      You should get ahead of everyone (and go outside your usual videos) and make a video on CURRENT Nvidia Prices. The 2070 Super which I got for 400 USD(Gigabyte) is now 700 USD and up. Of course a WHY would be ideal but simply reporting it would be great, outrageous. I doubt is scalpers/miners.

    Hey fun fact about phillips screws: The design was bought by henry ford for use in his factories by people with non torque limited screw guns. The bit is actually designed to cam out of the screw when the proper torque is reached, so people with limited skill can use the gun to assemble components without stripping the holes.

    • @markiangooley
      @markiangooley 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Yes. The square-drive (Robertson) screw popular in Canada and for making mobile homes (no clue why) and fine furniture (understandably) is designed NOT to cam out, by contrast.

      WD40 helps a lot better. I had a vinyl wrap on my laptop that I replaced and it took AGES (read this in: days) to remove that residual glue from it using alcohol. With WD40 (or another analog, contact spray perhaps?) it took me 10 min tops. It does not damage plastics or electronics at all. I only used alcohol afterwards to remove the shine WD40 leaves behind.

    You have saved my sanity. I bought a 3070 and one fan was on 200% when the system powered on. I watched this video and saw the fan headers latch, and thought... hmm what if someone didnt seat it properly. Removed the backplate and low and behold.. the locking latch was up on my problematic fan, re-seated and re-installed and my god it's fixed! Without this video I would have probably tried to RMA it and not had a card till next year.

    When measuring hole spacing its much easier to measure from edge of the hole to the edge of the hole rather than guessing where the middle of the hole is. The hole pitch (aka centre to centre) is the same no matter where you measure it as long as you use the same point on both holes

    Looking at the thermal pad on the back, to me it looks like it's mostly there for rigidity.
    It's in the middle of the open area of the backplate, by adding a thermal pad there the backplate will probably bend in less.
    My guess is that's also why they did not bother removing the plastic underneath.

Make the card a bit bigger and make the fins go right to left all the way not just that small part next to the fan, another cange id make it flip the shroud so the S is the other way the the long part with the geforce bit it on the i/o side on the card.

    For general information, the thermal pads are 1.5 mm. You don't need Fujipoly (good if you can get it though as its top end stuff). Thermalright Extreme Odyssey 1.5mm will do. Just make sure you get 12.8w/mk. Generally, its something of a moot point as you'll only need this if you total the thermal pads in taking it apart, which you are unlikely to do. Just whack it back on, and you'll be okay.

      Are you certain? I can for the love of me find the actual size of these pads anywhere (well, I could get a caliper which I'm very close doing I guess). Many users are saying 1.5mm, others 2.0mm, I've even read about squishy 3.0mm. I know it depends on the hardness of the pads you're going for, but in general, most pads won't lose much of their thickness.

      @@buicktothemoon Gotcha, thanks for the info. I'll probably get a big enough pump to expand a "custom loop" to the cpu eventually. My NZXT AIO is working excellent for now though. My wife would kill me if I put $500 more into my PC 😆. So I'll shoot for half that, with just a loop to the gpu, and expand later. I'm also still trying to get a 3080 for msrp, so there's another $800 off to the side. Just watching Best Buy and crossing my fingers each drop. Maybe I'll get a lucky when the ti's drop. No way I'm paying $2800 for a 3080 though. That's almost 2 3090s... Dang miners! 🤣

    Small piece of advice: Don't use sewing machine oil on these fans. As you can see, the bearing is uncovered - unlike other fans that are completely covered by a sticker. Sewing machine oil's low viscosity means that even a small amount it will get absolutely everywhere when it is spinning because the bearing is uncovered. Unfortunately, the way the fan is constructed means you cannot cover the bearing yourself, not unless you want to stop the fan from spinning. To stop leakage, use a Super Lube Loctite oil pen, as it has higher adhesion and higher viscosity. You'll have to work it in using a quetip and keep spinning it in your hand for about 5 to 10 mins, but it will eventually work its way in. You only need a very small amount, but this stuff doesn't leak at all, lasts much longer and won't cause a short even if it does leak.
