With a multi-billion dollar industry in India, skin bleaching is very common among the Indian population. But how are people with fair skin treated in India? Do they get preferential treatment? We hit the streets of Mumbai to find out.
The opinions expressed in this video are those of individual interviewees alone and do not reflect the views of ASIAN BOSS or the general Indian population.
Special thanks to our Asian Boss team in Mumbai.

And whites are obsessed with getting a tan - a golden brown skin!
No problem! No one says anything against it
How about surgery to get a straighter nose, liposuction to suck the fat out, change hair color, bleach off hair off the body, surgery to get bigger breasts, a bigger behind etc?
no problem. "We here in the west approve of all this - WE make the rules and so all this is ok
WE don't approve of darker skinned people getting a lighter tone - now that is wrong!"
The sad thing is to see Indians mocking themselves - still slaves of the white man
Still putting themselves down because the white man says so
      .
Fact is that in ancient times people with a lighter skin tone meant they worked indoors, meaning they made their living by using their brains, had an education
And that is how this looking up to fairer skin tone came in
Of course that is not true today but that's the idea
We should not judge people by skin tone but nothing wrong with saying I want a lighter skin tone

How does that skin color issue relate to caste system when our great Lord Krishna and even Rama had a very darker skin tone, as it is stated. So why weren't they considered to be untouchable instead of being described as the most handsome guy (Krishna) of Mathura?
It all started when the British White people brainwashed the Indians.

I agree with the point that caste system had an effect on this but it was very less, the main reason of Indians wanting to be light skinned was because of British people. During the colonial period, the Britishers were in power and they were wealthy and powerful and they obviously hated dark skinned people. So, the thinking of Indian people changed and they started thinking that people with fair skin hold a higher position in society and he/she must belong to a good wealthy house. That is what basically started this problem of racism in India.
As someone pointed out in the comments, I would like to talk about Lord Krishna. We know that Lord Krishna was dark in colour , he was depicted as dark as a rain filled monsoon cloud and beautiful in the old scriptures and shlokas and granths. And the old Idols of Lord Krishna will also be black or Dark, but because this change in people's thinking, he was later portrayed as blue or fair skinned(very less) at some places. This is because of the effect of colonization and this shows how big is colour discrimination in our country.
And I am not saying that caste system is not a problem, it is one of the biggest problem of our society. Even I have seen my grandmother do discrimination on the basis of caste. My mom is a teacher, and in their staff they always eat lunch together and eat each other's food too, and my grandma always used to ask my mom that what is the caste of her fellow staff people, and she used to say that don't eat food with them and etc. well I am glad that my mom never listened to her XD .
She even used to ask me about caste of my friends when I was young and I always used to say that I don't know. But nowadays I always counter her on these kind of remarks. I always try and make her understand that there is nothing like untouchables. But just like most of the old people she is too stubborn to realize.

I've had more than one teacher ask me if I was sick because I was so pale. It used to make me so insecure. I would always self-tan for the majority of my teens and 20s. And it didn't always look good. Eventually I got more comfortable in my own skin and now I just ignore people when they say negative things. When I was younger, I would've traded skin colors with any of these people in a heart beat. I am still a little insecure when it comes to my legs... But everyone is beautiful. All colors.❤️

I was teased and made fun of throughout all of my childhood and on into adulthood being a "redhead". In fact, all redheads are. It's not ever anyone's favorite at all among "fair-skinned" people. Getting beat up as a little kid just for being a redhead was commonplace. And I'm sure even now in 2022. Being "Pink with Orange Hair" is something I learned "own" because you are at a very young age classified as a "Redhead", "Carrot-Top", "Ginger"....as a societally imposed badge/ label, life long label. Ask any redhead anywhere in the world, they will tell you. So there it yet another layer of the cake we call "humans". :) Love this video! Well done! Cheers!

The northern guys and girls are usually fairer and hence the perception of beauty is linked to fairness. But having stayed in Mumbai my whole life and then shifting to Hyderabad for job, I have firsthand seen the shift in the attractiveness factor. In south, I don't think much weight is given to the fairness of a person. Even though the industries say otherwise, I have seen people falling in love despite of anyone's skin color. And I guess as days goes by, I am observing the same in the northern parts too.

Yeah because north indians are naturally fairer than south so south love their dark skin and north their light skin. That's a reason a dark person can face problems in North.

lol! Keep dreaming... No matter how you look at it or whereever you look at it fair skin is the standard. In India it is and it will always be the standard or no products will sell. And they are a multi billion dollar industry. Common people will not and cannot do nothing about it.
Young parents are logical? lol, beauty products have the highest sales in this decade more than ever. And it will raise because it is the young who will always use it. Not the old!
But anyways nothing is going to change. You choose what you have to do.

@@crombajaa ok first of all your whole respond is ew. There’s nothing wrong with thinking optimistically but honestly I feel like India and other countries will be forced to think differently as media(as in worldwide too) is changing and now more available even to younger people which in turn can educate. No one is born thinking fair is better but it’s learned. There will most definitely be a change even if you not alive to see it.
Edit: an example of a change is literally fair and lovely. They changed their name to glow and lovely or something which even though isn’t much of a change, it’s still a change where people realized how wrong the name was. Remember fair and lovely is known by mostly everyone is Asia so it’s a pretty big company so for them to do that extreme like changing their whole brand name is significant. Then again, we can most definitely improve and grow.
