It is now December 7, 2019. 10:50 pm. Location: Ningbo, China. Prediction: I am the only person in this country of 1.3 billion currently listening to this totally badass song from one of the most underrated bands ever.
I still have my original album in pristine condition- love it. Budgie are up with the best but did not get fame they deserved. Years later also got into Rush, sure it was due to listening to Burke Shelley’s voice.
Alan Sweeney absolutely ... also Western Australian and this band were my band in the 70s. Just awesome ... great to hear this song again after all these years
Burke Shelley is from Cardiff I used to sit next to his sister in school. I always fancied her but she never gave me a second glance can't say I blame her though lol. I had every album they made and saw them a few times.
This was the first song I ever heard with Budgie, and I remember I thought the singers voice was a bit peculiar, but the more I listened the more I liked it. Now I'm stuck for life.
Totally agree, one of the best covers ever. And of one of the best rock songs ever produced. Most guys know a girl, to whom they said 'Baby please don't go'! This is rock.
I found out yesterday that our dear beloved Burke Shelley passed on on the 10th of January. This was the first song I played. His fans never wanted him to go, and to us, he will always be playing a major part in our lives. I saw Budgie at the Saxon Tavern in 1983 - and, not unexpectedly, they were brilliant. I managed to touch them all as they were being applauded. Definitely one of my more memorable moments! Love you Burke Shelley RIP 🙏🕯️ XXXXX

The competition was fierce back then. So many great bands, and as much as Budgie were good, they didn;t have the dark satanic edge of Sabbath, the sheer power of Purple, or the often folky, progressive mystique of Zep. They were just a heavy blues rock band. They didn't have the USP's of the of the major acts. Even Burke Shelly, whose voice I love, had a far more talented Canadian doppelganger in Geddy Lee. I suspect there were dozens of hard rock blues bands back then, who popped up every now and then on the Whistle Test, sounded great but were never heard of again. Budgie were at the very top of that third division, and at least enjoyed some album chart success, and the accolade of being a major influence on the NWOBHM. A bit like Diamond Head, later on.
Had the pleasure of seeing this 3 piece on 07/03/1975 Albert Hall, Nottingham, England (with Cisco) These guys put on an excellent show! NO MIMING!!!! NO CRAP!!!! Awesome band . . . . .
I luckily found this on vinyl in a rock/antique shop which had boxes of vinyls and found thi s gem. The bass sound......... 👌🤘🤘 And the bass line is just 👌👌
First time I heard this I was young enough NOT to know what the song title means. I wondered where could a baby possibly go they cannot even walk? I hardly know better now at age 67 but the music is still the same - raw, unpretentious and uplifting.
definitely Budgie is one of the premo 70's bands I cannot express in words of gratitude of the happiness toe tapping just wanting to get up and dance music and I don't dance, Loved to have seen them but happy to listen and share their music to those with opened minds or searching for something ....... Budgie
I am so impressed & just downright thrilled to hear from fellow chaps that know the value & pure dynamic talents of the great Babe Ruth & Budgie. Having all of both of these artists recordings. You chaps must check out "Hammer & Thongs" from Budgie & "Tomorrow: the joining of the day" Babe Ruth. Get back to me with a comment & I will gladly respond. Also, give your headsets a workout with "Finch" Album "Beyond Expression" & it truly is just that awesome! Thanx
Never heard a bad version of this song. Not by anyone. But, this has to be one of the best, along with AC/DC's cover in 1975 (with Bon Scott in pigtails).

I might be crazy but I really love the way this song plays on for awhile and then just abruptly ends. I'm pretty sure a lot of Budgie's other songs do the same thing, which creates a sort of gimmick, which is something that you don't see very often in modern music.

whoever mixed this is genius every instrument in your face
You are so correct - pity the poor mixing muddied the sound on their later albums.

We need to share this band with people more. I love how all the instruments are balanced. Usually the bass is drowned out in modern bands.
Burke Shelley said the guitar and bass play off each other and the drums fill the spaces, so you are right about the balance.
Very true
I have got this on vynal mint
Loved this track back in the 70's, had the album and saw Budgie play at Hitchin in Hertfordshire. Love this version
