I say this all the time, I don't believe in calling anything the "best" for one simple reason. When something comes to an end, you can rate and decide the best. But, when the arts have existed since before Shakespeare and Mozart and Van Gogh, they will never end. So, while this can be one of the best, it can never be the best. Some say Babe Ruth was the best. I say Willie Mays was the best. However, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire can never be the best and we all know why.
I add this because I will always remember Sir Lawrence Olivier being presented an Academy Award for lifetime achievement and his speech is something I can remember today as mindblowing. Not the best but close. I believe it was 1979. Check it out.

What I love about this special man is that he sure is an alpha male here, there's no denying it. But he's a NATURAL and DESERVED alpha, no arrogant, overcompensating a**hole desperately trying to prove anything to anyone. Quite the contrary! Sir Sean Connery was 1000% a self-made man who came from very, very little and became an icon through nothing but his hard work, diligence, dedication (though never obsession), eloquence and cleverness (though no snobbishness), always the right combination of toughness, kindness and coolness, charisma, intelligent humor, charity, integrity and quite simply authenticity! The man was so authentic and multi-faceted, that his masculinity didn't feel toxic or over the top, at least not when he was getting older + more mature. - And this is coming from a 28-year-old feminist (that's right! Feminism is about empowering women, not emasculating men)!

It's wonderful that Sean salutes the writing; the books, the plays, and the scripts. Without these, there would be no plays, movies, or TV shows. When accepting awards, too many actors ignore writers and salute the directors as though they are the true geniuses in the productions. Directors INTERPRET from the writing, just like actors do. In fact , virtually every major player - cinematographer, art director, special effects supervisor, sound effects men - read the script so they know what they have to produce.

That's spot on. The now, late, great Sean Connery was the quintessential James Bond. He brought his all, to the character, and made it iconic. But, it also helped that they were so well written, inspired adaptations of the great Ian Fleming's work. Pierce Brosnon, I think, was very suitable to the role. But, unlike Connery, didn't seem to have the benefit of good writing. This is a prime example of the essential importance of sound writing, in film. It is, so key.

I was born the year before Roger Moore took the reins of 007 so he was my James Bond growing up. But to me, Sean Connery is the definitive James Bond. My father's generation - the Baby Boomers - is lucky indeed to have grown up during that magnificent era.

I was working at a restaurant. Sir Connery was eating dinner. I walked past his table. He was wearing a cashmere robins egg sweater. I ran my hands over his back. He looked shocked and back at me. I shrugged and said I just couldn’t help myself, sir. He replied ‘Of course, you couldn’t and winked. I can still feel those muscles and the cashmere. Top ten moments of my life!!!

Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade remains one of the greatest adventure movies of all time and two of the reasons were Sir Sean Connery and Harrison Ford. Now, if CBS can re-air Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade, preferably on Thanksgiving, that would be a major plus!!!

@@kennethliyanto9833 the balance between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery was amazing...
One of the rarest movies where Sean Connery was co starring but where his charisma and talent was not eclipsing the other one, but was cooking a miracle. Not so easy to shine while Sean is your partner! He was naturally the one you remember.
In The Rock, I remember him as "the" leading Man. The same in Red October (he was so excellent in it!)
But some actors managed to play at the same level, like HF in the Last Crusade. Remember Family Business, with Dustin Hoffman ? A real little gem.

I think it is both awkward and difficult to compare Sean Connery to anyone or anything, because he wrote his own unique script all throughout Life - when he speaks so clearly in that magnificent Scottish accent, one realises that he has the heart of a Lion, the memory of an Elephant, and the brilliance of a Superstar who has a humble touch, which distinct aptitude really makes his stirling qualities shine with a veneer polish which warms the Heart to enjoy the greatest joie and pleasure imaginable...A truly remarkable Actor and Man.
