How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
You guys are going to love the cut of a hydraflex bean head, whether a draper or auger platform, will be a huge improvement over that old 216 bean head.
Bravo , Great Video , Great Machines , Great Music. Thank you Ryan.
There’s something homey and comforting when you and your brother are in a cab together during harvest, talking about how it’s going, and it’s evening or even later and you’re still working hard to get things done.
Ryan, Your audio quality and video quality is superb. Of all the farming Utubers I follow…yours is the best quality! Thanks for taking the time to do such a great job.
Nothing like the beautiful scenery of southwest WI at harvest time. Thanks for sharing another great video!!!!
Looking good Ryan, looking good!!!
I hope y’all have a great harvest and a blessed thanksgiving with all your family and friends
Great How farms Work Video, thanks for sharing
I stumbled across this video on TH-cam was very surprised to recognize the landscape as I grew up in that area good for you guys
New machine looks great congrats
It's beautiful to see a good corn crop like this. 👍
Nice to hear you again Travis. Good stuff well done Ryan
This is old fashion HFW with Travis on the commentary. Good stuff. The opening scene with the truck lugging down on a steep grade is so relatable. 😀
Love the video Ryan and travis to have good night guy's .
Getting home earlier is always a big plus.
Bigger and better equipment cost like heck but does make life better.
Great to see Travis in the video.
Take care and God Bless.
Thanks for the combine conversation. Good to see the new combine working out and that you are discovering some unforeseen helpful features. Let'r eat! Upwind --->>>>
Thanks for the great video Ryan , I really enjoy the ride alongs in Big Red . Great to hear and see comments from Travis I miss the Rest Of The Story so maybe if he doesn’t pick it up again we can occasionally hear from him on your channel. Thanks and have a great week.👍
Travis "Looking forward to harvesting beans . . ." is a new angle
Good job Ryan and Travis, great to see Ye are nearing the finish line:):)
Like that Travis is showing up on some of your videos. Miss his channel. Have a great Thanksgiving
Great to have a cameo of Travis, I miss the rest of the story, if he doesn’t do that anymore it’s great to have a lengthy cameo of him in your videos, great job.
Making videos as a farmer and having kids I imagine is difficult. I’m not sure how I’ll be able to manage it but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there
@@HowFarmsWork totally understandable.
That combine is a big help for sure👍😁
Nice video, keep up the great work👍👍
Good job and the last time I was this early Truman was president
Thanks for sharing, great to see Travis, beard is looking good. Thanks for the cow update, really miss rest of the story and the time he spent visiting with the cows. Glad Travis looks happy, if dropping rest of the story was a factor in that then it was a worthy sacrifice.
229 / acre. Sweet. Looks like a great new tool - the ability to harvest acres quickly will certainly be an advantage. And great cinematography as always - loved the shot with the sun behind the drone, as the cart came alongside to let the combine unload. Perfect lighting.
Thats a sharplooking combine
Another great video. Sounds like the change in combines, is a great help. I hope that it all works out for you and your family.
Great video love to see you guys during harvest time.
Harvesting Soybeans with an STS combine is a dream, if you can get it set right and use an air reel on the straight table you should be able to harvest at a solid 5mph and have 0 beans on the ground! That's how my neighbors set up their 9870, it is very easy to cover 160 acres or more in a good day of running. You'll be happy with the upgrade for sure!!!
maywest stalk stompers on the corn head helps flatten out the corn stalk
Glad y’all liking the combine I bet it’s better than the 9510. Keep farming
Great looking combine
Good video and well done 👍
Now that you have a bigger combine and if you get the 2nd semi. you will have to demo a bigger cart with tracks next year.
Fantastic video yet again loved the music and drone shots at the start 😃😃😃🇬🇧
Holy cow that combine really eats corn! Tell Travis I said Hi 👋🏾!
I was reading the title Ryan gets to drive the combine aaaaasnd it’s broke. Lol jkjk dam that’s a very nice combine. Now I wanna upgrade my 9600 to something like that. I hope you guys are having a good harvest. God bless y’all.
Great video Ryan
Thanks!
Yields not to bad , best of luck until the end
Good luck racing the ⛄ for harvest.
Great video as always Ryan keep up the great work
beacon on/off means 3/4 full beacon constant on means bin full basically an indicator for grain cart driver
Another trailer, or one more big grain cart. I say another trailer that can be loaded and you switch with having one tractor! Or another bin to store it then drive to the places for corn.
nice video! good to see the 4020. does it do anything else besides auger these days?
Listen to her right after she turns over and you'll hear nothing but the turbo whistle for about 6 or 7 seconds. I have a video on my channel of it from when I still had my 9670. Great machine, just to many hours on them now, most are over 2k sep hours these days.
Ryan, I remember you training Hannah to drive Big Red. Doesn’t she like to drive it hauling grain?
What air pressure on those buggy tires?
Good morning buddy #howfarmswork
Ever considered using an battery powered impact gun (or pneumatic off the truck, I suppose) to open your grain trailer's hoppers instead of the manual crank? You'd definitely need to balance one beefy enough to do the job but not too much impact on the hopper door's shafts or linkages.
Another awesome Farm video! Can I ask what software do you use to create your videos with?
Ryan, I remember y'all had some mischief around the farm the last time you had a How Farms Work event. I never heard what happened. Is there any thought on when/if you'll have another HFW?
Any news regarding another semi?
Nothing yet, but if I see a good deal on one I might jump at it
Great videos. Definitely have to get more trucks now that you have a bigger combine.
Ryan have you ever been pulled over by DOT and how did it go if you have. Did they go over everything with a fine tooth comb.
Got to be nice to have a harvest ya can enjoy for once having a combine running 12 row corn head and brent 1396 grain cart
What happened to the front right dual on the 8235r??
I was curious myself
Tire came off the rim or something like that and they decided to leave the other one on.
Maybe Ryan already covered it in another video (?) But I'd be interested to know what breed of cattle he raises and what went into that choice🤔
Black angus crosses. I raise them because when we sell feeders they’re what always sold the best
@@HowFarmsWork Thanks Ryan 👍🏻
@@HowFarmsWork left the farm 50 years ago and do I miss black Angus cross steaks ,,sad thiers no quality cuts in stores,,enjoy your beef cuts
@@jackwillie2729 Local deli for the win..(Some farms where I am will sell direct too) I've also known a group of families to go in together on a cow. Local guy raises it, they all pay a share and split the meat
I think Travis wins the harvest beard contest.
Well it is No shave November 😂🤣
So what is the purpose of the little auger that is pointing straight up on the combine?
To push the grain up to take pressure off the bubble up auger
@@HowFarmsWork thnx
Wicked 👍👍👍
Are you upgrading the Freightliner Ryan? Great video.
No plans yet, but if I see a good deal on a used semi I might jump at it
@@HowFarmsWork you could do with another trailer too, keeping up is the challenge now.
Ryan what's the update on the flatbed you purchased. Have you had any time to do any repairs on it do you can use it
What happened to the dual on the 8235
Couple of questions? One question is how you guys like the new combine? And how long does the grain cart fill up the semi?
I love it, pretty much all we’ve ever dreamed of. It fills the semi in 2 minutes running full speed
@@HowFarmsWork ok
I know when my uncle had wind damage on his farm he made sure he had his adjuster his insurance person and the agronomist in the field at the same time he said it helped him get money out of it
Why is one of the duals off
Only question is.... How do you drive straight like that?
What took so long with harvest this year? Great fall in SWWI.
It actually wrapped up a week earlier than the last several years! Rain kept us out and moisture kept us from harvesting early on
I know it’s hunting season, but why does Rocket wear the orange vest around you guys in the field?
My guess is easier for anyone in one of the machines to see him anytime him when he’s not in a machine himself if he runs off or whatever might happen
Is that new combine 2wd?
Hey Ryan!! Have you sold the 95 yet?
Not yet.
14:59 that poor dove you woke up! Is it just youtube render artifacts that is doing it, or is the corn coming out cleaner as well? It doesn't seem to be picking up as much on the foreign material as you did with the 9510. Be it cob bits or other parts. Can't wait to see how harvest goes next year running the 9770 through both beans and corn.
It does clean the grain so much better than the 9510!
👍
All equipment repairs are temporary fixes. 😵💫
Was that the actor from The Rest of the Story?
Jethro Bodine reincarnated!
Soo....those Freight Trains in Urban areas moving your corn; makes 'waiting' more tolerable!
WHO'S BEEN DRIVING THE COMBINE? I DON'T THINK IT'S BEEN HANNAH
Second
To scared to dump on the go
first
IS THAT YOUR TWIN BROTHER?
Ryan, the highly practiced improv is not working. Hirer an actor when you want to do improv.
