    How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
    How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

    That Kuhn looks like it does a really nice job. I love the quick change features on the knives, that and the side panels on the back having a place to hangout on the tongue are certainly not necessary features, but man if they don't help sell this machine I don't know what else could. Love the shots from the inside, thanks for the video! Keep up the great work!

It will be an OUTSTANDING year for the people who are able to sell hay,it is in high demand. I see as the song goes"you've lost that loving feeling" hasn't happened to you and Hannah. Joke,it is good to see you 2 together in HAPPY BLISS.

    Ryan wondering if you have watched Sonne farms channel, they are trying out a JD round baler out accumalater 2, looks like a awesome baler and you can hold the bales on the back and drop the bales where ever you want on the ends in the middle as it makes it so you don't have to go all over to pickup bales . It would be nice to see you and Travis try one out, I'm sure you would really like it since you have alot of hay ground now.
    Hope you can get by without any more nasty weather before harvest. Have a great week !

    I’d rather run our alfalfa thru two rollers instead of a conditioner. I don’t think two rollers knocks off as many leaves. Thx for the video!!

    • @lukestrawwalker
      @lukestrawwalker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean flail conditioner... rollers are a conditioner too, and yeah for pure alfalfa rollers are the right choice... for grass the flails are superior. There's a lot of discussion back and forth some folks like flails better some rollers. Unquestionably the flails are less expensive to maintain and more durable, but yeah they have their drawbacks! OL J R :)

    Hey Ryan, thanks for the upload. How long does it take you to get from the main farm to the valley?

  • @heavyhauler79
    @heavyhauler79 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Loved it when you were mowing Travis's lawn. is it better with flails or crimp rollers, when you cut hay? I was told crimp rollers were better for dry down. By the way I hope that wasn't a rock the went thru the discbine.

    • @lukestrawwalker
      @lukestrawwalker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends what you're cutting. For grass the flails are supposed to be better. Rollers are supposed to be better in legumes where the leaves can be stripped off easier by the flails. Opinions differ on which is actually better. Some guys swear by the flails even in legumes like alfalfa and some will only run a roller machine. I think a lot of it has to do with the prevailing weather conditions in an area as to which actually dries down faster, that and how an operator sets up the conditioner and runs the mower. Later! OL J R :)

    • @lukestrawwalker
      @lukestrawwalker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hay preservative, usually buffered propionic acid, to keep hay that's a little wetter than it should be when baled from heating and molding... Later! OL J R : )
