Hey Brandon, love the video, used it to help get the carb off my ‘69 6hp. Got a question: when I bout the motor I could get her to run, but not throttle past idle. Now after I cleaned the carb, as soon as she kicks over she starts to run hard then stops running altogether. Do you have any ideas on fixing this?
Great videos iv learned so much from watching. I have a question on my 1981 Evinrude 7.5 can I test run with a gravity feed tank an bypass the fuel pump. Just for testing?
So i rebuilt my carburetor and found some fiberous material down by where the slow speed needle seats at the jet orifice. I removed the material i was wondering if it is suppose to be down there or not. Thanks
Yes, it’s kind of an odd seal of sorts. Check your model number on the I.D. plate. Input that at Crowley marine website and use that part fiche to determine what the part number is for that. I would recommend buying the “carb rebuild kit” on the fiche page and get a whole kit. Worth the money.
The 5 uses a different shaft than a 6 HP; you wont be able to use the 6 HP prop. The 5 HP engines, and props, are quite difficult to find. Im guessing in the later 60's, not many were sold, as most people just sprung the extra $1 for a 6 HP. The prop is usually the hardest part to find/replace on that engine. Now, a 4 HP prop you might be onto something. The early 70's 4 HP came with a weedless, and a standard drive. A weedless drive is out, but the standard lower uses the same prop shaft, seal, and bearing head as the 5.5. In theory, you can use all of the 4 HP's prop and hardware to replace the prop. The 5 HP would have used a 8 X 7-1/2 Given your only option is a 8 X 5-1/2, I would use that.
That starter has a slot on the bottom plate that the starter spring goes through hooks and locks into....you need to be damn careful moving that starter around...if that spring unhooks from the plate at the very bottom, off comes the power head. Just a heads up to someone doing this for the first time.
Hello, Great videos. Was wondering if you could help me out with a question? I have 1996 Johnson 115 and want to remove the VRO pump. Do you know what pump I need to order.

Great information, thanks. I was concerned about the pull start flying apart when I unbolted it to reach that carb nut.
Your a legend! Exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you from Ireland.

You probably need to take of the starter and spin it so you feel that it has tension and then put it back together again

9.9's didn't come out until 1974.
If a 71, you have a 9.5. Completely different engine.
What was the scream at about 2:00?? Everyone okay? 😳
Scream?
That might have been at your place!
