- We load bales with the JCB Teleskid 3TS-8T and put the KUHN Optiwrap OWR 6000 back to work to try our hand at making some real baleage! We finished wrapping around 3:30 AM and wrapped 168 bales total!

How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
I enjoy all your videos. A lot of people think all a farmer does is drive a tractor and boom, magically food appears from no where, yes I know I'm being silly, but seriously, a lot of people do not know how many hats a farmer wears every day. There is so much you all need to know, from plants, seeds, automotive, carpentry, animals, and the list goes on and on. I am very thankful for all the farmers who put food on our tables. You all are over worked and under appreciated. Thank you for all you do. God Bless.

When I was working on a farm years ago they made the wet bales, and when we fed them out in the winter months the cows would chase after the center. That was the warmest part of the bale and the best smells ever !

Ya but with all cab machines with ac. Hardly a hard job. I use to bale small squares with no cabs 16hrs a day for 3 months straight in 100 deg.
Wrapping coarse or stemmy hay is the way to go. Years ago, we ended up being a month behind because of rain every other day. By the time we got into the field, alfalfa had stems as thick as pencils and orchard grass was as tall as the rear tractor tires. Nasty, rank stuff. The haylage effect made it soft and palatable, cows went crazy over it. Just remember to make them a little smaller in diameter. 62" bales weighed around a ton! Had to back it off to 50" so we could handle them.

We love baleage. We aim to bale everything 45-65 percent moisture. 15 years doing it this way. 13-15 layers of wrap you’ll have hay keep for 2 years.
I remember our first time wet wrapping bales, I was a nervous wreck hoping there wouldn’t be issues with excess heating, Ended up turning out perfect and cows loved it. Good video!

Have never seen this type of wrapping and storage before. What a good idea ,it must cut down the amount of wrapping used and appears to be continuous action and silage wrap is not cheap !

Very interesting video never looked into wrapped hay very much always bale it dry, I have fed some wrapped bales that was almost dry hay but got rained on and then wrapped and the beefers loved it in the cold weather!

Great video. When you go to feed those bales out in the winter what works best for us is cutting the plastic before you lift the bale. Keeps everything else tight and sealed.

I'm glad you could pull it out this time. I was watching the other day as you said you were trying to not make it so dry etc. I was to comment but decided not to, I did not want you lose faith lol. The truth is that it has been very hard to make silage this year here as well (southern quebec). The timely season was too rainy to do any hay and by the time the fields were solid everything was too mature already. The guys were laying grass/hay down in the morning and had to put it in bags/silos before dusk. A few lucky ones decided to lay theirs late in after-noon and silage everything during the evening/night.
