i think it's also important to understand which features to push and exaggerate more to better capture likeness. if you don't take that into consideration, the character will often not look like the reference because the wrong features were pushed too much or not enough!
Very interesting class. I loved all the explanations and what strikes me the most is his vision to turn people into cartoons. It's amazing how each person has their point of view. Thanks for the great demonstration!
Look for prominent features. The parts of the face you would describe the person with "ooh Johnny, the guy with a nose like a hawk!" The exaggerate those features
i always do these things and i think most of the time it works and the remaining times it would still work jus gotta get more practice and we r good to go@@IGarrettI
I love your style and how easy you express your choices. It's really something else when you find a video where the artist cares to show every step so calmly, especially when you’re not 100% fluent in english like me. Helps a lot! I would love to see more of your process here on youtube. ❤️
I've tried an incredible amount of styles and ways to color, taking hours coloring one face. In less than ten minutes you've helped me understand how to color/use procreate properly. Thank you! You've saved my life, and many hours from it.
I would love to see a demo of taking a generic or I guess I should say conventionally attractive person and adding in that extra flare to make them stand out. Or, 🤔 I guess what I mean is how to exaggerate the generic features so our characters don’t look the same 🙃 This was an amazing and insightful demo!!! Keep up the awesome work!!!
I would say the process is pretty much the same. The only difference is that for faces that are closer to average and have standard proportions, you might need to spend more time finding the elements to stylize and exaggerate. In such cases, you may also need to come up with more versions and variations in order to find the one that works best!
@@HABOOKSOh please how do you decide what part of the line becomes a section if it looks continuous, like an elipse for instance? Thanks for this tutorial.
I would look to conventionally attractive cartoons for advice. Normally for female characters they have larger eyes and lips and a smaller nose, and for males they usually have a strong jaw, sharp features, and strong eyebrows, but it all can vary depending on the exact look you're going for, and you can swap the stereotypical features of either gender for a more androgynous or unique look. Focus on their most attractive features and exaggerate those.
Sir, this video is amazing! Easily one of the best cartooning and coloring tutorials I have ever seen. I appreciate the way you instruct both the 'What to do' and the 'Why to do' as well. That is an important part of making instructions easier to recall because of the additional context. I never actually knew what ambient occlusion was before now, despite having heard the term for years. My only additional thought is that it would be extra helpful for people to hear the Why of your layer blend modes, such as using color dodge for the reflective layer. Thank you for this, I will definitely be sharing it and you have got yourself a new sub.
"Thank you very much for this content; it truly is of high quality. I would love more continuity, but I understand that you are a busy person, and doing things well takes time. I'm here to learn and perfect my drawing, and any instructional video would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for coming back! Don't leave us
It’s a good day when Habook updates. FYI, I was taking a drive about an hour ago. Saw an interesting man walking down the street and thought to myself, wouldn’t it be nice to possess the ability to draw characters out of any personality? Then Habook updates with this very same topic. Lol.
Amazing and extremely efficient video. I have noticed myself delving more into unnecessary details in my drawings, but sometimes efficient stylization and simplifications work better in your favor. Thank you for this priceless info!
Very excited to see a new video from you! I’ve watched tons and tons of procreate tutorials on cartooning and you seem to have a massively different approach which is super helpful. I know lots of people love that you are straight to the point - but it would be nice to see a slowed down version of how you actually use procreate and the processes in more depth with your colors and shadowing, etc. Can’t wait for the next video!
I have heard people mention subsurface scattering with light, but I never knew it applied to shadow edges. This is super helpful. I did not expect to get so many good tips from this one video. Thank you. (Pacing was perfect)
Great ! I've watched hundreds of art videos, yours is so fresh ! Thanks for the tip about red area between light and shadow on the skin. I had heard it quite often but your ways of explaining it was way clearer.
commenting not to say anything but solely because people keep saying it helps youtubers out. i would love to see more, but am incredibly appreciative of the resources you have given us. have a wonderful day!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO, IT'S EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR BUT COULDN'T FIND ANYWHERE 😭 google and yt would never understand me when i used to type in "how to stylize real people" and would give me tutorials for another type of stylization which i don't like lmao again thank u sm I'm glad youtube recommended this for me
YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHH! Man, I dedicate myself to this and although your style is one of my favorites, I was just missing a tutorial on the subject. Thank you!
Thank you so much, I really liked this! I enjoy learning about the thought process that goes into creating unique character shapes and you do a very good job explaining the thought process on WHY you make the shapes the way you do, rather than a tutorial that is just a bunch of 'rules on how to draw'. So thank you for that!
thank youu so much for sharing your knowledge, process and tips! I’ve been struggling to cartoonize people from photo reference.. and your video really help me bcs the explanation is clear and easy to understand..
One of the best tutorials I have seen. Your instructions were clear and good pace. We did a character assignment in class like this, I wish I had seen this tutorial first! Looking forward to more great tutorials.
Thank you for the educational videos. They deserve support, but you can make more videos. You are the only influencer that I watch and learn from. I wish you success. I apologize if there is a mistake in the writing because I am Arab.
Thank you for such an informative video! One thing I would have liked is to see is how to cartoonize the average person. I imagine many people we come across might tend to be average. I guess it should be straight forward using the same method of exaggerating features, but I just can't seem to grasp how to do it on an average face. 🤔
i think it's also important to understand which features to push and exaggerate more to better capture likeness. if you don't take that into consideration, the character will often not look like the reference because the wrong features were pushed too much or not enough!
i agree
Got it Thankyou ! That was insightful

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it :)
@@HABOOKSmasterful work. Please also make a video on the process of your 3d characters😊
the biggest problem I have stylising is that the face look like some one else's face entirely.
Ok kiekiek😢ie 5ij3🎉😢5y😂just y😊and i🎉😮😊😊
Ok Ok
Same here 😂

I love how straight forward the coloring tutorial was. I overcomplicate or oversimplify my coloring process. So this was nice to see
I’m not very good at stylizing faces but your coloring tutorial is SO helpful my coloring just went 📈
Thank you for posting after a long time. Your videos are short and to the point. Love them :)
Thank you, I'm glad you liked them :)
I agree with you

I love how positive this is. I've been struggling to figure out how to simply when drawing. This was so helpful. Thank you!

I've always wanted to do simplify my drawings like this but didn't know how. This was really helpful.

why you dont customize your own in the settings?🙄
Loved this class! I did expect a little more detail on how you exaggerate the face features. Maybe in another video
