Such a humble man... He obviously holds the ethics of his natural profession of a carpenter who was fortunate in getting his opportunity to channel skills into another craft. Totally deserved award and a joy to watch. Our favorite movies would not be nearly as good as they are without his involvement.
Harrison truely deserved this award, as for negative comments about his speech, yes it wasn't perfect, but it was heartfelt and personal. Lets not forget another famous actor, Laurence Olivier, who would get physically sick with stage fright. So Harrison didn't do to badly considering!
Every time I hear Harrison's name, I get goosebumps. He was such a huge part of my childhood, its not even funny. Hes starred in 10 of my favorite movies.
@ 2:24, look at Carrie Fisher's huuuge smile! :-) I haven't seen her smile like that in a looong time! I love Harrison, George, Steven, and Carrie! :-D
Both the "Star Wars" and the "Indiana Jones" films were staples of my film experiences as a kid growing up and appreciating the art of films. Thank you, Harrison Ford, for making those experience s so fun and memorable.
Wow! From 2:13 - 2:25, this clip shows Melissa Mathison (Ford's second wife), Ford's mother, Dorothy, and Carrie Fisher - all three in row. All of whom have since passed away.
Carrie 2:24; She also made a memorable speech available in AFI clip form. When I was a kid and all the movie stars from the big studios were either getting lifetime awards or obituaries, my parents reacted, but I just expected that people from "the past" would die. Now, my generation begins to die and I am alarmed. Cannot beat the grim reaper. Bergman films the grim reaper and Woody Allen comically reprised the figurehead. Now that we have visual records of people, we see their youth and their aging. The photograph and motion picture and digital sharing will make more vivid the transition from youth to aged. Obits are great for sense of bio and zeitgeist.
now , i know He's a great actor and all, but being a great actor doesn't mean he's a great spokesman, give the guy a break, everybody has his or her ups and downs
@deadwood753100 You could not be more wrong. The fact of the matter is that Harrison Ford has certainly indeed impacted modern cinema. Also, if you were not aware, not every actor is as outgoing and over the top as Robin Williams, and Harrison Ford is an example of that. You don't have to cry and be overtly emotional to be truly touched by such an honor.
Wow ! There are many iconic leading men in Hollywood over the years - but there's only one Harrison Ford. Its fitting that they got Brad Pitt - who's considered one of my generation's best leading men - to participate in Ford's tribute.
@Fue13 No, it's not. Even Marlon Brando used cue cards on some of his films to help him with his lines. Politicians use teleprompters to help them with their speeches and have been doing that since the 1950s. I think any human being facing such a crowd on such an important night of their life would want the reassurance of some cards and notes. He did fine.
had another anxiety crisis today, so i ran this video again to remind me that life is good, with harrison in it ;) this man gets me trough it, everytime - thank you sir! how does the saying goes? behind every great man, is a great..... dorothy, melissa, patricia and carrie ;)
Every character he plays, he OWNS. it's just impossible to imagine other actors playing them. Look what happened to Solo. There can only be one Han Solo and that is HFord.
Wow. I once stayed at a friends house in Santa Barbara, who was part of dance recital that Patricia McQueeney attended. Interesting family - the youngest son went to school with Alex Zemeckis - son of Academy Award-winner Robert Zemeckis, and the house was once owned by Singer / Songwriter Joe Cocker.
When was this Life Achievement Award was given to John Wayne, Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitchum, Charlie Chaplin, Cary Grant, Olivia de Havilland, Jean Simmons, Deborah Kerr?, never!!, then it means nothing
Spielberg and Lucas does not seem particularly warm in their handshakes with Brad Pitt, is there something ? By the way, they should have invited Ridley Scott too .. Blade Runner's artistic achievement ranks at least alongside Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark ..
I see but look at the standing of Blade Runner today as one of the greatest sci fi monuments today ... I think Ridley was in his element during those days thats why his best works are still Blade Runner and Alien ... I have a hunch that Harrison Ford may have been a victim of his own growing fame and power ... I feel as he grew older his choice of movies seem to become rather less edgy, less imaginative, less risky, safer and more politically correct ... its sad because his charisma lends itself readily to more edgy and imaginative pieces .. His less known works like Mosquito Coast, Frantic, Regarding Henry and even Frisco Kid are all really interesting movies (despite some flaws too) ...
I've read the story but I do not think the crew was xenophobic .... you know how when people get frustrated they say things like "that british guy" but they don't really mean to insult by nationality but as a way of addressing someone they don't like for various reason, not necessarily racist ones .. For one thing the crew is really professional when you look at the amazing result of the visuals of the movie ..
I kind of agree. I've always thought the best acceptance speeches come from theatre actors like Christopher Plummer, Emma Thompson and Ralph Fiennes etc. They're actors on a stage! Improvise and have fun, I say. Don't let the audience get to you.
I love Harrison he acts like he's been awarded a bucket of dog shit. In a 1000 years time a boy will be watching Raiders for the first time that is great. He will aways be Indiana.
There is an AFI video where Harrison is thanking speaking about someone (George Lucas maybe?) but instead talks about how George kept rejecting him and someone named Bob (Gale?) actually started his career.. I saw it on TH-cam a couple years ago... anyone know what the hell I'm talking about?
I’m like very so long time Harrison💕Indiana Jones, Le Fugitif( Dr Kimble👍) 7 jours, 7 nuits...💥really great and wonderful actor🙏Humble, not pretentious, it’s a Being Man and CHARMING Man🔥Lovely Harrison💋comments under Actors are wonderful🙏💕great celebration for beautiful Actor👍and here, him chance: he will have held very pretty Women’s in his arms💥she are presents ‼️💥
Star Wars and Indiana Jones never would have been without Harrison Ford. An ICON and a LEGEND.
I love how nervous he is. He is so successful, beloved, and handsome, and yet he's still scared. Something about that is comforting in a way.
"You've made me laugh...and I'm gonna get the hell out of here before you make me cry"
spoken like a true badass
Such a humble man... He obviously holds the ethics of his natural profession of a carpenter who was fortunate in getting his opportunity to channel skills into another craft. Totally deserved award and a joy to watch. Our favorite movies would not be nearly as good as they are without his involvement.

Hard to believe Harrison was 58 then. Aging - he's doing it right.
JourneyFanForever One of the few hollywood stars who does it
Every time I hear Harrison's name, I get goosebumps. He was such a huge part of my childhood, its not even funny. Hes starred in 10 of my favorite movies.
None of which feature Brad Pitt
He's long overdue for a lifetime achievement Oscar.....
lucas and spielberg made what ford is now, a star, but in my opinion his best performance is in blade runner .
I really liked him in Witness and The Mosquito Coast, two very underrated performances
Fav Actor ever.
@ 2:24, look at Carrie Fisher's huuuge smile! :-) I haven't seen her smile like that in a looong time! I love Harrison, George, Steven, and Carrie! :-D
Harrison Ford's Theme Is ALWAYS The INDIANA JONES THEME, I Cant Imagine A Indiana Jones Film Without Mr Ford
Harrison Ford is a legend!

It's kind for the guy who makes a speech! It show that the guy was prepared for that and has respect for the audience!! Great Harrison Ford!!
"...probably the coolest man in American cinema."
Brad stop making understatements. Harrison is the coolest man ALIVE.
Both the "Star Wars" and the "Indiana Jones" films were staples of my film experiences as a kid growing up and appreciating the art of films. Thank you, Harrison Ford, for making those experience s so fun and memorable.

Very well deserved award for him. I don’t think there is a single movie Harrison Ford is in that I didn’t like
Brad's so young here
*applause* well deserved!

Wow. You know what I never see when I watch harrison ford irl? AN EGO.judt down to earth honesty and humility
That close-up shot at the granny was just brilliant.
He is the epithome of joy and cheer when speaking (even if he's recognized with a Lifetime achievement). I'm being sarcastic, obviously.
Blade Runner. Says all.
Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones. No one else could ever play that character.
I wish I can see full version of the show
He has a good heart, and good intentions.. but he is nervous as hell.
Pikachu Pot Pie this makes him look cute
Best ever....
hes so cool :)
When was this Life Achievement Award was given to John Wayne, Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitchum, Charlie Chaplin, Cary Grant, Olivia de Havilland, Jean Simmons, Deborah Kerr?, never!!, then it means nothing
he is amazing no one could be indiana jones except him
He's just the coolest dude
my three heroes

I think I would have been terrified to speak in front of these people, too!
You may have missed Regarding Henry and Witness
It was his wonderful work in WITNESS that gave Harrison Ford his only Academy Award nomination thus far.

You mean Bob Daly?
@Frye666 @Fue13 ya and he played HAN SOLO -.-! han freaking solo!

@youandme7499 No he's a private person
Is he drunk..? Don't rage now, I'm not hating, I'm a die hard fan.
No... Just nervous...
nerves! it can really freeze you up and slow your speech, trust me... at least he doesnt blush and feel like fainting
SIGMA NU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@filmaddict24 nope
Brad Pitt looks so wrong here.
He seemed pretty subdued there.
Damien INSANO He's always like that. Harrison's very shy in public.
Ford never seems very comfortable in front of a live audience.
@Fue13 He is a big fear of public speaking a lot of actors due sorry frye666 u fail at life
K except its totally not Bob Gale..
I do not like his hair
I don't like you.
Claire Russell-Lasalandra is it the subject of the video?
Not a lot of true passion there. If it isn't written down....
Awkward!
