One of the greatest songs and bands of all time. Still finding people who haven’t ever heard of these guys. It’s my goal to expose everyone to this great band. RIP Burcke Shelley. A great influence and legacy.

Budgie is another one of those bands that I just loved as a kid in the '70s. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where Budgie were as big as Led Zeppelin, Kiss or Black Sabbath. They were played on the local rock radio station constantly and were a huge concert draw. Oddly, I thought they were a massive multi-platinum band until I moved out of state for a while and discovered that no one had heard of them. These guys were just stellar!

I got into Budgie back in the early 90s I think it was. Roadrunner re-released their first album if I recall correctly. @Lennyofbassist 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Alex Threadgill They were actually a really big deal back in the day, which is why you've got bands like Metallica and Van Halen, even Iron Maiden occasionally covering Budgie's material. Their staying power just wasn't all there, despite it being them and Judas Priest that helped lay the grounds and expand on the more 70's style of metal.

    • @ledavalon7118

it might also be because bands like Zeppelin and Sabbath were reigning supreme in the rock industry at the time so there was a lot of established competition.

Seems to me that one of their greatest attributes is that they dont record music that they cant duplicate live. The albums don't contain the dozens of overlays that most bands employ to fluff -up their music. It's left with that beautiful raw edge that sets these guys apart. All other bands that are unable to create the fullness exhibited by this three piece must yield the right of way.DOT!

Funny but i used to think they didnt exist. I can still remember going to gigs in 70s and hearing people shout. 2 words one was Wally and the other was Budgje.

Budgie was underground music for years. It was never played on the radio ever! Ah! The good old days! Ha! I used to get to hear the underground Albums from English imigrants that have just come to Australia, they would bring all the good stuff with them, otherwise I would never have heard of them and others like; The Doors,Lynard Skynard,Hawkwind,Dire Straits,etc...etc...

Through their sixth album many of there songs had 4,5,6 and even seven different parts to them which is very unique at that time.

I loved these guys for years and people used to tell me, " who the f is Budgie?" I spent more time teaching who this band is to countless rock fans who never heard of them...

So glad I got turned on to this group (1998). Better late than never. I was into Nugent in the 70's and sadly.......I didnt care about much else.

I remember, many years ago, before I married my ex-husband, I had the front cover of bandolier airbrushed on a t-shirt for him as a Valentine's Day present and it came out fucking amazing!

I was lucky enough to see them play live when they did a one-off in Cardiff with some other Welsh bands from the same era around 2000. “Re-Enter the Dragon” the event was called. Such an awesome live band. Tony Bourge’s guitar sound was heavier than James Hetfield’s.
