Another way, good for multi-colour gradient fills, is to alpha-lock the line art layer, whack on solid colour with a hard edge brush, and then gaussian blur. With alpha lock engaged, the transparency does not leak into the paint.
Thank you for not only being helpful, but STRAIGHT FORWARD. I hate tutorials for quick, little things that are 15 mins long. You are also super talented! :)
These are pretty good tips. A problem I’ve had is choosing what color I should use for my outlines as deciding what goes well with the other colors is difficult. I’m guessing this is more a color theory issue though
I'm super ecstatic right now because literally just yesterday I was searching for a video on your channel about how to do this, and also trying to search online, but I couldn't find anything. This is perfect !!
I can’t believe I didn’t know about the select tool per layer omg... here I’ve been manually selecting everything and it being super messy! Lol this is a lifesaver
You can do it another way first select the color you want then select the layer of only line art then click the button next to the arrow to the left and click color fill. This is if you want to change the color of line art or anything i guess. th-cam.com/video/vVhAJZM6S1Y/w-d-xo.html tutorial if you still don’t get it
The hue saturation brightness sliders don’t work if the lineart is black. I see other people can do it, but it never works when I follow the same exact steps.
_sigh_ I can't deal with the saturation bar at all...either it's neon pink or grey, wish there was a color wheel to pick from... Also don't know if they changed sth, but I can't completely recolor my lineart with color drop if it isn't connected properly
how do you color drop onto the lineart like that? when i do it, it leaves the unconnected lines black and it's really difficult to get every pixel. and for the one with different colors, if i select my lineart and color over it, it makes the lineart thick and fuzzy and ruins any detail. i need help figuring out how to get different colors to my lineart.
I had the same issue. That's why I came here and it doesn't have that detail 😂 wasn't sure if it was just my pixel size or something. I use just a regular iPad not the pro
not sure why but when i drop the new colour onto my line, some of it takes and other parts don't, so then I try the new areas and no matter how many times I try and even enlarge the line to be huge, the new colour drops onto the whole piece.
Question, when I’m “hand” filling in and not using my bucket tool, it often times takes me a few strokes to get the color even. Like I have to go over the same spot a few times or there will e a lighter stroke underneath. Is this normal?
Jeffrey Lamar I use the big studio brush cause it’s so much easier, with that as long as you don’t pick up your pen you can recolour over something but once you pick up the pen to go over that layer again it’ll go on darker!
Hi! Thank you for your video! Just wondering : if I imported a drawing (made on paper), do you know how I can then color my lines ? I guess I have to isolate my black strokes somehow... But I have really no idea how to do this on procreate^^. It would be soooo helpful if you knew! Thanks!
So I created an outline in yellow that I tried changing the color as you did in the first step. It keeps filling in the entire form instead of just the layer I selected. Why does this keep happening??
it depends on the size of your canvas ! example: if your canvas is 1080x1080 pixel size, then the maximum layers you can have should be 128 if I remember. if its 2048x2048, then the maximum layers is around 40. hope this helps :D
Then figure it out yourself. They gave an amazing tutorial and you’re complaining, when coloring it in hold down for a sec and slide. I think that’ll help a bit.
Another way, good for multi-colour gradient fills, is to alpha-lock the line art layer, whack on solid colour with a hard edge brush, and then gaussian blur. With alpha lock engaged, the transparency does not leak into the paint.

Your tutorial helped me a lot, thank you!

Also don't know if they changed sth, but I can't completely recolor my lineart with color drop if it isn't connected properly

Hey Austin, thanks a lot for all the videos! I have one question: what's the canvas size and DPI you use usually? Thanks
Evgra Eva 11x15 at 300 dpi.
austin batchelor Thank you so much!!!!
Thank you very much!!! 🙏🙏
Any reason why I might be getting black pixels in my line art and not a solid color all the way through when I try the select method?
How did he make the Color gradient on the T-Rex?
Dude you're awesome, THANK YOU!

For me I just outline the drawing again, then I change its colours like this vid.
Thank you so much!!! This helped so much!!!
Very useful! Thanks.
Please where can i find a tutorial or a course to learn gradient painting like the t-rex in the video miniature? Thank you!
Yes!!! A plus for your tutorial
amazing vid thank u so much!
Hi Austin, how did you create your gradient?
Very helpful
Hey I was wondering do you have the big or smaller I pad I'm using the iPad Pro 9.7
Jordan Buchi bigger
OMG THANK YOU SM!!!
can you desaturate a layer?
Can you make multiple "clipping masks" on one layer? (like in Ps).
lotopauanka z. Not that I've found unfortunately.
Nice background
thank you so much for this!!!
So I created an outline in yellow that I tried changing the color as you did in the first step. It keeps filling in the entire form instead of just the layer I selected. Why does this keep happening??
Have you selected the right layer?
Make sure you are zoomed in enough to drop it on the line. If you miss it will fill the whole thing.
Ah! I want to find that Gamorrean Guard mug!
Thankyou!!!
Thank you so much
Feel like I’ve heard this theme music somewhere before...
Me too
Didn't work :/
What brush did you use?
thank you SO MUCH
What brush did he use?
Thank you
Okay so I bought procreate recently but it only allows me to have 4 layers max? Do I have to buy a different version or something? 😰
it depends on the size of your canvas !
example: if your canvas is 1080x1080 pixel size, then the maximum layers you can have should be 128 if I remember. if its 2048x2048, then the maximum layers is around 40.
hope this helps :D
The paintbucket Tipp, the 1st one doesnt work
Thankyou thankyou thankyou!
Okay but what if there are two different lines I want two different colours 🥲
Maybe just use multi layer masks
This doesn’t work for pencil drawings at all so it’s still not a good solution.
Then figure it out yourself. They gave an amazing tutorial and you’re complaining, when coloring it in hold down for a sec and slide. I think that’ll help a bit.
Ty ggwp
This dosnt work for me
