Great story telling as always bro, I’m from the UK and got into college football around 5 years ago (not long after watching Tate on QB1) and I feel even more so now that these big 5 star players will be desperate for social media hype, for more NIL deals and quicker money. Make their money in college and not be bothered if they don’t go to the NFL as they could have already made millions, rather than perfecting their craft and working for more

I think if he would’ve been more humble and didn’t rush to stardom, I think he could’ve maybe been a 3-6 year journeyman in the nfl. Maybe Marcus Mariota. He had talent, undeniable but his mind and attention seeking lead him down this road.
See you are wrong. He wasn’t that good. Because he was great in high school does t mean much. Just watch any these top prospects ten years later videos. Very rare they make it

@@emsj86 That’s false on the they rarely make it. See how the star rankings work is 5 ⭐️s are considered to be maxed out physically and athletically. They have the least upside because they are close to their peak. And some have poor work ethic. 4⭐️s are considered to have 2x the amount of upside as a 5⭐️ and a 3⭐️ is considered to have the most upside both physically, skill wise and athletically. There’s only 32 5⭐️s per year and 300 4 ⭐️s and over 1200 3 ⭐️s . So when you look at percentages 5⭐️s and 4⭐️s make it to the pros. There’s always the exception but their pro percentage is over 80% more than double of 3⭐️s. It’s just that most 5⭐️s don’t end up superstars past HS. That distinction goes to 4⭐️s and 3⭐️s.
@@emsj86 My pops works in the recruiting media world. I think I know what I am talking about. The term “least upside “ comes from how much they can grow from where they are at. Meaning they are close to peaking athletically and physically. You know nothing about recruiting and your comment shows.
I’ll never understand why, after OSU he went to another school that had a full QB Room. He could’ve gone somewhere and started right away, get experience, then maybe be a grad transfer to make a push for the NFL.
He was supremely arrogant. Never improved or adjusted his game. He went to the U cause he thought it would make a great story. He just refused to admit that he was not an elite performer.

At first glance when I saw this video thumbnail pop up in my feed, the red line across the bottom tricked me into thinking I’d already watched this at first. I understand as a young kid the desire for the fame and spotlight on the field, we've all done it, we all remember in high-school/college stepping between those lines and living that moment, dreaming it could take us to the top and buy momma that house. But all I can take from this as a new father is sadness man. To take your son, the best thing you could ever create as a man and force feed that young one no other option than your own dream just, idk man, that shit sucks. Dude was talented no doubt but those white lines can't be the end all be all, no matter the dollar sign it may produce at the end. Them dollars ain't worth our boys happiness
Yup daddy ball is very real. Especially if the dad is also the coach. His son will start even if he’s not the best at the position because dad is trying to live through his child.
This old cliche… was the kid unhappy if he was why didn’t he quit? Doesn’t sound like this kid was very unhappy to me just not as good as he thought he was. Still got a free education and got to play QB at some big time schools. If that’s unhappy I know a lot of guys who wish they were that unhappy growing up
Couldn't agree more. My two sons were successful wrestlers in HS & college, but we always stressed having other interests. "It's something you do. It's not who you are." Peace. They both quit before their eligibility expired, and they both got their degrees and had jobs before graduation. They aren't famous, but they're both happy.
Some say the difficulties you experience are actually opportunities...unfortunately if your growth foundation is filled with poor materials they soon become cracks and the foundation cannot support the pillars of character needed to take advantage of those earlier mentioned opportunities. Too bad. "Kids don't come with an owners manual. " 🤣
Thank you Flemlo. You are seriously one of the best creators on TH-cam. Watching you for years. Like a warm blanket. Always comforting to hear your voice spin your stories.
Much Love Flem Lo, I really enjoy the content keep working brother. I think one of Tate’s biggest issues was that he never really found the right situation for him at the next level. I think being in the right place has a huge impact on your outcome.
Hey Flem have you thought about being a Position Coach? I think with your obvious Passion for Football and your experiences you could really help the Young men, in their pursuit of Playing College ball. Keep up the great vids bro.

Love your content bro. Was surprised as hell to know we are both from MS and played HS ball there. Makes me feel like I understand you better now than some can .
Unpopular opinion, but Tate was still able to do something that he loved for nearly 20 years. Every former athlete knows the transitional period when your run ends is tough. I hope Tate is able to leverage his personal brand to find a new purpose. With or without the NFL, Tate deserves to have a happy life!
Flem, I am a 60 year old from London, although I grew up in Minnesota Vikings territory for 20 years. I watch a ton of NFL football, but I have never played the game. I was a DIII golfer and baseball player, and later in the UK a cricket player. All of this leads me to tell you that I am not the profile that might normally be your subscriber. However, I love your channels. I understand your dialogue; I love your video (while you are basically doing an audio show, the video images really make the stories better). You are talented, largely unbiased, and being Vikings fan, you can beat up the AFC and if the Bengals and Vikings ever get to the Super Bowl the same year, we are going to lose....that is our destiny (losses in 1970, 74, 75, 77). Well done Flem.
I honestly believe that the coaches at Ohio State told Tate that they were thinking of giving Justin the job beforehand so he transferred… I can’t believe that he would just transfer from the threat of Justin Fields who hadn’t really played in any games up to that point, it doesn’t make sense for him to transfer otherwise.
Your choice of stories are always an interesting watch, it’s really cool how your thought process works and how you convey your points is as good as it gets lucky me
You're such an inspiration bro. Your grind has been played out before us fans, and it's been a treat to watch you consistently grow and get better. One thing has remained the same throughout, and that's your ability to tell a story. Thank you for bringing me so much joy and entertainment over the years. Positive vibes my friend.
Man I followed this dude Hella close. Living in Vegas and having the number 1 high school football team because of this dude put a good vibe in the city
its funny cause i remember when he tried to clown J.Fields for transferring to O.State. Then he transferred into retirement. He wasnt as good as advertised. That said, yall see how many 100+ runs buddy had?!
I was on a Recruiting trip with an athlete at Ohio State…. got to watch Tate(who was an early enrollee) playing in the spring he was alive quarterback (allowed to be hit) carving up the starting defense. Later that night having dinner with the offensive coaches the coaches had a debate who is the best quarterbacks on the team 1st was Joe burrow 2 Tate Martell this was 2017
Great story, thanks for sharing. What's nuts is that two years later, he couldn't beat out Jarren Williams and N'Kosi Perry. Who were both average at best I think Williams xfered from the U to JUCO and Perry to UCF. Neither became starters again. Another thing left out from this video is that while at Miami, Martell was best known for his Instagram celebrity girlfriend. Seemed more concerned with chasing tail than football.
Keep up the great videos Flem! Tate Martell is a classic example of a kid who was blessed with a lot of talent and felt he had "made it" before he actually did.
I saw him around some training facilities as a 12 year old kid, he was already surrounded by an entourage of coaches who were filling his head with big promises. He seemed like a nice, quiet kid who was just going along with the program
What I appreciate most about Flemlo is how unbiased he is. In every single what happened to video. I know he has to feel some kind of way about some of the athletes he does the videos on but you can never tell it. It’s impossible to find any informational content on anything where the host isn’t trying to lead you to feel the same way they do but Flemlo does is every time!
He honestly should’ve handled things a little bit differently when transferring. When you compare him to someone like Spencer Rattler(also on QB1) who transferred but appeared to humble himself and worked hard not bashing his teammates it’s night and day.
Everybody cant be a star in college and in the NFL. His story is a classic tale of someone that peaked early. Which aint nun wrong with that but it is what it is
Love the story telling and how you never bash these kids bro. I remember watching him in QB1 and thought he was unbelievably talented and figured he would end up being a Steve Young kinda player in the NFL. I'll never forget that scene in the final game when it goes into OT and he completes that pass and wins the game and in the interview he's like "I cant feel my body but man I'm happy to get the job done" I still watch that for a bit of motivation when I need it. Hope he figures it all out.

Played against Bishop Gorman when Tate was their QB at a summer camp at Boise State and they had some of the biggest athletes and granted I’m about 6’6” and weighed around 270 as a sophomore in high school and their line backers were also close to my size 🤣 we got crushed in the scrimmage lol
Sick video Flem.. I’m actually interested in the Todd Maranovich story (unsure if I spelled that correct) I know ESPN did a 30 for 30 on him but I was kinda young and never got to see it! Could you possibly go into that?
Watching this and having coached at the high school level, and also having a son who plays football.. you see what hard work and determination gets you.. and sometimes, unfortunately your best isn't good enough for whatever the reason.. As a parent, my goal is to raise a responsible adult.. as a parent of an athlete, you have to balance keeping them grounded at the same time guiding their self confidence and self esteem..
Great video what luck he had to go up against all those great QBs in college he should have studied the depth charts at his position better before committing to Ohio State
I understand the strict dad. He understands his son has an opportunity to change their lives and make it to the league so he dedicated himself to helping his son
I don’t get why people feel sorry for this guy. He had all the support systems in the world. He came from money. He went to a powerhouse high school. Many athletes come up and go pro, with far less. The guy was entitled and thought his shit smelled like roses.

Bruh just him going to osu is what ruined him and guess what almost ruined burrow had he not transferred. But in tates case he had an already proven college QB in a guy like deriq king transfer to the same school its just bad luck. I agree texas a&m wouldve been better and idk if oregon gave him an offer or not but that wouldve been better too. Honestly I disagree with Flo with the fact that tate wanted fame more then being like Joe burrow. I think he wanted exactly what joe got which was a team that actually believed in him and built an offense for him. i just feel like he had a bad run of luck. Choosing both of the colleges he did just didnt work out. He shouldnt have switched positions when he got to Miami even though he got outplayed he couldve done what Malik Willis did which was go to a school no one knew of and balled out. He had way more eyes on him and wouldve been a first one mock draft QB like willis. Yes this new qb class coming into the draft is week but tate had the clout and fame to still make him one if he aimed lower.

Your spot on about this kid...even when he gave up it was all about him. How do you "RETIRE" from something you NEVER did professionally?
I mean college athletes are pretty much minor pro players at those levels. They are being provided a scholarship, food, housing, and the top training facilities and gear-merchandise. And the NIL kind of changes that even more recently. But he wasn't on no nfl team, that's for sure
Seeing Flem with his son is the most wholesome thing I’ve seen all year. Beautiful 🥲
You’re a good man Flemlo. You don’t dog on these kids, you don’t put them down, you try and understand their perspective and situation. Seem like a smart, good dad also. Keep it up
Since you brought him up, You got to do a video on Todd Marinovich now 🙏🏽
Just watch the 30 for 30 on him.
Thats sad frfr
He don't need a 30 for 30
Didn't*
It’s tough; Jt Barret was so cold he made me a Ohio state fan and I wished he got a chance in the nfl like Taylor Henicke
Best comment right here, i was so surprised when he went undrafted
Great story telling as always bro, I’m from the UK and got into college football around 5 years ago (not long after watching Tate on QB1) and I feel even more so now that these big 5 star players will be desperate for social media hype, for more NIL deals and quicker money. Make their money in college and not be bothered if they don’t go to the NFL as they could have already made millions, rather than perfecting their craft and working for more
Who do you know that’s competitive like these athletes and is like “ok, I’ve made enough money”?
Pretty dope you’re a college football fan way in the the UK
@@ricomartinez3771 a lot of athletes are 😂 not everyone is like Tom Brady willing to take pay cuts and do whatever it takes to win. Look at all these WR’s right now trying to get the bag or asking for a trade to a far worse situation.
To be clear, I don’t have a problem with that mentality to get the $$$ while you can especially with how cruel of a business football can be. Just outlining the point that a lot more players have that mindset than you think.
Man, you are a class act.
Even with this tittle, you went through the whole video without mention of his texting dissing the opponent during halftime as seen on QB1. (and following lies to cover it up)
Excellent storytelling as always, Flem. Love how your storytelling got good lessons to learn.
Could you one day do a video re: Art Schlichter?
He the best!
How this man hasn’t hit 1 mill subs yet is beyond me. Keep killin it bro
I love Flemo Raps videos! Great deep dive and 100% production values! Keep it up bro!
Discovered this channel in the last week. FlemLo is LEGIT - and this is coming from a Browns fan.
Thank you Flem great story , man you have big talent at story telling.
Great job my man !!!
You're a gifted storyteller FlemLo. 95% of football players have their own sob story of how they didn't make it to the pros and you can make every one of them entertaining to listen to.
@flemlo.... Bro you're truly amazing at what you do. Never stop, brother. Killing the game, with your pure brilliance when it comes to these vids
Very rare they make it
He was really good on a GREAT TEAM! The hugh school he transfered to was on their 5th straight state championship! He was great on his old high school team that had mediocre competition.
@@traviejr315 no 5 star isn’t someone who has the least upside. Take that pipe out your mouth
The spotlight was what he after man. What city in this country is flashier than Miami?
He was supremely arrogant. Never improved or adjusted his game. He went to the U cause he thought it would make a great story.
He just refused to admit that he was not an elite performer.
Hey man! Huge fan, been watching your videos for years. Not sure if this matters but I figured I’d mention it just in case. At first glance when I saw this video thumbnail pop up in my feed, the red line across the bottom tricked me into thinking I’d already watched this at first. I actually scrolled down past it before I did a double-take and realized this was new and I hadn’t seen it yet. Not sure if this matters but I just wanted to let ya know in case it’s happening to anybody else who at first glance is convinced they already saw your video and don’t click. I could be overthinking this lol
Flem, thank you for awesome storytelling and compassion. You show everyone love and respect. The world needs more Flemlo!
As usual phenomenal video. As an Ohio State fan I was so excited for this guy and hopefully he can do something great in the future !
Best comment.
Wholesome
Humility is key in these situations.
How did you call him Martell Tate so many times. I know my man’s is better than that.
Dude this driving me crazy! Haha If someone didn't know who he was you'd have no idea what his first name was haha
I watched this whole video and still have no idea what his first name is
Japanese Style
Fareal man it was driving me crazy. Made him look like it was his first time making a video
Bro you be finding stories, I know you don’t see these probably, but if you do, your work is great brother, I’m proud of you God bless
Much Love Flem Lo, I really enjoy the content keep working brother. I think one of Tate’s biggest issues was that he never really found the right situation for him at the next level. I think being in the right place has a huge impact on your outcome.
Brooo it’s been a while since I’ve seen one of your videos and man you’ve gotten so good! Keep it up man this content is gold!!! 🔥
Hey Flem have you thought about being a Position Coach? I think with your obvious Passion for Football and your experiences you could really help the Young men, in their pursuit of Playing College ball. Keep up the great vids bro.
Wonder how much time goes into making these videos. Does a good job telling these stories👌🏼
My guess is with research and editing, you're looking at an hour for each minute of content.
Been watching this man for 5 years and the cue the Wayne’s just get more bad ass, grimy and get me more pumped up every time. I mean that with all due respect.
Love your content bro. Was surprised as hell to know we are both from MS and played HS ball there. Makes me feel like I understand you better now than some can .
Long time subscriber, First video I’ve had the opportunity to watch in some time. You’re the best man!
Your videos are always great, thank you for making them.
Best comment by Flem Lo...these kids don't come with no 'damn' owners manual. Preach!
Great Vid Flemlo I swear you never miss you are always on point with these
man long day of collage classes and some real iffy news from the doctor… this is what i needed
Hope whatever the news is, that you’re OK. Now let’s kick back and enjoy the vid.
@@JohnDaDong93 nothing too serious hopefully but i appreciate the well wishes, and video was immaculate as what’s considered the norm atp
I honestly believe that the coaches at Ohio State told Tate that they were thinking of giving Justin the job beforehand so he transferred… I can’t believe that he would just transfer from the threat of Justin Fields who hadn’t really played in any games up to that point, it doesn’t make sense for him to transfer otherwise.
no they wouldn’t
Agree
That said, yall see how many 100+ runs buddy had?!
yea i get into that too lol
broooo u in your own lane. You gotta be one of the greatest story tellers I have ever heard. Genuinely impressed.. . Flemlo Da 🐐🐐🐐
I was on a Recruiting trip with an athlete at Ohio State…. got to watch Tate(who was an early enrollee) playing in the spring he was alive quarterback (allowed to be hit) carving up the starting defense. Later that night having dinner with the offensive coaches the coaches had a debate who is the best quarterbacks on the team 1st was Joe burrow 2 Tate Martell this was 2017
Nice story. Seriously. This is cool
Dayum that's crazy. Weren't they the 3rd and 4th string behind haskins and the other dude? I wish tate had stuck it out and battled it out with fields
You kept calling him Martell Tate. Like...a lot. Lol. It's ok though. Nobody cares about Tate Martell. You're still the man.
He was just addressing him James bond style. Martell, Tate. 😂 na i noticed the same thing. Shit happens and sometimes it's not worth re recording
Thinking maybe it's a joke
Love your content bro! Tnx
Lol @ “like a lot”..lol I thought I was tripping at first😐🤷🏾♂️lol
Tomato, tomatoe
Flemlo hasn't been on my TH-cam timeline in a while so when this popped up I watched the whole thing and wow. What a story teller. I almost forgot
I saw him around some training facilities as a 12 year old kid, he was already surrounded by an entourage of coaches who were filling his head with big promises. He seemed like a nice, quiet kid who was just going along with the program
Flemlo, the music, the commentary, and your wise observations make these so insightful. I love your work...all the best
Love your content
thanks bro
You welcome fam
What I appreciate most about Flemlo is how unbiased he is. In every single what happened to video. I know he has to feel some kind of way about some of the athletes he does the videos on but you can never tell it. It’s impossible to find any informational content on anything where the host isn’t trying to lead you to feel the same way they do but Flemlo does is every time!
And above he doesn’t clickbait like MattTheGreat
He honestly should’ve handled things a little bit differently when transferring. When you compare him to someone like Spencer Rattler(also on QB1) who transferred but appeared to humble himself and worked hard not bashing his teammates it’s night and day.
Perfectly said
Everybody cant be a star in college and in the NFL. His story is a classic tale of someone that peaked early. Which aint nun wrong with that but it is what it is
@@MIGGYME1 facts I just hate when talent is wasted
It shouldn’t take hard work “not to bash your teammates”…
I’ve been on TH-cam for a very long time and I’ve only subbed to like 3 or 4 things lmao man’s really on another level with story telling
Tate's real problem is that he stopped growing at 5'11 and he never learned to play as a short qb.
NFL would of grabbed em.. wrong. College bad mentorship
His height wasn't his problem there's plenty of quarterbacks now under 6 foot
Now not before
Great to hear you acknowledge that empty feeling of reaching a goal and not being satisfied like you were expecting.
That Martell Tate...
He had a legendary high school career and got beat out by college all-timers at OSU. Nothing to be ashamed of! Not everyone can be a starting NFL QB.
Or college lol
@@rinowatson right! He should’ve transferred after his first year but his pride won out.
@@yoyo41210 come on man that was just shit luck. None of new they qb room he was stepping I to at the time. Got dam look at what Joe burrow had to do to get where he's at. I thought tate talked too much on Twitter and should've battled it out with Justin fields.
Been a huge fan going on 4 years strong , been locked in wit U Flemlo since the first time stumbling on your page . Keep us laced with these dope videos man glad to be apart of the gang . Que da wayneeeeee 🎉🎉 !!
Where do they grow kids that big, goddamn
Best channel on TH-cam for all types of football info I can listen for hours on end thank you for all your excellent work
Does anyone know why he keeps calling him “Martell Tate”?
No clue
He says names backwards like my father in law😂
More great, well thought out takes.
Huge fan of Martell after watching QB1. Highschool phenom, sucks it didn’t work out for him
he was cold in high school. i go through his numbers in the video...they're insane
Huh. First time I’ve seen one of your videos pop up, and I really enjoyed it. Great work man
Sick video Flem.. I’m actually interested in the Todd Maranovich story (unsure if I spelled that correct) I know ESPN did a 30 for 30 on him but I was kinda young and never got to see it! Could you possibly go into that?
If you have Hulu, you can go to the ESPN special and watch it.
the crime in sports podcast has a great episode about him
He was the best qb ever , just thst he got into hard drugs.
Such a detailed and amazing video !! Good job flemo you never disappoint
“These kids don’t come with a damn owners manual” 😂😂😂 This is why I love FlemLo
16:40 “Martell Tate”
BRO I just rediscovered your channel I used to watch you all the time in 2018-2019 GGs my boy!! CUE THE WAYNE!!!!
I don’t get why people feel sorry for this guy. He had all the support systems in the world. He came from money. He went to a powerhouse high school. Many athletes come up and go pro, with far less. The guy was entitled and thought his shit smelled like roses.
I feel bad for that poor kid who only way out was football, but they end up fucking it up in college not these rich asses dudes
This story about martell tate is crazy! If you want to hear an even crazier one, you should do tate martell next! ;) great job as always, flem! Who Dey
i always wanted to know what happened to him after QB1, cant believe its already been like 6 years
I feel the rise of Johnny Manziel made the hype train for Tate go crazy. As he was seen as the next coming of Johnny.
For once, Manziel was the better QB 😂 😂
On another note, @FlemLo Raps Dude i hope you become a MULTI-MILLIONAIRE i really do man. I really do, you work so hard and you do it so well. Please God, continue to Bless this man and get the right EYES on him. Dude is TOO special for just TH-cam.
Haven't seen a video in a while, but that second angle adds a lot to the production value.
U kept calling him Martell Tate... 😆....
You're pretty wise. You always got some sick ass knowlege to drop and l appreciate you bro
This comment is nothing but cap. I knew there was gonna be some goober in this comment section blaming Ohio State for something using Joe burrow as the worst example possible.
@@IllMatic97 wasnt saying he could be as good as burrow all i pointed out was thats how talented the QB room was. I said he shouldve done what Malik Willis did and go to a small school. How about you read the comment before saying ignorant shit?
One of the realest sports pages on TH-cam
Tate Martell happened to Tate Martell?
i mean more or less lol...
