 4/ 5. The improvements were a significant first step towards the ‘next level’ rather than actually reaching that level properly (as was admitted), and not reaching it felt like it detracted overall where it broke immersion or stuff stood out.
Story: 5/ 5. Continuity from the Kill Team and roleplaying games was good.
Entertainment: 4/ 5. Very good, it just felt something was lacking compared to previous ones.
Overall: A step towards improving things in some places, and unfortunately a step back in others where it feels like it's pushing the skills of the team further than it should have for this project. It was good, and definitely worth (re)watching.
Collected thoughts for the next battle report.
1. Keep Jazza involved. Nothing against Dave and Murray playing (or any of the other stuff that they do), Jazza is just better at being fun in front of a camera (I say this as someone who can talk technical but isn’t great in front of people, and has worked with teams where having someone to be good in front of people has made a big difference).
2. Maybe look at some of the rules for three- or four-player games (I know there were rules for W40K allowing each player to control half of the points from an army, and the armies being mixed based on certain rules). I haven't been able to find anything of Jen's Soritas being played, so that could be interesting to have in a four player alliances game.
3. Not being sure about the production cycle in the background, I can’t be sure whether giving a Kill Team game the same CGI treatment as Space Bears vs Tyranids would be easier or harder. Video showing the full production cycle (rather than individual highlights of key segments as was shown) would be fun; a longer video (rather than a production vlog) would be good to see here. Possibly comparing the CGI vs previous styles as well…
4. Personal preference here: the larger still/ digital images from the Space Bears vs Sakura and the second Orruks vs Stormcast games were missing from the Space Bears vs Tyranids. Portraits were still there, but not the bigger images, and the CGI in place of those bigger images (with stuff being stuck in the same pose) didn’t feel like it had the same impact. Cinematically very good, just… Lacking in places.
5. Minor point if there is going to be a epic montage at the end: dig out more sound effects, because the repetition of some of them (similarly to the ghosting through terrain when pieces were moving) was standing out.
6. Definitely do one.
Amazing video, absolutely love your Tyranid scheme. Keep up the good work! (Sorry for the late comment, this just came up on my TH-cam feed lol!)
You guys know what you just did? You just raised the stakes!
Now, EVERYONE is gonna be expecting this quality from you guys. And I'll bet that the other channels will have to copying this!
Absolutely stunning! This was definitely worth the wait.
Would have been funny if the Tyranids voice lines was just screaming ...
The drama of the dreadnought getting revenge for the younger Apothecary was awesome, I just wish Murray's tyrannids didn't get SUCH a sorry end of the stick with the games balance ;-;
The effects all looked genuinely great and appealing, awesome work!
Copyright strike incoming. Not because it is warranted, just because GW won’t be able to provide such a batrep on Warhammer TV 😅
Amazing, thank you for sharing!
How did we get blessed with such a well executed and cinematic battle report!? This is exactly what I want to see out of play like this! Making our imagination come to life!
Your Space Bears HQ is giving me some ideas for my Bane marines bunker design. Lore wise their Homeworld Arronax was a major battle ground during the Heresy. Midway it was bombed to oblivion so whoever could was rushed to heavy bunkers
For the reinforcements to prevent wackamole like that, you could have had like 3 different potential spawn points. And he rolls A1D3 to see where he gets. The reinforcements from would have given it a more. They're coming from everywhere. Feel just a thought.
This is just outstanding!! SO WORTH the wait! i'm now so looking forward to seeing some traitor guard child soldiers fighting, by God
You guys did that on unreal 5? Dude. That’s… that’s incredible. What a gigantic next step for battle reports. Thank you for this!
Better than 40k for 40 mins! Just need to up mic quality and and it will be 10/10! Love your work
Thank you !
I felt like I'd heard the Tyranid voice before and realised it reminds me so much of Todd the Wraith from Stargate Atlantis. Great production value as always!
Amazing work I’m soooo excited to see more and I may be saying this early but I’d love for Jen to get a custom army to include in the campaign! Maybe sisters???
Loved this video. Hate that these might be a dime a dozen due to the high production value and quality, but I’d be okay with a lower budget just for fun games between yall. Maybe even on a separate channel.
Guy - I absolutely loved this! I won’t be able to watch a battle report without effects and narrative again! Awesome job
What a beautiful intro and pre-battle model review! Wow, this is really extremely well done, lads. Such a pleasure to watch.
Thanks for making this. We all are very happy to watch these reports in all their glory.
If the Warhammer+ Battle Reports were anything like this I would get it. Good job guys!
Me and a friend split a couple of leviathan boxes, he built the bugs and I built my marines as space wolves
Now im feeling genuine hype for finishing my army
Though the character suffered the precision wound earlier, you do not need to apply wounds to him in future combats. Great episode, loved it!
Space bears WIN!?
Clearly rigged.
Good game, love the cinematic editing
Its so cool, i liked it a lot, i got a hard time following the lore and gameplay at the same time, voice lines cutting each other.
I like more unzoomed camera in the 3D world ^^, or with a memorable piece of terrain in view to know where the action take place it was hard sometimes to know where it was on the board. Some VFX was to bright so was hard to see what happened.
But in general that was epic with all the in engine view SOOO COOOL !!
Freaken amazing, it's wild WH+ wants you to pay for something less Crafted!
What is this quality?!?!?! Soooo cool, immersive and entertaining! Love it all❤
Goddamn this is the first ever battle report that i have ever watched from start to finish! Amazing! What software was used to recreate the battlefield? This was such an engaging battle report to watch! Have never seen this format before
I also made a battle report in davinci resolve, so can confirm it's an amazing program for editing. Sadly, I struggled to actually film so it's just 1 activation from a game.
In one of these you should 100% have a thrid party join the fight, just an awakening necron tomb or a chaos rift opening
That was so much fun to watch! The only critique I have is that the objectives weren't super clear at the start of the game, either a way to highlight or directly point out those objectives and what they mean would be awesome!
How are you getting these camera movements. Amazing cinematography!
Oh it’s a 3d environment. Holy hell
Yep, we 3D scanned... well everything, then recreated the batrep in unreal 5. And by we I mean Liam our editor. It was his first time, he'd never done any of it before. He did good.
Very cool battle report!! Maybe a few more full top-down perspective shots, it was hard to track the entire battlefield at times.
As m7ch as I loved this battle report I can't help feel there was no way they were going to ket the Space Bears lose. Soke decisions on the Nid side didn't really make sense and some abilities weren't mentioned etc
It is not Jötunn. It is Jotun. We do have the letter O in Sweden. Just because we sometime remove the dots to better work with anglophones, does not mean we always do it.
Hey guys the new format is great, I would like to see the explanation of the outcome before the dice roll then see the roll. Looking hot
I would love to get a behind the scenes or making-of video where you guys talk about the process and talk up your team
