    How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
    How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

    A thing we’ve used to help with the grass wrapping around the PTO is attaching a mud flap to the bottom of the tractor where the PTO attaches. It drags across the grass and lays it down enough to avoid coming in contact with the PTO. Hope this helps if you try it!

    Those are beautiful shots of the fields. I grew up on a NH dairy farm in the 1940's onward, and haying was hot, humid and hard work. But, being in the fields at that time of year was great. So much for bygone youth.

    TIM from Canada when you were cutting hay and you were finding that it is wrapping up on your PTO... invest in a battery powered... hedge trimmer this way it will help you out to clip out the grass from your PTO... if the hedge trimmer will cut through a tough branch it will be no problem with grass you can get this in battery powered Milwaukee Dewalt Makita pretty much anything... most people usually stick with what they have whatever batteries you were using this is the brand you use Dewalt or Milwaukee.. or whatever you can find on sale but this will help you in the long run when the grass is running around your PTO....

    Looks great. We have the impellers set about 1 inch off of the conditioning hood on our Krone and in very heavy hay get a 3 day from cut to bale and dry hay, 15% moisture or less frequently. Our hay is fescue, orchard grass and timothy. Best of luck!

    That is some beautiful hay and the mower is amazing with the capacity it can handle! We have been extremely dry in ND this year and up until yesterday I think our year total for rain was right around 1", yesterday we got an 1.23" and my grass is already starting to turn green again! We got permission this year to hay off all our CRP for the draught emergency I am sure the hay we get is going to be around half the quality as is the norm but I guess any is better than nothing!

    I’m a small timer eith 35 head of cattle here in the high mountains of West Virginia. I wouldn’t know how to act with such level ground. If I round baled on level ground, I would have to go find a hill to dump it out. It just wouldn’t feel natural. Lol I have ran a new Holland 615. 7 foot disc mower for twenty years. This year I upgraded to a 10 foot disc. I wanted a moco but couldn’t afford the extra cost since I also needed a tedder this year also. People don’t understand the hard work snd dedication it takes to make hay happen. It’s a major undertaking

We upgraded shredders this month and they sent us the wrong shaft for our main tractors we run with the shredder and had to get another one from Deere but no big deal past downtime for getting the other shaft as we caught it after it was dropped off

I am 72, & retired, but want something to do, so I won't be buying any of the big equipment, that you have, but will get some ( new to me) used equipment, to replace what I have. Thank you for the ideas.

      @lukestrawwalker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah same here, but I've "borrowed" good ideas off new equipment and engineered it into my own older machinery by modifying it similarly... Easiest one I did was installing new Kinze brush meters on my early 70's 7100 Deere planter, makes it plant as good as a brand new planter, FAR superior to the old plate bottoms it came with! OL J R :)
