Glad I ran across this video. I have an 06 meanstreak 1600 and glad I checked it (was in the same spot as shown in the video). It had bits and pieces in the screen. Torque specs per my manual for the screen bolt was 15 lbs but I didnt have enough space to get my torque wrench in there with the 17 mm socket.

Incorrectly installed Oil Screen! The oil Screen on Vulcan 900 should be inserted the other way around. Please check Service Manual parts 7. On the 7-4 Engine Lubricating System Oil Flow Chart it is clearly shown that the mash part should go in first in the depth of the chamber and not in the spring.

I just learned of this oil intake screen myself and now I'm wondering how the screen goes back inside!! And when you re-install that flat washer! Another video showed the guy putting it in after the spring. Hmmm...!! Anyways...thank you for the video and I can't wait to get my '03 1500 Classic running and do my first oil change!!!

Nice to know you found debris in it, that tells me it probably does it's job, what confuses me is how it works, this is the first video that I've found that points out the holes in the 'body' of the assembly.
Must be that those holes that look to be about 9mm on the body' , draw in fluid and then particles get trapped in the screen. If that is the case, I wonder why that bolt with inlets isn't oriented to the open end of the screen as opposed to the closed end.... :?:

Is this put in backwards or correctly ? I've seen this done 10 times now, five were put in one direction and five the opposite. Anyone have a pdf or shot of the factory manual for 2007 1600?

between my manual and how it came out
