So true but, I think he's still special and people know... I mean he's still an N.F.L quarterback so, at worst he's one of the best 64 quarterbacks in the world. But he was the #1 pick and people expected much more from his career. It HAD TO BE HARD going from being the face of a franchise to being a backup clinging to an N.F.L Roster wondering if you'll ever get another chance.... especially as the years go by and you find yourself a 32 year old who hasn't been a starter for 5 years!

Uhhh plenty of people warn you. You either didn't pay attention or didn't want to hear it. You also saw that happen to people when you were growing up and just ignored it. Keep up.
One thing I’ll never forget about Mariota as a man. There was one interview where he was visibly frustrated after a loss and gave the media attitude and the next day or maybe a 2 days after. He apologized to everyone and they all said he didn’t offend them. He’s a good man.
I am a titans chiefs fan and I can say he might be my favorite QB I've watched, I grew up on his games and as a person he is truly a great guy. Every teamate he has played with has always said great things about him, and you can tell by the way he talks he truly is a great guy. His fall is one of the saddest things in sports imo. He gave everything he had to the Titans but after that injury where he pinched his nerve he just wasn't the same.
He said his Mom told him he wasn’t raised that way and to apologize…i remember that.
This is America though, there is no room or time for apologizing or being ashamed. You gotta take what's yours even if it's not yours

You don’t just become terrible at something you have been great at your whole life, I blame the coaches in the NFL for over coaching and or not adjusting to their players and forcing them to adjust to them and their system, that’s not good coaching IMO!!!

Watching the QB series on Netflix I get Marcus Mariota he’s a different type of dude his leadership style is more leading with action instead of words.

Met Marcus when he at Oregon. You're spot on. Incredibly kind and humble to the point where he could make you forget that he's the best freaking player in the country. Its a shame that thing's haven't gone how I'm sure he imagined, but the dude has accomplished so much on and - off - the - field. He and his wife have given so much back to the community and I have no doubt that he's going to be a great father.
I'm obviously biased AF, Oregon fan and all, but this is some of you're best work, and that's saying a lot because you have an uncanny ability to humanize these dudes. Talking about the athlete is easy, talking about the human being off - the - field is not, and that's why your the GOAT sports content creator.
As a ducks fan I'll always remember the Heisman season and that one playoff game with the Titans where he caught his own TD pass. The guy had all the tools and I think on a less run based offence he probably stays at worst a starter. He needs the ball in his hands and he was in a offense with Derrick Henry who needs the ball in his own hands depriving Mariota as many chances to improvise, he wasn't a game manager he was a creator and that doesn't gel with what the Henry Titans needed.
This happens to a lot of young QBs. Wrong system. Wrong coaches. Plenty of talent just Wrong situation.
Great QBs succeed no matter the situation.

False. Marcus did have a lot of success with the Titans! Marcus didn’t succeed long term because he wasn’t confident and was passive. Not to mention he did have a lot of success with the Titans three winning seasons, setting redzone records, and beating the chiefs in the playoffs. Once he broke his leg he was never the same. I used to watch him at practice all the time and he was always walking with his head down and always seemed uncomfortable in front of the media. He had the right system. He just wasn’t a great fit for the limelight. That’s why he considered retiring until he got a backup job where all the focus wasn’t on him.😂

Steve Young played like ass in Tampa, but went on to have a HoF career in SF. A QB can only work with what their team gives them. You can't shoehorn any QB into any offense, and expect them to excel.

Man, as a man of faith, I'm not gonna lie, one of the hardestcthigs to work past is doing things to the best you know how to do and things out of your control still seemingly going wrong. It truly does feel like a punishment in the moment. It can KILL your confidence.
Constant injuries in his case, ingrained beliefs being challenged, high expectations from everyone around you, etc. all add up.
This documentary was so good! Marcus is a wonderful person and I enjoyed watching him play for the Titans. There will be life after the NFL and his good character will continue to be his greatest asset. 👍🏾

I love this!!! Big Titans fan who lives in hawaii. Loved when we drafted Marcus, but when he broke his leg that sophomore season, he was never the same.
He went to the wrong team that didn’t use him correctly!! Best Oregon QB ever watched him as a freshman at the spring game at Oregon and knew he was the real deal!!
his sophomore season was a great sign. he got hurt and was never the same. sure his scheme didn’t help him the most. But ryan tannehill threw 30 tds with the same team he did. at that point there is no excuse

Arthur smith ran the most play actions, which should’ve played into his strengths. When you’re on a team with AJ brown, derrick henry, a great o line at the time, and A good support of corey davis and jonnu smith you can’t really make excuses for him.

Marcus Mariota was the most hyped I'd been for a Titans draft pick since Vince Young, and he really proved it with the way his career started. Methodical precision on the field, class act off of it. It really felt like he was the future for the franchise.
Despite his setbacks, he's become my favourite NFL player based on just being a solid human being. This video really did him justice, and I appreciate how much of the focus was on his humbleness. Thank you as always, Flem!

As a titans fan he was everything I wanted as the face of the franchise. They didn’t do him no justice with all the changes but injuries happen which also slowed him down. Always wished him the best. Flem-Lo you need a damn documentary show your phenomenal.
Videos like this give me fuel. I've been watching Flemlo for 3+ years and every video pushes me further in my pursuit for the draft. Here I am, a D3 Transfer in the portal having talks with places like App State and South Alabama. With watching every "What happened to" video I learn from professional player's mistakes and WILL NOT follow the negative steps. That being said I value your ability to look so far in depth to a player's positive characteristics and give them the benefit of the doubt for the most part. He is a quiet, positive guy. I met him and he was just relaxed with a ton of people around him. He just had a kid and as a new parent myself, it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that he decided football was a job and his family comes first for him.

I remember, in that Wild Card comeback against the Chiefs, when Mariota threw a block for Derrick Henry near the end of the game so he could get a few more yards for a first down to ice the game. In a game where he did all sorts of wild stuff to put the Titans in the lead, that was the biggest play in my book. That's the kind of dude he was - selfless. That was the guy I wanted on my team. I hope he can get another chance to prove who he is and get that fire back. I really do like him and I believe he has the ability to succeed.
If he was drafted by Andy Reid I think he would have had a good career.He went to an organization that didn’t care, they tried to change him to a Tom Brady type of quarterback
Look at how good Lamar Jackson is right now because of how they built that offense around his strengths, Titans never did that. Mariota is best in a hurry up offense spread type offense, not slow paced huddle offense
Agreed imo mariota suffers from coming in the league 2 or 3 years too early before teams really began to embrace certain college offensive schemes i think mariota would have throved in an offense similar to what kingsbarry had with the short qb in arizona whose name is escaping me at the moment

The QB Netflix special was really interesting. What struck me most is that he simply does not seem like he genuinely believed in himself at any point. Regardless of the words that came out of his mouth, his body language, demeanor, decisions... nothing seemed to indicate he was comfortable in his role. It was almost like he himself did not believe in his own accomplishments. It is not just humility. I think this is a gifted, good person battling his inner demons.
Flem with another sure banger. Was never high on Mariota, personally. Too many manufactured throws in college. Wasn’t tested as a down field passer. He could have been good in the right spot, but he needed to be developed a lot more than advertised coming out of school.

I thought he had a shot to be pretty good, not great. But def good enough to get a 2nd contract with his first team.
@@FlemLoRaps In the right system he could have been great, and I think if you compare him and Winston he probably was the more interesting player to try and build something with but unlike Winston, who is sort of high floor mid ceiling whereas Marcus looked special his first 2 1/2 years showing how much potential there was and the next couple of years showed how the floor needed more work which denied him a second chance at really developing that upside. Also I feel like the QB mold has changed since he was drafted everyone wants an athletic QB who can run and improvise, I feel like in the right situation he'd be sort of a high end second tier QB who could have flashed Elite. I don't think he'd have ever challenged the Mahomes, Herberts, and Allens of the NFL.
Mariota can SLING it and he showed it many times. That whole "manufactured" thing you talking about is corny. My mans could bomb it from the pocket and while moving his feet. You don't get a TD to INT ratio and as many passing yards as he had by constantly doing short little screens. Dude rarely missed and he played with one dude at Oregon who would've made a good NFL receiver. Dude was throwing to a bunch of insurance salesmen and teachers. You should watch more of his game before making such goofy statements.
@@ABreadlessDuck Herbert was similarly called a system guy and soft etc. before his rookie year and he played in a rebuilding period with barely 1 NFL caliber receiver and some of the most bland offensive schemes I've seen as a ducks fan and yet he has turned into a top 7 probably top 5 NFL QB. In the right system and with more luck Mariota is still an NFL starter. Nobody watched the Pac 12 which is why it and it's players reputations were garbage and why it no longer exists.

That was one of my all time favorite memories as a ducks fan watching Jameis just implode, I'm sorry but that was supposed to be a competitive game and it just about went as badly as possible for the noles in the second half.

Was the happiest kid in 5th grade when my favorite college quarterback got drafted to my favorite professional team. Then was the sadest kid a few years later when he was traded to the raiders. He will stay as one of mh favorite players for forever, no doubt, but sad how the story went down. Thank you for this vid flem.

Probably not related, but the video makes me think that he took #0 for a reason. Everyone's talking about DC drafting their franchise QB this year, I hope Marcus can help the rookie develop. In a perfect world, he'd come out throwing dimes to McLaurin and going out on a high note after a couple great years. It may not be likely, but after suffering through Synder for 20+ years, I hope that good people can do well now that he's gone.

Mariota was one of my favorites I ever watched in the collegiate level. My favorite Ducks QB. This one hit me personally. He was a very humble dude and quiet but his play on the field was on another level. In the pros he had signs of greatness but I can see his play and confidence declining. Regardless he shares a special place in our hearts in Eugene.
