  • Civil Engineer Reacts: Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3
    In this video, we will talk about the ongoing construction of the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3. Recently, a steel girder fell from the ongoing construction. We will not be tackling about the technical aspect of the accident but we will talk about the common possible reasons why these types of accidents happen.
    For those who are new in this channel, my name is Maru Rico, a Filipino Civil Engineer based in California, USA.

    ung crane accident hindi sa stage 3 ng skyway nangyari kundi sa south extension sa muntinlupa. ang dahilan ng pag bagsak ng girder dahil sa mabigat na counterweight ng crawler crane masyado tinaas ung boom halos 85 degrees kaya naging unbalance ung crane kaya nagtilt at sumayad ung boom niya sa girder na hindi pa naka bolt-on sa pier cap. ung sa haba ng skyway as of now nasa 45km na siya hindi pa kasali ung extension sa south at ung proposed extension sa north papuntang bulacan airport.

      So kung pagbabasehan po yung statement nyo lumalabas na kanino yung liability?

    • @femdionisio4691
      @femdionisio4691 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@deadringer2349 Kung pagbabasehan ang explanation ni Engr. Maru, yung operator at employer nya ang liable dahil hindi pa sya well-trained to do that job.. Ang ipinagtataka ko, bakit pwedeng dumaan ang mga tao at sasakyan sa part na yun na under construction. So liable din dapat ang namamahala sa project.

    • @deadringer2349

      @@femdionisio4691 nako. Mukhang maramiraming sisihan to. Pero malamang out-of-court settlement na lang ang mangyayari.

    • @dennisquicksign157
      @dennisquicksign157 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@femdionisio4691 open na ung traffic sa public since nakakabit na ung girder more than a week na, at ung crane naka park lang doon sa ilalim between 2 girders na nakaextend ung boom at naka pivot perpendicular sa crawler niya, para malipat ung crane kailangan ibaba ung boom. habang nireretract ung telescopic boom na naka 85 degrees nagiging unbalance ung crane dahil sa mabigat na counterweight. in my opinion ung crane operator ang liable since siya lang may kabisado ng equipment niya at alam niya na walang out trigger ang mga crawler crane pero dahil sa chain of command damay na hangang sa main contractor.

    The Metro Manila Skyway is an elevated expressway located in Metro Manila. It composes of different stages that were built through the years. Skyway Stage 1 (Buendia, Makati, to Bicutan, Parañaque) opened in 1999, Skyway Stage 2 (Bicutan, Parañaque to Alabang, Muntinlupa) opened in 2010, Skyway Stage 3 (Buendia, Makati to NLEX Balintawak) which is expected to open its doors to the public this month (December 2020), Skyway Stage 4 or the South East Metro Manila Expressway which will link FTI in Taguig to the Batasan Pambasa Complex in Quezon City.
    Skyway Stage 1 and 2 is about 16 kilometers long, and Skyway Stage 3 is about 18 Kilometers long. Once Skyway Stage 3 opens to the public, smooth driving and travelling experience from North to South (and vice versa) will be easy and hassle-free from heavy traffic, travel time will be reduced from 2 hours to just 15-20 minutes.

    The entire 17.93-kilometer (km) stretch of the Skyway Stage 3 project, which links North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), is finally complete, but the public will have to wait a little while more for its official opening.

    Beams are usually designed for static loads while girders are for dynamic/rolling loads. In terms of load path in general, beams transfer loads to girders. Girders are bigger in size because of longer span and capacity.

    Brader eto based sa experience ko, Girder pag both ends nakapatong sa support to support (column, corewall or shearwall), whereas pag Beam nman pag naka terminate lang sa girder or pag yung isang end nakapatong sa girder/beam then yung isang end nman sa poste.. pag both ends nakapatong sa columns/shearwall/corewall regardless sa size, Girder tawag dun..

    Hi again, for the construction of asphalt, there will be no subbase for bridge decks since the concrete decking is already acting as the support. For a pavement which is a slab on grade, there is a need for aggregates subbase to act as drainage for the water. You are correct with the reduction of noise however asphalt don't have smooth surfaces and it is actually prevented. Asphalt surfaces should have an estimated roughness of 4-6 m/km depending on the type of road.
    Asphalt pavements are composed of the asphalt layer, subbase and subgrade for slab on grades but for bridge decks, it will just be asphalt, and then the deck. The asphalt layer however is still divided into layers of asphalt such as surface, binder and base layers. Asphalt actually don't act as waterproofing since it is permeable to certain extent. It is used in bridges to act as a protection to the decking. Typically waterproofing should be used on bridge decks unless the asphalt mixture used acts as a waterproofing meaning zero air voids. However again, in this case, zero air void asphalt mixtures will be more prone to rutting than cracking.

    Hi, regarding Skyway Stage-3, not all parts of Skyway Stage-3 are Sosrobahu Pier Cap. Many of it's parts are Precast Type Pier Caps especially in Balintawak Section and the San Juan River Section. There are even cast - in - place pier caps at some sections. Only the portion of Osmeña Highway, and portion of Araneta Avenue used Sosrobahu System.

    Nalilito yata si Eng between Skyway Stage 3 at yung aksidente na nangyari sa Skyway extension. Credible kaya ang mga impormasyon ni Eng kung di niya ma distinguish yung subject matter?

    Magkaiba po ang asphalt pavement sa Asphalt overlay sa ibabaw ng concrete deck. Wala ng subgrade ang asphalt overlay. Ang sinasabi nio pong Asphalt surface ay nahahati din sa Base course at Wearing course. Yun po an standard.

    • @calebvillar9930
      @calebvillar9930 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OM-tu7ei according to the latest updates for now, there will be an extra lane at the center of the road instead of a median. Kung mapapansin mo sa existing skyway ngayon, tinatanggal na nila yung median to cater motorists northbound or southbound to handle the traffic flow. You can observe this at the NAIAX which they used a movable barrier and it will be the same for this road. 🙂

    Asphalt is always a must on highspeed roads or highways for safety. (better grip/traction for breaking and to minimize the skidding.

      Para sa banking yan ng sasakyan, mas may control ang sasakyan Kung may superelevation Lalo na Kung relatively high speeds. Ung Mababa na part ang nasa inside ng turn at ang mataas na part naman ang nasa outside of the turn. Alam mo yung feeling na nadadala ka kapag nasa van ka na Mabilis na lumiliko sa isang kurbada. Yun yon.
