Let's make this very clear...people always have a problem! I am fair skinned and Italian. My family always called me "ghost" and urged me to tan as I "looked like a dead person"...Truth, I am not even that fair skinned when compared to an English woman. I spent entire days under the sun to fit that standard of beauty when I realised that I had damaged my skin and now I have deeper wrinkles for my age. I embraced my fair skin and I still love when I am tanned but I also love when I am not. Do not let people set standard for you! They always have a problem. Stay away from bigots and keep close good people. My dad used to say that I am too skinny hence unattarctive, my mum that I am too pale, my brother that I am too short...Objectively, I am a beautiful girl and I love being the way I am.

I’m from the Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago) I share similar features that you do, and unfortunately similar experiences. I’ve always been reprimanded because of my dark skin and even told to bleach it as well. I also find it strange that people don’t embrace melanin in Indians as much... but I’ll never change for anyone I’m happy as I am and idc who says otherwise. ❤️☺️
I've been watching these types of videos on and off for about a month now. I'm a black male, who as a youth was called "high yellow" due to having lighter skin. And to be completely honest it bothered me to some extent. But I've long gotten over other peoples hangups and obsessions about skin. I hope if anyone is struggling with other peoples obsessions about your skin, you can find the love and support of those who will accept you for who you are. Certainly not by the color of your skin. Whether you're dark brown, light brown, olive, pink, alabaster, very dark or very light, know that if your heart is good that's truly all that matters in life.
Nina- I totally TOTALLY understand exactly what you are saying!! I grew up with LOTS of Indians and it's really REALLY sad to see how the dark skinned ones were looked down on and passed over in marriage-- and I'm a christian and this happened in my church ALL THE TIME!! I grew so resentful of the ppl who brought this racism into the church on some very beautiful women. This caste system in India has ruined that nation's idea of beauty. Trust me as a black person I KNOWWWW what it is to called and treated ugly. You see how it is in the USA- Black is considered the most undesirable. smh. sad. love your skin and keep encouraging others that they are beautiful no matter how dark they are. I hate seeing white looking Indian women always the ones representing India. You all have some stunning gorgeous dark women. Some remind me of liquid chocolate-- lol. Thank you for this video-- and stay beautiful Nina!!!!
I had a huge problem with this growing up and I feel like it’s really just gotten worse over the years but in some ways it’s gotten better. I’m 20 now and it’s the first time I’ve looked up a video on how to love my dark skin. I remember vividly being 12 or so looking up how to bleach my skin with something homemade. It’s sad how this has affected me so traumatically. And listening to you talk about this and hearing you hold back the tears really got to me and the younger version of me. Thank you
Just today I got to know, that my cousin sister rejected her marriage by saying that the boy she was supposed to be marry, is too much black as me. I know, things like this will keep repeated, I'm facing it since my childhood, starting from my family, then neighbours, school, college now office. The society will keep reminding me for my colour in terms of comment and I'll always smile 🙂 in return.
Hey Nina, I can sense the pain in your voice. I too have been embarsment in public, family functions several times. Each time I try to stand with confidence, there'll some nasty incident pulling down my confidence. Anyways trying hard to stay strong.. celebrate life!
This is so true, I think it’s soo embedded in our mentalities that it’s really tough to feel good about ourselves, but you are truly beautiful and intelligent ❤️
Yes girl love yourself even when society trys to tell you otherwise this is real af. Everyone needs to watch this... It's a huge problem within the black community too... It's worldwide... "pretty for a dark girl" you are pretty period
These family members and people around us who dislike themselves love to project their self dislike/hate on us. It's hard to ignore, but empower yourself. You are a good looking lady. Glad you shared your thoughts with us🤎💫
I saw the movie "Mississippi Masala" when it came out about 20 years ago. Denzel Washington character falls in love with this Indian girl. I saw the movie because I saw the actress on the movie poster and that is what made me buy the ticket. There is a scene in the movie where a whole lot of Indian girls make comments about light skin vs dark skin and me, being Black, did not even know there was situation like that. There has always been stuff like that in the Black community and, I understand it is a little like that in the Latin communities also. What the hell? What ever you are, wear it with swagger.
Interesting. As an Indian I'm only know realising that this is also prevalent in the black community outside India after reading so many comments here. In India people say its because of the colonial rule which was for 300+ years. How do you think this developed in the black community? ( Africans/african americans )

I always felt the same! I’m from the US and I’m very, very pale. When I was in school I got teased when I wore skirts for how white my skin was, and the Italian side of my family always told me to go outside to tan because I looked “sick.” But then I’d go into the sun and burn, then get made fun of for that. You can’t win! Skin tone should NEVER be trendy, one way or the other. Healthy, glowing skin in any color is all that matters! 🌟
Imagine living with such narrowed way of thinking, believing that lighter skin tone is the ultimate beauty. I feel bad for them cuz they don't see the beauty in any other skin tone. Only if everyone paused and asked why do they think the way they do.
I'm sorry that this is still going on in India and America! In my twenties, I tried to bleach my skin to look even more mixed than I am. I grew up listening to adults talking about how the light skin girls are pretty! As a result, I thought I was ugly far into my twenties. My point? You are brave and young; stay that way forever! You might disappoint many people who try and force their narrow-minded ways on you, but don't ever change. Your skin color is flawless btw! P.S. Many people think I am from India when I straighten my hair! Lolssss
awww you are so sweet. Thank you for understanding my struggle. I am happy God created me the way I am, regardless of what society defines as an ideal skin color.
You are beautiful Nina. I am an Indian from Malaysia and everthing you say resonates. Only in my 50s, i learnt to accept and love my skin tone. It also didnt help that the makeup available from off the counters didnt have foundation tones for the tanned race. Its really silly, come to think of it. But society and peers have been notorious for this. We need to be comfortable in our skin and celebrate it. Love you!
what's crazy is that God is dark and he made man in his image. the reason dark skin is attacked is because of the abundance of melanin that connects you to God. please don't let the devil fool you, melanin is a blessing and lack there of is the curse.
Ana It's time to face the truth the original man and woman were people of dark color as science has proven. The bible says that man was made in God's image. If this is true what does that tell you. Next do some research on how much melenin is studied, do you think science is spending billions of dollars for nothing?
Tell that to the those dealing with skin cancer and the like. Once again the first man and woman, who were melenated beings, were created in God's image. Facts are facts
Regina OLIVER My sister The Most High made man in his image and science has proven the melenated man was the first man. The reason you are under attack is that Satan knows you look like your father. Please remember that melanin is a direct connection to your father. It is a true gift from GOD.

I think that’s how it is all over the world, I remember when I was a little girl my brother & sisters went out with our grandmother , and her friend told her that we were dark & ugly & my grandmother didn’t say anything to her,and I remember how sad I was, but years later I still remember that, and I asked my grandmother why she didn’t defend us ? and she said, well you guys are dark, my grandmother was white & our dad was very dark, am not ashamed of my color, but I would never hurt a kid that was so horrible of that lady to called us ugly just because we were not light skinned, very sad 😢
My daughter who is your colour, I will always call her karuppa, lovingly. She has been to U.S for a medical training to Atlanta in 20/21. She will be there permanently soon !
Ok answer me this. If Indians are just as dark and sometimes even darker then African Americans, then why do you guys be so racist towards us? I'll be waiting for your response!
planestrainsandautomobile she can't give response on behalf of everyone in India..India is not race it's nation with many races ,languages and skintones.....due to which they have lot's of discrimination among themselves They are also racist towards each other .., many factors and years of brainwashing is responsible for it.

You are the only Indian woman I have heard or seen to do this, now this is what I call true self love💛🙌🙌🙌 . Thank you for owning your beautiful melanin
So happy to have seen this video. It's so interesting to hear other cultures dealing with the same struggles as black people, except for the fact that most black households do not promote staying lighter. I myself would be considered light skinned, however my grandmother on my father's side is Black and Indian (India) so I struggle with hyperpigmentation in the same places most India do, under the eyes, my lips, and hands as well. For so long I hated how my skin would tan, until I saw dark skinned Indian women online. I got to see a part of me that I didn't get to grow up around, and not only did it allow me to embrace my heritage, it taught me to love my melanin because I felt I wasn't alone anymore. I always felt like I didn't fit in anywhere because my family is so diverse. Black, America, Indian, German, West Indies, and Islander. However, I have found that it is what makes my beauty unique, and special. I share melanin from ancestors all over the world, and I'm so grateful to be able to learn more about how I came to be. Ty for sharing this sis! We are all beautifully made as God intended.
My son is half Bangladeshi and I’m Spanish... he has a almost ur same skin tone but me and my Spanish family always tell him how gorgeous he is but for whatever reason he hates his skin tone and he wishes he was light like me and my family it breaks my heart that he is not happy no matter what we tell him
I'm a South Indian my skin is little dark and i was bullied bcz of this, by frnds and even my family. And finally at the age of 20 i don't have any friends, weak connections with relatives, hate to take a picture of mine,no lover, isolating myself from everyone, lack confidence, sometimes I even hate myself because i feel like i'm too much ugly. 😪😪
this video just makes me so emotional to see how much of a mental control beauty standards can have over us women where it consumes us so much. I'm very light skinned however i'm extremely insecure about other things that i think about everyday that makes me feel so depressed. something like the way we were born causes us so much pain. why? i hate this.
It is not so much for us to accept ourselves, it is for OTHERS to see the beauty of you and for them to come to terms with their short sightedness. May God bless you richly. Actually, He already has, he gave you decadently beautiful, rich, smooth dark skin and a gorgeous heart. Thank Him every day.
That story is so sad tbh you are so beautiful and I’m not just saying that. You have absolutely stunning features. I am also Indian and colorisim is still very prominent in our community. My whole life I was also so confused why in Bollywood and Indian media why they show light skin women.MELANIN IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just love yourself and move on to more important factors. You are dark skinned. Live with it.....move on. Make yourself stronger in loving yourself. The problem is not yours....it's others. Stop wasting energy on this. Black is beautiful....love yourself.

Thank you! It's nice to know I'm not alone.
I'm so glad you reached a point of self acceptance! The world will never be happy so we might as well be happy with ourselves.
Thank you so much Nina!
@@NinaThomas why do People from UK, France,Germany,Russia and USA want Tan skin while People from India,Korea,Nigeria,Ghana and China want pale skin ?
@@raimaraudreyrjellalarahern5132 humans are never satisfied with what they have, and always want the opposite.
I like dark skin women, I'm dark skin too nothing wrong with the Chocolate.
EMR80 do you like dark skin black women?
@@serenitywellness4 Yes, I dated a woman from South Sudan. She was very Dark and she had some fine friends. I wish we never lost contact, but that's a different story. Sorry for late response.
She was Darker than me. Shout to out South Sudan. The Whole Sudan period.
Your skin is beautiful! I think Indians have a gorgeous array of skin tones. Don't be ashamed.
Nina, black skin is so, so beautiful. You are stunningly beautiful. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Your skin is EVERYTHING ♥️. Thank you for sharing. You're an inspiration for young people with beautiful melanin!!
Aww, thank you so much!
Nubian Latte are you from Guyana???
I had a huge problem with this growing up and I feel like it’s really just gotten worse over the years but in some ways it’s gotten better. I’m 20 now and it’s the first time I’ve looked up a video on how to love my dark skin. I remember vividly being 12 or so looking up how to bleach my skin with something homemade. It’s sad how this has affected me so traumatically. And listening to you talk about this and hearing you hold back the tears really got to me and the younger version of me. Thank you
Well said Nina! Our skin is something we should be proud of and the opinions of those who make us think differently of our skin are just invalid
Thanks :) We should bond this week! I heard you're coming to NACOG.
+Nina Thomas I am!! I'm arriving there on friday👍🏽
U are absolutely gorgeous & bright & honest ... your internal & external is beauty is only invisible to blind ones !
Bless u girl
You are so beautiful, very exotic looking, embrace your beauty, God didn't make no mistakes!
I’m African American and I love how dark skinned Indian women look
I like how dark skin Indians look in general
Your message is so beautiful
The struggle is real. I can't even find the words to say how much I love this video, your beautiful and an inspiration 😓❤️
The more people try to bring me down. The more I love myself. I know my worth, they could never pass on their mental disease on me. I am beautiful!
This is so true, I think it’s soo embedded in our mentalities that it’s really tough to feel good about ourselves, but you are truly beautiful and intelligent ❤️
You are beautiful - I honestly don't care what colour anybody is..........
dayum I'm so Sory his is the experience! thank you for being so vulnerable to share and open this dialogue!
Yes girl love yourself even when society trys to tell you otherwise this is real af. Everyone needs to watch this... It's a huge problem within the black community too... It's worldwide... "pretty for a dark girl" you are pretty period
Nina you are absolutely gorgeous!
I love this video. I'm so glad to hear your story. Thank you for being so bold and sharing it.
Of course! Thank you for watching. :)
Loved this video (even though im not indian 💖💖) love your channel x
I think it's because as people of color, we get it. We have that same colorism nonsense in our own community.
You're beautiful! 😘
Our community is very close minded. We have to talk about it because otherwise this is never going to change.
You should never be ashamed of your dark skin. The Father made us this way...you are beautiful
Your dark skin is so beautiful.
My girlfriend is nearly as dark as you and I love it. It looks good on her. Just subscribed.
This breaks my heart.
it breaks my heart too! thankfully, I have grown from this.
u look pretty . I am also a darkskined indian
You’re beautiful ASF just for the record 😏❤️
I absolutely love your skin tone
Great video , well said , Yes alot of people are prejudiced , just because of skin tone. You are beautiful. Just know that😀
You are beautiful ...you are very attractive ❤️
Don’t let anyone tell you differently! Don’t seek VALIDATION from people. Validation and self-worth comes from within, from our Creator. You said it yourself, you are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Cherish the way you were created. There’s only one YOU
You Are My Inspiration 🤲🏽💜 In America Its Easy But I Struggle With Self Identify So Much....
You are so sweet! I have some more videos on topics that are related. Maybe they could help you out?

Great vid sister!!!!
-I just want to say that whether you're a male or female
-You should love your skin tone no matter what
-You don't need to be Pale for being beautiful
-Change your thinking!
-Change the world!
-Start from yourself don't wait for world to change!
-In UK and US people hate their -pale skin they wan TAN dark skin
That we Indians usually have
-Love your dark or dusky skin tone
-Am not saying being pale is not pretty
-Am just saying that being PALE only
Doesn't means being beautiful ❤️
-Every Skin colour is beautiful and unique in its own way
-Stop wasting your money on skin whitening or tanning rather than that spend it on helping someone!
-There are many around us we just need to take 1 step!
And
Please
-Love Yourself
-Because if you won't no one else can love you either
-Be confident in Your beautiful skin colour that God and Your parents have given you
-IGNORE dumbshit of illiterate psychotic haters
They'll bark forever don't waste your time to satisfy them
-Don't be A FOOL!
Love yourself Unconditionally
Love XO😊❤️💛❤️💛❤️
yes, we SHOULD love ourselves! :)
aww man....inspiring!! thanks for doing this Nina, God made us all perfect and unique! you are awesome :) :) #teamproudofwhoiammeanttobe
Thank you Isikeli :) You are so right, God made us exactly as we should be.
Your skin complexion is beautiful your message really touched my heart❤❤❤
Imagine living with such narrowed way of thinking, believing that lighter skin tone is the ultimate beauty.
I feel bad for them cuz they don't see the beauty in any other skin tone.
Only if everyone paused and asked why do they think the way they do.
Yes! Preach!
"He created me this way."
Amen!
It is a true gift from GOD.
true!
Exactly!
i have went thru all tis earlier ppl had problm.wit my skin color. now.married to a fair guy its love marriage they have problm tat he is fair and i am not. now have learnd to ignore... in india being fair is beautiful...
I'm so sad that happened to you, but despite what they think- you are beautiful.
usha rao same story im little dark and my fiance is fair , and my fiance want me to become fair. he said take whitening injections or medicine. i was so upset. then i simply tell him that if you are ok with it so its good but if u have a problem with my skin tone then please break this relation here ,, after that he never ask me about that God made me like this and im ok with it.
You're totally hot!!..Thought you should know that!!
You are actually quite light skinned for an Indian most Indian are very dark
Jatt Punyal apparently not to the Indians that discriminate against her
Not the point
I think that’s how it is all over the world, I remember when I was a little girl my brother & sisters went out with our grandmother , and her friend told her that we were dark & ugly & my grandmother didn’t say anything to her,and I remember how sad I was, but years later I still remember that, and I asked my grandmother why she didn’t defend us ? and she said, well you guys are dark, my grandmother was white & our dad was very dark, am not ashamed of my color, but I would never hurt a kid that was so horrible of that lady to called us ugly just because we were not light skinned, very sad 😢
always remember that the darker the berries the sweeter the juice lol I love dark skinned women
@MostEnigmatic huh? Indians are more closer to black culture then white ..they're farthest thing from white skintone wise & culturally..
planestrainsandautomobile she can't give response on behalf of everyone in India..India is not race it's nation with many races ,languages and skintones.....due to which they have lot's of discrimination among themselves
They are also racist towards each other .., many factors and years of brainwashing is responsible for it.
Jordan Williams actually Indians are mixed with Europeans , arab, and Persian . FYI
@@xtinerox071 well not all.
I remember the same comments after playing outside as a kid. I tan easily. And I appreciate you addressing people just saying theirs products to make you light skin, (like that's a good solution to low self esteem) it's absolutely sad. ❤️💕❤️
It's actually very annoying that dark/light skin thing.
I am indian from Trinidad I love this skin tone
White skin is wonderful, but black is beautiful.
Wow this video exploded. Great topic. We talk about things like this at work all the time. Bi weekly we have anti racism discussions. also you got pretty vulnerable here, thanks for sharing.
No problem! And yes, it's my most viewed video and still brings in most of my watch time which is insane considering that it's just one video!
Wow, it has been so long since I first posted this video. Thank you for your kind comments and support. I am now learning to love the skin I’m in!

Have you ever struggled to embrace parts of who you are?
✊🏿 love your melanin it’s so beautiful especially in the sun. People wish they had it. It’s a gift from God. It absorbs energy too. You are beyond beautiful
In the Uk you'd be hiding in doors all the men would be trying to sweep you off your feet
A very wise saying. You are dark and beautiful...unique.. God bless you sister.
Thank you! God bless you too :)
You are the only Indian woman I have heard or seen to do this, now this is what I call true self love💛🙌🙌🙌 . Thank you for owning your beautiful melanin
You are beautiful. As a dark girl, I know exactly how you feel. It does suck we still in 2018 have to go through all of this
I know, it's crazy! I wonder if it will ever really stop.
Nina Thomas I pray so!
I’m dark skin from India Hyderabad and I believe we all the same no one is better than other, we all humans
Absolutely incredible that this conversation is even necessary,Wow.
Yes, defn. something I think I want to revisit. Maybe I'll revisit the topic this month.
She's perfect!! I love this woman. Thank you!
Your skin color looks really good I’m also brown skinned and I like the skin color you are it’s like a tea brown
Great message dear Nina, appreciations! Pr.George Varghese ,Florida
Thank you!
😪😪

I so needed this video. I am a fair skin tonned , but i really needed this video.
Thank you for saying that!
You are gorgeous Nina!! Don't let the haters get to you. I rather be dark-skinned and beautiful than light-skinned and ugly.
you are made very well, remember that you have a lot of advantages being dark skin..and it's nothing like a dark skin female love it
this video just makes me so emotional to see how much of a mental control beauty standards can have over us women where it consumes us so much. I'm very light skinned however i'm extremely insecure about other things that i think about everyday that makes me feel so depressed. something like the way we were born causes us so much pain. why? i hate this.
The struggle is real and hurtful.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made!!! beautiful! ❤
It is not so much for us to accept
ourselves, it is for OTHERS to see the beauty of you and for them to come to terms with their short sightedness.
It Ain't Easy being good looking like this girl gotta a tuck and roll with the punches there's always tomorrow and when we get up we'll still be looking good
Dark skin is closer to your roots. Im dark skin and ethiopian and my mom would hate it when I played outside, and she would use to call me nasty name because of my skin tone the discrimination in my household was REAL man I didn't start loving my skin until early 20s
