What kills me is it's been 5 years since he has updated anything..he does a great job...
Born in 56 to a Chrysler mechanic you now know where my heart lives. He brought em all home through the 60's and 70's. Saw your sub and did the same. Bell on bud.
That's awesome! Thank you!
Good audio and video quality that all most everyone that's self funded sucks at. Good content as well.
Thank you for the kind words, Chris! I appreciate you.
Just a suggestion, if you pour with the spout on the top instead of the bottom the air would be able to escape easily as you are pouring.
They should make a manifold for the PVC and EGR that goes in between the intake and the heads. It would allow the intake to stay cleaner and allow for a better air flow.
MostlymoparIH That makes perfect sense. I’ll try that next time. I’ve read people go on and on about using a catch can but I don’t see the point unless you disable the EGR also. I think the oil from the PCV system might actually help dissolve the EGR crud. That stuff was like sticky tar right around the EGR port. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Wow.. you have lots of free time for that procedure. Will look nice and pretty on the engine.
Good idea to clean intake internal. Yet, I think the intake is made to trap some unwanted partials that you most likely don't want in your engine. It does this by trapping the unwanted partials in the oil that's normally on the internal surface of the intake. Love the video.
I think so too. I know many folks use catch cans to catch the oil vapors but then the EGR is dumping in there with no oil. So, who knows what effect that has. Thanks for the comment!
EGR, exhaust GAS recirculation, not oil. There’s no way in hell that is acceptable or even “by design”. They put huge effort into every nuance of the airflow from air filter all way to the intake valve. Why do you think it’s called a Hemi? That’s a massive engineering. effort to get the valves to lay out the way they do, using a semi hemispherical combustion chamber so that the intake charge can approach in an optimally aerodynamic way, where the valves are on opposing sides, so the intake charge can hit the valve head sideways, as opposed to almost perpendicular. Same for the exhaust valve. Conventional pushrod heads have the intake charge enter parallel to the valve stem, then it hits the valve head and has. to go around the valve head to get into the combustion chamber. With the Hemi heads, it runs across the valve head, less turbulence, better homogenous mixture for better and more complete and fast combustion. Same for the exit path. Every little influence onn airflow affects performance, as well as emissions and mileage.
I hear you and thank you for the comment. It appears to be pretty common that the oil vapors from the PCV collect inside the intake manifold. So much so, that many people use catch cans to catch the oil before it enters the intake. My thought is that the exhaust gas residue / carbon would be harder to clean off without the oil from the PCV. This is just my observation.
Lots of talent there sir, wish I had those skills, might save me tons on car maintenance. Nice Video.
Reviewing Playing & More RPM Thanks, man!
Fully supporting you (well my husband is, im writing the comment) from the James cox Playlist. He says great video! I added you to the auto playlist so he can watch again and again, and he will. Have a great weekend!
Lynda's House of CHILL Thank you for the kind words! Hope y’all have a great weekend also. 🙂
your video really help me on the oil presure senor thanks alot
You’re welcome, glad you found it helpful.
Great work, David! You definitely know your stuff!
Thanks :) Always impressed by engines. I make stares at the size. And restore antique furniture. Wish I good do what you are doing :)))
Nice video, that's the most legit manifold cleaning I've ever seen. Have you thought of adding a catch can to help/halt the oil buildup in the manifold? I have one on my SRT8, and it ends up with a tablespoon or so of oil by my next oil change...
Robert Snyder Hey, man, thanks for the kind words. I’ve thought about that but I think the EGR system causes more contamination than the PCV system. So, I would probably only add a catch can if I was also going to disable the EGR.
My hemi old cop car charger had a oil catch can and still is dirty on the inside
You are doing a really great job, audio and video!
I wonder, is all that extra cleaning mostly cosmetic or does it give better performance?
Seems like if you just get the big stuff, because once you put a few miles on it then will become dirty again anyway ?
henryssurfshowcase I would say it’s cosmetic because, like you said, it’s going to get dirty again in time. To keep it clean, I would have to disable the EGR system and add a catch can to the PCV system. Thanks for the support! 👍
Hello, friend! Wish you all the best and success in what you do!!
Thanks my 2006 had bad coolant tubes under the manafold hope you replaced yours pipes are rotted and bad o rings thanks for the Video that oil will fowl out your spark plugs my exhaust was black inside
Thanks for watching! If memory serves me there was a metal coolant tube that runs under the intake manifold on mine and I did replace the o-ring where it connects to the water pump or timing cover (can’t remember which).
My coolant tube look rusty and exhaust pipes are black inside. So I'll have to replace my o rings on my intake
Great video intake manifold looks like new. I will probably have to do this to mine too
Hello, just completed this procedure on my 5.7 hemi intake. It came out great. One question though, what did you do with the solution when you were done? I cannot imagine pouring it down the drain lol
Hi Tyrone, I bottled up the solution into old milk jugs and the Purple Power containers and took it to a local oil change facility. You could also try Advance Auto, Auto Zone, or O’Reilly Auto. I know Advance and Auto Zone take used oil and I think they take coolant as well. I would put this solution in that same oil/coolant category. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Dude thank you for the sub man I really appreciate the support
Yessir! You are welcome and thanks also.
I've got my Grand Cherokee 5.7 tore down right now replacing valve cover gaskets and exhaust manifold gaskets and bolts. Did you notice any performance or mpg improvement after cleaning the intake? I wasn't planning on removing mine, but I will if you think it's worth it?
I probably wouldn’t bother with it unless you just wanted to. However, I would consider removing the throttle body and getting some throttle body cleaner and cleaning that thoroughly.
The reason I removed my intake was because I had oil seeping from the oil filler in the intake manifold where it meets the head. So, I was already replacing all the rubber o-rings on the bottom side of the intake manifold, and the manifold was pretty dirty on the outside. It didn’t make sense to me to put a nasty looking manifold back on the engine so then it turned into the video I created.
I got the OEM Mopar o-rings from the dealer and those things are more expensive that you would think.
Great video ... it is interesting how cars are all put together 😊
Cool vid man,,,.I'm an ASE Mastertech,,,,well done instructional. Can't believe you didn't pull out the all mighty brakeclean,,,,,lol.
I did, a little... Maybe I should have used more brake clean. That black crud on the inside was gnarly. 🙂
Lol,,,been there
How did the truck runs after you put everything back together.?... Ty in advance
Now how do I remove the manifold?
Gotta love these mechanics videos, Awesome
Thanks for sharing your awesome diy videos. Helped me out with the maintenance on my 2005 magnum rt.....subscribed
James Hutch Thanks, man! I’m glad the videos helped you.
Just found your video, congrats on hitting, and surpassing, your 2018 1k subscriber goal!
You aint playing no games with that intake manifold
great video, I'll have to make this my next project.
Did you notice any improvement in performance after the cleaning?
Rickey Steinke I didn’t but it looked much nicer afterward, and I already had it off when I was replacing the water pump. So, it was a convenient time to clean it.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thanks for your support ,I just subbed to your channel, hope you don't get to dirty working on your car parts..Hsve a great day..😎😍😍😍😘😍
I try not to but sometimes it’s unavoidable. 🙂Thanks for the support!
AWesome! Love working on cars! Haven't gotten to lately...but will rebuild one day! Supported. Found on LIvE w james
Thank you, I have supported you also!
Very and that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks and greatly appreciated.
Thanks for watching and I’m glad to help!
great job David
e Thank you!
While you have it out, you can port match it for a couple extra ponies
I saw a video where a guy was doing that but I kind of had my hands full as this was on the tail end of a coolant leak repair between the timing cover and the block. It might be something to try though. Thanks for the comment. 👍
EDIT: You are the guy I saw doing that. Ha! Cool. 😎
Good video like the time lapses.
Hemi Mike Thanks, man.
Awesome job! I need to do this to my Charger. Red button hit and thumbs up!
Build it R/T Thanks, buddy! I joined your channel a while back but I need to stop by.
Thats right, TH-cam must have removed me. Ive had that problem before, I was watching a fellow MOPAR comunnity mebers videos and realized I hadnt seen any videos of his in awhile and come to find out TH-cam removed me as an S.
Cheers ..cool vid.from Australia 👍👍
Thanks, man!
@@DavidJWarEagle I'm doing a ground up resto on a ..valiant Ap6 ..got a 5.7 going in it .am looking at the msd hemi 6 ignition module ..and the Fast ez efi throttle body set up..do you know much about them.or any other products you could suggest .I'm just bit overwhelmed by so much info and products available .any advice would be appreciated
Folks seem to like the Holley Terminator X. You might check that system out.

Question? You wiped the dirt off and then washed it.... can you explain this method? Thanks
Are you referring to the dry brushing and vacuuming before I hosed it off?
Thanks for sharing and caring 👍
You are probably like me, you get the watch time. Thanks for sharing!
Thomas Harden Fishing Do it yourself repairs You’re precisely correct! I’ll check out your channel also. Thx!
Thanks!
Pretty Cool video, thanks for posting this video
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing
I have a 2006 Chrysler 300c 5.7 Hemi AWD; the car got overheated and damaged 3 pistons and both cylinder heads! I just got finished rebuilding the motor and started to clean the intake from the valve seat contamination when I noticed there's a melted ½” hole inside of the intake on cylinder #1. Just wondering if the hole is there by a design or mine just got burnt through??? It looks like I can patch it with some RTV, but I can’t see if any other cylinders have holes. I hate cheap plastic parts. LOL
ZTEKFORCE As far as I know it is not advisable to reuse an intake after a dropped valve seat. My intake didn’t have a hole like that so I don’t know what happened to yours.
I think a backfire melted the spot when the engine got overheated! I was able to clean the intake and patch the hole with some rtv sealant but I'm not sure yet if I'll reuse the old intake, the new intake is a bit overpriced if you ask me. LOL
All hemi need an oil catch can helps alot with the mess
Wouldn't using tap water also cause corrosion? Especially soaking it 24 hours?
This is a composite/plastic manifold so no rust.
this is very informative! thank you for sharing my dear friend!👍😇
What is the part number for the manifold gasket?
A high pressure car wash would have worked better. At low pressure you could have cleaned the inside of the runners without any damage.
Good day,
What’s the parts number for all of the O-rings for the underside of the intake? Thanks in advance!
Jimmy Rogers Hi, I don’t have those part numbers but your local Dodge dealer can get them for you, or you can search an OEM parts website like Parts.com. They were expensive though, over $8 USD each if memory serves me. There are 8 o-rings, one for each intake runner (all the same part) and there are 2 o-rings for the oil filler and PCV oil separator housing. So, you’ll have a total of 10 o-rings and 2 different part numbers. Hope that helps.
Great👍. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks and you’re welcome! 👍
great job my friends 🙌🙌🙌
Awesome video.
Thank you!
@@DavidJWarEagle hey buddy just use diesel the next time, much better results lot less time wasted.$$⏰📠💰💸🔧💯🇺🇸😏
that same thing i did too mind and it clean up good
Curious, how did you dispose of the dirty cleaner?
I took it to a local auto parts store that also accepts used oil.
@@DavidJWarEagle Thank you for thinking of our planet... Were you able to notice better performance ?
I don’t think this makes a difference for performance. I had to remove the intake manifold while replacing the water pump and noticed how nasty it was inside, and decided to clean it.
What is the steel black line under the intake manifold cause mine looks rusty
That’s a coolant line.
@@DavidJWarEagle thanks
@@DavidJWarEagle how long did it take to remove the intake manifold cause I have the same car except mine is awd
Good video. I just worked on an intake on my channel
good video
Awesome very informative
How has it held up?
It’s been great except that I spilled some oil the other day when I was filling the engine. So, it looks like I’ll be cleaning the engine this weekend. Otherwise, all good.
Should have used simple green it’s the best hands down...
895 I support you. Handyman, great.
just subbed, awesome content !
Wonder if a dishwasher would work hahaha
How many miles on the engine
The engine and car have approximately 64,000 miles. This is a 2005 Dodge Magnum RT.
DavidJWarEagle wow all that gunk at 64k .... i am getting a catch can asap ... lol
maldo72 If you are going to add a catch can, I would also disable the EGR system because you’ll still be getting all the nasty EGR stuff which was what caused most of the black crud in the manifold.
DavidJWarEagle whats the best way to do that? ..... you need to make a video on this topic lol
maldo72 Usually this would be done on a car that isn’t used on public roads, “off-road” use only, and you would need a custom tune to disable the EGR system and normally a Diablosport tuner would be used to load the tune into the PCM on the car.
If you turn a jug sideways it'll pour a lot smoother jfyi
Very good friend like, new in your channel
greaaat
I'm always getting oil around my pcv valve I put in a new one and soom how it still comes out
I was getting oil seepage around the hoses but not at the valve itself. Have you cleaned the opening where the PCV valve goes? Is the valve fully seated? I don’t think I’ve heard/read about that particular concern.
DavidJWarEagle I'll take a look I'm having a bigger problem I'm having a bad vibration when I'm in low RPMs just trying to maintain speed and it's shudders when I'm coming to a stop it runs fine in autostick don't know if it's a mds problem or the torque converter
If it behaves in autostick, that would make me think it’s a MDS problem. MDS is disabled in autostick mode. Have you taken it in for service? If you can take the service advisor with you and show them exactly what’s its doing you might have a good chance of getting it sorted out. Also, are there any trouble codes? You should be able to do the Mopar Key Dance to retrieve them. I have a video on that and it’s super easy to do.
very nice my friend ,subbed u .thank u.
I like your content , I will support your channel, new subscriber, 443
Thanks
You’re welcome
Thx
You'll get there soon. #IAmACreator
👍
My Chrysler 300C dropped a valve seat and I can't believe how much metal nuggets made it into the intake and I'm even more shocked they didn't get redistributed throughout the engine. Unfortunately your video is only helpful if you want to get oil/dirt out of your IM. I'm probably going to the car wash and use the high pressure sprayer to clean it out. I've washed it out 6 times and metal bits still keep coming out. Then I'll probably follow up with the air compressor filled up to about 100PSI.
In the case of a dropped valve seat, people usually replace the intake manifold. It is unlikely that all of the metal will be removed.
I came here to see the O-Rings get replaced

" Cleaning the inside i don`t think is necessary"....WHAT ?
Done sub 383 my friend
Jemu to jest to :) 5:98
Sub! Thanks
you should try kerosene, it is not corrosive. it is a parts cleaner. the video is good, but you are using the wrong product to clean engine parts. the pcv is a one way valve, the oil and fumes go from the pcv area to the intake. Good video though
use good synthetic and you'll never have to do this
I do, but I have had this car for only about 4 years and I think I have put about 18,000 miles on it. The car has about 66,100 miles on it now. So, perhaps the build up was from the previous owner.
Need a catch can
