  • Welcome to my video tp, Replacing the Drayton TRV4 Therstatic radiator valve seal and lubricating it with Silicon Grease correctly, to extend its working life.. Don't use any other lubricant other than Silicon grease then there is no chance of other lubricants damaging the seal and plastics .

    Hi Rock ,No it will not gush out just a small amount of water less than an egg cup .The Spindle will self seal once you remove the old seal but will just weep a little,just put a towel around the 15mm feed pipe and you will be fine .Cheers Brian

    Yes the new seal will fix your weepng valve ..Follow my recommendations of cleaning the shaft of silt. No leakage will occur and there not need to drain down. JUST PUT A CLOTH AROUND THE BASE IN CASE OF DROPPING ANYTHING OF FITTED CARPETS .YOU CAN GET THE SEALS ON EBAY FOR ABOUT£3each if you purchase four.Cheers Brian.😂

    Ah.. glad I just saw this. Thank you! I’ve got a couple of valves that are leaking from that area. Will changing these fix the leak? I was about to buy a couple of new valves as a couple of mine are leaking. I thought I would need to replace the whole valve. I’m a wheelchair user, so it would have been a bit of a faff getting down on the floor to do it.

    FYI - In case of a combi boiler, if you see the pressure drop even after topping up say in 15 days or a month, then its a leak in the system and the gland seal in Drayton TRV 4's is "generally" the root cause.
    Just in case you dont have the seals on hand, Teflon tape on the gland seal can arrest the flow to NO leak, stop gap arrangement. Cheers

    I have just got some of these seals and can't see any O-ring at the bottom you mention. Not got any leaks though. Just looked at one with a good magnifier and it is a special seal rather than an O-ring.

      By "O"ring I mean it's a round generic term and not it's section .Make sure you use silicon grease and it will last much longer.Thanks for your comments and feedback.Kind regards Brian.

      Thanks for the reply, I've just done three successfully and. greased them well. After more than half a century as a toolmaker I made my own removal/installation tool and glad to say it worked very well, ten minutes work saved a few quid!

      @rinklestiltskin Brilliant .I left school at 15 and did a five year toolmaker apprentiship with Fairey Aviation 1955. In 1962, engineers were not so much respected so i went into Broadcasting for 30 years .I've never regretted my early life ,as it gave skills you never forget.

    Hi Brian, my valve is weeping.. If I remove this seal will all the water shoot out of the valve?

    • @brianjwright581
      @brianjwright581  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No it will not gush out ,as long as to DO NOT press down the pin..!

    You don't have to turn the water off Brian?

    • @brianjwright581
      @brianjwright581  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No there is no leak, the valve is closed when the head is removed
