The Switch has definitely earned its place in history as a JRPG powerhouse, so much that it rivals the PS2. Crazy how the two are the best-selling consoles of all time. Thank you guys for this video!
I know it's not everyone's cup of tea and is kind of overshadowed by it's sequel, but I love the hell out of Octopath Traveler and place it in my best of list not just for being a great game, but for also popularizing the HD 2D style and helping set the standard for a lot of great retro style RPGs to follow.
Excellent choice! Dragon quest 11 is one of the best rpgs- (best games in general I should say) ever! It brought back the same feelings I had playing the best of the best rpgs when I was little and I hadn’t had that in years and years. That game was perfect, even things like crafting I enjoyed in that one! which is a surprise cuz I don’t normally like crafting, I feel like a lot of games now just feel like they have to shoehorn a crafting system in) but yeah that game was just perfect. It always makes me happy when I see it get the love it deserves!
Holy cow. These compilation vids are incredible - thanks for bringing together this as a community. I love the mix of OGs and some new creators. Wonderful idea
I have practically lived off my Switch for years now, even using it for some multi-plat titles over arguably better systems. I love the Switch. Surprisingly, I think that the winner for me personally is from this year: Unicorn Overlord. I was blown away, and I basically didn't have a life for a month as I couldn't put it down. An incredible game and highly recommend. There's a free 8 hour demo, so there's practically no reason not to give it a try. It only takes 2-4 hours to know if this will be your next obsession.
Man, Unicorn Overlord was the best month of the year. There was so much amazing content in that game. I was a huge fan of Ogre Battle back in the day, and this just solidified why it was such a great game. I absolutely loved experimenting with units, trying to figure out how each character worked with others in a unit and tweaking it... There is so much customization it's insane, but in the end it really felt like how you wanted to the play the game was the right answer. I only felt supported by decisions and never felt punished, unless I just seriously screwed up in an encounter by not being tactical enough, but at the same time I felt like I could always regroup and recover. My only gripes with it is the story is "just enough" to get by, it really could've been deeper, and I really wish there was more to it. Yeah, it's about a 60 hour game. But by the end you get so many great characters you can add to units, but you don't ever really get the chance to experiment with a lot of them. I really wish there was just more of an endgame where you can really challenge yourself. Although I will admit, I really loved how they handled the endgame, I just want more of the game.
Harvestella is basically a Nier game. The farming in my opinion actually takes away from the rest of the game, it's a gimmick. I would still say Dragon Quest 11 is probably the best RPG on Switch though. Theres just so much content to that game.
@@enriqueeduardovazquezdomin511 The RPG parts are really good. It's almost Nier / Xenoblade levels of writing as a Sci-fi RPG. The battle system is really fun. This is an incredible collaboration, some games I expected to see, and some I had never heard of or only vaguely knew about. And I particularly like David’s choice because it’s a game I actually have and still haven’t checked out and I keep seeing more and more people talk about it.
I love seeing these colabs!!!!! Amazing seeing Josh's Gaming Garden here, such an underrated content creator! Thank you so much for the amazing video David, absolutely loved this!
I can't say enough how much joy I get from watching all my favorite TH-camrs collaborate together. There were some surprizes here for me. Thanks everyone. My choice for favorite Switch JRPG is Triangle Strategy.
Hey David, thanks for sharing that with us :) I love the musics that you pick to put in the background there! Man, so many good games that I need to play now!
You know it's gonna be a great list when the whole squad comes together! A personal surprise favorite for me has been Shining Resonance Refrain. It was judged pretty harshly for not being a tactical RPG like the old Genesis/Saturn games, but it's charming, atmospheric and has some wonderful music and super cool character designs
Glad to see Derek here. You and him were my jam early. The reason I even went and watched other channels. Derek has his jrpg pod with Baku. I wish it were bigger and had everyone on it.
This was a ton of fun, and revealed several new things to me! I'd love to check these all out. Thanks to everyone who participated, and you for putting it together, David.
This was so awesome. It feels like you just went through my subscription list and picked all the guests lol. I'm pretty sure I'm subbed to all of them. I waited to make my comment because I was going to mention Octopath Traveler. But Backlog Battle did an incredible job.
This video featured a great collection of games; the Xeno- series has been a favorite of mine since the Saga games on PS2 and I'm (finally) starting to get into the Falcom RPGs; I'm glad NISA has been bringing them over and promoting them so more people can get into those fantastic series. On an unrelated note, I love that you have Mana Khemia prominently featured on your shelf in front of BoF: DQ. MK is such an underrated gem and I really hope Gust gives us a remaster of both of those games (plus Ar Tonelico 1+2) in the near future.
Femtrooper won with her pick of Dragon quest 11s. It truly was a PS1 RPG made with today’s graphics and honestly it’s the only game I can think of that truly feels that way. To this day it still has the best towns in any RPG I’ve ever played.
what an awesome collaboration! the atelier series is the entire reason why I bought my switch. and more recently. I probably just completed the best srpg ever, unicorn overlord. definitely worth checking out
I bet the switch has plenty of life left. If the switch 2 is as hard to get as the original or a ps5 is. They will support it still. Look at the ps4! Still getting some quality physical releases
You gotta love Branden from @JustTheGems, I knew that was going to be his pick. I think his love for Harvestella is equal to my love for GRIS. Great video!
Having Xenoblade chronicles take the first 3 slots speaks volumes 😂 for this pirate Xenoblade chronicles 2 is still my favorite despite its flaws and quirks the characters the deep if sometimes frustrating combat mechanics and the story still has me going back to it way more often the the other games ❤❤ lovely video thanks for the games
I'm kind of shocked to see both "Refrain" and "Galleria" mentioned on here, but I'm kind of glad they were, courtesy of Tarks. Are they the best RPGs ever? No, but they do so much both well and unique that it's a shame they went under the radar so much. And yeah, while "Refrain" did okay, both game's didn't exactly perform that well unfortunately. Even worse, the lead director, Tatsuya Izumi, left NIS not too long ago. So the entire future of the series is essentially over until further notice. Tatsuya Izumi might have some plans, what with how both the name and logo of his new company are references to the "Witch"/"Labyrinth" series, but it's too soon to say. But yeah, regardless, cool to see at least one, technically two, games I like mentioned on something like this. Quite rare that.
recently got a steam deck and its made me fall in love with jrpgs again and this is by far my fav channel to get game recommendations love you brotha it gets a little demoralizing playing these type of games with my 4080 pc lol
Yes! YS IX made it in the game, one of the best action jrpgs ever made, such a fun combat system and setting It harkens back to the PS2 era of obscure hack n slash games, great vibes and atmosphere
I never played an Ys game. Maybe I should play 7 or 8. This video is like a generic anime protagonist calling the power of friendship to defeat the final boss with the collaboration with other TH-camrs. Unicorn Overlord is a great game for the Switch!
I bought my v1 switch when it released and never even bother upgrading it to oled but still my currently favorite home console to play with because of the variety of jrpgs available.
if i were one of the youtubers my pick for best rpg on switch is Live a Live each character is like its own game, each have unique storylines and they even interconnect to each other, the engame also has a massive twist as well, and not to mention the banger soundtrack as well.
Great video! So glad I discovered this channel. I love xenoblade chronicles 1, I was playing and enjoying xenoblade chronicles 3 but I got distracted and didn’t play for awhile- and now I’m also playing visions of mana, bravely default 2, and tales of vesperia, so itll be hard to find time for that, but the real problem is, I don’t remember a lot where I was going or what I was doing 😬, I really wanna start playing again though! Ugh should I just restart? Or watch a let’s play to catch up ? (The thing is, it’s a long game so if I watch a huge LP i might as well just be playing it over again )
You have some nice friends! My pick would be The Night Sky Princes choice. What a journey to experience! Yasunori Mitsuda only did like one song, but the soundtrack is very good! Yoko Shimomura and ACE did the most of it, I think.
Epic Collab for an Epic Video! All Top-Tier Picks in my book, I would even throw mine out and include Trials of Mana Remake, as I played it recently on there and REALLY LOVED IT
Even though I played it on PS4, Ys VIII is so good, I basically told everyone I know that they had to play it, even if I knew they wouldn't. Instantly became a fan of the series. Three Houses and Harvestella are also great.
I always like these videos for some reason. Good to have different perspectives even from people I don't always share tastes with enough to subscribe, I guess. Still need to get around to playing Harvestella. Picked it up after Paige kept talking it up but still have barely touched it.
I know I said 5 favorites in the premier, but I'm expanding to 3 in the categories of Action, Turn-based, Tactical, and Square-Enix games that are on the Switch. Best Turn-based RPGs Dragon Quest XI S: Bonus content, added onto an already fun game that has the best of modern and retro Tokyo Mirage Sessions: A fun lighthearted musical adventure with SMT, combined with Fire Emblem Trails into Reverie: A beautiful conclusion of both the Crossbell, and Erebonia arcs, as well as the gateway to Calvard. Best Action RPG Nier Automata: A beautiful, and philosophical story with sexy female robots written by Yoko Taro Trials of Mana Remake: One certain white mage notwithstanding, faithful, and fun remake of a timeless classic Tokyo Xanadu: The perfect fusion of Ys, Trails, and Persona in one neatly wrapped packed. Hopefully we get some news about its sequel. Best tactical RPG: Unicorn Overlord: A simple fairy tale adventure with likable characters you can recruit, as well as a variety of landscapes and simple, but deep tactical combat system Fire Emblem 3 Houses: Very appealing world with 3 distinct routes and characters you're bound to love. I picked the Black Eagles, and I have a Blue Lions run that I need to get to continuing. Live a Live: HD-2D remake of a Japan only game with varying stories and characters that are bound to find their way into the hearts of many Best Square Enix games Octopath Traveler: A game that revolutionized HD-2D style Bravely Default 2: Back to simpler times to give very creative and unique class combinations. And Star Ocean 2 remake: The PLATINUM standard for remakes of classic games. The fun action combat, the varying tale of combining a whimsical fantasy with futuristic sci-fi, but not overshadowing the other.
Love it love it!!! Love ur content David!. Love super Derek! The Kiseki nut! Lets good great video! Thanks Would have been nice to see the shown game title somewhere in the corner tho
happy to see some of my favorites on here! (dragon quest 11 & rune factory 4 special) definitely need to play dqm dark prince. great video with lots of interesting titles I want to check out!
i have almost all the games that were mentioned here, its really good to know that a couple of them are worth it to keep playing, like dragon quest monster joker and harvestella, also i gotta go with fem, i do think dragon quest 11 is the best one on the switch, but all of these are really good choices
Recently completed Ys VIII and what to play Ys IX Monstrum Nox but so much on my backlog at the moment. I still haven't completed Persona 5. Except for The Labyrinth series no surprises on this list, most of these are already in my wishlist. Thank You for the video, makes me even more eager to start some of these.
I recently finished Rune Factory 4 Special, and I have to say it was worth every hour! The entire game was a pure joy to play and immerse myself into the world, It's definitely worth a buy in my opinion. The only games I personally disagree with being on the list are Ys VIII and IX, but that's probably due to the fact I've had bad experiences with both. That said I'm hoping that Ys X will change my opinion on the series as a whole. That said, still need to play DQ11 and Dark Prince.
Great collab, David! Starting the video strong with clearly the best JRPG series on Switch 😉 Everyone had great choices, and it makes me happy to see some of my buddies in this collab!
I always appreciate the collab videos! After hearing Branden recommend Harvestella for the 20th time in multiple videos, I finally decided to order it, let's go!
I am coming in late with the Switch Oled I bought In 2023. I own a few of these games now. I have a list of games I want. I am playing Dragon Quest 11, it is so nostalgic for me, I love it. 😁👍
“Is this a re-upload? Because I’m having the strongest sense of Deja vu right now…” Then everyone starts saying things like thanks for having me on AGAIN and I’m just like sheewwwww, I haven’t gone completely insane (yet) 😅
I think there are some excellent games on this list, but oversights like Shin Megami 5 or P5R over games like Harvestella, was certainly interesting. I have recently started my first DQ11 playthrough, and honestly, I'm pretty bored. Maybe about 5 hours in and struggling to find the motivation to play. Does it get any better or is it likely to be more of the same?
Overall a great video, i was wondering if in the future u could try to hone in on the exclusives? Only half the recommendations were exclusive to the switch, and personally thats what i look for, the switch definitely has some fantastic rpgs pretty much everyone that was recommended i own and have played, but for me if its not exclusive for the switch i will not choose it over the ps5 since its much weaker hardware. I find it very hard to find rpg recommendation videos that really focus on rpgs that are only on switch exclusively.
Haha knew Brandon’s even before watching harvestella still blows my mind absolutely stunning and xenoblade 3 chapter 5 killed me haha Great video David 🙌🙌

You’re welcome anytime!! And I’m super proud of everyone’s pick!

Thank you sooo much for letting be gush over my fave Switch RPG. I added lots of new RPGs to my wishlist too after watching everyone's pick!
Thanks so much for joining in and I’m glad we could help you find your next obsession! lol
Let's go! The Switch is an ultimate beast for RPGs. Thanks for putting this together, David!
It’s a great little machine! Thanks so much for coming on board with the collab!
Another win for Xenoblade 2 ❤️. Honestly this entire list is amazing but Xenoblade 2s characters really drew me in - 👍
Finally someone who understands the greatness of XB2
I love collaborating, especially when so many of my favorite creators get together. Projared, Just The Gems, Kiseki Nut, Backlog and of course David
Love this list! Thanks for having us on David 😊
Thanks so much for coming on board!

Jrpg TH-camers unite i just love a good collaboration 😊

The fact unicorn overlord wasn't selected just shows how much of an jrpg monster switch is, its ridiculous
I probably just completed the best srpg ever, unicorn overlord. definitely worth checking out
Cosmic Star Heroine. The *OG* Switch indie hidden gem RPG.
I love these collaborations, you guys are all swell and always on point in your picks!
What an awesome collab! This is like the Smash Ultimate of videos.
"EVERYONE IS HERE"
By our powers combined, it’s Captain RPG!

I really do think Xenoblade 2 is the best. I know people are hung up on the combat and some blade designs. But Malos and Jin are amazing villains!
recently got a steam deck and its made me fall in love with jrpgs again and this is by far my fav channel to get game recommendations love you brotha
it gets a little demoralizing playing these type of games with my 4080 pc lol

Yes! YS IX made it in the game, one of the best action jrpgs ever made, such a fun combat system and setting
It harkens back to the PS2 era of obscure hack n slash games, great vibes and atmosphere
The Switch Unite or Switch Ultra are the names I want for the successor
Great to see Xenoblade getting some love, my favourite was Xenoblade Chronicles 2, I just loved trying to find the rare Blades.

another excuse for @JustTheGems to talk about Harvestella and I love that.
I bought my v1 switch when it released and never even bother upgrading it to oled but still my currently favorite home console to play with because of the variety of jrpgs available.
The v1 is still great. But the OLED is 100% worth it if you ever have the chance to upgrade down the road when it’s an affordable option
Probably after the switch life span is over and i need the extra console for future preserving i will buy the oled then
if i were one of the youtubers my pick for best rpg on switch is Live a Live
each character is like its own game, each have unique storylines and they even interconnect to each other, the engame also has a massive twist as well, and not to mention the banger soundtrack as well.

What a SUPERSTAR cast you've assembled today! This community is so awesome
Yes they are!!
I always like these videos for some reason. Good to have different perspectives even from people I don't always share tastes with enough to subscribe, I guess.
Still need to get around to playing Harvestella. Picked it up after Paige kept talking it up but still have barely touched it.
Ni no Kuni... My mother had an aneurism and this game makes me cry all the time. And the song is so special. Oliver is the strongest kid I know.
16:11 PS2? Switch? PS1 calls and ask to hold his beer.
I know I said 5 favorites in the premier, but I'm expanding to 3 in the categories of Action, Turn-based, Tactical, and Square-Enix games that are on the Switch.
Best Turn-based RPGs
Dragon Quest XI S: Bonus content, added onto an already fun game that has the best of modern and retro
Tokyo Mirage Sessions: A fun lighthearted musical adventure with SMT, combined with Fire Emblem
Trails into Reverie: A beautiful conclusion of both the Crossbell, and Erebonia arcs, as well as the gateway to Calvard.
Best Action RPG
Nier Automata: A beautiful, and philosophical story with sexy female robots written by Yoko Taro
Trials of Mana Remake: One certain white mage notwithstanding, faithful, and fun remake of a timeless classic
Tokyo Xanadu: The perfect fusion of Ys, Trails, and Persona in one neatly wrapped packed. Hopefully we get some news about its sequel.
Best tactical RPG:
Unicorn Overlord: A simple fairy tale adventure with likable characters you can recruit, as well as a variety of landscapes and simple, but deep tactical combat system
Fire Emblem 3 Houses: Very appealing world with 3 distinct routes and characters you're bound to love. I picked the Black Eagles, and I have a Blue Lions run that I need to get to continuing.
Live a Live: HD-2D remake of a Japan only game with varying stories and characters that are bound to find their way into the hearts of many
Best Square Enix games
Octopath Traveler: A game that revolutionized HD-2D style
Bravely Default 2: Back to simpler times to give very creative and unique class combinations.
Thanks
Would have been nice to see the shown game title somewhere in the corner tho
happy to see some of my favorites on here!

David is back in action I’ll be in Vegas on the strip tomorrow to see 2Pac and Retro City Games
Nice!! Enjoy your time there!
Great list! Wish I had more time to play all of them! Personnally, really liked Xenoblade, Kiseki, Octopath 2 and Ys VIII.
Great collab, David! Starting the video strong with clearly the best JRPG series on Switch 😉 Everyone had great choices, and it makes me happy to see some of my buddies in this collab!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I always appreciate the collab videos!
After hearing Branden recommend Harvestella for the 20th time in multiple videos, I finally decided to order it, let's go!
Hahhahaha! It really is a great game, I really liked it too!
@@davidvinc looking forward to it!
U in the sunglasses and chain look on x u rally pull off the bad boy look 👀🔥
Great collaboration 🎉
Thank you! 🤗
I am coming in late with the Switch Oled I bought In 2023. I own a few of these games now. I have a list of games I want. I am playing Dragon Quest 11, it is so nostalgic for me, I love it. 😁👍
“Is this a re-upload? Because I’m having the strongest sense of Deja vu right now…”
Then everyone starts saying things like thanks for having me on AGAIN and I’m just like sheewwwww, I haven’t gone completely insane (yet) 😅
Can’t wait to watch this later
you just had to mention the chapter 5 ending
Monster hunter stories 2 for me
Perosna is my fave game series. I can't wait for Metaphor refantazio !!!
All bangers for sure!!!
Wuuuhat ! Tarks was born without a beard !? 😮
love the collabs.
10/10 chance justthegems talks about harvestella.
Haha knew Brandon’s even before watching harvestella still blows my mind absolutely stunning and xenoblade 3 chapter 5 killed me haha Great video David 🙌🙌
I'd add Star Ocean 2nd Story R to the list. Such a good game 💪
Super Switch... I am banking on it. Or Switch+. ;)

damn! all stars are here
I see you with that Dorothea thumbnail
I just found Josh the other day because I bought Story of Seasons and he had tips videos.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 really is so good
David’s always cooking ❤️
Thank you! It was hard to get everyone together, but it worked out in the end!
I don't have a switch, but I'll give you engagement
I’ll give Tarks credit for mentioning a game, or games, that I had never even heard of. I am just not into those dungeon crawler games.
Xenoblade Chronicles Def edition all the way for me, one of the best rpgs ever made.
thanks for the video, and here's one for the algo's
Why was nobody talking about Star Ocean Second Story R 😢
