    Can these valves be used with a combi boiler? I understand the internal pump usually modulates the flow down, so will the water reach the more distant radiators?

      The auto-balancing valves are compatible with combi boilers however, you need to ensure that the minimum flow rate that the boiler pump modulates down to doesn't fall below the total minimum flow rate requirement for your system. The flow rate for each radiator can be calculated by using our online calculator.

    does this do away with the need to put a balancing valve on the return leg?

      Hi Charles, it’s good practice to always fit an auto bypass valve between the flow and return.

      @@Draytonheatingor just don’t fit a trv on one rad, normally the bathroom one and that’s your by pass. Most boilers also have an internal by pass fitted to.

    Are these compatible with opentherm combi boilers?
    I used the calculator and set for 75c/delta 20.
    With that setting the boiler seems to keep flow temp at 70 but rooms take longer to heat up and lower part of rads feel cool. If TRVs set to delta 15, boiler flow sits at about 55 and rooms heat quicker, rads Feel evenly warm

      Is your pump set at a fix speed or does it vary based upon demand?

      @@Draytonheating it’s meant to be variable ( Viessmann vitodens 050-w b0ka ) I can manually adjust it though.

      @@Draytonheating just had a reply from Viessmann. In opentherm mode, the pump is at a fixed speed, that can be set on the boiler.

      We recommended fixing your pump speed when using opentherm with the auto-balancing bodies so that sufficient flow is delivered to the system.

    Any idea how these would cope with a "smart" circulation pump, set to auto-adapt (!) - proportional pressure etc.

    • @Draytonheating
      @Draytonheating  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They will work fine so long as the flow rate doesn't modulate below the minimum that is required for the system (this will be based on total kW output).

      Do these valves work as a flow limiter and the valve will only see max flow when it’s day -5 outside? Or are these like a PICV?

    • @Draytonheating
      @Draytonheating  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, these work as PICV (Pressure Independent Control Valves)

    • @danielwilliams-pp6wl
      @danielwilliams-pp6wl 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If these valves work as a PICV then any heating system these are installed on will be more out of balance than in balance. We use PICVs in the construction industry and they would really well but they module by a BMS system. In a domestic dwelling that type of technology is not practical. By am means use these on older boiler systems with fixed speed pumps and on/off heating controls but not really suitable for newer boiler/heat pump systems.
