    I am a 74 year old great grandma living in an RV. My utilities are included in my lot rent soooooo I wanted to run my hot water tank on electricity and not propane. Especially with the gas prices what they are. Thank you so much for your video showing me EXACTLY how to change my hot water tank to electric. God Bless!

      Quick question…since you live in your Rv, do you simply have the switch to your water heater on at all times or only a couple hours before you anticipate using hot water? We will be using our RV for living in purposes and not sure about the water heater use. Any help would be appreciated since you are living in Rv and probably face the same hot water needs.

    Actually I was not at my RV at the time, my wife had a weekend getaway at our RV and I was guiding her based on response and video. She told me that she had plenty of hot water and actually heard the water heater turning on using the propane as well so it sounded it was not on by pass. Thank you so much. But when I do get back to my trailer I will make it a point to look for that by pass so I would know where it’s at. Again, thank you for the help, much appreciated.

    Great video! Although, I am still a tad confused. When I turn on the switch outside, do I also turn on the water heater switch inside? I always hook up to electric, and try not to use much propane. I have never used the water tank only though the hose. I want to make sure I don't burn out any elements. Thanks for your help!

      The switches inside and outside are indepent from each other. you can turn one or the other on or both at the same time. The one on the outside for my RV operates the shore power heating element which is like what most have in their house. Hope this helps.

    Hey ive been at an rv park for 2 month. This morning i heard crackling sound outside and noticed the watwr heater was on as well as the switch and it was coming from that. Ive never used the hot water and im not hooked up to the water as i have a leak right now. Why would it automatically turn on like that after 2 months thats never happened. Was super hot at the valve

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The on/off switch on the outside is for the electrical. If you want electrical only, leave the switch inside off. Be careful and dont forget to turn of the switch on the outside when you do not have water hooked up or runing. I have heard a lot of folks who forgot and burned up the eelectrical heating element. Hope this helps clarify a little more.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Locate your water heater on the outside of your RV. Then look for a removable panel, drawer or other access inside behind where you located the WH. There are several configurations of valves. A general rule it to turn each one in the opposite position from where it is now.

    If my element goes bad will the lights on the on/off switch inside not come on?

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not think it will. The switch is for the controls. Usually if the heating elemnt is bad, the breaker at the water heater or you electrical panel will trip. Now this is only if the heating element is grounding itself out. Other methods are to use a multimeter looking for bad ohm results. If you are not sure how to check that, I would recommend getting an electrician to technician to check for you. Hope this helps.

    Do you have any videos on how to increase water pressure?

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Water pressure should not be increased beyond the limits of your RV. Now, that being said, If you are having issues with the incoming pressure, you will want to monitor that. I have often helped folks through online video/chat google chat. If you are interested in talking further, please send me an email at How2RV@gmail.com and we can arrange something. Have a blessed day.

    Inside my trailer on the opposite side of all the controls, on the outside, there is a small box with a dial and temp numbers on it. There is a slothead screw in the middle of it I'm guessing is for the temp adjustment. I have the outside temp dial turned all the way up but the water is hot at 1st then is just warm. Not ok for a shower. So is that dial ok to adjust to a hotter temp ok?

    • @HowToRV

      I have seen manufacturers put the switch next to the panel where the controls inside are. On older models, it is possible that there isnt any shore power heating element and will only be propane.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If your model has it look somewhere on the aluminum tube leading FROM the burner TO the propane nozzle you should find a square hole in the tube, with a sleeve around it. This hole is to venturi-feed air into the propane stream. you rotate the sleeve to make the hole larger or smaller, which adjusts the burn. Lots of yellow means you need more air. The hole is also great for spiders and wasps to get in and lay eggs & such, otherwise plugging the tube. If the hole is nearly full open and your flame is still rich, check the tube for obstructions. If you do not have any adjustments then try checking and cleaning everything. You should see a blue flame under the tank. Be safe and mindful of propane and fire. They have been know to build up gas and start with someone in front of it and burnt them. If needed, consult a technician. Please let me know how you got it to work when you do.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know, you can not change the temperature. It is pre programmed from the manufacturer. The only water heaters that are programmable for temperature that I am aware of are the tankless on demand RV water heaters.

    Just bought a used 2015 Forest River hemisphere lite and it has the exact same water heater. I finally figured out to turn on the electric power but it doesn't seem to keep it hot constantly one day it'll be scalding the next day will be lukewarm. They said you can go ahead and turn on the gas button inside for the water heater and it should fire up but if it's already lukewarm will it get it any hotter? Apparently it's only a 6 gallon tank so I don't take long lingering hot showers like I did where I lived before. I don't think there's space to add a second tank and going underneath all of that I don't think there's even an access panel for those lines to the water tank! I've also been having trouble with the stink apparently from the kitchen gray tanks because it was plugged and wasn't flowing so the RV dealership sent two guys out and fiddled around with it and the park pumped out the blackwater tank again which seems to fill up in less than a day or two for some reason and I'm not using it just me. Go figure? We flushed out the gray tanks apparently and the black tank and I put that tank treatment in both and the gray tanks are open to drain but I'm getting that stench again. Something tells me something's leaking somewhere and these guys really don't want to fix it even though I'm still under the 30 day warranty and they scammed me for a 5-year repair warranty. I told him I didn't want that when I bought it and he said well then you're going to have to pass another $500 inspection fee which was the scam. I paid 500 bucks already and it's obvious they did not inspect the rig because I found things that did not work or we're missing.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to work with a place like that is the craziest thing i have ever heard although not surprised at all. For the stink, Ensure that your traps under the sinks are clean. You should not keep the gray tank empty all the time. By doing so, grease, dirty water, and such will leave (STINKY THINGS) behind. Yes, there are chemicals that you can, but if they are flushed out right away, they have not had time to do their job. For the water heater, the electrical should be hot all the time but it does struggle to keep up with consumption. You mentioned the consumption when you said shower usage, so I am sure you completely understand. Gas (Propane) heat will help, and yes will heat up the water if not at temperature. As a matter of fact, you should be able to run either system independently or together. If you are still having temperature issues, I would only have to guess that it is with the thermostat system and you should get a technician to look at it. Hope this helps and good luck.

    • @PortlandHowardLukenAndy
      @PortlandHowardLukenAndy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HowToRV that might be the problem I've had people tell me to leave the gray water open and others say keep them closed so I will close them and allow water to stay in there. It has to be coming from those tanks and this being a used unit who knows what kind of stuff I mean even I put grease mistakenly down in the kitchen drain with hot water thinking it would flush completely out.

      @HowToRV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Try seeing if there is an inlet valve behind the water heater. If you valve that out, there will no water flowing to the hot side. Make sure that the bypass valve is not open and that the water heater is turned off electrically as well as propane.

      Usually, the heating element is what would need to be replaced. You can find one on amazon by putting in your water heater make and model. If you have the know how and are familiar with the electrical hazards involved, its not a hard to do replacement. However, I do recommend that you consult a technician for the repairs. Is it ok to leave the heater switch in the on position?

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which swtich are asking about? On mine, the switch forthe propane is inside of the RV and it will not hurt anything to leave that one on. On the outside at the water heater, mine is the electrical heating element and that one can not be left on if there is no water conected or the fresh water pump and tank is off. Leaving the electrical side on without water will burn up the heating element. The propane side is just a flame under the tank and will not hurt anything but is not recomended. In short, If you have water that can flow through the faucets, then you can leave any of the switches on. If you do not have water connected to flow, then leave them off. Hope this helps.

    I’ve got a question….. just purchased an evo trailer trailer and has the feature to use gas and electric to have more hot water… my question is that if I’m at a campsite with power and water and sewer do I need to fill up my water tank to use this feature? Or just having the water hose connected to use city water good enough?

      Thank you for the response… I understood your response but I’m not sure if I’m asking the question correctly 😬 does water flow through the water heater if there is no water in the tank? Because, I do not fill my tank, I just have my city water hose connected.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes. It goes through the water heater if your on city only. As long as you do not have the water heater bypassed like some do for winterizing, you will be good to go. A good test is to turn on the hot water site at your sink or shower with propane only. After propane has been heating for a while, turn on hot water, wait for a few seconds and see if water is hot.

      I only drained mine during the winter months if I wasnt traveling. We travel often even during the winter so during those times, we would leacve the electrical side on to keep the tank from freezing. I am fortunate enough to have electrical hook up and a parking pad at my home.

    Thank you for this. However, I took my Class C to a "repair" shop and they said the water heater is working fine (tank heats up). I still am not getting anything but lukewarm water, for about 30 seconds, from any faucet (or shower). After asking 3 others, learned I may have a "crack in the valve", which may also be the drip coming from under the RV. Do you have any experience with this issue?

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not had that issue but I have heard of someone who said that they had a facet that was allowing the hot water to bypass or mix with the cold water which never let the hot water side heat up completely. You can also check to make sure that the valving behind the water heater (mostly used for winterizing) is valved in correctly. If absolutley have to, I would try to find out a way to hook up a hose or water line to the outlet of the water heater, connect a valve or something that would stop the water flow, and try heating up the water. Then you can turn on the valve or what ever you used to stop the flow and see if you get hot water that way. This method eliminates that RV hot water side and lets you check to see if it is just the water heater or something in the RV that needs to be identified. Its a lot of work but should get you to the resolve that you are looking for. Please send me an email at How2RV@Gmail letting me know how things turn out.

    • @HowToRV

      If you are getting only warm water using either electric or LP then it sounds like your problem might be with the outside shower. Be sure that the hot and cold faucets on the outside shower are both turned off. This causes the water to mix even though shower head is turned off. Also check to make sure that the water heater bypass valve is not open. Mine is located on the back of the water heater.

    does anyone know what the on/off switch is that's on the backside of the water heater, located inside the camper? Is that to do with gas or electric heating? I have already filled my hot water tank with water and have flipped the switch on that's located on the outside panel of the camper (the one that's sort of hidden behind the gas line), and I am aware that turns on the electric heating element. I've also switched on the switch on my black panel just inside the door (where are you can push the buttons for the slide outs in the awning, etc. ) that is for the electric heating of the water. I'm just not sure what the on off switch is that is located near the bypass lines .... it's actually behind what appears to be a vent on the backside of my kitchen cabinets.

      Yes that small electric switch stays on for me. me use the hot water heater breaker in the powerbox inside to turn on electric and the red light wall switch for gas. Just turn it on in the breaker box when ready to use electric. Just don't forget to turn it off it's easier to forget to turn off the electric hot water heater because unlike the gas it doesn't have a light up button on the wall.

    • @lukeroetling8543
      @lukeroetling8543 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Turning on gas and electric at the same time is a powerful boost that will let a couple take a full shower one right after the other with no wait time or loss of heat. What I'm trying to figure out is why does my tank look plastic is it and if it is does that mean it doesn't even have an anode rod? If it didn't even need an anode rod to maintain the electrical it's probably the best hot water heater out there. I hope I don't jinx myself now I wanna find out, it's the answer I've been looking for. Mine looks plastic wrapped in foam like the one on the video but I have a rear kitchen model.
