Hi from the UK! Finally building my rig with triple 48" OLEDs. I only had the confidence to do this thanks to your other vid explaining sizes. We don't have Tony Kanaan gear in the UK, but Race Anywhere sell a similar oversized center-bar that allows 48". I'm doing freestanding, and that was hard work - it made me realise what an insane accomplishment you did by attaching them to a motion rig. You are an innovator sir! Hope to see you back online soon.
Yeah, what he needs to do is plug all of his gear, every last piece into the same circuit and then also put a ground screw into the aluminum of the rig that is also grounded with the rest of the equipment.
6:32 VR is definitely worth a try if you can. The Bigscreen Beyond is a perfect fit for a motion rig since there's way less weight to shake around and ruin the immersion/lens sweet spot. Mark Kovalcson goes over it with a few videos on his channel, he's also got a baller motion rig like you.
I am a VR motion user, and I absolutely love it! No messing with button boxes, or additional monitors etc. Its a smaller profile overall, and I feel way more immersed in VR with motion. I currently run a G2, but have preordered the Big Screen Beyond, as for a motion sim racer I feel this is going to be the Gold standard. I am really considering the Tension-R for my next big upgrade. I currently run 3DOF so I'm not utilizing Surge or TL, so I feel the Tension-R will give me that extra bit of immersion I'm looking for.
Belt tensioner would be awesome for your set up. I’m definitely planning to switch to VR soon. Supposedly valve has their new headset on the way soon but it’s valve we’re talking about so I’m not holding my breath lol
Let me know about the difference to the Reverb G2. Similar setup as you and I love it. However with motion a smaller headset is less shaky. However I fear sweat could be an issue with fully sealed goggles and also 72Hz is very little. With the G2 it feels remarjably different when I drop beneath 80Hz
@@sergej_mutlich3244 The BSB will have a 90hz option with upscaling which I was told looks pretty good so nothing to worry about there. I'll hopefully have my BSB at the end of Nov / Dec.
Rig looks great in black I suggest to start fixing up the room for your immersion while driving. Hue lighting systems and blacked out ceilings for example
I really appreciate this type of content where you're covering issues that you have had with your rig. It's helpful for me. The thing I dig the most about this episode is to see you using the TensionR without the additional mounting apparatus! PT actuator sells this new mounting apparatus, but it can obviously also be fabricated. I was going to fabricate one myself but it seems you are able to use the TensionR mounted directly to the rig without an issue? I would so much rather not have to fabricate or buy a mount. Also, I may have made a big mistake by not buying the same monitors that you have and recommend. They're no longer in stock on Amazon. I can only find them elsewhere and they are priced crazy high. Amazon was selling them for well under $1,000. I should have jumped on it. I believe they're discontinued. Maybe they'll be something similar released soon; a high refresh 48" OLED with thin bezels. But not too expensive. Hopefully the universe is listening to my needs. I am considering doing what you mentioned in this episode, just ditching monitors all together, and going with the Pimax Crystal. 🤔 This is not good for live streaming content, but I was planning on not doing live streaming content anyway, rather doing creative race edits with sock puppet commentary that would be produced to be more interesting and engaging rather than a potentially boring sim race stream. But giving up monitors is a big deal for other reasons. I'm not sure that I want to be stuck with VR only. Nice to see another episode brother man. The very first episodes of my channel will be my building my rig, the same one that you have. I use your channel as inspiration and for education. Serious man points for fixing that USB port on the PCB. 👊🏻
Honestly the VR route might not be a bad idea. Tried the rig without the monitors mounted and noticed a huge difference. I have the same issues regarding content creation and vr but realistically I don’t do a lot of livestreams either. Will talk about it more in a future video. 👍
Belt tensioner works fine without the tower and I much prefer it. Just gotta watch out for the usb port. Look into the lg 48 oled ultra gear monitors if you still plan on doing triples. Thanks for the support as always!
I have big trouble with LAN dropouts when using the motion actuators. All USB cables have Ferrites. What else can I do? Do the power cables of the motion rig also need ferrites?
My VR use to 'grey out' any time I turned my motion on. Once I added screens to my servo power cables the issue stopped. I also added power line fillers. Never had a LAN issue but it is possible depending on how your house wiring was installed. Search for videos on line that go into great detail about EMI issues for more information.
For the color I would say keep it black as it allows the rig to blend into your peripheral view and not fight for you attention. is very easy to get caught up wanting to have grand colors for the rig but when your driving that last thing your thinking of is the color of my rig pops. However if you go want variety from just solid black I would say choose a livery for a team that is very dear to you as it will help remove buyers remorse as you would have chosen for sentiment reasons over aesthetical reasons. Looks Amazing so far.
Yea that’s my main thought for keeping it black as well. Part of me just wants to make it more of a show piece for the fun of it and go after every detail.
Interesting video thank you for Sharing. I'm going to add 3DOF pt Actuators champion to my rig.. just deciding how to mount my 32 triples... definitely freestanding but I currently have them hovering over my wheel base extension but I'm just curious as to how much space I need to leave for motion so I don't smash my monitors
Hey bud. How far are your eyes from your 48” screens? Trying to decide if going to 48’s will be worth it for me? My current 32’s are 25” from eyes. And I think I have it worked out that 48’s would be about 35-36” from eyes by the time I put the screens behind my wheel base. In your experience is what your seeing still bigger than a set of 32’s up close? Thanks bud. 😊
I'd like to know this as well. Purchasing a shorter DD wheelbase may be better for 48". Also, is it possible to go with 42-43" with a shorter wheelbase and still have the same level of immersion as 32's? I don't like being crowded by monitors.
VR will make you appreciate motion even more. Just plan on playing 10-15 mins a day for the first month to get over the motion sickness, but once you’re comfortable, you won’t go back.
hiya i am in the middle of designing a 6dof system using the 300mm PT actuators as thier rigs dont allow 300s to be used as they stand, as actuator feet cant move enough (this is a headache in of itself but figured out a sliding foot system to allow it to achieve the aggressive angles). and like you i am planning on mounting monitors to the rig the same, hence i was planning on getting the scorpions for more power, what i am wondering is do you consider thier actuators as worth the money, and general quality overall is it good or not?
For braking, maybe you should try to set your rig to move backwards (as in real life), in association with your belt tensioner it should give you a good informative feel. Good luck with the remaining issues ;)
What happens in my experience is when you make things sooooo complicated it becomes something uou have to constantly update and maintain and then in my case I end up not racing to avoid the hassle. So now I’m back to just my cockpit with triples and a stream deck. Period.
what power setting did you change to fix the issue you first mentioned. my rig is doing the same, its freezing and stuttering within the first couple of minutes of my practice and races.
Windows Device Manager; go to each usb shown (you can’t do this universally) and in the sub settings for each usb you turn off the windows “feature” to save power. It’s ridiculous that windows has this on when it messes with usb peripherals and usb hubs interrupting their signal to games.
Hey mate, how it's going, hope everthing is well! I'm planning to get Triple Samsung 55" OLED 4K 55S90C 2023 0.1ms 144hz (4k) 120hz (2k) what u think? love your videos

I use a Varjo Aero with a motion rig like this one and I have no issues with my HMD staying put.
How about sweat beneath Bigscreen headset in simracing? I suppose it could be quite foggy on these lens?

This rig is crazy. Im at the start of building mine, want to go 48" triple myslef.
Ferrite’s is your answer. You’ve got EMI emitting from the actuators causing a ground loop.
It’s a very well known issue with this motion setup.
Depends if your servo power cables are screened.. I had to add screens to mine.
I have big trouble with LAN dropouts when using the motion actuators. All USB cables have Ferrites. What else can I do? Do the power cables of the motion rig also need ferrites?

well, this confirms that my basic seat and frame rig is good enough for me. more racing, less fiddling

Where you at mate? Haven't seen you post in a couple months. Hope all is well with yourself.
The color of the rig is nice as it is. What you are lacking is the contrast between rig and background. How about a shiny red carpet?
